Opis:
L X-ray fluorescence cross-sections of some elements in the atomic number range 50 ≤ Z ≤ 59 have been calculated theoretically according to subshell excitation energies of elements. The Coster-Kronig transitions (f₁₂, f₂₃, and f₁₃) are non-radiative transitions. The Coster-Kronig enhancement factors due to the effect of the Coster-Kronig transitions on L X-ray fluorescence cross-sections have been calculated theoretically. The calculated values have been compared with other earlier experimental and theoretical values.

Opis:
The purpose of this study is synthesis, characterization and enzyme activity functions of novel dinuclear metal complexes. Therefore two new dinuclear heterometallic cobat(II)-copper(II) complexes have been synthesized and structurally characterized by using Fourier transform infrared method, elemental analysis, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry, molar conductivity, magnetic moment measurements and thermal analysis. Spectroscopic and stoichiometric data of the metal complexes indicated that the metal:ligand ratio of the complexes were found to be 2:1. Both of the complexes are 1:2 electrolytes as shown by their molar conductivities and paramagnetism. The subnormal magnetic moment values of the dinuclear complexes were explained by an antiferromagnetic interaction. Additionally complexes were each tested both for their ability to oxidation reaction of 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol to the 3,5-di-tert-butyl-o-benzoquinone presence of O₂ and catalyse the disproportionation of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of the added base imidazole. It was found that both of the complexes exhibited good catecholase and catalase-like enzyme activity.

The voltage, V, dependences of the differential tunnel conductance G(V) were calculated for two kinds of junctions involving normal and superconducting charge-density-wave metals (CDWMs) in the external magnetic field H. The first is a non-symmetrical junction with a CDWM electrode being biased with respect to a ferromagnet. Calculations show that the paramagnetic splitting occurs between spin-up and spin-down components of G(V), similar to what is observed when a superconducting electrode is used instead of the CDWM one. The second setup is symmetric (CDWM-I-CDWM), where I denotes an insulator. If at least one of the CDWM electrodes is normal and H≠0, G(V) will also be spin-split.

Opis:
A method of surface potential determination in semiconductors by means of the transverse acoustoelectric effect is described. The results of theoretical analysis of the transverse acoustoelectric voltage versus surface potential and different surface electrical parameters in indium phosphate single crystals are presented. The experimental results of the surface potential investigations have been obtained after various surface treatments in InP(110) and InP(100) crystals. A strong influence of the chemical and mechanical surface treatments upon the surface potential values has been observed from the measurements. The surface InP(110) was more sensitive to different surface treatments. The changes of the surface potential values were about two times greater for InP(110) than for InP(100) samples. The surface potentials after surface treatments obtained by the acoustics method were of the range -0.08 [V] to -0.22 [V].

The surface states of 3d transition metals are studied by scanning tunneling microscopy and scanning tunneling spectroscopy. The results show that surface states can be used for chemical identification with high spatial resolution. The spin polarized nature of the surface states allows us to obtain magnetic contrast in scanning tunneling miroscopy imaging with near atomic resolution. For Cr(100) we found that the surface state close to the Fermi level can be explained by an orbital Kondo resonance surface state.

Opis:
The properties of carbon nanotubes can be dramatically altered by the presence of defects. In this work we address the properties of two different kinds of defective nanotubes: junctions of achiral tubes with topological defects and partially unzipped carbon nanotubes. In particular, we begin by focussing on the interface states in carbon nanotube junctions between achiral tubes. We show that their number and energies can be derived by applying the Born-von Karman boundary condition to an interface between armchair- and zigzag-terminated semi-infinite graphene layers. We show that these interface states, which were thought to be due to the presence of topological defects, are in fact related to the graphene zigzag edge states. Secondly, we study partially unzipped carbon nanotubes, which can be considered as the junction of a carbon nanotube and a graphene nanoribbon, which has edge features giving rise to novel properties. Carbon nanoribbons act as transparent contacts for nanotubes and viceversa, yielding a high conductance. At certain energies, nanoribbons behave as valley filters for carbon nanotubes; this holds considering electron-electron interaction effects. Furthermore, the application of a magnetic field turns the system conducting, with a 100% magnetoresistance. These novel structures may open a way for new carbon-based devices.

We studied synthesis and crystal growth of $Bi_2Te_3,$ $Bi_2Se_3$ and $Bi_2Te_2Se$ compounds by means of vertical Bridgman method. Crystals were grown from stoichiometric melts and under different molar ratio of Bi:Te, Bi:Se or Bi:Te:Se. The obtained crystals were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and the Hall effect measurements. Some of the samples demonstrated insulating bulk behavior, by means of resistivity versus temperature measurements.

Opis:
The paper presents methods of designing sonotrodes, working in varied mechanical vibration modes in high power application regime such as rotary ultrasonic welding systems. The aim of the sonotrode design process is to optimize its shape to achieve the best energy efficiency for a given welding process. Sonotrode geometry influences the power transferred to the welded element because it determines the vibration amplitude distribution in the sonotrode. The most popular applications use sonotrodes designed for axial vibration. Conducted research have shown that the optimal displacement and strain distribution is achieved for sonotrodes working in various vibration modes such as axial, transverse, radial or their compositions. In the paper examples of multimode sonotrode models for various rotary ultrasonic welding technologies have been presented.

Opis:
A compact soft X-ray microscope based on a nitrogen double-stream gas puff target soft X-ray source, operating at He-like nitrogen spectral line at the wavelength of λ =2.88 nm is presented. The desk-top size microscope was successfully demonstrated in transmission mode using the Fresnel zone-plate objective and it is suitable for soft X-ray source microscopy in the "water window" spectral range (λ = 2.3÷ 4.4 nm). Details about the soft X-ray source source, the microscope and an example of application in the biomedical field are shown and discussed.
