Opis:
In this paper we discuss the line shapes of a two-level atom in the presence of broad-band squeezed vacuum and collisional broadening. We describe the collisions and the squeezed vacuum using a stochastic model of Rabi amplitude fluctuations. From such a stochastic description the fast and the slow damping rates of the Bloch polarizations are obtained. The strong field resonance fluorescence spectrum in the presence of stochastic broad-band squeezed vacuum and collisions is derived.

Structural changes of Co$\text{}_{66}$Ni$\text{}_{12}$ Si$\text{}_{9}$B$\text{}_{13}$ amorphous alloy, stimulated by isochronal and isothermal annealing, were observed by means of the methods: electrical resistivity, Hall effect and X-ray diffraction. In the amorphous matrix at the temperature 673 K phasesα-Co and (Co,Ni)$\text{}_{5}$Si$\text{}_{2}$B are created, while at the temperature 773 K the phase (Co,Ni)$\text{}_{3}$B is formed. The structural phase transitions are related to abrupt decrease in electrical and Hall resistivities at the background of systematic decrease in these parameters values during the alloy transition from the amorphous to the crystalline state.

Opis:
Solute-solvent interactions were studied by a method based on laser induced optical birefringence in aqueous solutions. The paper reports results of the optical Kerr constant measurements for binary liquid mixtures of aqueous solution of methanol, ethanol, n-propanol and acetone at room temperature in a wide range of concentrations. At 50% concentration of the above mentioned alcohols, the temperature dependence of the laser induced optical birefringence was also measured in the range from 283 K to 315 K. These data together with the density and refractive index were used to calculate the optical and specific Kerr constants. Moreover, these data enabled the calculation of the anisotropic factors, optical anisotropy and orientation function of the substances studied.

The analytical explanation of axial birefringence revealed earlier by the technique of field applied molecular dynamics computer simulation is given. The point group symmetries of achiral molecules admitting the effect are determined and the estimation of the anisotropy is presented. The effect may give information on off-diagonal elements of the Rosenfeld polarizability tensor of achiral molecules.

Quantum mechanical arguments show that any optical amplifier must add noise to the amplified beam of light. For the case of a high gain amplifier with a coherent (Poissonian) input, the signal-to-noise ratio of the amplified beam must be at least two times smaller than that of the incident beam. We review the theoretical basis of this prediction. We also describe the results of our experimental investigations of the noise properties of optical amplifiers that utilize the nonlinear optical response of strongly driven atomic transitions.

A decoherence problem is discussed by means of quantum continuous measurement theory. It is shown that the conditional state of quantum system interacting with a bath preserves its initial purity. In this presentation decoherence arises as a result of averaging over the stochastic times of reduction moments ("clicks"). A method based on external phase feedback is proposed to slow down the decoherence of field superposition state in an open optical cavity. It is also shown that an atom placed inside the optical cavity plays a role of internal self-organized positive feedback between field and atom, which leads to an exponential increase in the mean dipole moment of the atom for the field initially prepared in a superposition of coherent states, i.e. to quantum instability.

The paper presents a measuring stand which permits to determine the attenuation and modal birefringence of planar waveguide structures. The light is introduced into the waveguide through a prismatic coupler. This permits to determine attenuations of the subsequent modes. Mounting the polarizer in front of the lens of the camera it becomes possible to determine on the same test stand the modal birefringence of orthogonal pair of modes of the same order.

A detailed stability analysis is performed for a highly excited semiconductor modelled as an exciton-electron-hole-photon system driven externally by optical pumping. Chaotic self-pulsations are shown to occur on both the upper and lower branches of the bistable steady state curve of the system via a sequence of period-doubling oscillation process. Such a route to chaos is well known in laser physics and in other nonlinear systems but not in highly excited semiconductors yet.

A study of magneto-optical circular birefringence of human serum from healthy subjects and cancer patients was performed. Significant differences in the magnetic field induced change of the natural optical activity of serum from healthy blood donors and neoplasmic patients were noted. The natural optical activity of blood is positive, irrespective of the donor health status, whereas the magnetic field induced (B > 10T) change in the natural optical activity of the serum from cancer patients is negative while that from healthy donors is positive. The value and sign of the characteristic magneto-optical marker of human serum was discovered in a study of the influence of very high magnetic fields on chiral media and interpreted on the basis of the recent developments in the theory of magnetic field induced optical circular birefringence in the media revealing natural optical activity. The blood serum is a chiral medium.

Glasses and amorphous materials show, coexisting with the sound waves, a variety of low energy excitations: tunneling, quasi-localized vibrations and relaxations. The latter two are observed well into the liquid state. Using molecular dynamics both were shown to be centred on more than ten atoms or molecular units, which form chain-like structures. With increasing frequency the interaction of the quasi-localized modes with the sound waves and with each other increases, they delocalize. However, even at the so-called boson peak frequency, where the sound waves become overdamped due to the interaction, the vibrations can be decomposed into local and extended modes. Closely correlated with the local vibrations are the local relaxations, which can be envisaged as collective jumps of groups of atoms. With rising temperature both the total jump length and the number of atoms participating increases. In the melt when single jumps are no longer resolved one still observes a collective motion of chains of atoms.

PbWO₄ crystal-Hamamatsu S8148 avalanche photodiode (APD) assembly has been used in the barrel section of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter. The shot noise of the photodiode is one of the important parameters for the energy resolution of the crystal-APD system. The major source of this noise is the statistical variations in the rate at which primary charge carriers are generated and recombine. Thus, the shot noise varies with position of the primary charge carriers generated in photodiode. In this work, the shot noise properties of the Hamamatsu S8148 APD structure and zinc sulfide-silicon (ZnS-Si) isotype heterojunction APD structure have been compared for the PbWO₄ photons. Calculations were made with a Single Particle Monte Carlo simulation technique.

The most fundamental property of an immersion coupler is the possibility to change fluently the propagation length while immersing the waveguide.

Opis:
A driver of a municipal transport bus is more liable to vibration-acoustic stimuli connected with the movement of the vehicle than a passenger. In literature on the subject noise and vibration exposures are categorised into passive (whereby passengers are exposed) and active (driver's or machine operator's exposure). Despite new technological solutions and attempts to improve the working conditions during the operation of vehicles, city bus drivers are still exposed to negative impacts of noise and vibrations, causing stress, increased fatigue and lead to numerous diseases. It is required, therefore, that the working conditions for drivers should be monitored on a regular basis. In order that they work safely, their working conditions should be as comfortable as possible, in terms of physical and psychical conditions and free from any nuisance. Therefore it seems merited to investigate the acoustic climate (i.e. acoustic phenomena caused by the sources of noise of vibrations in the function of time and space) and the working conditions during the operation of MAN SG242 vehicles, widely used in public transport systems. The following conclusions can be formulated (based on the conducted tests): the highest effective weighted values of vibration acceleration a_w, eq (0.823 m/$s^{2}$) (exceedance of the legitimate value) were noted in the passengers' compartment in the middles of the vehicle, the lowest- in the driver's cabin (0.411 m/$s^{2}$). In the driver's cabin, the peak noise level $L_C$ peak = 138.7 dB was exceeded; as the 1/3 octave analyses show, in the driver's cabin dominates low-frequency noise with the frequency from 10 to 25 Hz and the acoustic pressure level of about 90 dB (G). The research has been conducted within the framework of the author's research no 10.10.130.140 and the statuary ones no 11.11.130.119.

Therefore it seems merited to investigate the acoustic climate (i.e. acoustic phenomena caused by the sources of noise of vibrations in the function of time and space) and the working conditions during the operation of Solaris Urbino 12 vehicles, widely used in public transport systems. The main aim of the research was to show the influence of the 5 day, 8 h working week on selected psycho-physiological parameters on a driver's organism. It was assumed that the main aggravating factor of the driver's organism are vibroacoustics conditions of a work place. The results of this research will be presented in due course. This work presents the research on vibroacoustic climate in one of many city buses used - Solaris Urbino 12. Investigation of the vibroacoustic climate is the branch of environmental biophysics. The measurements, tests and analysis are genuine because they were carried out under real conditions, with passengers, in the long stretches of time and in the entire route of the vehicle. Presented results are very rarely reported in the literature.
