Opis:
Inclusive education is one of the available forms of education for students with disabilities in Poland. Inclusion classrooms have fewer student and an additional teacher assistant. The schools in which this type of education takes place should meet a number of requirements. They start with the infrastructure and available teaching aids, and end with the teacher training and the availability of specialists. However, these are only prerequisites. In addition to them, the attitude of teachers and their training, the atmosphere prevailing in the school and the relations between students are important. All these elements are components on which success depends. The article presents the opinions of parents whose children attend such classes. Their voice is consistent with the results obtained by other researchers and the reports of the Supreme Audit Office (NIK)- there are no teaching aids, it isnot always possible to talk to specialists (staff shortages), the individualization used in working with students is insufficient, and the relations in classes are only seemingly good.

In many contexts of contemporary special education, its main present and future challenges are the implementation of effective inclusive education, the preparation of the required conditions, space and relations of safe functioning of a child with disabilities or special education needs together with healthy, able-bodied peers. Are the long-standing dreams of parents and many special educators regarding the equal rights of all people with disabilities, and in particular the right to education closest to the child’s place of residence, genuinely achieved nowadays? The diagnosis of selected municipal schools shows the real situation of the implementation of inclusive education. Are these successes already being achieved today? Or is it still a educational reality?

Support for parents
parent-child relationship
children with disabilities
Opis:
Raising, caring and rehabilitation of children with disabilities and developmental disorders is a serious challenge for their parents, because everyday situations associated with fulfilling parental duties generate a lot of various stress factors. Hence, receiving various kinds of social support seems to be an important factor affecting the well-being of parents. Thanks to this form of aid, it is possible to deal with a difficult situation and to reduce the disorder in family life. Moreover, the received support can significantly affect the parent-child relationship. This is particularly important in the context of reducing unfavourable behaviour and to intensify constructive parenting behaviour. The main aim of the study was to recognise the type of aid provided to parents of disabled children and to determine the relationship between the support received by parents and the development of the parent-child relationship. The research group consisted of 66 parents of preschool children with disabilities and 40 parents of children without disabilities. The tools used in the research were: the Parent Behavior Inventory by M.C. Lovejoy, R. Weis, E. O’Hare & E.C. Rubin, the Parent Cognition Scale by J.D. Snarr, A.M.S. Slep & V.P. Grande and the Parents’ Questionnaire by Agnieszka Dłużniewska. The study was conducted according to the correlation model.

Opis:
A child is a member of a vulnerable group in societies. Children's rights are equal for all children and they cannot be denied, because they are a birthright. However, throughout the world, children with disabilities and their families constantly experience a barrier in regard to the enjoyment of their basic human rights and to their inclusion in society. Their abilities are overlooked, their capacities are underestimated and their needs are given low priority. The barriers they face are more frequently a result of the environment in which they live rather than a result of their impairment. The situation began to change only when requirements to include disabled children in the education system were introduced in legislation. Following the example of other countries worldwide, the Republic of North Macedonia introduced inclusion of children with disabilities in the mainstream educational process, because the right to education is a right for all children, including the ones with special educational needs. For this purpose, the Republic of North Macedonia implemented a series of changes in the educational system for successful inclusion of children with special educational needs. Hence, the main aim of our paper is to represent the actual situation in Macedonian schools regarding the problem of educational inclusion of students with disabilities in the regular school system. The research methods are based on document studies and case studies about changes in social and educational policies for students with disabilities and special educational needs who are included in primary and secondary education. At the same time we shall present some guidelines for teachers who work with these children and future directions for a proper inclusion system in the Republic of North Macedonia, because every child has a fundamental right to education and must be given the opportunity to achieve and reach an acceptable level of learning. In this frame, school societies try to support full participation of students with disabilities in areas of their lives on equal terms, conditions, social justice and basic human rights.

Opis:
Most parents of children with disabilities still do not know what support they can expect in the situation in which they have found themselves, and where and to whom they can turn for such support. Knowledge on this subject by medical, educational and local government employees is non-complex and does not create a coherent system, and therefore does not meet the expectations and needs of the parents. Assessment of the support obtained by individual groups, as well as access to suport systems and legal, financial and psychological assistance in the rehabilitation of a child in the organization of free time, is very diverse, which proves the ineffective functioning of information on such support and assistance systems. The aim of the conducted research was to what support was given to parents of children with disabilities and whether it is relevant to their needs and expectations. The research used a quantitative and qualitative strategy. The research used the method of diagnostic survey was used, in which a questionnaire and a focus group interview were conducted. The results show that according to the parents of children with disabilities still do not receive adequate support in Poland in the situation in which they have found themselves. A coherent system should be created for the management of an integrated package of services to support families raising a child (children) with disabilities. This system, based on medical, educational and territorial employees, should provide comprehensive and effective access to information about the forms of support and assistance available to such families.

Everyone has the right to participate in society, regardless of his or her current personal situation, level of psychosocial functioning or experience. No reason can justify marginalisation or exclusion of people from social life at any stage of their lives. The aim of the article is an attempt to characterise the adulthood of people with profound intellectual disabilities on the basis of subjective assessment of their mothers. The methodology applied was that of a qualitative research, where the main research technique was narrative interviews. The results of the research demonstrate that adulthood is the stage of life when people with profound intellectual disabilities and their caregivers require special support in mental, spiritual, social, societal and educational dimensions.

The project method as a teaching method, which is based on activating teaching strategies, ensures holistic development of a child. It allows to select activities for children at different stages of development, stimulates thinking, teaches to put the newly acquired knowledge into practice and enables to learn through doing, which in particular raises the level of effectiveness of teaching children with mild intellectual disabilities. The joint teamwork of the whole class on the project helped them to enter the social life of the school, becoming a good plane of inclusion. However, according to the studies, the problem is the knowledge and awareness of possibility of applying this method by primary education teachers to support the school functioning of children with special educational needs including those with mild intellectual disabilities.

This investigation examined perceptions of bullying for students with (n = 15) and without (n = 60) mild disabilities in grades 4th, 5th, and 6th in a school district in the state of California in the United States of America. Specifically, the following questions were investigated: 1) Do students with disabilities perceive a higher prevalence of being bullied than students without disabilities? 2) When different disability groups are compared, how do they rate the amount of bullying experienced? 3) How do students who have been bullied rate school enjoyment when compared to students who have not been bullied? and 4) Do significant differences emerge between students who have and have not been bullied on their ratings of the amount of friends? Notably, no significant differences emerged between the groups. These findings are striking in light of past research. The discussion will explore implications related to the study findings, including potential protective mechanisms that reduced the participants’ exposure to bullying.

Grading children is of great importance in the educational process. It allows children to learn about their abilities thus shaping their self-esteem and also to define themselves in relation to other people, points to resources and areas for work, builds motivation to undertake further activity, which is why it is particularly important for students with mild intellectual disabilities. However, the grading process is very complex and requires teachers’ knowledge and skills in this area. The aim of the research was to determine what dilemmas in grading students with mild intellectual disabilities teachers of mainstream schools have. The results obtained show that the grading this group of students gives teachers many difficulties and it is therefore necessary to make many changes in this area to make evaluation a factor supporting the effectiveness of education of children with mild intellectual disabilities, and thus a factor that optimizes their development.
