Opis:
CLIL classrooms are not typical language classrooms due to the fact that language is the medium through which content is “transported”. Non-linguistic content is used to teach a language and learners acquire new knowledge but in a foreign language. The following paper provides an outline of research on the role of a teacher in a CLIL classroom. Starting with a brief insight into the phenomenon of CLIL, and a general overview of the qualitative studies based on observations, questionnaires and interviews, the article focuses particularly on the main features of a CLIL teacher.

Zdobyte doświadczenia mogą posłużyć do modyfikowania programów studiów nauczycielskich i tworzenia modeli pracy w wielokulturowym środowisku.
The aim of the article is to show the value of work in multicultural groups to create a diverse and beneficial educational learning environment. The contemporary situation of migration is a challenge for Polish, usually monocultural schools. The most important task is now to equip teachers with the skills that will enable them to recognize and develop their own strategies towards cultural diversity and take advantage of educational and didactic work in multicultural teams. The basis for these actions may be educational practices in classes attended by Roma children. The experience gained during these practices can be used to modify university teacher training and to model work in a multicultural environment.

A teacher’s work with children of preschool and early school age focuses on achieving the teaching and educational objectives, as well as those related to childcare. The tasks include, among others, supporting pupils in shaping the image of the world, recognising different values and criteria,as well as methods of choosing them, obtaining basic social skills, and shaping moral and religious attitudes. The educator is obliged to show the children universal values and ethical principles. They also have to present role models and motivate their pupils to imitate them. All of this fosters an image of sanctity among children. When it comes to making decisions regarding the shaping of the image of sanctity among children, the teacher is restricted by educational law, especially the core curriculum of general education, as well as the school’s curriculum. This restriction applies mainly to the objectives and content of teaching and education. However, in matters of methodology, the teacher has many possibilities for creative action. They may exceed the methodologies suggested by educational law and design their own teaching innovations. With regard to shaping the image of sanctity among children, of particular note are All Saints’ Day balls, Angel Days, educational games and activities, family fairs, saints’ parades, competition and stage productions.

The article discusses ChatGPT, a project developed by OpenAI, an organization focused on the development of artificial intelligence. ChatGPT is a type of Generative Pre-trained Transformer, a model of artificial intelligence designed to generate texts, translations, natural language analysis, and other tasks related to natural language processing. The article raises the question of whether ChatGPT can replace Polish language teachers soon, to which the answer is that it cannot. While ChatGPT can be a helpful tool for teachers, it cannot replace their role in teaching students to understand and apply grammar rules, vocabulary, and language structures, as well as shaping their communicative and cultural skills. ChatGPT can generate summaries or notes based on the provided text, and its results will be more precise if the  instruction is more specific. However, the tool cannot replace the human relationship, individual approach, and motivation that teachers provide to students.

The aim of this paper is to characterize early experiences of future teachers of English in Polish and Turkish contexts; describe their emotions and attitudes as well as analyze their evaluations of the past situations. When a foreign language learner becomes a foreign language teacher…, firstly s/he has to transform from a FL student to a FL teacher, develop the ability to talk about one’s early experiences and relate them to future growth. In this sense, narrative inquiry largely helps in contextualizing and transforming one’s experience. The data collected for the study involve narratives produced by Turkish and Polish teacher trainees.

pedagogical and psychological fundamentals of educating children and teenagers
Interwar Poland
Opis:
Michał Friedländer (1894-1942/1943?), a doctor of law by education, left his profession very quickly after his studies in Vienna. At the beginning, he conducted intensive educational project in Borysław and then, having moved to Krakow, became a teacher of German and induction to philosophy in the Private Co-Educational Gymnasium of the Jewish Society of Elementary and Secondary Schools [Żydowskie Towarzystwo Szkoły Ludowej i Średniej]. At the same time, he started cooperating with Polish and Jewish pedagogical and social magazines, where he published works dedicated mainly to the didactics of teaching modern languages and the education of children and teenagers. He was also the author of separate volumes and brochures dedicated to those issues. He sometimes also wrote about co-education, reading of children and teenagers, past and modern school reformers, and schools opened abroad as a result of new tendencies in education. He published information on functioning of out-of-school education in various European countries and held radio lectures, organized by the Ministry of Education, on the main assumptions of “new pedagogy”. Although he did not create new theories, his greatest services consisted in propagating thoughts and solutions resulting from various “new education” tendencies. He was probably one of few people in those years who consistently introduced teachers and educators to foreign reformist pedagogical ideas.

Opis:
The world of social norms and values is constantly embedded in the teacher’s actions and the educational theories they recognise, in their didactic end educational successes and failures, in professional adaptation and evaluation, in didacticism and educational inspiration, and in the case of a few, in educational leadership deprived of the external and personal world. In every dimension of the teacher’s pedagogical activities there is a link between the acquired theoretical knowledge and the professional attitude. The pedagogical approximation into specific theories and pedagogical ideas is illustrated by the professional attitude of the teacher, interpersonal relations with students and the teaching staff. The knowledge of pedagogical paradigms, the realization of diverse ideas can be a factor in a teacher’s pedagogical success, as there is no single theory, explaining and suitable for a specific school community in the educational space. Contemporary pedagogical theories, like never in the past, are becoming a creator of social mentality in multicultural environments. They are becoming a “civilizational hope” for the reduction of traditional “prescriptive-distributive” thinking, as well as subject-based, directive and authoritarian education, and educational impossibilism in schools. Contemporary pedagogical controversies around the relationship of education and leadership do not have antagonistic content, elements that are pedagogically and socially opposed. They interact with each other in various and multi-level ways in the space of humanistic pedagogy and human resource management, they are a pedagogical dualism in the sphere of descriptive and relational narrative, critical thinking, without space for academic logomachia. The growing interest in the teacher’s autonomy, teacher’s independence, the dimensions of the presence in the pedagogical community, and the pursuit of individual needs are issues of external educational affiliation. What educational and cultural dimension should constitute the pedagogical habitus of a modern teacher? From the content of many pedagogical publications, a conclusion emerges that in education, it is not the teachers who become the motivators of exceeding knowledge and skills for themselves, but the students who exceed their teachers. Such a confrontation of the two worlds: teachers, representing institutionalised education and students (more precisely: learners), having one common goal – mutual understanding, which already requires a change in the generation paradigm, methods of operation, education (students and teachers), modification of the education already acquired, transformation of the model of “becoming” a teacher (usually based on authority – still traditional) more effectively appealing to students and systematic use of the new technological solutions in the education process. Increasingly, many pedagogical ideas and theories are starting to signal the need to transpose the role of the teacher in the spectrum of expert-conceptual practitioner, which is based on the methods and techniques of learning, i.e. critical thinking.

To boost the foreign language learning process, language teachers need to know how to implement a multilingual pedagogy, that is, they should be able to draw on their and their students’ knowledge of other languages during lessons. This qualitative study explored the extent to which 21 foreign language teachers in Norwegian and Russian upper-secondary schools were willing and able to implement multilingual teaching practices and the factors that they thought affected this implementation. The findings revealed three main factors, namely, their language knowledge, their positioning as language learners, and the level of support they received, which the participants reported as strongly influencing the extent to which they were able and willing to draw on their and their students’ multilingualism as a pedagogical resource. The findings also indicated that participants did not implement multilingual teaching practices differently based on the languages they taught, although there were differences between the participants from Norway and Russia concerning the teaching of English. The study has important implications for research on language teaching and learning in multilingual environments, educational institutions, and teacher development programs.

As a result of the ban imposed on the Society of Jesus, post-Jesuit schools and funds had to be submitted to control. On 14 October 1773, on the initiative of king Stanisław August Poniatowski, the Commission of National Education (KEN) was appointed during a session of the parliament confirming the First Partition of Poland. The Commission was a body supervising the entire Polish education system, as well as an education fund created from the post-Jesuit assets. The king and the members of Parliament hoped that the Commission would reform the Polish education system and subsequently Poland would become a powerful state again. The Commission was a state institution appointed by parliament and answerable only to parliament. The Commission members included well-educated individuals, prominent politicians, representatives of the social elite who added to the Commission of National Education’s prestige. The school reform was inspired by the concepts of physiocracy (adapted to Polish conditions), the achievements of the pedagogy and philosophy of the Enlightenment, coupled with the local political and educational heritage, as well as the experiences of the National Academy in educating teachers and in cooperating with secondary schools. The Commission of National Education did not have any examples to follow, be it for institutional work or the planned school reform. The Commission managed to create a new type of state institution in charge of education. University-level education was provided to teachers, while the universities themselves were upgraded in terms of academic requirements and organisation. Departments were replaced with two equal-rank colleges. A Moral College was established with social science and humanities in mind, while a Physical College was created with mathematics and natural science in mind. The universities were delegated the responsibility of academic and pedagogic supervision of secondary schools. The Commission established the modern profession of teacher, the so-called academic estate. Polish was introduced to schools as a teaching language, accompanied by an encyclopaedic curriculum. Polish school books were developed. An enlightened and responsible nobleman-cum-patriot was offered as an educational model. The Laws of the Commission of National Education for the academic estate and the schools of the Polish Republic, an academic legal code, was developed and published in 1783.  The Commission was appointed by parliament and had an educational fund at its sole disposal. It was esponsible only to parliament for its activity and financial policy. This significantly differentiated the KEN from the institutions supervising education in Russia, Germany or Austria, as well as other countries, which were financially and legally dependent on enlightened monarchs. The KEN schools educated patriots and citizens, while the schools in absolutist monarchies desired loyal and obedient subjects of the tsar or king.

Dobrá výslovnost je jedním ze základních rysů řečové kultivovanosti mluvčího. Vyučování mateřskému jazyku by mělo vést k rozvoji řečových dovedností, jejichž součástí je zvládnutí ortoepické normy. Jednou z podmínek tohoto procesu je sama učitelova znalost a praktické ovládání české ortoepie.
Pronunciation is one of the basic characteristics of one’s speech culture. L1 teaching should lead to the development of speaking skills, whose part is also mastering the orthoepic norm. One of the preconditions of that is the teachers’ subject matter knowledge, their own practically mastery of Czech orthoepy. The paper brings the results of a study conducted with a sample of 148 teachers from Czech primary and lower- and upper-secondary schools which researched the teachers’ ability to detect pronunciation errors in a segment of continuous speech. The results indicate that the awareness of the orthoepic norm among Czech language teachers is rather insufficient, and that there is quite strong correlation between the teachers’ knowledge of the orthoepic norm and the pronunciation errors their pupils make.

Studies conducted on teacher identity have mostly focused on preservice language teachers. By contrast, this study looks at the professional identity of a veteran teacher of French as a foreign language in Poland. It describes a two-stage biographic study in which the narratives obtained are subjected to semantic deconstruction with the application of Bamberg’s (2010) model of identity. To this end, the author investigates: 1) what is constant and what changes in the participant’s professional career in terms of the emotions she experiences, 2) what are the similarities and differences between the teachers she refers to and herself, 3) what is the role of agency in the participant’s professional decisions. Through the analysis, the Author seeks to find out with what content Bamberg’s identity pillars may be filled, what teacher emotions and feelings can be inferred from what is said, and what insights can be gained into the identity of a French language teacher in Poland.
