    The article discusses the paradoxes of existence as represented in Diaries of Yevhen Malanyuk (1897–1968), one of the most influential Ukrainian poets and intellectuals of the twentieth century. Taking into account Malanyuk’s biography and poetic heritage, three types of the image of “the author” have been distinguished: the internal author (Malanyuk’s voice presented in his personal papers and writings not meant for publication), the external author (Malanyuk’s perception by his contemporaries), and the reflected author (Malanyuk’s voice revealed in his publications). Malanyuk’s Diaries present the image of the internal author, which differs from the image readers are accustomed to encounter in his published works. In Diaries paradoxes are revealed in Malanyuk’s attitude towards his contemporaries, friends, political and historical events.

    In his article, Vasyl Pakharenko explores the logic of deepening literary interpretations of Taras Shevchenko’s image in the prose of the artist and discovers the differences of this image in poetry and prose. If the lyrical hero of the poetic texts demonstrates a determined, uncompromising nationalism, then the narrator in the diary and short stories is rather a territorial patriot. And yet, he thinks of himself as located in the socio-cultural space of the Russian Empire, expresses critical views on the Koliivshchina, resorts to the Russian language, emphasises Enlightenment values, and demonstrates the masculine type of writing. All this testifies to the deviation from the romantic to the previous, classicist, tradition. That type of prose refinement is caused by the forced compromise of the artist with the empire in the conditions of brutal terror during the exile. There are several interpretations of such a position of an author in literary studies: Shevchenko’s diplomatic attempt to re-educate liberal Russian and Ukrainian intelligentsia (P. Zaitsev), psychological dualism of the “adapted” and “unadapted” personalities of the writer (G. Grabovich), distinctive forms of expression of the holistic image of the author (V. Smilyancka). Each of these positions has its own logic, but is characterised by a certain one-sidedness. The nature of Shevchenko’s compromise becomes clear if we take into account the peculiarities of carnival tactics of the spiritual survival of the artist in the conditions of the world. This is a creation of a kind of author’s mask, a game with stereotypes of the dominant culture and public consciousness.

    The article deals with the phenomenon of “quality time” in the modern mass culture at the beginning of the 21st century. One of the most notable trends is the use of interactivity in creating cinematic works and computer games. Interactive storytelling allows the spectator/player to choose options for the development of the action and thus independently build the plot of the game film. Such involvement in creating a work of mass culture is an exciting new way to occupy the recipient’s time qualitatively. The variability and artistic potential of interactive cinema are discussed based on the example of one of the most popular computer games of recent years – “Detroit: Become Human” (2018) from the French studio “Quantic Dream”.

    The article analyzes the letters by Hryhoriy Skovoroda, which are a striking example of the epistolary genre of his time. These texts show the development of Skovoroda’s philosophy in the sphere of everyday life practices. These works were the first to announce and develop the important moral and ethical categories of his science, formulating and testing the leading concepts of Skovoroda’s philosophical system. It’s possible to trace the peculiarities of Hryhoriy Skovoroda’s temperament through his epistolary. This method creates the effect of the living presence of the author, because of the researched philosopher’s letters. The analysis of his letters to friends of different stages of the philosopher’s life testifies to the openness and immutability of his existential principles. The style of Skovoroda’s epistolary has not undergone significant changes for several decades. It is marked by shining Baroque metaphors, wits and aphorisms, imaginary dialogue with the recipient and thinkers of different eras. They also have a noticeable tendency to combine philosophical content with a travesty form, sincerity and respect for the recipients.

    В огляді висвітлено теми і проблематику міжнародної наукової конференції, проведеної 6 грудня 2021 р. у онлайн-форматі між Варшавою та Львовом. Ініціаторами конференції стали дослідники іконопису та практикуючі митці, учасники багаторічних пленерів у Новиці (Польща), зацікавлені в аналітичному осмисленні шляхів розвитку сучасного релігійного мистецтва. Доповідачі зосередили свою увагу на питаннях історії та перспективах розвитку сакрального мистецтва в Україні та Польщі на сучасному етапі. Конференція продемонструвала важливість вивчення історичних витоків релігійного мистецтва та переосмислення засобів давнього сакрального мистецтва задля їх актуалізації.
    The review highlights the topics and issues of the International scientific conference held on December 6, 2021 in the online format between Warsaw and Lviv. The initiators of the conference were researchers of icon painting and practicing artists, participants of the plein airs in Nowy Sącz (Poland), interested in analytical rethinking of the modern religious art. The speakers focused on the history and prospects of the development of sacred art in Ukraine and Poland at the present stage. The conference demonstrated the importance of studying the historical sources of religious art and rethinking the mediums of ancient sacred art in order to actualize them.

    The article deals with the novel The Travel of Scientist Dr. Leonardo […] by Mike Johansen which manifests the author’s predisposition to experimental game with literary tradition and classic poetics as well as to the intellectual writing. The experiment can be observed foremost in the decentration of the novel’s structure and textual communicative strategies. The author creates “the book of Landscape” as opposed to the narrative about events and characters. He plays with the reader, emphasizing on his presence permanently and exposing artistic techniques, uses language code switching and inserted constructions, creating an eff ect of cinematography. The intellectualization of writing is proved by intertextual links (fi rst of all, parodying diff erent literary styles), presence of irony as worldview principle in the work, motivation for the reader to construct possible worlds and to oscillate at the limit of the factuality and fi ctionality as well as by refl ections devoted to the philosophy of things, landscapes, travels and laws of being.

    Każda antologia jest wyzwaniem, a oczekiwania autora i czytelnika, nie mówiąc już o specjalistach, historykach czy krytykach literatury, często okazują się trudne do pogodzenia. Zawsze jesteśmy skazani na kompromis między subiektywną wizją a obowiązującym stereotypem, który bywa identyczny z utrwalonym od dawna kanonem. Gruntowna rewizja obrazu epoki, nurtu, prądu czy tematu zwykle graniczy z pewnym ryzykiem.  Tekst Dylematy autora antologii jest pisany z perspektywy humanisty-praktyka, który ma w swoim dorobku kilka prób stworzenia literackich kolekcji, a jeszcze więcej − z rozmaitych powodów − zaplanował, ale nie doczekały się one realizacji. Niestety, wnioski są mało optymistyczne, bo jak się zdaje, w dzisiejszych czasach antologie nie należą do przedsięwzięć popularnych. Wymagają żmudnej pracy, nakładów finansowych, wreszcie odwagi ze strony edytora, który raczej nie może liczyć na szybki komercyjny sukces. Nowym antologiom nie sprzyja również dość powszechna dostępność w sieci tekstów kiedyś mało znanych, starodruków i roczników dawnych czasopism nie wyłączając. Zdaniem autora, ten informacyjny aspekt pracy antologisty schodzi być może na dalszy plan, pozostaje jednak idea antologii jako dzieła artystycznego.
    Each and every anthology is a tremendous challenge as the expectations of the author and the reader, let alone the experts, historians, or literary critics, prove to be difficult to meet. We are doomed to accept a compromise between a subjective concept and a binding stereotype which often happens to correspond closely to the long-established canon. Revisiting the epoch, movement, or a subject matter is and has always been a perilous task. The author of the article declares himself an experienced humanist who has already compiled some literary collections and arranged to compile more, but for some reason they still have not been brought into being. The situation does not appear to be optimistic as publishing anthologies is far from being a popular project to take on. Working on an anthology is tedious, financially exhausting and most of all it requires a great deal of courage on the part of an editor as they  cannot expect it to be a thriving business. What makes the situation even more upsetting, current anthology releases are threatened by a widespread Internet access, which offers a wide range of rare texts such as old prints and old year’s issues of journals available at the click of a button. However, the author points out that perhaps the informative function of an anthology may be in eclipse, but the concept of an anthology as an artistic creation remains unshattered.

    Opis:
    Contractual transfer of author’s economic rights will be effective only when the transferor was authorized to dispose of such rights. Acquiring a right from a person who is not authorized to alienate it is not known to copyright law. In this respect, the Roman principle of Nemo plus iuris in alium transferre potest quam ipse habet is fully applied, which entails a number of consequences. One of such consequences is the uncertainty as to the dispositive effect of an agreement obligating to transfer such rights, which in the era of mass trading in author’s economic rights may lead to significant distortions. Therefore, some proposals are formulated in the literature to protect good faith purchasers. For instance, it is suggested that Art. 169 of the Polish Civil Code may be applied to intangible property rights. Verifying the legitimacy of such a proposal requires the examination of legislative motives behind the solution adopted in the regulation mentioned above and the assessment of those motives from the perspective of the copyright law principles. What is of crucial importance here is to answer the question about the role of the possession of a thing for the legal substantiation of good faith acquisition from an unauthorized person. Rejection of the theory which derives the legitimacy of the person disposing of the right from the very fact of them possessing the thing in fact opens way to consider whether it is possible to adopt a similar solution in the copyright law. The author’s monopoly is completely independent from the possession of the object in which the work is possibly embodied. Therefore, is it dogmatically legitimate to apply Art. 169 of the Civil Code to a purchaser of author’s economic rights? The article attempts to answer this question.

    The paper, starting from the analysis of Northanger Abbey, suggests reflection on the attitude of Jane Austen to her predecessors, Ann Radcliffe, Fanny Burney and Maria Edgeworth etc., but also the other both fertile and popular authors of the end of 18th and the beginning of 19th century. Using the research of Dale Spender and Brian Corman, the author presents the novelist as a conscious heiress of a significant, though successfully marginalised in the Victorian period and overlooked even today, female literary tradition. Taken from Linda Hutcheon, the definition of parody allows to compare in the end Northanger Abbey to Strach w Zameczku of the first Polish novelist, who referred in a very similar way to her foreign predecessors, Anna Mostowska.
