Aim/purpose – The objective of this paper is to identify the gist of the Special Demographic Zone phenomenon by analyzing the changes in the demographic structure of the EU population at country and regional level. Design/methodology/approach – We have applied the Boolean keyword and subject term searches of scholarly articles published in EBSCO and EMERALD databases, as well as in Google Scholar, between 2006 and 2016, inclusive. The key words used in the analysis were: Special Demographic Zone and Special Demographic Zones. This systematic literature review enabled us to identify 15 scientific articles connected directly with the topic in question. Findings – We found that there are 3 strategies employed by the local and regional self-governments to tackle the demographic challenges. We present them as a 3A model, representing strategies: to acknowledge, to adapt and to (counter) act. We perceive the Special Demographic Zone, defined as a policy tool, as a specific case of an act strategy. Research implications/limitations – The main implication of the research is that there are already tools and mechanism ready to be utilized by the self-governments in order to tackle demographic challenges, which contribute to the local and regional sustainable development. The recommendation for local authorities is to determine which policy direction (as presented in the 3A model) should be embarked on in a given territory in order to maximize the sustainable effect of undertaken actions. Originality/value/contribution – The originality of this work lies in the development of a theoretical 3A model of self-government’s policy reactions to the encountered demographic challenges and in the conceptualization of a Special Demographic Zone as a special case of an act policy strategy within the broad framework of regional socioeconomic policy. Furthermore, the article draws on up-to-date statistical data.

W Polsce o zdrowie osób starszych dba głównie medycyna kuratywna, a działania promujące zdrowie nie są prowadzone na szeroką skalę i nie mają kompleksowego charakteru. Interdyscyplinarna Szkoła Promocji Zdrowia Seniorów jest innowacyjną inicjatywą edukacyjną mającą na celu zwiększenie świadomości zdrowotnej i zmianę zachowań zdrowotnych jej słuchaczy. Słuchacze Szkoły poszerzają wiedzę i umiejętności na temat zagadnień i metod promocji zdrowia w starszym wieku, uczą się, jak zwiększyć stopień integracji z ich opiekunami, mają szanse zwiększyć swoją aktywność zdrowotną i społeczną oraz dokonać zmiany zachowań zdrowotnych. Wiedza o zdrowiu uwzględnia wyniki najnowszych badań o stanie zdrowia osób starszych, obecną sytuację w tym zakresie w Polsce oraz założenia polskiej i unijnej polityki senioralnej. Jest przekazywana w wielu, nie tylko medycznych, wymiarach, także na zajęciach praktycznych i w formie kształcenia partycypacyjnego. Rezultatem programu ma być modelowy program edukacyjny z zakresu promocji zdrowia dla osób starszych, który mógłby zostać wykorzystany na szeroką skalę w przyszłych programach kształcenia i aktywizacji społecznej seniorów.
Health education and promotion as well as illness prevention contributes to activity of old people. In Poland, the health of old people is mainly under care of curative medicine and health promotion activities are not comprehensive and continued on large scale. The Interdisciplinary School of Health Promotion for Seniors is an innovative educational initiative aimed at raising the awareness of health among the School attendees and changing their health behaviors. Participants raise the knowledge and skills on the importance and methods of health promotion in old age, learn how to improve the level of social integrity with their care givers, have a chance to increase health and social activity, and to change their health behaviors. The knowledge on health in School refers to results of recent studies on health and ageing, current situation in Poland, and assumptions of anti-ageing policy in Poland and European Union. It will be shared in multidimensional way, not only in medical terms, tought at workshops and provided through participating education. Result of the program might be a model educational program in health promotion for old people that would be used in large scale in future programs of education and social activity for seniors.

Zjawisko starzenia się ludności ma swoje odzwierciedlenie w strukturze konsumpcji i zachowaniach nabywczych gospodarstw domowych. Wymaga dogłębnego poznania i opisania również ze względu na zwiększające się znaczenie segmentu konsumentów seniorów w gospodarce. Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja uwarunkowań zmian zachowań nabywczych konsumentów seniorów. Badania zachowań seniorów zrealizowano w 2016 r. w Wielkopolsce na próbie 700 respondentów, wykorzystując metodę wywiadu bezpośredniego z zastosowaniem kwestionariusza wywiadu osobistego PAPI.
The phenomenon of population ageing is reflected in the pattern of consumption and purchasing behavior of households. It is necessary to gain in-depth knowledge of this phenomenon. The aim of this paper is to present the results of a study identifying the determinants of changes in purchasing behavior of senior consumers.

Since the beginning of the twentieth century in Europe a process of aging is hastening. Initially the demographic transformation focused on the "old EU", now it is affecting the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland. Poland has exceeded the threshold of demographic old age in 1967. In 2010, the share of people aged over 65 in the total population of country amounted to about 13%. OECD forecasts show that in the year 2050 the elderly population (over 65 years old) will constitute 50% of the Polish population. The European Union and national governments face the challenge of mitigating the socio-economic effects of population aging. At EU, national and regional levels there are implemented the programs of active aging, affecting the elderly in the following dimensions: professional, social and individual. They are addressed primarily to the elderly, but also to other target groups. They counteract the ageism and build the awareness of demographic changes' processes. Education is an extremely important aspect of active aging. It performs two vital roles: delaying the individuals aging process, and furthermore, facilitates adaptation to old age. The essence of the article is to present the concept of active aging, and education functions it that. The study presents the educational activity of the elderly in Poland, too.

Proces starzenia się ludności, który z coraz większym nasileniem obserwujemy w Polsce, wywołuje liczne skutki w sferze społecznej i gospodarczej. Rosnący udział osób starszych w społeczeństwie powoduje konieczność zabezpieczenia ich potrzeb, wśród których na pierwszy plan wysuwają się potrzeby zdrowotne, finansowe, potrzeba wsparcia w życiu codziennym oraz kontaktów międzyludzkich. Przeprowadzone przez autorki badania dotyczące sytuacji osób starszych, których dorosłe dzieci przebywają za granicą pokazały, że stopień zaspokojenia poszczególnych potrzeb jest zróżnicowany w zależności od ich rodzaju, a największe deficyty występują w sferze kontaktów międzyludzkich i aktywnego uczestnictwa w życiu społecznym. Niezwykle istotny jest fakt, że wobec nieobecności dzieci w kraju ciężar udzielania wsparcia spoczywa na instytucjach (ośrodkach pomocy społecznej, organizacjach pozarządowych) oraz osobach z najbliższego otoczenia (sąsiadach). Zachodzi więc konieczność przygotowania kadr o szerokim przekroju kwalifikacji niezbędnych do świadczenia pracy, które w sposób kompleksowy zabezpieczą wszystkie potrzeby seniorów.
The ageing process and its intensification we have been observing in Poland causes many effects in social and economic spheres. The growth in the elderly population leads to a necessity of securing the needs of this group, among which the most important are health and financial needs and a necessity of support in their everyday lives and people-to-people contacts. The conducted by the Authors' research on the situation of elderly whose adult children reside abroad showed that meeting respective needs varies and depends on the type of these needs, and the biggest deficits are observed in the people-to-people and active social participation spheres. Very important is the fact that due to the absence of their grown children in the country, the burden of providing support falls on institutions (social welfare centers, non-governmental organizations) as well as the people around them (such as neighbors). It is therefore necessary to provide a team of specialists with broad competence and experience required to provide services that in a comprehensive manner will ensure that all needs of eth elderly are met.

W ocenie stopnia zaawansowania starości demograficznej wykorzystuje się wiele miar. Na ile zatem ich wybór różnicuje ocenę tego zjawiska w ujęciu przestrzennym. Rozważania prowadzone były dla lat 1991-2011 według województw przy wykorzystaniu wskaźnika i indeksu starości oraz przeciętnego dalszego trwania życia oraz miary asymetrii rozkładu. Zbadano również, na ile województwa odznaczające się podobnym poziomem wartości danej miary, tworzą zwarte przestrzennie obszary oraz czy część Polski zachodniej charakteryzuje się mniejszym stopniem zaawansowania tego procesu, aniżeli jej część wschodnia.
In the assessment of the degree of the progress of the demographic old age a lot of measures are being exploited. To what extent and so their choice is diversifying the evaluation of this occurrence in the spatial perspective. Dissertations are being kept for 1991-2011 years, according to provinces at using the indicator and the index of the old age and the average of life and measures of the asymmetry of the disintegration. We have examined also, to what extent provinces being characterized by a similar level of the measure given to the value form clenched spatially areas and whether part of western Poland to be characterized oneself with lower degree of the progress of this process than her eastern part.

Współcześnie kraje europejskie są znacznie zróżnicowane pod względem zaawansowania starości demograficznej. We wszystkich tych jednostkach proces starzenia się (definiowany jako sukcesywny wzrost udziałów osób starszych w populacji) implikuje wiele niekorzystnych następstw, zarówno ekonomicznych, jak i społecznych. Wśród tych pierwszych do najpoważniejszych należą zmniejszanie się potencjalnych zasobów pracy oraz spadek wydolności finansowej systemów emerytalnych. Celem artykułu jest analiza przemian w strukturach wieku populacji krajów europejskich zaobserwowanych na przestrzeni minionych dwóch dekad oraz zmian prognozowanych w perspektywie kolejnych 20 lat. Szczególna uwaga w tym względzie została zwrócona na starzenie się potencjalnych zasobów pracy.
This paper aims to present the analysis of both: the changes in population structure of the European countries over the past two decades and the changes projected over the next 20 years. It also stresses the problem of the ageing of potential labour force, which is valid in all European countries. The changes in population age structure (which are visible in progressing population ageing process) influence the countries on many levels, referring to the various parts of socio-economic life. The most salient economic consequences of these changes seem a decrease in the potential labour resources and a decline in the financial stability of the social security system.

W ocenie stopnia zaawansowania starości demograficznej wykorzystuje się wiele miar. Pytanie, na ile ich przestrzenna analiza prowadzi do podobnych wniosków. W rozważaniach wykorzystano różne wskaźniki starości i wyniki badań prowadzonych dla lat 1991-2011 według województw. Dodatkowo zbadano, czy grupy województw odznaczające się podobnym poziomem wartości miary starości demograficznej tworzyły zwarte przestrzennie obszary (posiadały co najmniej jedną wspólną granicę), czy część Polski zachodniej charakteryzowała się mniejszym stopniem zaawansowania tego procesu aniżeli jej część wschodnia oraz czy ten przestrzenny obraz ulegał zmianie w czasie.
In the assessment of the degree of the old age a lot of measures are being exploited. Question, to what extent spatial analysis is leading them to similar conclusions. In deliberations indicators of the old age were used. Kept dissertations were for years 1991-2011 according to provinces. Additionally they examined, whether groups of provinces being characterized by a similar level of the value of the measure of the old age formed clenched spatially areas; whether the part of western Poland was characterized by a lower degree of the progress of this process than her eastern part as well as whether this spatial image underwent the change over time.

The aim of this paper is to provide a statistical description of the demographic structure of the members of the Open Pension Funds as well as its dynamics. The paper also describes the process of ageing of the Open Pension Funds' members taking into account the whole operating period of the funds. Selected demographic measures were used to analyze the demographic structure changes of the funds' members in total and by sex and age. To describe the process of ageing some alternative measures based on central moments of the empirical distributions were employed. The analysis reveals a significant differences of the process of ageing between the funds.

Opis:
Methods of spatial statistics are used to identify spatial patterns and spatial dependency. Testing occurrence of spatial dependency boils down to verify the hypothesis of the existence of spatial autocorrelation in the data spatially localized. The evaluation of spatial autocorrelation requires the knowledge of the extent and specificity of spatial diversity, i.e. diversity of characteristics of individual sites and geographic regions. The main objective of this paper is to study the dynamics of an aging population as well as analysis of the spatial dependences of the ageing index. Research will be conducted using measures of global and local spatial autocorrelation. The data used in analysis come from the Local Data Bank of the Central Statistical Office. All calculations and presented maps were made in the R CRAN.

The aim of this article is to highlight the problem of the ageing society that will be faced by the broadly defined logistics discipline. A systematic growth in the percentage of the elderly in the total population has been observed for many years. Numerous publications on population forecasts provide evidence for the shaping of the new demographic order on a global scale. This problem has been more and more frequently perceived not only as an economic and social threat but also as a development opportunity for those companies that will offer innovative solutions adjusted to the needs of the elderly. The ageing society also becomes a potential that should be noticed by enterprises providing logistics services as well. The article includes the literature studies in the areas of demography and grey power logistics. It presents the results of demographic forecasts. The article describes opportunities and threats associated with the trend of the ageing population. It also shows a senior-oriented policy in the EU and Poland. The paper introduces the issue of the grey power logistics as a megatrend in logistics and discusses logistics challenges in the light of the ageing society.
Celem artykułu jest zaakcentowanie problemu starzejącego się społeczeństwa, z którym będzie musiała się zmierzyć szeroko rozumiana logistyka. Od wielu lat mówi się o systematycznym wzroście odsetka ludzi starszych w populacji. Publikowane liczne prognozy ludności świadczą bowiem o kształtowaniu się nowego porządku demograficznego świata. Coraz częściej problem ten postrzega się nie tylko jako zagrożenie ekonomiczne i społeczne, ale również jako szansę na rozwój firm, które zaproponują innowacyjne rozwiązania dostosowane do potrzeb ludzi starszych. Starzejące się społeczeństwo jest także potencjałem, który powinien zostać zauważony przez przedsiębiorstwa świadczące usługi logistyczne. W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki prognoz demograficznych. Omówiono szanse i zagrożenia związane z trendem starzejącego się społeczeństwa oraz zwrócono uwagę na postawę Unii Europejskiej i polskiego rządu wobec analizowanego problemu. W opracowaniu przedstawiono również zagadnienie grey power logistics jako megatrendu w logistyce oraz zidentyfikowano wyzwania, jakie stoją przed logistyką wobec starzejącego się społeczeństwa.

Purpose of the article is to demonstrate the impact of aging populations on migration of population permanently. To this end, use the method of standardization. We'll give you an analysis of changes in the demographic structure of the population and migration rates by age between 1990 and 2009 and their forecast for 2030s.

Opis:
Elderly care and support in their daily lives is one of the most significant challenges of an ageing population. The increasing demand for various types of support (both in the community and in institutions) should be considered in the context of existing socioeconomic- cultural-demographic characteristics. This article presents models of care for dependent elderly people and the analysis how various models fit the situation of dependency care in Poland. Five models describing the dependencies and coupling between informal help provided within the family network and community support networks and formal help are: hierarchical compensatory model, substitutional model, specificity model, supplementation model, complementarity model. The organization of care for the elderly in Poland introduced by the authority can be established that is consistent with the hierarchical compensatory model. This model is most effective, but in Poland is still not completely implemented, and the fragmentation makes that seniors do not receive optimal support.
