Opis:
The paper presents a new method applicable in determining the settings of PI and PID controllers for models of controlled systems given by the following transfer functions [wzór] and [wzór]. Using the capabilities of computer operations with symbolic variables, the closed system transfer function is expanded into a chain-type fraction, type V (Bultheel, 1978; Khovanskii, 1956; Halawa and Trzmielak-Stanislawska, 1986; Wall, 1973) and the second order convergent method is used as a simplified model. Denominator of this convergent M(s), is the following polynomial [wzór] with coefficients being the functions of controlled system parameters and unknown controller settings. Diagrams of step responses for systems given by second-order transfer functions are well known. Assuming the values of [wzór] and [wzór], we get a set of non-linear equations used to determine controller settings. The set of equations has been determined and resolved by means of Mathematica language which allows calculations with symbolic variables.

Opis:
Developing an effective business strategy ought to be based on the aspects of rationality, not only with the roots of present time, but also with the past and characteristics acquired in previous competitive episodes that may form the context for future ones. Thus, in analyzing the possibility of supporting decisionmaking process, one should take into account the essential properties of economic entities (objects), such as their complexity, dynamics and nonlinearity. Within this perspective, in order to model the dynamic behavior, system dynamics approach has been used in the work here reported. This technique complements the popular management approach of balance scorecard, providing the multidimensional view of an enterprise and expressing the interrelations among different processes in it.

Opis:
Applying a general theorem developed by Basar (1981), providing a set of sufficient conditions for a triple of strategies to be in hierarchical equilibrium, to games in normal (strategic) form, we study three-player Stackelberg games for linear quadratic discrete-time descriptor systems with three levels of hierarchy in decision making. We derive explicitly sufficient conditions for the existence of the memoryless hierarchical equilibrium strategies for the player (called P[sub 1]) at the top of the hierarchy, and for the player (called P[sub 2]) at the second level of the hierarchy. Since the resulting hierarchical equilibrium strategies do not depend on the memory information, P[sub 1]'s original optimal team cost remains the tight (attainable) lower bound for P[sub 1]'s cost function no matter whether the players at the lower levels of hierarchy act or not at the last two (or one) stages. Moreover, the resulting strategies have the advantages of simpler structure and higher credibility. A numerical example is solved to illustrate the validity of the results.

Opis:
Given a linear dynamical system, we investigate the linear infinite dimensional system obtained by grafting an age structure. Such systems appear essentially in population dynamics with age structure when phenomena like spatial diffusion or transport are also taken into consideration. We first show that the new system preserves some of the wellposedness properties of the initial one. Our main result asserts that if the initial system is null controllable in a time small enough then the structured system is also null controllable in a time depending on the various involved parameters.

Opis:
We present and analyze numerically a mathematical model of interactions between adaptive immune system and viral infection. The model is a bilinear system of partial integro-differential equations of Boltzmann type. It is a generalization of the recently proposed kinetic models that consider particular (namely, the cellmediated and the humoral) immune mechanisms used in the fight against viral infections. We use Matlab to solve complicated system of equations, present the results of computer simulations and explain their immunological meaning. The results show that the model can describe in a better way (in comparison with the previous kinetic models) real biological situations and is able to illustrate various methods of therapy.
