Opis:: The paper presents an approach to modelling and simulation of web systems. The systems are being modelled from the point of view of services realized by them. The formal model of a system, accompanied with a model of a request realization is presented. The main aspect of the paper is a simulation model of client-server interactions that adequately describes the relationship between the server response time, its availability and resource utilization. The model was constructed based on the the results of multiple experiments presented in a paper. Moreover, it was implemented in the simulation tool and its accuracy verified against testbed web servers. Apache and IIS servers were analysed.

Opis:: Integrated general models of approximate approaches of complex multi-state series and parallel systems, linking their reliability and availability improvement models and their operation processes models caused changing reliability and safety structures and components reliability characteristics in different operations states, are constructed. These joint models are applied to determining improved reliability and availability characteristics of the considered multi-state series and parallel systems related to their varying in time operation processes. The conditional reliability characteristics of the multi-state systems with hot, cold single reservation of component and the conditional reliability characteristics of the multi-state systems with reduced rate of departure by a factor of system components are defined.

Opis:: In the paper the environment and infrastructure influence of the ground ship-rope transporter operating in Naval Shipyard in Gdynia on its operation processes is considered. The results are presented on the basis of a general model of technical systems operation processes related to their environment and infrastructure. The transporter operation process is described and its statistical identification is given. Next, the reliability, risk and availability evaluation of the transporter in variable operation conditions is presented. In addition, the reliability and availability basic characteristics of the system assuming its components’ failure dependence are determined. Finally, the obtained results for the ground ship-rope transporter under the assumption that its components are dependent and independent are compared.

Opis:: A convenient new tool for solving the problem of reliability and availability evaluation and optimization of complex technical systems is presented. Linking a semi-markov modeling of the system operation processes with a multi-state approach to system reliability and availability analysis is proposed to construct the joint general model of reliability and availability of complex technical systems in variable operation conditions. This joint model and a linear programming is proposed to complex technical systems reliability and availability evaluation and optimization respectively.

Opis:: In the paper, definitions and theoretical results on system operations process, multi-state system reliability, risk and availability modelling are illustrated by the example of their application to a bulk cargo transportation system operating in Gdynia Port Bulk Cargo Terminal. The bulk cargo transportation system is considered in varying in time operation conditions. The system reliability structure and its components reliability functions are changing in variable operation conditions. The system reliability structures are fixed with a high accuracy. Whereas, the input reliability characteristics of the bulk cargo transportation system components and the system operation process characteristics are not sufficiently exact because of the lack of statistical data. Anyway, the obtained evaluation may be a very useful example in simple and quick systems reliability characteristics evaluation, especially during the design and improving the transportation systems operating in ports.

Opis:: The paper is concerned with the analysis of under-keel clearance of ships based on real data from Szczecin Maritime Office. Using probabilistic method for UKC assessment give it possibility to create the distribution of under-keel clearance in several ship’s passages and in further step to determine the probability of ship’s grounding accident during the port approach. The results of using this type of model could be used in risk assessment of ships entering to the ports, therefore it is possible to used probabilistic model in Maritime Office employees’ everyday decision making practice. Research results present verification of probabilistic model, based on data from Vessel Traffic Service database and probability of touching the bottom during ships’ passages on Swinoujscie – Szczecin waterway. Moreover there are presented examples of these situations when entering to the port for analysed ships is not allowed according to the model.

Opis:: The paper proposes a short survey on a few issues currently addressed in telecommunication networks. We show on an example that the k-terminal reliability of recursive families of graphs can also be expressed in terms of products of matrices, leading to a simple asymptotic result. The uncertainty on equipment failure rates, which are not always easy to assess, and the possible occurrence of common-cause failures combine to possibly make the overall connection availability and failure frequency different from their expected values assuming independent failures. We finally discuss a source of impairment in long-haul optical networks, and other current issues where improvements would lead to a reduction of costs and to a better quality of service.

Opis:: One of the most critical systems for a ship operation is the diesel generator set. This is why the ship preserves four different diesel generators except the power battery packs. The paper describes the generator operations and the main failure conditions. Assuming that the failure rate of the system parts is constant the paper show how the diesel generator system could be modelled in the context of Markov theory.

Opis:: The paper describes the analysis and discussion of the transport network systems in case of the critical situation that happens during ordinary work. The formal model is proposed –the point of view combines hardware and software resources as well as task definition and dispatcher role. The types of failure, procedures and methodology to reduce the consequences of the system faults are pointed and categorized. The functional and reliability measures are defined. The approach to modeling is based on the system behavior observation. The definition of the critical situation sets are created by reliability, functional and human reasons. No restriction on the system structure and on a kind of distribution describing the system functional and reliability parameters is the main advantage of the approach. The proposed solution seems to be essential for the owner and administrator of the transportation systems.

Opis:: The paper describes the quality analysis of web services implemented in virtualised environment. It takes into account the reliability and performance aspects of software and hardware elements of the web service. The presented state-transitional model considers the reconfiguration process to maintain the continuity of business services. The reconfiguration is based in on the redeployment of virtual machines so for some time the system operates in a degraded state. Author propose two quality measures based on the web service availability and maximum handled requests calculated at each of degradation levels. Moreover, authors proposed to model the web service reliability parameters by fuzzy numbers. A method for calculating fuzzy membership functions of quality measures are also presented.

Opis:: This paper presents an algorithm to solve the problem of maintenance management of a two state parallel-series system based on preventive maintenance over the different system components. It is assumed that all components of the system exhibit Weibull hazard function and constant repair rate and that preventive maintenance would bring the system to the as good as new condition. The algorithm calculates the interval of time between preventive maintenance tasks for each component, minimizing the costs, and in such a way that the total downtime, in a certain period of time, does not exceed a predetermined value. It is presented an industrial case study where the algorithm is applied.

Opis:: The acceleration of the interconnectivity of networks of all sorts brings to the front scene the issue of networks performance measure. Recently, one observed an accelerating course towards quantitative probabilistic models to describe and assess networks’ Connectivity, as being the main vector of performance. However, modelling realistic networks is still far from being satisfactorily achieved using quantitative probabilistic models. On the other hand, little room had been lift to exploring the potential of topological models to develop qualitative and semi- quantitative models in order to assess networks connectivity. In this paper, we are exploring the potential of the topological modelling. The proposed model is based on describing the nodepair connectivity using binary scalars of different orders (tensors). Preliminary results of our explorations sounded very promoting.
