Opis:
We analyzed the failure characteristics of the bulk metallic glass $Co_{43}Fe_{20}Ta_{5.5}B_{31.5}$ (at.%) deformed by compression and by bending of the ribbons. Under the load the amorphous structure can store high elastic energy. The surface morphology of nanoscale fracture is in accord with the micromechanisms of the failure of the amorphous structure. The fracture surface consists of a smooth mirror cleavage zone and a river pattern zone with nanosized dimples, arranged in lines respecting the periodic corrugation zones, oriented perpendicular to the crack propagation direction. The presence of the failure initiation centers in the ribbon influences the dynamics of crack propagation and also the surface morphology of the fracture.

Opis:
The Finemet type amorphous alloys are well known as high frequency soft magnetic materials. They have good soft magnetic properties which are characterized by low coercive force and high permeability because of the lack of crystalline anisotropy. The structural stability of the amorphous ribbon of Finemet type modified by Mn, Al and Cr prepared by melt-spinning process was studied using differential scanning calorimetry and dynamical mechanical analysis. With increase of the crystalline portion in the sample, the Curie transition is shifted to the higher temperatures. The magnetic relaxation processes at frequencies above 10⁴ Hz were detected by mass magnetic susceptibility measurement.

Structural changes of Co$\text{}_{66}$Ni$\text{}_{12}$ Si$\text{}_{9}$B$\text{}_{13}$ amorphous alloy, stimulated by isochronal and isothermal annealing, were observed by means of the methods: electrical resistivity, Hall effect and X-ray diffraction. In the amorphous matrix at the temperature 673 K phasesα-Co and (Co,Ni)$\text{}_{5}$Si$\text{}_{2}$B are created, while at the temperature 773 K the phase (Co,Ni)$\text{}_{3}$B is formed. The structural phase transitions are related to abrupt decrease in electrical and Hall resistivities at the background of systematic decrease in these parameters values during the alloy transition from the amorphous to the crystalline state.

Opis:
The main limitation of high-strength Co-based bulk metallic glasses for their application as structural materials is the large brittleness. Spontaneously emerging cracks in the alloy degrade the magnetic properties. We analyzed the failure characteristics of $Co_{43}Fe_{20}Ta_{5.5}B_{31.5}$ bulk soft magnetic metallic glass deformed in the compression at room temperature and the low strain rate. Under loading the amorphous structure stores high elastic energy. During the failure this energy is released and the alloy breaks into small particles or powder exhibiting a fragmentation mode.

Opis:
Influence of heat treatment on magnetic properties of amorphous Hf₂Co₁₁B alloy was investigated. Hard magnetic phase, characterized by high magnetic anisotropy, appears during crystallization. The highest coercive field equal to 1.86 kOe, was obtained for sample annealed in third crystallization stage. Longer heat treatment at T_{a} = 650°C leads to decrease in coercive field, which can be the result of excess of the HfCo₃B₂ phase volume fraction and additionally eutectoid transformation of hard magnetic phase into soft magnetic Co₂₃B₆ and fcc-Co. Decrease of volume fraction of hard phase is confirmed by the remanence ratio m_{r}. Value of m_{r}, for T_{a} = 650°C, is decreasing with annealing time from 0.4 to 0.27 for 30 min and 120 min, respectively. The magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant K₁ increases from 2.23 Merg/cm³ for the amorphous ribbon to 15.84 Merg/cm³ for the sample annealed at 650°C for 30 min.

Opis:
The corrosion behavior of the bulk glassy samples of Ca₆₅Mg₁₅Zn₂₀ alloy was studied by electrochemical measurements and immersion tests in a simulated body fluid, physiological fluid, and the Ringer solution. The results of immersion show that the volume of H₂ evolved after 2 h in simulated body fluid (29.8 ml/cm²) is the highest in comparison with the results of measurements conducted in physiological fluid (11.3 ml/cm²) and the Ringer solution (7.4 ml/cm²). The electrochemical measurements indicated a shift of the corrosion potential (E_{corr}) from -1.58 V for plate tested in a physiological fluid to -1.56 V and -1.54 V for samples immersed in the Ringer solution and simulated body fluid, adequately. The X-ray diffraction measurements were used to determine composition of corrosion products. The corrosion products were mainly identified to be calcium carbonates and calcium/magnesium hydroxides.

Opis:
$Fe_{75}Co_5Zr_{10}B_{10}$ amorphous alloy prepared by melt-spinning was annealed at various temperatures. The thermal property and microstructures were investigated by differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. The crystallization process of $Fe_{75}Co_5Zr_{10}B_{10}$ amorphous alloy is complex. The α-Fe phase precipitates from the amorphous matrix in the initial stage of crystallization. The α-Mn type (χ) phase precipitates at 570°C, but transforms to α-Fe phase and the Laves C14(λ) phase at higher temperature. In the final stage of crystallization, $Fe_3Zr$, $Fe_2Zr$, and unknown phases are observed and the λ-phase disappears. The α-Fe phase preferentially nucleates after annealing at 530C for 10 min and the χ-phase preferentially nucleates after annealing at 600C for 10 min. The nucleation barrier of χ-phase is larger than that of α-Fe phase. The local structure of χ-phase is more similar to amorphous phase.

Opis:
The paper presents a characterization of the phase structure by X-ray diffraction and isothermal magnetic entropy changes for the amorphous Fe₅₈Co₁₀Zr₁₀Mo₅W₂B₁₅ alloy sample in the as-quenched state. An ingot sample was obtained by arc-melting. The ribbon sample was obtained by the melt-spinning technique. The magnetic measurements at various temperatures allowed for the study of the Curie temperature T_{C} and magnetic entropy changes |ΔS_{M}|. In order to determine the Curie temperature T_{C} of amorphous phase, three independent methods were used. Determination of the Curie temperature T_{C} for the amorphous alloys is not a trivial problem, as magnetization does not decreases rapidly around T_{C}. Therefore it is essential issue to establish T_{C} using few complementary methods. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a fully amorphous structure of the ribbon samples.

The Y₈Co₆₂B₃₀ amorphous alloy is a collinear ferromagnet. The Arrott plot, the Kouvel-Fisher method, critical isotherm analysis and magnetic field dependence of maximum magnetic entropy changes were the main analytical tools used to determine the nature of the ferromagnetic/paramagnetic phase transition. Values of critical exponents (β, γ, and δ) were calculated and were convergent with those characteristic for mean-field model. It suggests that long range ferromagnetic interactions are playing main role in investigated alloy and the phase transition was confirmed to be of a second order according to the Banerjee criterion.

Complex permeability $(μ=μ_1-iμ_2)$ after-effect of near-zero magnetostrictive CoFeCrSiB amorphous alloy was investigated in magnetic field H (t)= $H_0$ exp ( i 2π f t) after demagnetization. For frequencies f from 200 Hz to 2000 Hz and for the small amplitude H_0 < $H_{cr}$ we observed practically constant both real $μ_1$ and imaginary part $μ_2$ of permeability. A measured small decrease in the real part $μ_1$ and increase in the imaginary part $μ_2$ with frequency f were theoretically calculated for a quadratic form of a domain wall potential $E_S$ (x)=1/2α $x^2$. The calculated loss factortan δ = $μ_2 μ_1$, which is small at amplitude $H_0$ < $H_{cr}$, corresponds to power losses due to eddy currents induced around reversibly moving domain walls.

It was shown that soft magnetic properties of $Fe_{78}Nb_{2}B_{20}$ amorphous alloy can be significantly improved by applying 1-h annealing at temperature 623 K (permeability increases even about 8 times). The Mössbauer Spectroscopy technique indicated that the optimized microstructure (corresponding to the maximum magnetic permeability) is free of iron nanograins and should be attributed to annealing out of free volume and a reduction of internal stresses i.e. to the relaxed amorphous phase.
