Opis:
Sports Medicine (SM) is a new specialty in India which has been often projected, dealing only with treating musculoskeletal (MSK) sports injuries. With adequate training in medical and clinical physiology, SM physicians have an important role to play as an essential part of the multidisciplinary and multispecialty team in the fight against the rise of physical inactivity, sedentary lifestyle and non-communicable diseases. Dope-free sports performance enhancement is another important aspect, which needs beyond the MSK centric approach of sports medicine. There is need for awareness and overall development of this unique specialty, with contribution from government side and non-government organizations.

Opis:
The aim of this paper was presentation of sports in schools in the province of Volhynia in the years 1929−1939. Schools in Volhynia were diversified in terms of nationality. Apart from Polish schools, with Polish as a language of instruction and a subject, there were Polish schools with languages of national minorities inhabiting the Volhynia province, as well as Ukrainian, Czech, German, Russian, Yiddish, Hebrew, Yiddish-Hebrew and Utraquist schools. In the years 1929−1939, there was rapid development of sports in schools in the province of Volhynia. This process was particularly visible in the second half of the 1920s and in the 1930s. School sport was particularly popular in secondary schools. Among sports, school children and adolescents practiced mainly athletics, sport games, shooting, water sports and winter sports. School Sports Circles and Clubs were organised. Sport competition was developed mainly at the local, district and provincial levels. In the 1930s, the representation of Volhynian (Lutsk) school district participated in national sports competitions. School sports contests between Kremenets Lyceum and “The Sułkowskis” Junior High School in Rydzyn, taking place in the years 1933−1938, were regarded as blue-ribbon school contests. Apart from Kremenets, Dubno, Kovel, Luck and Równe were also regarded to be strong school sports centres in Volhynia.

Climbing is becoming more and more popular. During 2020 Olympic Games this discipline will be competed for the first time. Individualized diet plays a significant role among representatives of all sport disciplines. The aim of this research was to evaluate the correlation between the level of advancement of sport climbers, selected anthropometric indicators and diet composition. The study involved 36 women and 65 men practicing sport climbing who completed the food record and the survey on the most difficult climbing routes completed. Anthropometric measurements were collected. In the group of men statistically significant, positive correlation between the climbing level and the diet content of fiber, vitamin E, potassium, iron, zinc, and copper, was observed. In the group of women, a statistically significant positive correlation between the climbing level and the participation of vitamin C, potassium, magnesium and copper in the diet was observed. There was a positive correlation of protein, vitamin B2, B6, B12, D, phosphorus, magnesium, iron and copper content, and negative correlation between SFA content per 1,000 kcal of the diet and the climbing level of study participants. No statistical correlation was found between anthropometric parameters and advancement level.

Adolescence is a period between age 10 and 19. Intensive changes associated with the development of the organism influence the nutritional needs during this period. Young swimmers’ training is characterized by large volume, so their diet can play an important role in their results and future career. The energy intake of a developing athlete should be determined individually based on gender, anthropometric measurement, character, and number of workouts per day. The frequent presence of drowsiness and fatigue during training may indicate insufficient dietary energy supply. Dehydration exceeding 2% of body weight should be prevented. Isotonic drinks should only be consumed during training longer than 75 minutes. Young swimmers should consume adequate amounts of carbohydrates to restore glycogen reserves before another training unit. Carbohydrates with a high glycemic index of 1-1.2 g/kg b.w./h should be delivered during the post-training period. Immediately following training, a meal containing a complete protein should be consumed to accelerate post-exercise recovery. The total protein supply should be at least 1.2 g/kg b.w./h. The minimum intake of fat in the diet of a young swimmer should be 2 g/kg lean b.w. It is recommended to limit products containing large amounts of saturated fatty acids.

Opis:
Contemporary sport is becoming more and more commercialized, hence the players strive to win at all costs, and to achieve this goal, they consider all means to be allowed. In order to be constantly on top, competitors change their training methods, use various aids, and finally direct their interests towards doping. Doping is considered to be the use of substances and all means intended to artificially increase physical fitness during sports competitions, which may be harmful to the ethics of sport or cause mental and physical harm to athletes. The aim of the research is to assess the knowledge of the problem and attitudes of young people practicing sports games towards the dangers of doping. Assessment of knowledge on the effects of the use of illicit means, and analysis of opinion on the use of doping and strengthening mechanisms for the adoption of pharmacological agents. Research on the knowledge about the use of support measures and doping in sport was carried out among talented youth practicing team sports games in randomly selected clubs of Małopolska, Silesia, Podkarpacie and Opole. Continuation studies were conducted in 2018-2020, they covered 60 girls and 60 boys, aged 16 years. The research was carried out using a questionnaire, the questions of which concerned the following problems: knowledge of the essence of sports doping, the relationship between doping and the principle of fair play in sport, support used in physical recreation, reasons for the use of doping, moral and criminal liability in the use of doping. When analyzing the results of the research, it should be noted that the use of doping in sport is negatively perceived by the examined youth. However, it can be assumed that the knowledge about the support and the problem of doping in sport is insufficient. Setting the main goal - sports success and the related financial rewards, as well as the willingness to be the best in the opinion of the respondents may narrow the boundaries, which may facilitate the decision to use support and doping. These observations seem to be very disturbing, as the analysis of research data concerns young people practicing sports at the stage of education and the utilitarian nature of physical activity.

In modern sports, arbitration has become more and more widespread, almost replacing the common judiciary in some areas. The dispute resolution system in sports is largely based on the use of amicable and alternative forms, such as: mediation, arbitration, negotiation, hybrid ADR or the conciliation process. The aim of this article is to present, on the one hand, the principles and legal basis of the functioning of arbitration in sports, and, on the other, the possibility of an athlete pursuing their rights in such proceedings, with particular emphasis on the issue of the athlete’s employment. The main conclusion from the research is that the modern shape of arbitration in sports ensures respect for the basic rights of the athlete. However, some changes are proposed in this respect.

The aim of this study was to compare the player positions, situations, techniques, and efficacy in defence between practice and competition for a women’s professional volleyball team. The sample was a Spanish professional women’s volleyball team. The defence actions carried out in three sessions of the competitive season and two in-season matches were studied (794 rallies in practice and 166 rallies in competition). The variables studied were: actions done, defence zone, player role, type of attack, court defence technique, game phase, situations, level of execution of the defence team system, block efficacy, defence efficacy, and result of the rally for the analysed team. Descriptive and inferential analyses of the data were done (Mann-Whitney U, and Chi-Square Test and likelihood ratio). Differences in defence systems and efficacies were found between practice and competition. A higher collective efficacy was found in competition, and higher levels of individual block and defence efficacies were found in practice. The results show the need to reconsider the way match analysis is done. Consideration should not only be given to the actions done with the ball when analysing players’ performance.

Opis:
This article highlights selected characteristics of Swiss international arbitration law focussing on interim measures in sports-related disputes. The key academic concern of the article is to indentify whether under Swiss law the parties may waive the state courts’ jurisdiction to grant interim relief in international arbitral proceedings and declare the arbitral tribunal as exclusively competent. The view held in this article favours the admissibility of the waiver based on mainly two arguments: the parties’ autonomy and the lack of statutory limitations to the waiver. Further, this article deems that in ad hoc arbitral proceedings the waiver is not enforceable (but not null and void) as long as the tribunal has not been yet established. In such a case, the parties may exceptionally request interim relief with state courts. Seeking for a arbitral alternative to the said solution the article scrutinises whether in sports-related disputes the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne could be competent until the constitution of the ad hoc tribunal. Finally, the article examines the formal requirements for the waiver.

Abstract The available literature analysed the recommendations and optimal conditions for conducting aqua fitness classes. It was decided to check whether these guidelines are related to the practical use of facilities for conducting this type of recreational activities. The research problem was undertaken to assess the use of local swimming pools for recreational aqua fitness classes and changes in their use in 2012 and 2019. Methods: The study covered all functioning swimming pools within the city of Szczecin, in 2012 (n = 17) and 2019 (n = 16). In order to collect the necessary data, the document analysis technique (load lists of individual facilities and lists of places where aqua fitness classes were conducted by individual entities) and the interview technique (with persons working in the aforementioned facilities, possessing the necessary information, and with the managers of individual businesses that offered aqua fitness classes in Szczecin's swimming pools) were used. Results: Both in 2012 and 2019, the use of Szczecin's swimming pools for recreational aqua fitness was considered satisfactory. Changes in the use of Szczecin's swimming pools for the purposes of recreational aqua fitness took place over the course of several years with two swimming pools being discontinued (due to facility characteristics and conditions - temperature and water depth) and one new, private facility being opened. The number of businesses offering recreational aqua fitness services has not changed. Recreational aqua fitness classes were conducted both at typically recreational, intimate facilities located at hotels, as well as at medium and large facilities, typically sports ones. Conclusions: The conditions, modernity of the facility and location were conducive to increased participation and utilisation of the Szczecin swimming pool base for the purposes of aqua fitness classes.

Sprint time scores were analyzed for each test. To determine the reliability Paired Sample T-test and Pearson Correlation Statistics were computed. Scores of teams were compared with ANOVA statistics to determine the difference. Test results showed that there was no significant difference between the two occasions for all agility test on subjects and teams (p > 0.01). There was higher correlation between test-retest values of subjects (r = 0.90–0.97). Three different agility tests were found valid in determining agility with significant moderate level correlation. (r = 0.36–0.44; p < 0.01). Differences among sport branches were found significant for agility scores (p < 0.05). All three agility tests are reliable and valid for team sport athletes. Soccer players had better scores than other branches in soccer specific test (AS). This study showed that sport specific agility tests are more useful than general agility tests.

Nowadays, recreational activity is not only the general tendency to improve physical function, but is also associated with increased physical effort and risk. For example, there has been the development of more sophisticated and dangerous forms of skiing. Today, skiing can be divided into downhill skiing, practiced in ski resorts, and freeskiing. The freeskiing forms include ski-touring and freeride, considered as extreme. The extreme forms are characterized by high risk as the main motive for their practice. The most important predisposition to engage in those activities is the courage expressed in risk taking propensity. Risk taking propensity is a personality trait that affects human decisions in risky situations. Depending on its severity, more or less risky behavior can be observed. The aim of the study was to determine the level of propensity to risk behaviors of people involved in forms of activity associated with a higher risk in comparison with other participants, on the example of recreational skiing. The questionnaire constructed by Ryszard Studenski was used to measure the risk taking propensity and frequency of risky behavior. The research was carried out on 40 persons classified on the basis of the declaration of preferred form of skiing. People practicing extreme forms of winter activity (skitouring, ski-mountaineering) showed lower level of risk taking propensity than a group of downhill skiers. It was found that the preference of risky sports is not definitely related to the higher propensity to risk-taking behavior.

Opis:
Nitric oxide (NO) is a physiologically important signaling molecule that promotes the expansion of blood vessels and thus facilitates the transport of oxygen (O2) and energy substrates to the muscles. Research shows that nitric oxide (NO) also improves the effectiveness of mitochondrial respiration, which is manifested by reduced oxygen consumption during exercise. Until recently, it was thought that nitric oxide (NO) could only be formed as a result of the endogenous pathway of oxidative transformations L-arginine. Recent research results indicate, however, that an alternative to the endogenous pathway of nitric oxide (NO) formation may be the exogenous supply of inorganic nitrates (NO3-) with food. The aim of the study was to review the current literature on the properties of beetroot juice as an important source of nitrates (NO3-) and its effectiveness in improving the exercise capacity of physically active people. A systematic review of the research, published from 2005 to January 31, 2021, was made on the basis of searching bibliographic databases such as: PubMed, Elsevier and Web of Science. The following keywords were used: “beetroot”, “beetroot juice”, “nitrates”, “nitrites”, “nitric oxide”, “supplementation”, “ergogenic substances”, “sports nutrition”. Although there are conflicting data, it appears that beetroot juice supply may be a cheap, natural, and promising nutritional strategy for improving sports performance in both endurance and intermittent high intensity (start-stop) exercise. More detailed studies are analyzing the effect of dietary nitrate (NO3-) supply in anaerobic exercise - especially in high-volume resistance training - are needed. It is also emphasized that further research is needed to elucidate the effects of specific factors on the variability of ergogenic effects after beetroot juice consumption, which may be of the greatest importance in terms of the effectiveness of this nutritional intervention.

Percentage of young sportspeople adjusting diet to training seems to be low, taking into account both established importance of such proceedings and awareness of sport nutrition strategies in this group. interestingly, more men than women do so. Group of respondents following well-documented iSSN recommendations is comparably modest. Perhaps the topic of nutrition strategies should be given more emphasis in schools and sport associations.

Opis:
The regaining by the Polish People’s Republic of territories that prior to the outbreak of World War 2 had remained under the rule of East Prussia set the stage for re-development of equestrianism in and reintroduction of horse breeding to a region that was now Polish Varmia and Masuria. This was a two-stage process whose success depended largely on the perseverance and commitment of one man, Mr. Adam Sosnowski, administrator at the State Horse Breeding Farms. The process was initiated in 1947 when a state stallion station in Ketrzyn and three studs named Garbno, Liski, and Rzeczna were started. Another eight were soon set up through the joint effort and collaboration of managements of local state farming cooperatives, or PGRs, mostly on the grounds of former Prussian horse breeding sites with appropriate technical infrastructure and solidly established stock breeding traditions. Over the years to come, equine breeding farms in Varmia and Masuria underwent numerous reforms and organizational changes, structurally always remaining part of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture. They provided a good foundation for propagating recreational horse riding among members of the general public and, most importantly, helped equestrian sports to return to and develop in the area.

The purpose of this paper is to present sports in the province of Volhynia as presented in the “Ziemia Wołyńska” [The Land of Volhynia] magazine. The magazine, published in the years 1928-1932 dealt with the economic, social, cultural and educational issues of the province of Volhynia. The magazine also published articles, materials and reports on sports in Volhynia. The published articles dealt with conditions of sports activities. In this regard, the training of sports instructors was organized, as well as the condition of the sports infrastructure was improved. An important factor in the development of sports was the establishment of regional sports associations at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s. There were the following sports disciplines practised in sports societies and clubs: motorsports, boxing, horse riding, cycling, athletics, motorcycling, football, shooting, water sports, winter sports. The Volhynian sportsmen did not achieve any spectacular sports successes in the national arena in the discussed period.
