Opis:
The aim of this article is to present how aid is offered to the unemployed and how it is registered in Poland. Special attention is given to profiling as the new kind of aid offered. The procedure was introduced elsewhere already in the 1990 s whereas in Poland it has been in use for two years now. The paper is based on the oficial statistics provided by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the National Bank of Poland, and interviews with civil servants working with the unemployed. The analysis points to the need for diversification of the kinds of profiling aid for the unemployed.

Opis:
For years ongoing discussion whether education should be more academic or professional, whether and to what extent higher education is designed to meet the labor market and social needs, how to bring universities closer to the labor market and thus, to potential employers, and finally how to influence schools (and candidates) to educate in the fields and professions with high demand in the labor market. Currently observed problems are evidence of the lack of a holistic view of the labor market and education. The aim of the study was to confront last years students' notions of the labor market and its requirements with the reality found by graduates. The implementation of the study was divided into 3 stages. The first phase was completed in 2010 on a sample of 325 last years students, the second in 2012, resulting in collecting 240 declaration of consent and participation and the third in 2013, which ended with collecting 90 surveys form graduates. There is the social belief that the ability to find a satisfactory place at unsustainable labor market varies for different social categories. The situation is different for men and women, for urban and rural areas, for low and narrowly skilled workers. The consequence of such thinking was (and to some extent still is) the belief that having a higher education is an important asset in searching for a (better) job and in extreme perception is a guarantee of its acquisition. As a result of such belief is clearly perceptible lack of employment of university graduates or lack of satisfaction due to getting a job incompatible with the interests and qualifications. In this situation taking the perspective of students/graduates under consideration and collating of their professional and educational aspirations with regional labor market needs and responsiveness are important components.

The labour market is constantly changing. There are changes in the age structure of economically active people as well as in their competences. The article presents intermentoring as a way of sharing information between people belonging to different age categories: 50plus (Baby Boomers) and 35minus (Generation Y). It also shows the results of a survey, which revealed the limited knowledge of respondents about mentoring, but also their need to participate in this training technique.

Opis:
In Poland and other European Union member states, young people are disfavoured by employers in the labour market. This applies to the forms of employment (flexible and fixed- term contracts) and its financial conditions. In 2013, the unemployment rate among economically active population under the age of 25 in the EU was 23.1%, while in Poland it amounted to 27 %. The problems of the young people in the labour market include the mismatch of skills sought by employers and the ones mastered by potential employees, the limited number of new jobs, as well as the discriminatory practices of employers towards young people. Young people classified as NEET (not in employment, education, training) generate considerable social costs. In 2010, 16.5 % of individuals in the 18–24 group and 19.7 % in the 25 29 group in the EU were classified as  NEETs. The EU supported the member states’ governments actions regarding young people via the Lisbon Strategy and the Europe 2020 Strategy. The EU also proposed a new model for flexible management of the labour market (the so-called flexicurity) to improve the efficiency of labour markets and to ensure more jobs while fostering social security of workers. In Poland, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy implemented the government policy as well as the recommendations of the European Commission through the “Youth in the labour market” programme.

There has been a visible trend of increasing migration from Ukraine to Poland since 2014. Immigrants are becoming a part of the Polish labour market. It is interesting to look at immigrants from the perspective of challenges faced by human resource management processes (HRM) in the enterprises employing them. Thus, the purpose of the study was to answer the questions: What are the characteristics of migration from Ukraine to Poland? Are there any studies in the area of human resource management in relation to the issue of migration of Ukrainians to Poland? What the directions of future research in the area of HRM in the context of migration of Ukrainians to Poland should be? In the pursuit after the above goals, one has used, among others, literature research, analysis of foreign research results, own pilot studies conducted with representatives of employees from Ukraine and their employers.

Opis:
The pork value chain is created by a network of interconnected suppliers and customers, offering meat products to final consumers. Pork production and processing in Poland is highly fragmented, which together with an increasing global pressure weakens the engagement of institutional actors in the social dialogue. This makes difficult to combat negative labour market phenomena such as low wages, long working hours, and lack of appropriate contracts. In order to diagnose the specificity of labour market challenges in Poland and possible ways of combating them, structured interviews with key stakeholders were conducted. They confirmed the existence of abusive practices in the local pork industry and the need for strengthening the social dialogue. Conclusions from the research include recommendations for further exploration of the issue.

The paper explores the issue of progressing convergence of labour markets in two EU member states from the Southern (Italy and Spain) and Eastern (Poland) regions of the continent. After 2008 the series of crises hit the South particularly hard, which triggered profound labour market reforms. As a result Southern European countries have been facing growing flexibility and employment insecurity that had characterised Eastern Europe prior to the economic breakdown. On the other hand, the paper takes a look at Poland - which has avoided the worst consequences of the crisis - in an attempt to establish whether the country has moderated their neoliberal reforms, drawing on painful experiences of the South.

This case study, developed by the author, describes the case of three municipalities of North Masovia: Pszasnysz, Chorzele i Myszyniec, whose Municipal Social Assistance  Centres were conducting projects within the framework of the Human Capital  Programme.  According to the document National Strategic Frameworks of Reference (National  Strategy of Cohesiveness,) all European Social Fund resources in Poland during the  years 2007 – 2013 (9.7 billion Euro) were used for tasks as part of the Human Capital  Programme.  Th e Human Capital Programme aims primarily to increase of employment and social  cohesion. Several sub-targets are derived from this main goal:  1. Increasing the level of work activity and employment capabilities of the unemployed  and jozbpassive;  2. Decreasing areas of social exclusion;  3. Improving employees’ and firms’ capabilities to adapt to a changing economy;  4. Improving the cohesion of society’s education on every level of learning by simultaneously  increasing the quality of educational services and linking them more  strongly to a knowledge -based economy;  5. Increasing public service’s potential within the range of developing polices, providing  high quality services and strengthening mechanisms of partnership  6. Increasing of territorial integrity.  Th is case study seeks to answer the question: How many of the local government’s  implementations using European Union funds fulfil the Human Capital Programme’s  assumptions? Th e study of these three municipalities provides a basis for further  studies in which I will conduct a more detailed analysis of implemented programs’  efficiency and their impact on communities’ social and economic development.

The values of employees and their ability to realise them in the workplace influence their commitment to work, and thus their salaries and productivity. The values of Ukrainian citizens working in Poland have so far been little explored. Therefore, the aim of the article is to get to know these values and to compare them with the values professed by working Poles. The text uses the results of research contained in the literature, conducted mainly in Poland, as well as the author’s own research.

A monograph starts with a short introduction in which professor Wiesława Kozek wrote, ‘this book formed for a long time. Probably it was too long…’ Having read this book, I came to a conclusion that it might be an asset that Prof Kozek wrote this book without haste thus she wrote a systematic monograph which synthesizes two decades of the Polish Labour Market since its inception through the phase of institutionalisation till a firmly established institution of the labour market in Poland. Consequently, the outcome is an encyclopaedic study presenting in details intricate issues which concern not only the labour market, but other sociological aspects of labour relations. Due to the fact that a diachronic aspect is strongly emphasized in the monograph, the book became the first comprehensive history of development of the labour market in Poland after 1989.

In the study I exploit European Social Survey Round 5 data to identify the determinants of temporary employment in Poland. As in this country the share of employees working under contracts of limited duration is the highest among all European Union member states, identifying the determinants of temporary employment is important not only for individuals but also for the policy-makers. The results of the analysis are supplemented with an investigation of the determinants of temporary employment for people younger than 30 years old as this phenomenon is commonly associated with young employees.

Based on the qualitative research conducted in 2010-2011 in Silesia, the paper focuses on the issue of mutual perception of union leaders in trade industry and female leaders in women's organisations. It also analyses factors facilitating the integration of the both movements and their actual cooperation so far and emphasises the potential of their synergic cooperation.
