Opis:
Sn$\text{}_{0.96}$Gd$\text{}_{0.04}$Te has been studied by means of the resonant photoemission spectroscopy in the constant final states, constant initial states and energy distribution curves modes. In the constant final states spectrum of the well-known giant resonance at the 4d-4f threshold around 150 eV we were able to resolve a peak of the multiplet structure that has not previously been found. Spectra were also taken at the 4p-5d threshold around 280 eV revealing a double structure with antiresonating behaviour.

Opis:
Heavy-ion bombardment of thin ferromagnetic, polycrystalline films can induce substantial changes of their magnetic and microstructural properties. Since we first identified this effect in 50-150 nm thick Fe and Ni films irradiated with Xe-ions, we made a systematic search for the influence of various film and implantation parameters on the orientation and degree of the magnetic anisotropy and how these parameters correlate with the microstructure of the films. Several analyzing methods, such as Rutherford backscattering, magneto-optical Kerr effect, X-ray diffraction, magnetic force microscopy, $\text{}^{111}$In perturbed angular correlation, and conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy, were employed in the investigation.

This work presents development and results of a storage getter test based on the measurement of the metal concentration by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy applied for a low Cu contamination level. It was found that Cu atoms introduced into the as-grown sample by a drive-in anneal at high temperature diffuse out from the bulk to the surface within 7 days of storage at room temperature. Annealing steps at low temperature should decrease the time which Cu needs for the outdiffusion to the surface. However, the Cu atoms in samples subjected to outdiffusion annealing at 250C or 400C precipitated in the bulk. The investigation of the getter efficiency by the storage test in silicon samples containing oxygen precipitates has shown that in order to achieve a getter efficiency above 90%, the density of bulk microdefects should be higher than 6 × $10^9 cm^{-3}$.

For the production of synthetic bio-fuel the use of green biomass enables additional resources of raw material supplementary to the commonly used dry material. An electroporation assisted drying process gives the opportunity of a more efficient dewatering than only pressing and subsequent drying. Experiments showed a lower relative humidity of the pressed material after electroporation compared to pressing the raw material only. Moreover, the drying process of the electroporated material was much shorter. This is because the pores formed in the cell membranes foster a better extraction of water during pressing and enhance the diffusion process during the drying process. The paper presents exemplarily the experimental results for green rye. For the electroporation-assisted drying process the electric contact to the plant material has to be established by means of the juice inside the plants only rather than adding additional water. Hence, for experiments in larger scale, the existing electroporation device KEA-MOBIL has been equipped with a new combined electroporation reactor and press. The reactor has a plate electrode system, whose upper electrode additionally serves as a piston to apply mechanical force to extract juice for a good electrical contact between plant material and the electrodes. A two-stage Marx generator serves as a pulse source. To reduce the insulation distance to the walls of the shielding cabin the Marx generator is operated in ground symmetric configuration. The device has been designed for a batch-wise throughput of 50 kg/h. An automatic feeding device enables the alternating use of two test vessels. The device has been tested on-site on a farm with green rye and grass.

Grain boundaries play an important role in low-field magnetoresistance of La$\text{}_{0.7}$Ca$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ and La$\text{}_{0.7}$Sr$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ thin films deposited by magnetron sputtering and pulsed laser deposition on YSZ(100) and silicon substrates buffered by YSZ. Well-pronounced low-field magnetoresistance hysteresis was observed in magnetic fields applied in in-plane and out-of-plane directions. High values of local magnetoresistance sensitivity d(MR)/dH in the vicinity of the coercive field were obtained reaching up to 0.2%/Oe for La$\text{}_{0.7}$Ca$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ samples at 5 K.zapis

Opis:
The paper is devoted to the investigation of the single-electron excitation spectrum, effective exchange interaction and dielectric susceptibility of the Muller model for high-temperature superconductivity. It is shown that the interaction with the anharmonic vibration mode leads to the additional splitting of the electron bands and their narrowing. The sign of the effective exchange interaction between electrons depends on the local state of the vibration subsystem. The electron and pseudospin (lattice) contributions to the transverse dielectric susceptibility are investigated.

Structure, magnetic properties and magnetoresistance in as-quenched and annealed Co$\text{}_{x}$Cu$\text{}_{100-x}$ samples were investigated. Homogeneous metastable Co$\text{}_{x}$Cu$\text{}_{100-x}$ alloys were prepared by the single-roller technique. The maximum value of magnetoresistance is shifted to higher annealing temperatures with increasing measuring temperature. At higher measuring temperatures the magnetoresistance is not saturated in fields as high as 16 T. Susceptibility measurements showed the formation of hcp-structured Co clusters. For small cobalt concentrations there is a transition from giant magnetoresistance to the normal anisotropic magnetoresistance.

Samples of the composition RE$\text{}_{x}$Co$\text{}_{20}$Cu$\text{}_{80-x}$, RE = Sm, Gd or Dy (x = 0, 1, and 3) were produced by melt-spinning and subsequent annealing. The magnetoresistance is negative as in granular Co-Cu, but its values depend on the kind of rare earth element added and on changes in the microstructure induced by thermal annealing. An addition of 1 at.% rare earth metal to Co$\text{}_{20}$Cu$\text{}_{80}$ yields a considerable increase in the magnetoresistance ratio, whereas an addition of 3 at.% causes a decrease. E.g., by addition of 1 at.% Dy to Co$\text{}_{20}$Cu$\text{}_{80}$ and optimal thermal treatment, the value of magnetoresistance ratio measured at 10 K in a field of 5 T increases from -14% to -28%. The effect can be attributed to the presence of clusters of hexagonal Dy(Co,Cu)$\text{}_{5}$, which was ascertained from X-ray diffraction data, or other, metastable rare-earth compounds and paramagnetic rare-earth atoms in the Cu matrix.

A simple model of disorder in fractional quantum Hall systems is combined with the standard exact diagonalisation technique. Electron-density-dependent gaps at filling factors 1/3,2/3,2/5, and 3/5 measured by activated transport can then be fitted with a single reasonable value of d which has the meaning of the separation of ionized donors from the quasi-2D electron gas.

We present results of Monte Carlo and stochastic spin dynamics simulations of a magnetic nanoparticle model system based on experimentally produced samples. Thermodynamic investigations as well as spin dynamics studies show characteristic features, both resembling magnetic dipole glass behaviour. While spin dynamics studies at T=0 yield a multitude of low energy configurations, thermodynamic simulations show a clear transition between a paramagnetic and a frozen magnetic state. Moreover, we demonstrate the application of experimentally inspired demagnetization protocols to compute low energy configurations of the systems under consideration efficiently.

We present measurements of the dynamics of photoexcited excitons in an ensemble of InAs/GaAs self-assembled quantum dots using a femtosecond spectral hole burning technique. We use this technique to examine the exciton spin relaxation and the line shape of optical transitions in the dots.

The primary goal of the Antihydrogen Experiment: Gravity, Interferometry, Spectroscopy (AEGIS) collaboration is to measure for the first time precisely the gravitational acceleration of antihydrogen, H̅, a fundamental issue of contemporary physics, using a beam of antiatoms. Indeed, although indirect arguments have been raised against a different acceleration of antimatter with respect to matter, nevertheless some attempts to formulate quantum theories of gravity, or to unify gravity with the other forces, consider the possibility of a non-identical gravitational interaction between matter and antimatter. We plan to generate H̅ through a charge-exchange reaction between excited Ps and antiprotons coming from the Antiproton Decelerator facility at CERN. It offers the advantage to produce sufficiently cold antihydrogen to make feasible a measurement of gravitational acceleration with reasonable uncertainty (of the order of a few percent). Since the cross-section of the above reaction increases with n⁴, n being the principal quantum number of Ps, it is essential to generate Ps in a highly excited (Rydberg) state. This will occur by means of two laser excitations of Ps emitted from a nanoporous silica target: a first UV laser (at 205 nm) will bring Ps from the ground to the n=3 state; a second laser pulse (tunable in the range 1650-1700 nm) will further excite Ps to the Rydberg state.
