    Emotions are an inevitable part of everyday life. They can greatly influence human experience and action. It is therefore not surprising that their strength is also used in the area of political marketing. In this study, the emotions are treated, following its position in the public-political sphere, with special emphasis on the „party-voter“ relationship. As a part of the empirical research, chosen texts will be examined with regard to the manifestations of the emotions presented there and then questions of possible effects on their reader.

    The aim of this paper is to analyse and to compare the vowel extension in the academic spoken texts in German and Italian. It contains corpus-based analysis of lectures, which were published on web page gewiss.uni-leipzig.de. In this study the function of vowel extension is established. Furthermore, the author of this article has attempted to answer the question, if vowel extensions are accompanied by focus accents.

    The aim of this study is to analyze and compare the use of nominalized verbs and adjectives in abstracts of research articles in linguistics written by German- and Polish-speaking scientists. The paper begins by describing academic texts as a subject of (comparative) linguistic investigation. The next section focuses on structure and pragmatic features of abstracts as components of research articles. Subsequently the role of nominalization as one of the strategies of syntactic compression (also called syntactic condensation) and as an element of nominal style in academic texts is discussed. The next part presents the results of qualitative analysis of the data gained from 20 German and 20 Polish abstracts of research articles in linguistics. The concluding section 6 sums up the presented study and offers some recommendations for further research.

    The Role of Concessive Connectors in the Scientific Texts Discourse The subject of the considerations of the article is the specificity of concessive relations expressed by the use of connectors in the texts of scientific discourse. The function of connectors is performed by linguistic structures, specifically by conjunctions, adverbs or particles whose aim is connecting both on the grammatical and semantic level of the text. My focus is on the semantic level whose concessive relation is not only the reflection of a specific acceptance or admission despite the existence of adversative factors. It is frequently a rhetorical device serving to express distance with which the author of the text refers to a certain stance or state of affairs.
    Den Schwerpunkt von Erörterungen dieses Beitrags bilden sprachliche Strukturen, mit denen im Bereich wissenschaftlichen Schreibens die Konzessivverhältnisse zum Ausdruck gebracht werden. In der Funktion von Konnektoren, die innerhalb geschriebener Sprache als gewisse sprachliche Schemata im Kommunikationsverfahren dienen und sowohl auf der grammatischen und semantischen Ebene den Text kohärent machen, tauchen sowohl Konjunktionen, Adverbien, als auch Partikel auf. Mein Augenmerk richtet sich besonders auf die semantische Ebene, in der diese Strukturen bei der Realisierung bestimmter Intentionen der Sprecher, z. B. zum Ausdruck von Opposition oder Argumentation dienen. Weiterhin wird das Konzessivverhältnis zwecks Organisation der sozialen Interaktion auf der Textebene genutzt, bzw. als eine Strategie der Selbstsicherung des Autors im Diskurs durch Distanzhalten zu sehen ist.

    Several Thoughts About The Current State of Translation Science This paper is devoted to the analysis and discussion of current problems concerning translation science and its disciplinary, paradigmatic, conceptual and definitory diversity. Within translation science there are several disciplines of various names which even adopt contradictory definitions of what constitutes translation, what types of translation there are, or they use the names of translation types inconsistently and therefore directly affect the development of translation teaching and its application in practice. Neophilological gravitation can still be observed and it is gradually changing into a new paradigmatic and conceptual gravitation which results in isolation of certain translation researchers and lack of acceptance and appreciation of their work by given academic circles represented by leading figures in similar fields. Consequently, the existing and significant scientific outputs of some Polish researchers in the field of translation science frequently face competition or disapproval of fellow researchers representing opposite views. Such attitudes are to be observed even within a particular neophilological institute at the same university. The paper not only presents critical remarks on the abovementioned issues but also attempts to introduce order into given terminology concerning translation science and to put its sub-disciplines in a given hierarchy. Furthermore, the paper aims at providing clear boundaries between such notions as translation (pol. translacja), translation of written texts (pol. przekład) and interpreting of spoken texts (pol. tłumaczenie). The most significant definitory criterion to be adopted is consistent conception of the process of translation in its strategic, communicative and cognitive dimension.

    The authors of this article concentrate on the use and role of fairy tales in foreign language teaching to primary school children. They discuss these notions on the basis of scholarly literature and questionnaire responses of 2nd- and 3rd-year students of pedagogy and language studies at Wielkopolska University of Social and Economic Studies in Środa Wielkopolska. Apart from pointing to the necessity of introducing fairy tales in education, particularly foreign language education, they identify and describe in their account a number of tools which can be helpful for the presentation and discussion of content from fairy tales in a foreign language class at the primary school level. They also enumerate a number of effects which children’s work with fairy tales brings and in the end they draw conclusions with regard to the subject in question.

    Multisegmentale Kurzwörter (vor allem Buchstabenkurzwörter) sind unentbehrliche Bestandteile von öffentlichen Texten. Bezeichnungen von Parteien, Organisationen, Institutionen usw. erscheinen im Allgemeinen in der Kurzform. Aber nicht immer. Wodurch wird die Wahl zwischen Kurzform und Langform in Reden an die Öffentlichkeit, in Wortmeldungen im Parlament usw. beeinflusst? Ist das nur eine Frage der praktischen Kürze? Höchstwahrscheinlich nicht. Der Kurzwortgebrauch wird durch einen Komplex von mehreren Aspekten motiviert, von denen im Beitrag nur einer, die Sympathie, die Zuneigung (wie z. B. die politische Nähe) untersucht wird. Es wird versucht, auch der Frage nachzugehen, ob die diesbezüglichen Motive der Kurzwortverwendung sprachgebunden sind.
    Multisegmental short forms (especially acronyms) are indispensable components of public texts. Terms of parties, organisations, institutions etc. generally appear in abbreviated form. But not always. How is the choice between short form and long form influenced in speeches to the public, speeches in Parliament, etc.? Is this just a question of practical brevity? Most likely not. The use of short words is motivated by a complex of aspects, only one of which will be examined in the presentation: sympathy/affection (such as political closeness).

    Machine translation systems as an aid for German language translators The aim of the article is to evaluate the usefulness of two machine translation systems, Google Translate and DeepL Translator, to German language translators. Both specialist texts and standard ones have been analysed in terms of translation errors and linguistic defects that required human intervention in the machine translations. A discussion of advantages and disadvantages of the systems has resulted in their general assessment as an aid in the translation process.
