„The network Tribes” – Internet as a social and intercultural mediumThe Internet communication, including so-called cross-cultural communication, is undoubtedly technologically determined, but also shaped by the “premodern” social relations which were characterized by the dominance of individualism, referring to a sense of collective responsibility not to traditional reference groups (such as the state, the nation, the family and the Church), but to other, more precursory units of an unspecified nature (so-called “new tribes”, human communities of informal nature, the existence of which maintains a network of emotional dependence, comp. Michel Maffesoli (1988). The Time of the Tribes: The Decline of Individualism in Mass Society). However, it remains just as diverse as “offline” communication: it depends primarily on the social, cultural and psychological circumstances of its participants. The contemporary Internet promotes the technological development of cross-cultural social relations, allows for the formation of new social ties, but has no significant effect on their shape and their content.

A large number of diverse models illustrating the complexity of the communication process are used in the communication studies. Those models form the foundation of studies undertaken by scholars and hypotheses employed by them. Current theoretical findings cannot, however, keep up with the change that has happened in the communication process due to digitalization of the media. The author of this article attempts to fill the existing gap by proposing his own model (CTO model, Content-, Technik- und Organisations-Modell), which takes into consideration the frequently omitted area of media production and puts an emphasis on the causal relation between its elements, such as the content, technology, and organization of the media. The main value of the proposed model lies in the fact that its application makes it possible to analyze, with the use of scientific methods, also such phenomena as convergence and internationalization of the media

On the one hand, public media imposed is the realization of specific tasks, called the mission of public media, and other public media operate as commercial companies. The situation is further complicated by the method of funding public media, where the income from the license fee only partially sufficient to cover the roles that public media imposes Polish legislator. This article is an analysis of the financial situation of one of the regional public radio stations - Radio Opole and also the voice in the debate calling for systemic change in the financing of public media in Poland.

The mediatization of the human life space is a consequence of both: the progress of media technologies and mass scale and pluralism of the media. This analysis is an attempt to show some aspects of mediatization processes of life, which I understand as a multi-faceted phenomenon in social communication using technical tools of symbolic forms of communication. These analyzes are probing scientific poll of this phenomenon based on both: empirical knowledge about the processes of technological change in the media, as well as based on the media theory and on the philosophical concepts of contemporary media space.

Opis:
System of social communication is constantly evolving. The history of media shows that new technologies play a significant role in the formation and perception of social environment. In the 21st century, the influence of the Internet on the functioning of the social, political and media institutions has become a subject of interest shared by numerous scholars working within the field of communication and social sciences. Changes in the area of the media are thought to have important economic, cultural, and social consequences. However, the nature and scale of these changes are rather controversial (Briggs i Burke 2010). Technological changes, also those occurring in the world of media, result in drawing two risky conclusions. First of them is that the changes are perceived as an enemy (things are getting worse); second of them is – in opposition to the first one – that changes are seen as progress. In the media, the newest technologies have transformed the nature of the work of organisation and media workers, range of persons creating content, ways of retrieving and spreading information, ways of creating news, as well as ways of news consumption. This article presents changes taking place in the media environment and attempts to indicate further possible directions taken by these changes. The article undertake to indicate the possible direction in which they follow the media and journalism in the era of the dominance of social media, with a focus on the role of Facebook. Is the journalist continues to be the provider of news? What comes down the function of searching for information? Where consumers are looking for news and whether a journalist is still a credible figure?

Opis:
This paper examines the economic coverage of German newspapers at the onset of the financial crisis with the help of framing-theory. It has three basic objectives. The first, to identify the frames in the news coverage. The second: the documentation of these frames and their occurrence as well as their distribution in different media outlets. The third: the examination of inter-media influences, exerted by different media outlets upon each other. The authors introduce the concept of Inter-Media Frame Transfer and apply a multi-method-design composed of a qualitative and quantitative content analysis as well as an ARIMA-time-series analysis. Eight frames are identified. The representation of the crisis as a systemic threat can be seen as the dominant interpretation. Inter-media influences can explain some of the dynamics of media framing. Yet, media framing of the financial crisis appears to be mainly contingent on extra media influences.

The alternative methods of the organisation and content managing in the citizen mediaThe goal of this article is to find  the differences in managing citizen and mainstream media. For this purpose the chosen citizen medium – Wiadomości24.pl (one of the biggest and most popular citizen journalism portal) and two mainstream media - “Gazeta Wyborcza” and “Rzeczpospolita” were compared and quantitative content analysis of the cultural publications was done. According to the Ch. Fush's definition of the alternative media,  to define the medium as an alternative one, it must differ from the mainstream medium in all mentioned dimensions: journalistic production, media product structure, organizational media structure, distribution structure and reception practices. The analysis of the chosen media shows, that the portal Wiadomości24.pl, as a citizen medium, differs a lot from two chosen mainstream media in every dimension. The portal is attuned to its basic function – including the receiver within the communication process as a sender.  That is why, the portal puts all responsibility on prosumers, provides as high interactivity as possible, delimits all formal requirements and offers high openness. Thanks to that, the content published by the citizen reporters is alternative to the content published in mainstream media. The alternative media are supplement for mainstream media and allow a bigger diversity and variety of the form and content. They include the receivers and encourage them to publish their own content and share their experiences with others.  The alternative media cannot replace public and commercial media, but can be a supplement and sometimes the alternative offer

Various studies on the meaning and the scope of mediatization and the relations between media system and political system seem to be insufficient, taking into account of all the transformations that have occurred for the past 6–8 years. The author is concerned how the process of mediatization changed under the influence of new media and ICT. Whether the political parties’ ability to create independent, owned or shared, and mediatized through the world wide web, channels and tools of communication undermined the existing model of political communication? In order to provide a new approach, the author refers to selected aspects of marketing communication and applies media typology based on the PEO(S) model

moral discourses of mediatization, mediasphere, mediatization, new media, media studies, media ethics, information society
Opis:
Moral discourses of mediatizationThe issues of moral order in a globalized communication world have special significance. The participation of the media in shaping it remains undisputed. Mediatization paradoxes perceived in the media oppression with their coincident positive valorization (information and knowledge, entertainment and fun) make the issue of demonstrating its complexity problematic. They are, after all, public service media, whose patterns are directly reflected in the practiced morality. The question whether/how it is possible to care about values in the mediasphere is a guiding principle of this reflection. In search of possible topics of its penetration I address the sender – receiver relation, reaching to the determinants which shape moral attitudes. In an attempt to define and expose them I concentrate on the issue of responsibility, in my opinion a primary category, whose optics allows us to determine the area of desired values, both individual and community ones. Built as a result of critical thinking and collectivization of knowledge it helps to shape moral sensibility. Analyzing the attitude of the journalist arising from their role I place the problem of axiological consequences in individual and social dimensions. I note that ethical reflection understood as a reflection on what we are doing, as a result of understanding the moral qualifications adopted in the interaction, leading to the formation of self-knowledge, enables shaping oneself as a moral entity. It opens areas of social solidarity and cooperation, expressed in the commitment and care by “being for”. The background of the article is a brief characteristics of mediatized reality based on selected sociophilosophical and communicological diagnoses (eg. Bauman, Beck, Bourdieu and Sloterdijk) supplemented with the ideas of Rorty and MacIntyre. The analyses of mediasphere by Vattimo and Castells constitute an important system of references. They are completed by a generalized description of the continually modified media offer, in which the receiver – the user and creator of the media at the same time, exposes his targeted or imposed choices. In such an organized narrative the sender is being examined through the prism of journalistic duties and their possible execution significantly determining certain interpretations of the proposed messages.

Modern societies needing entertainment leave their mark of change also on media which are swiftly becoming part of an existing climate. Also, they want to meet expectations of recipients, so even political content is shown in the light version. The aim of the presentation is to show signs of entertainmentization politics being broadcasted by traditional media and on the Internet which seems to be dominant in this respect. Opis:
Today, we witness two generative forces of digital media culture meeting flexible, open, easy-to-use digital technology and large-scale social communication, sharing of in- formation, knowledge and media representations. These two forces are equally important in media convergence and divergence, but also tightly coupled. This paper traces the root of 'metamedium' concept, developed in late 70s by Alan Kay, to show that at the beginning two crucial aspects of digital revolution were intentionally connected within the project of creating 'personal dynamic media'. Thinking of digital technology as a 'material without qualities' - as a open to any transformation, mutation and extension metamedium - has significant impact on new media discourse. Not only because it reveals essential difference between 'old' and 'new media', but also because it exposes solid ground for practices od media hybridization, innovation or - using Lev Manovich notion - process of 'deep remixability'.
