Opis:
A movement analysis of objects contained in visual scenes can be performed by means of linear multidimensional filters, which have already been analyzed in the past. While the soundness of the results was convincing, interest in those systems declined due to the limited computational power of contemporary computers. Recent advances in design and implementation of integrated circuits and hardware architectures allow realizing velocity filters if the n-D system is carefully adapted to the analyzed problem. In this paper, the fundamental principles of visual scene analysis by linear multidimensional filters are examined with respect to possible sources of degradation. The extraction of movement information and its practical use are demonstrated using a wave digital filter (WDF) implementation.

Block-based physical modeling is a methodology for modeling physical systems with different subsystems. Each subsystem may be modeled according to a different paradigm. Connecting systems of diverse nature in the discrete-time domain requires a unified interconnection strategy. Such a strategy is provided by the well-known wave digital principle, which had been introduced initially for the design of digital filters. It serves as a starting point for the more general idea of blockbased physical modeling, where arbitrary discrete-time state space representations can communicate via wave variables. An example in musical acoustics shows the application of block-based modeling to multidimensional physical systems.

A class of nonparametric smoothing kernel methods for image processing and filtering that possess edge-preserving properties is examined. The proposed approach is a nonlinearly modified version of the classical nonparametric regression estimates utilizing the concept of vertical weighting. The method unifies a number of known nonlinear image filtering and denoising algorithms such as bilateral and steering kernel filters. It is shown that vertically weighted filters can be realized by a structure of three interconnected radial basis function (RBF) networks. We also assess the performance of the algorithm by studying industrial images.

This paper deals with the problem of joint state and unknown input estimation for stochastic discrete-time linear systems subject to intermittent unknown inputs on measurements. A Kalman filter approach is proposed for state prediction and intermittent unknown input reconstruction. The filter design is based on the minimization of the trace of the state estimation error covariance matrix under the constraint that the state prediction error is decoupled from active unknown inputs corrupting measurements at the current time. When the system is not strongly detectable, a sufficient stochastic stability condition on the mathematical expectation of the random state prediction errors covariance matrix is established in the case where the arrival binary sequences of unknown inputs follow independent random Bernoulli processes. When the intermittent unknown inputs on measurements represent intermittent observations, an illustrative example shows that the proposed filter corresponds to a Kalman filter with intermittent observations having the ability to generate a minimum variance unbiased prediction of measurement losses.

This paper details a proposal for the position control system of a two-axis ship-mounted tracker. Aspects of the non-linear dynamics governing Line-Of-Sight (LOS) errors between the tracker and the target are presented. It is shown that the regulation of LOS errors can be achieved by introducing a feed-forward term based on the target’s velocity. This velocity is not measurable, and an estimator is required. Given that the tracking problem is non-linear, the classical separation principle does not hold, and cascading the estimator and regulator together may not lead to an optimal position control system. The ‘LQAdaptive’ system proposed here aims therefore to improve conformity to the separation principle. Simulation trials show that tracking is improved under the LQAdaptive system in comparison to a simple estimator-regulator structure.

This paper deals with prediction of controlled autoregressive processes with additive white Gaussian noise and random coefficients adapted to an observation process. Our aim is twofold. We begin by extending to the standard Kalman predictor a result of Chen et al. (1989) on the optimality of the standard Kalman filter when applied to linear stochastic processes with almost surely finite random coefficients. We then show on an example how some particular nonlinear autoregressive processes can be embedded in these linear processes with random coefficients. Such nonlinear processes can then benefit from this optimal prediction, which is not provided by the usual extended Kalman predictor.

Opis:
Leak detection and location play an important role in the management of a pipeline system. Some model-based methods, such as those based on the extended Kalman filter (EKF) or based on the strong tracking filter (STF), have been presented to solve this problem. But these methods need the nonlinear pipeline model to be linearized. Unfortunately, linearized transformations are only reliable if error propagation can be well approximated by a linear function, and this condition does not hold for a gas pipeline model. This will deteriorate the speed and accuracy of the detection and location. Particle filters are sequential Monte Carlo methods based on point mass (or “particle”) representations of probability densities, which can be applied to estimate states in nonlinear and non-Gaussian systems without linearization. Parameter estimation methods are widely used in fault detection and diagnosis (FDD), and have been applied to pipeline leak detection and location. However, the standard particle filter algorithm is not applicable to time-varying parameter estimation. To solve this problem, artificial noise has to be added to the parameters, but its variance is difficult to determine. In this paper, we propose an adaptive particle filter algorithm, in which the variance of the artificial noise can be adjusted adaptively. This method is applied to leak detection and location of gas pipelines. Simulation results show that fast and accurate leak detection and location can be achieved using this improved particle filter.

This work proposes a SLAM (Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) solution based on an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) in order to enable a robot to navigate along the environment using information from odometry and pre-existing lines on the floor. These lines are recognized by a Hough transform and are mapped into world measurements using a homography matrix. The prediction phase of the EKF is developed using an odometry model of the robot, and the updating makes use of the line parameters in Kalman equations without any intermediate stage for calculating the distance or the position. We show two experiments (indoor and outdoor) dealing with a real robot in order to validate the project.

Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is now a widely investigated issue that aims at allowing users of multimedia information systems to automatically retrieve images coherent with a sample image. A way to achieve this goal is the computation of image features such as the color, texture, shape, and position of objects within images, and the use of those features as query terms. We propose to use Gabor filtration properties in order to find such appropriate features. The article presents multichannel Gabor filtering and a hierarchical image representation. Then a salient (characteristic) point detection algorithm is presented so that texture parameters are computed only in a neighborhood of salient points. We use Gabor texture features as image content descriptors and efficiently emply them to retrieve images.

By analyzing the wing vibration characteristics a lot of aviation studies could be conducted, including the wing health monitoring, the fluttering phenomenon and so on. This paper presents preliminary results of the research carried out toward building a promising system designed to measure vibration parameters of aircraft wing. Comparing it with the existing analogue systems, the proposed system features the use of approaches that are traditional for solving orientation and navigation problems for vibration measurements. The paper presents the basic structure of the system, the fundamentals of its operation, the mathematical errors models of its main components, the correction algorithms using optimal Kalman filter. Finally, the initial simulation results of system operation are shown, demonstrating the expected accuracy characteristics of the system, which confirms its effectiveness and the prospects of the chosen direction of research.

State estimation of stochastic discrete-time linear systems subject to unknown inputs has been widely studied, but few works take into account disturbances switching between unknown inputs and constant biases. We show that such disturbances affect a networked control system subject to deception attacks on the control signals transmitted by the controller to the plant via unreliable networks. This paper proposes to estimate the switching disturbance from an augmented state version of the intermittent unknown input Kalman filter. The sufficient stochastic stability conditions of the obtained filter are established when the arrival binary sequence of data losses follows a Bernoulli random process.

This paper proposes a variance upper bound based interval Kalman filter that enhances the interval Kalman filter based on the same principle proposed by Tran et al. (2017) for uncertain discrete time linear models. The systems under consideration are subject to bounded parameter uncertainties not only in the state and observation matrices, but also in the covariance matrices of the Gaussian noises. By using the spectral decomposition of a symmetric matrix and by optimizing the gain matrix of the proposed filter, we lower the minimal upper bound on the state estimation error covariance for all admissible uncertainties. This paper contributes with an improved algorithm that provides a less conservative error covariance upper bound than the approach proposed by Tran et al. (2017). The state estimates are determined using interval analysis in order to enclose the set of all possible solutions of the classical Kalman filter consistent with the uncertainties.

This paper presents an adaptive Generalized Likelihood Ratio (GLR) test for multiple Faults Detection and Isolation (FDI) in stochastic linear dynamic systems. Based on the work of Willsky and Jones (1976), we propose a modified generalized likelihood ratio test, allowing detection, isolation and estimation of multiple sequential faults. Our contribution aims to maximise the good decision rate of fault detection using another updating strategy. This is based on a reference model updated on-line after each detection and isolation of one fault. To reduce the computational requirement, the passive GLR test will be derived from a state estimator designed on a fixed reference model directly sensitive to system changes. We will show that active and passive GLR tests will be mixed and give interesting results compared with the GLR of Willsky and Jones (1976), and that they can be easily integrated in a reconfigurable Fault-Tolerant Control System (FTCS) to asymptotically recover the nominal system performances of the jump-free system.

The vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) is subject to various attacks because of its dynamic nature and ephemeral character. In VANET, vehicles communicate with each other for safety awareness. The positioning of an unknown vehicle is one of the critical factors to determine the vehicle’s trustworthiness. Although some positioning techniques have achieved a high accuracy level in VANET, they suffer from dynamic noise in real-world environments. This drawback leads to inaccuracy and unreliability during vehicle positioning. In this paper, an optimal innovation based adaptive estimation Kalman filter (OIAE-KF) is proposed. This algorithm offers an alternative solution for the basic Kalman filter and the innovation based adaptive estimation Kalman filter (IAE-KF). The proposed algorithm makes use of fusion of the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and the inertial measurement unit (IMU) to improve its performance. The OIAE-KF works based on the innovation sequence and involves three steps such as establishing the innovation sequence, applying the innovation property, checking the optimality of the Kalman filter and, finally, estimating process noise (Q) and measurement noise (R). An optimal swapping method is introduced for optimality check. The efficiency of the proposed OIAE-KF method is proved by comparing the predictions of the existing methods such as the IAE-KF. The results show that the OIAE-KF performs better than the existing techniques. It improves the accuracy and consistency in VANET positioning.

The paper deals with cost effective compensator placement and sizing. It becomes one of the most important problems in contemporary electrical networks, in which voltage and current waveform distortions increase year-by-year reaching or even exceeding limit values. The suppression of distortions could be carried out by means of three types of compensators, i.e., passive filters, active power filters and hybrid filters. So far, passive filters have been more popular mainly because of economic reasons, but active and hybrid filters have some advantages which should cause their wider application in the near future. Active power filter placement and sizing could be regarded as an optimization problem. A few objective functions have been proposed for this problem. In this paper we compare solutions obtained by means of combinatorial and genetic approaches. The theoretical discussion is followed by examples of active power filter placement and sizing.
