Opis:
The quantity and quality of spring wheat grain yield is dependent on appropriate cultivation practices, including mineral fertilization. Nutrients can be applied both to soil, on seeds and on leaves. For new cultivars, determination of the optimal doses and timings of fertilization with nitrogen and other mineral elements should be considered as particularly important. A controlled field experiment with the spring wheat cultivar Katoda was carried out in 2013-2015, at the Experimental Station of the University of Rzeszow in south-eastern Poland. The first experimental factor was the fertilization system (soil, seed, foliar or combined seed x foliar system), the second factor was the dose of soil nitrogen applied (80 vs. 120 kg ha-1) and the third factor was the year of cropping (2013, 2014, 2015). The highest grain yield was obtained after the combined application of the seed fertilizer Primus B and foliar Basfoliar 36 Extra. The difference obtained in comparison with the control amounted to 0.87 t ha-1. Increasing the nitrogen dose from 80 to 120 kg ha-1 caused an increase in the SPAD (Soil Plant Analysis Development) index, the number of spikes prior to harvest, TGW (thousand grain weight) and grain yield by 0.5 t ha-1, respectively. Both the foliar fertilizer and a higher nitrogen dose effected an increase in the total protein content in the grain. The highest fibre content was obtained after the use of the seed fertilizer and in the control seeds, and the highest ash content occurred after the use of the foliar fertilizer. An increase in the content of Mg, Fe and Mn in grain was caused by foliar fertilization, while a higher K content resulted from the application of a higher nitrogen dose.

Opis:
The aim of the study has been to determine the effect of mineral fertilization and growth regulators on the content of mineral components in plants of two pea cultivars. The research was based on a two-factor pot trial. Two cultivars of pea were gown: cv. Poker (sugar pea with traditional foliage) and cv. Wenus (a general use, narrow-leaf cultivar). The effect of traditional fertilization with single NPK fertilizers was compared to that with multi-component fertilizers: Polifoska 6 and Amofoska 3 (alone or with the growth regulators: auxins IBA and NAA, triacontanol, L-tryptophan, adenine and cyokinin BA). Seeds of sugar pea cultivar Poker contained more phosphorus, potassium and calcium than those of universal cv. Wenus. Higher concentration of potassium in vegetative organs was found in cv. Wenus. Fertilization with Polifoska 6 increased the content of phosphorus in seeds and vegetative organs whereas Amofoska 3 stimulated mainly the accumulation of potassium. The growth stimulators tended to depress the content of phosphorus, potassium and magnesium in seeds but raised their levels in vegetative organs. Cultivar Poker, a traditional pea variety, was characterised by a more desirable distribution of phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium than narrow-leaf cv. Wenus. Mineral fertilization, compared to the control, stimulated more strongly the uptake of phosphorus than that of calcium and consequently lead to the narrowing of the mol calcium to phosphorus ratio. In contrast, the growth regulators improved that ratio owing to the increased transfer of calcium to seeds. Cv. Wenus was characterised by a broader K : (Ca + Mg) ratio in all examined aerial organs than cv. Poker. Mineral fertilization considerably increased these values.

Opis:
Increased fertilization doses stimulate biomass production and raise plants’ demand for nutrients. Biostimulants may improve absorption of nutrients by plants and prevent nutrient deficiency resulting from their lower concentrations in biomass. The aim of this study was to evaluate Mg accumulation in winter oilseed rape at flowering, fruit development and ripening as affected by the application of a seaweed biostimulant, at different doses of NPK tested in two field experiments, with and without S fertilization. The field experiments were set up in Alfisol, on adjacent plots, in Poland (53°13′N. 17°51′E). In the first experiment, S was used in a dose of 36 kg ha-1; in the second experiment there was no S application. In both experiments, different NPK doses were used: high 180 N, 70 P, 132 K (kg ha-1) or low 144 N, 35 P, 66 K (kg ha-1). In addition, the biostimulant Kelpak SL was applied (in doses 2 dm3 ha-1 in autumn + 2 dm3 ha-1 in spring) or there was no biostimulant application. It was found that the response of oilseed rape to the biostimulant and NPK fertilization level, expressed by the amount of dry matter production and Mg accumulation in whole plants, was more favourable in the experiment with the S application prior to sowing the crop. The biostimulant increased the dry matter production while maintaining a similar Mg concentration in plants as compared with the control. Moreover, in S-fertilized oilseed rape, an increase in the Mg accumulation in response to the biostimulant was the highest (22%) at the ripening stage, whereas in the plants not fertilized with sulphur (the second experiment), this increase was significant only at fruit development. In oilseed rape fertilized with S, higher NPK doses caused an increase in the dry matter production and a decrease in the Mg concentration in the aerial parts at the flowering and fruit development stages. At the ripening stage, with a similar response of dry matter, the Mg concentration in plant remained unchanged, hence the Mg accumulation in biomass was by as much as 26% higher than after the application of lower NPK doses.

This paper presents the changes in the magnesium content in soil and plants and in the uptake of this element in yield under the influence of NPKCa fertilization. Eastern galega (Galega orientalis Lam.) was cultivated in 2005-2009. A field experiment was conducted on the experimental plots of the Siedlce University of Natural Sciences and Humanities. Thirteen levels of fertilization were included in the study: without fertilization, N20, P50, K150, N20P50K150, N20P50, N20K150, P50K150, N20P50K150Ca150, P50K150Ca150, Ca150, N20K150Ca150, N20P50Ca150. Three swaths of the test plants were harvested at budding in each year of the study. The total content of magnesium in soil and in plants was determined with the ICP-AES method on an emission spectrophotometer with inductively-coupled plasma. The applied mineral fertilization with NPKCa did not have any significant impact on the average magnesium content in soil. The highest (significantly) content of magnesium was determined in eastern galega biomass harvested from the plots fertilized with Ca150 as dolomite calcium in all years of the experiment (the mean for the years: 2.91 g kg-1 d.m.). The average content of Mg in the subsequent swaths was as follows (in g kg-1 d.m.): swath I (2.04) < swath II (3.23) > swath III (2.39). The determined content of magnesium in eastern galega in the subsequent years of the experiment ranged between 2.22 g kg-1 d.m. in 2006 and 2.83 g kg-1 d.m. in 2008. The highest uptake of magnesium in eastern galega yield (73.78 kg Mg ha-1) was recorded on a plot fertilized with N20P50Ca150 in 2008.

Opis:
This paper presents results of a study on the molybdenum content in grain of winter wheat and spring barley grown on a permanently fertilized field on loessial soil in the Rzeszow Foothills (Podgórze Rzeszowskie), in Poland. The experiment was set up in randomized sub-blocks, with potato, spring barley, fodder sunflower, and winter wheat plants grown in 4 four-year rotation cycles. Fodder cabbage was grown instead of sunflower in the second crop rotation. The first variable factor was liming (A2) or its lack (A1), while the second one consisted of different doses of mineral fertilization. Mineral NPK nutrition was applied together with constant Mg as well as Mg and Ca fertilization (liming). The general fertilization level (N1 P1 K1) for spring barley was 80 kg N ha-1, 43.6 kg P ha-1 and 99.6 kg K ha-1, while for winter wheat it was 90 kg N ha-1, 34.9 kg P ha-1 and 83 kg K ha-1. Constant magnesium fertilization was applied at a 24.1 kg Mg ha-1 dose. Liming at a dose of 4 t CaO ha-1 was applied before starting the experiment and in each year that completed a subsequent crop rotation cycle. There was a significant increase in the molybdenum concentration in grain of winter wheat and spring barley due to the liming applied. A moderate molybdenum content was found in winter wheat grain on non-limed soil 0.278 mg kg-1 DM and on limed soil 0.320 mg kg-1 DM; while in spring barley grain on non-limed soil, it equalled 0.291 mg kg-1 DM and on limed soil 0.455 mg kg-1 DM. Mineral fertilization increased the content of this component in wheat grain and usually or most often reduced its amount in barley grain. The interaction of liming with mineral fertilization did not have any significant effect on the molybdenum content of winter wheat grain and resulted in an increase in the molybdenum content in spring barley grain.

Opis:
Plant demand for molybdenum is small, but it is a micronutrient of great significance for the proper development and functioning of organisms. Its deficiencies may disturb the absorption and influence of other elements on living organisms. The availability of molybdenum for plants depends on many factors, including the fertilization used. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of liming and differentiated NPK mineral fertilization against the background of a constant level of Mg fertilization on the molybdenum content in potato tubers and in the green mass of fodder sunflower grown on loess soil in four and three rotations, respectively. The research was carried out as a long-term experiment on a field owned by the University of Rzeszow in Krasne near Rzeszow (Rzeszow Foothills). The soil on which the research was carried out was a Haplic Luvisols formed from loess. The experiment was set up in a random sub-block design with four replicates. The first variable factor was liming (A2) or its lack (A1), while the second one consisted of different doses of mineral fertilization (14 fertilizer objects) with constant magnesium nutrition. Triple superphosphate contained significant amounts of molybdenum: from traces to 18 mg Mo kg-1. Plant samples were collected after potato and sunflower harvest from four rotations. Molybdenum in dry plant material was determined colorimetrically with the thiocyanate method. The molybdenum content in potato tubers ranged from 0.147 to 0.573 mg kg-1, being much higher in the green mass of fodder sunflower, where it ranged from 0.467 to 2.280 mg kg-1. Liming increased the molybdenum content in the green mass of fodder sunflower. This treatment caused significant changes in the content of this lement in potato tubers. The mineral fertilization of NPK (regardless of liming) increased the molybdenum content in the green mass of fodder sunflower and in potato tubers compared to the object without mineral fertilization.

Oceniane odmiany truskawki gromadziły w owocach podobne ilości azotu, potasu i witaminy C. W owocach odmiany Elsanty więcej było azotanów i fosforu, a u odmiany Senga Sengana - wapnia, magnezu, żelaza i cukrów. Nawadnianie zwiększyło w owocach zawartość fosforu, potasu i witaminy C, natomiast zubożało owoce w azot, azotany, magnez oraz cukry. Zwiększone nawożenie NPK zmniejszyło w owocach truskawki ilość witaminy C i cukrów, ale wydatnie zwiększyło ilość azotu, azotanów, fosforu, potasu, wapnia i żelaza.
Strawberries of cv Elsanta, Elkat and Senga Sengana were grown on sandy soil, under various water and fertilizer regimes. The fruit of the three cultivars contained similar amounts of nitrogen, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and sugar. Cultivar Elsanta accumulated more nitrates and phosphorus, whereas Senga Sengana fruit contained more calcium, magnesium, iron and sugar. Irrigation treatments increased the content of phosphorus, potassium and vitamin C, but decreased that of nitrogen, nitrates, magnesium and sugar. A high level of mineral fertilizer caused a decrease in vitamin C and sugar in the fruit, but the content of nitrogen, nitrates, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and iron increased.

The study was carried out to asses the influence of soil mineral fertilization, manure application and soil liming on changes in the concentration of microelements (B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn) in soil solution. The tests were performed on samples of sandy soil collected from long-term fertilization experiments being conducted on lessive soil of the granulometric structure of clayish sand. Soil solution was prepared with the suction method. The concentration of microelements in soil solution was determined by means of the ICP method. The results showed an increase in Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu and a decrease in B and Mo in soil solution when soil was fertilized with nitrogen. The concentration of microelements in soil solution was not significantly influenced when soil was fertilized with phosphorous and potassium. Liming had a significant effect on a decrease in the concentration of Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu and an increase in B and Mo in soil solution. Soil application of manure significantly increased the concentration of microelements in soil solution.

The paper presents results of studies on the influence of liming and mineral fertilization on the yields and boron content of potato tubers and green matter of fodder sunflower grown in four and three rotations, respectively, on soil developed from loess. The experiment was set up on a field submitted to long-term fertilization and located in the village Krasne near Rzeszow, lying in the Rzeszów Foothills (Poland). Boron was determined colorimetrically with diantrimide after digestion of dried plant material at 550°C and dissolution of the residue in hydrochloric acid solution. Average yields of potato tubers and green matter of fodder sunflower were higher after liming, but statistical significance was confirmed only for fodder sunflower. Mineral NPK fertilization, regardless of liming, significantly enhanced the yield of green matter of fodder sunflower and, in most fertilization treatments, raised potato tuber yields. Potato tubers accumulated much smaller amounts of boron (2.2-7.5 mg kg-1 DM) than aerial parts of fodder sunflower (20- 60 mg kg-1 DM). The boron content was significantly lower in potato tubers from the limed variant than in plants from the non-limed field. The response of sunflower to soil liming was opposite. The mineral fertilization applied, regardless of liming, had no significant effect on the boron content of potato tubers. Mineral nutrition reduced the boron content in the sunflower biomass under the influence of increasing doses of nitrogen and against the background of constant phosphorus-potassium fertilization.

Opis:
Nitrogen is a key factor which shapes the fertility and fecundity of soils. Liming and mineral fertilization significantly modify transformations of nitrogen compounds in soil. The aim of our experiment was to evaluate the influence of liming and ammonium sulphate or calcium nitrate fertilization on the content of total nitrogen and its mineral forms in soil. The study was based on chemical analysis of the soil material obtained from a twoyear pot experiment. The design of the experiment comprised 9 treatments in 4 replications on acidic soil and an analogous number of trials on limed soil. The experimental factors were: liming (acidic soil, limed soil), fertilization with ammonium or nitrate nitrogen at two levels (N1, N2) as well as fertilization with phosphorus at two levels (P1, P2). Liming was applied only once, before setting the experiment. The mineral fertilizers were applied every year before plant sowing in the form of fertilizers: ammonium sulphate, calcium nitrate and triple granulated superphosphate. The test plant was spring barley, which was harvested at its full ripeness. The results indicated that the biggest influence on the N-NH4 content was produced by liming and fertilization with nitrogen. The application of calcium carbonate as well as calcium nitrate led to a decrease in the ammonium nitrogen content in soil. The content of nitrate nitrogen was higher in objects fertilized with calcium nitrate than in those fertilized with ammonium sulphate. Liming and nitrogen fertilization had the largest effect on the formation of mineral nitrogen content in soil. Liming contributed to decreased mineral nitrogen amounts in soil. A reverse situation was observed after increasing the rates of fertilization. The application of calcium carbonate and nitrate form of nitrogen contributed to a decrease in the total nitrogen content in soil. This fact can be explained by increased yield of spring barley in the objects limed and fertilized with calcium nitrate compared with the barley yield in the non-limed and ammonium sulphate fertilized trials.
