Obserwujemy obecnie wzrost znaczenia przestrzeni cyfrowej – coraz więcej interakcji pomiędzy ludźmi, ich aktywności przenosi się w całości lub częściowo do tej przestrzeni. W rezultacie w nauce, w tym w geografii, pojawiły się nowe problemy oraz powstają i rozwijane są nowe sposoby badań. Uwzględniając to celem opracowania jest przybliżenie sposobów eksploracji sieci WWW w odniesieniu do wyszukiwarek internetowych. Wyszukiwarki są bowiem jednym z popularniejszych i łatwych do wykorzystani narzędzi eksploracji przestrzeni cyfrowej. Przedstawiono dwa sposoby pozyskania danych, a w konsekwencji analiz: manualne wpisywanie zapytań lub korzystanie ze skryptów oraz korzystanie ze specjalnych usług dostarczanych przez operatorów wyszukiwarki. Podjęto również rozważania dotyczące zalet i wad prezentowanego podejścia do analizy przestrzeni cyfrowej.
Today we notice the growing importance of digital space – more and more human interactions, their activity are moving, partly or entirely, to this space. As a result, new problems have occurred in science, including geography, and new ways of research are being developed. The aim of paper is to show methods of World Wide Web exploration in relation to the Internet search engines. Internet search engines are one of the most popular an easy to use tool for digital space exploration. The paper shows two methods of data acquisition and consequently analyses: manual entry of queries and use of services provided by search engine operators. We also discussed the pros and cons of the presented approach to digital space analysis.

The objective of this contribution is to provide an analysis of consonant clusters based on the assumption that phonotactic preferences are encoded in phonological features of individual segments forming a cluster. This encoding is expressed by a set of parameters established for the following features: complexity, place of articulation, manner of articulation and voicing. On the basis of empirically observed tendencies of feature distribution and co-occurrence, novel phonotactic preferences for English word-initial consonant clusters are proposed. Statistical methods allow us to weigh the preferences and determine a ranking of phonological features in cluster formation.

The aim of this article is to present the basic capabilities of the Google search engine in the process of analysing multi-word lexical combinations. Our assumption is that the Google search engine can be regarded as a kind of linguistic database ready to be used as a practical linguistic tool. The text is an overview, therefore the presented material is limited to the necessary minimum, i.e. fifty randomly-selected phraseological compounds. In the introduction, we list ( and briefly discuss ) the tools available for studying Polish-language multi-word lexical combinations. With such an outlined background, we may characterise the Google search engine as a linguistic database. Finally, in the relevant part, we present the ways of using this tool with selected examples. In the summary, we discuss the possibilities offered by the use of a constantly-updated linguistic database which the Internet search engine under review can be considered to be.

The aim of this paper is to explain the principles of operation of search and matching models and illustrate their research capabilities for the analysis of labour markets. The first part of the paper is a short historical review of the two models, and a presentation of the oldest, but also most frequently referred to in literature sequential job search model. The second part describes in detail the basic Mortensen-Pissarides (MP) model operating in a frictional environment. It begins with some theoretical assumptions, followed by a presentation of the matching technology, job creation and job destruction conditions and related to them wage determination mechanisms (Nash Bargaining Solution). Finally, a steady-state equilibrium is determined. In the third part, possible applications of the MP model to labour market analysis is presented. The main focus is put on the real business cycle (RBC) and the labour market policy (LMP). Weaknesses in performance of the MP model in those two aspects (RBS, LMP) are also discussed.
Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie zagadnień związanych z modelami poszukiwań i dopasowań oraz zobrazowanie ich potencjalnych możliwości w zakresie analizy rynków pracy. W sekcji pierwszej tekstu skrótowo przedstawiono rys historyczny wspomnianych modeli oraz dwa ich główne kierunki rozwoju. Następnie zaprezentowano jeden z najstarszych, lecz i najszerzej w literaturze omawianych modeli: model sekwencyjnego poszukiwania pracy. W drugiej sekcji tekstu szczegółowo przedstawiono podstawowy model Mortensena i Pissaridesa. Najpierw omówione są założenia teoretyczne, następnie mechanizm poszukiwań i dopasowań, warunki tworzenia i destrukcji miejsc pracy oraz powiązane z nimi ustalenie płac na rynku (Nash Bargaining Solution – NBS), co w efekcie prowadzi do ustalenia stanu stacjonarnego modelu (steady-state equilibrium). W kolejnej części tekstu, na podstawie literatury, zostaje omówione i przedstawione zastosowanie modelu w analizach rynku pracy. Autor zwraca uwagę na zagadnienia najbliższe jego zainteresowaniom badawczym – na modelowaniu cyklu gospodarczego i polityki rynku pracy. W tych dwóch aspektach omówione zostają również potencjalne problemy i krytyka, z jaką model Mortensena i Pissaridesa się spotkał.

Artykuł włącza się w dyskusję pomiędzy koncepcjami antropocenu i kapitałocenu. Rozpoczyna go rekonstrukcja zarzutów, jakie pierwszej z nich stawiają m.in. Jason W. Moore, Eileen Crist czy Donna Haraway (niewłaściwa diagnoza przyczyn kryzysu ekologiczno-klimatycznego, ignorowanie nierównej odpowiedzialności za ów kryzys, utrzymywanie antropocentrycznej wizji świata). Następnie autor przedstawia kontrargumenty zwolenników antropocenu, m.in. Iana Angusa, Clive’a Hamiltona, Dipesha Chakrabarty’ego (antropocen nie ignoruje kontekstu gospodarczo-politycznego, zwolennicy kapitałocenu dokonują nieuprawnionego przeniesienia diagnoz geologicznych na pole socjologii, narracja o kapitalizmie nie jest wystarczająco szeroką ramą badania zmian klimatu). Zakończenie artykułu stanowi próbę fuzji horyzontów obu koncepcji. Autor postrzega je jako dwie wersje hermeneutyki klimatycznej, podejmujące próbę zrozumienia, co dzieje się z naszym światem, i wypracowania odpowiedzi na ów proces.
The article joins the discussion between the Anthropocene and the Capitalocene. It begins with a reconstruction of the objections to the first one made by, among others, Jason W. Moore, Eileen Crist or Donna Haraway (incorrect diagnosis of the causes of the ecological and climate crisis, ignoring the unequal responsibility for this crisis, maintaining the anthropocentric vision of the world). Subsequently, the author presents counterarguments of the supporters of the Anthropocene, including Ian Angus, Clive Hamilton, and Dipesh Chakrabarty (the Anthropocene does not ignore the economic and political context, supporters of the Capitalocene make an unjustified transfer of geological diagnoses to the field of sociology, the narrative about capitalism is not a broad enough framework to study climate change). The end of the article attempts to fuse the horizons of both concepts. The author sees them as two versions of climate hermeneutics, attempting to understand what is happening to our world and to work out an answer to this process.

Autor przedstawia propozycje zmian w zakresie organizacji i zarządzania polskimi uczelniami akademickimi. Wnioski zawarte w artykule zostały zaczerpnięte z badań autorskich przeprowadzonych w University College London (UCL), a także z bogatej literatury przedmiotu. W pierwszej kolejności analizie poddane zostają szanse i zagrożenia związane z wprowadzeniem silnego przywództwa organizacyjnego. Autor postuluje nadanie rektorowi strategicznych kompetencji menedżerskich, odejście od demokratycznego wyboru władz akademickich i wprowadzenie - sprawdzonego na gruncie brytyjskim - kolegialnego the committe system. Ponadto w artykule rozważana jest możliwość zwiększenia władzy dziekańskiej w zakresie zarządzaniu zasobami (akademickimi), a także modernizacja relacji pracowniczych, które umożliwiłyby pełniejsze korzystanie z potencjału intelektualnego uczonych. W tym samym celu autor opowiada się za pełniejszym i systematycznym użyciem wewnętrznych procedur ewaluacyjnych, służących do stałego podnoszenia jakości funkcjonowania uczelni. W ostatniej części poruszona zostaje kwestia myślenia przedsiębiorczego w świecie akademickim, wymagającego określenia instytucjonalnej strategii oraz organizacyjnego konformizmu w realizacji wytyczonych celów na wszystkich poziomach funkcjonowania organizacji.
The author discusses suggested changes in organisation and management of Poland’s academic institutions, The conclusions are based on author’s own research conducted at University College London (UCL), and extensive literature on the subject. First, opportunities and threats arising from strong organisational leadership are analysed. The author proposes bestowing vice-chancellors with strategic managerial competencies, departure from democratic elections of university authorities and introduction of the committee system which has proven effective in the United Kingdom. Moreover, the article considers the possibility of expanding dean’s authority in the management of (academic) resources and modernising labour relations to enable fuller utilisation of researchers’ intellectual potential. To this end, internal assessment procedures could be used more comprehensively and systematically to ensure continuous performance improvements. The last section is devoted to entrepreneurial thinking in the academic world; to accommodate to such style of thinking an institutional strategy must be defined and organisational conformism must be applied at all organisational levels when pursuing targets.

Contemporary post-metaphysical culture undertook the express fi ght against absoluteness and universality by propagating and defending pluralism. It seemed that if instead of the quest for what is universal and absolute there will be almost infi nite magnitude of views, opinions, meanings etc., everybody will fi nd something for himself what will be his own meaning. The loss of the reference to what is absolute and universal led though to the loss of concrete goals, values and meanings. But we cannot “manage diversity” if we lack this reference. What is more, the world becomes closed and limited and it recedes to the static and locked-in state in which admittedly everything is in fl ux, views are being liberally changed, meanings accepted and rejected depending on the moment, but actually everything is motionless in the closed world. If we know all of this and deeply experience the crisis of the meaning of existence that stems from the rejection of metaphysics and from the surrender of culture to the most important questions and to boot fragmentation of reality becomes dangerous and destructive, then the revival of metaphysical thinking becomes the need of our world. The man itself is not enough; neither the culture that tantalises itself with selfsuffi ciency; both of them lose the meaning of their existence. Man cannot indefi nitely recede from the world. On the contrary, he has to place this world within some meaningful order. All these needs are metaphysical. The quest for the foundation of all meaning has been the essence of metaphysics for ages. That is why we experience not only longing for metaphysics but we also enter the way of the search for it. However, before the quest for metaphysics there are metaphysical quests which purpose is to recall questions and to slowly teach the man these questions anew. For we are bonded with the absolute – not necessarily with the “existence of the absolute” but inescapably with “questions about it”.

Artykuł zawiera główne tezy wystąpienia Autora na międzynarodowej konferencji University  - Enterprise Partnerships in Action , która odbyła się w Londynie 22 - 23 czerwca 1995 r. Autor opiera się na następujących podstawowych założeniach: w warunkach nagłych przeobrażeń środowiska gospodarczego i społecznego zachodzących w ostatnim dziesięcioleciu występuje poważne zapotrzebowanie na odnowę gospodarczą i społeczną -współpraca między szkolnictwem wyższym i przemysłem może być istotnym czynnikiem rozwojowym. Współczesne szkolnictwo wyższe, aby sprostać nowej roli, powinno, zdaniem Autora, uwzględniać w swych planach rozwojowych pięć omawianych w artykule, charakterystycznych dla tego szkolnictwa tendencji: zwiększanie się i szybkie różnicowanie populacji studentów; zmiany w systemie finansowania kosztów kształcenia; potrzebę rozwoju badań naukowych; wykorzystywanie nowych technologii informatycznych i łączności oraz tworzenie się nowych więzi między szkolnictwem wyższym i "światem pracy".
The article contains the main theses of the Author’s address at the international conference “University - Enterprise Partnerships in Action”, which was held in London on 22-23 June, 1995. The Author bases himself on two main assumptions, in conditions of the sudden economic and social transformations of recent decades there is an urgent need for social and economic regeneration, for co-operation between higher education and industry, which can make a significant contribution to development. In the Author’s opinion, in order to fulfil its new role, higher education in its development plans should take account of the five tendencies characteristic of contemporary higher education: the great and rapid increase and diversification of the students population, changes in the costs of funding education, the need for expanding scientific research, the use of new information and communication technologies, and the emergence of new ties between higher education and the “world of work”.

Lumen Fidei (The Light of Faith) is intended as the guiding magisterial document for the Year of Faith. Faith is the gateway to salvation. To reach eternal salvation, it is necessary: to have been baptized sacramentally; and to die sincerely professing the Catholic faith. A U.S. Jesuit priest, poet, lyricist, and essayist Leonard Edward Feeney (1897-1978) articulated and defended a strict interpretation of the Roman Catholic doctrine, extra Ecclesiam nulla salus (outside the Church there is no salvation). He took the position that baptism of blood and baptism of desire are unavailing and that therefore no non-Catholics will be saved. Fighting against what he perceived to be the liberalization of Catholic doctrine, he came under ecclesiastical censure. The Vatican’s Holy Office rejected his restrictive view by distinguishing between those who really belong to the Church (in re) and those who belong by desire (in voto). The desire would be explicit in those who were catechumens and implicit in those people of goodwill who would join the Church if they knew it to be the one true Church of Christ. St. Augustine also distinguishes between the sacrament of baptism and the turning of the heart to God. He teaches that if either of these conditions cannot be secured, the other will be sufficient. A baptized child is saved without turning its heart to God, should it die before coming to the age of reason, and a man who turns his heart to God is saved without water baptism, provided he in no way despises the sacrament. St. Thomas states, „some have received the invisible sanctification without visible sacraments, and to their profit; but though it is possible to have the visible sanctification, consisting in a visible sacrament, without the invisible sanctification, it will be to no profit”. The encyclical Lumen Fidei presents faith as a light that dispels the darkness and illuminates the way which is the human being. Respecting the religious sensibility of searchers who lack explicit faith, the letter recognizes that “Religious man strives to see signs of God, in the daily experiences of life, in the cycle of the seasons, in the fruitfulness of the earth and in the movement of the cosmos” (no. 35). It continues, “To the extent that they are sincerely open to love and set out with whatever light they can find, the popes tell us, “[searchers] are already, even without knowing it, on the path leading to faith.” The light of faith in Jesus illumines the path of seekers. Letter to the Hebrews speaks about Enoch and Abel who believed in God before Abraham. Christ is the concentration of light of God, who illumines every human experience and journey of man to God.

The activity of the Prussian administration in the period of the Kulturkampf in Wielkopolska resulted among others in deposition from office of the Poznań-Gniezno archbishop, Mieczysław Ledóchowski. The estate and archives of both dioceses were in June 1874 placed in the charge of Prussian commissioners. The records - the Poznań and Gniezno consistories included - were subjected to sequestration until 1886 (the records from Gniezno were transferred to Poznań). Access to the files was granted only to Prussian officials, among them Józef Lekszycki (1818-1899), an eminent expert on Wielkopolska municipal and land registers, and genealogy. In the years 1884-1885 he inspected the sequestered records of the Poznań consistory, and gathered the results of this work in the still surviving Repertorium ueber das Archiv des Posener Erzbischo/licher General-Consistorium. While inspecting the records, J. Lekszycki took down information (which he called documenta) on the Poznań church of St. Martin for the years 1252-1798, and compiled the excerpts in a manuscript volume that survives until today titled Documenta ad Ecclesiam parochialem S. Martini. spectantia, completed in September 1888.

Pojęcie relacji międzygatunkowych wydaje się zdroworozsądkowo zrozumiałe. Kiedy jednak przyjrzeć mu się dokładniej, okazuje się, że niesie ono wiele różnych niuansów i niejednoznaczności. W niniejszym tekście przedstawiamy rozważania na temat sensu pojęcia – tego, że odnosi się ono do różnych emocji (relacji o charakterze pozytywnym i opresyjnym), że dotyczy zróżnicowanych aktorów (ludzie, zwierzęta, rośliny i inne byty), że nie jest statyczne, ale dynamiczne. Badamy, jak – o ile w ogóle – to pojęcie mieściło się w klasycznych socjologiach: Émila Durkheima czy Herberta Spencera. Wskazujemy, że analizowanie relacji międzygatunkowych wymaga holistycznego i biocentrycznego (wręcz planetarnego) ujmowania świata, w którym uwzględnia się tak dyskurs naukowy, jak i pozanaukowy. Takie podejście pozwala na odnajdywanie pokrewieństwa (kinship) między bytami.
The concept of interspecies relations seems to be clear according to common sense knowledge. However, upon a closer look, it turns out that it carries many different nuances and ambiguities. In this article, we present reflections on the meaning of the concept – that it relates to various emotions (positive and oppressive relationships), that it concerns various actors (people, animals, plants and other beings), that it is not static, but dynamic. We indicate how – if at all – this concept fits into the classical sociologies of Émila Durkheim or Herbert Spencer. We point out that analyzing interspecies relations requires a holistic and biocentric (even planetary) approach to the world in which both scientific and non-scientific discourses are taken into account. This kind of approach allows finding kinship between beings.
