Opis:
Influence of humic acids on soil environment is still subject of scientific discussions. The aim of above studies was to investigate the relationships between selected physicochemical properties of eleven peaty-muck soils and properties of humic acids isolated from these soils. The following parameters were determined for soils: total and organic carbon, density, ash, humifi- cation, and the water absorption index. Humic acids were described by: absorbance at 280 nm, absorbance ratios at 465 and 665 nm, at 260 and 665 nm, elemental composition and atomic ratios: H/C, O/H, O/C, C/N, the degree of internal oxidation, and the content of carboxylic and phenolic groups. Statistical analyses showed that an increase in density, humification, and water absorption indices of soils caused a significant increase in the humic acid parameters: absorbance at 280 nm, the oxygen content, O/H, O/C ratios, inter- nal oxidation degree, and functional groups. Statistically signifi- cant negative correlations were found for the same parameters of soils and for the hydrogen and carbon content as well as the H/C ratio of humic acids. The relationships showed that there was a pos- sibility to express the properties of humic acids on the basis of more simple parameters measured for soil and without time-consuming isolation of humic acids.

The classification into soil fractions found in the new Polish Standard PN-R-04033 is fully comparable- with the international classifications (FAO/USDA) in question. The following diameters were adopted as the main groups of soil fractions: stones >75 mm, gravel 75-2 mm, sand 2.0-0.05 mm, silt 0.05-0.002 mm and clay <0.002 mm. On the other hand, soil fractions classification according to the Polish Soil Science Society (PTG), including so-called fine particles (<0.02 mm), is not compatible with both the new Polish Standard and the discussed international classifications. This also refers lo the classification into textural groups according to PTG. However, the classification into textural groups according lo Polish Standard is quite similar to international classifications.

Opis:
Bentonite has been recognized as a very good material for the improvement of coarse textured soils. In microplot experiment, of a sandy soil deprived of the humus layer was enriched in 1973 with waste bentonite at the rates of 0, 3, 6 and 12 kg m -2 . Until 2002, the microplots were planted with different crops and regularly enriched with mineral a nd organic fertili zers. Since 2003, the microplots were left barren. In 2009, determinations of several features of the soils (in 5-30, 30-55 and 55-80 cm layers) showed that the historical amendment of the sandy soil with bentonite (especially its highest dose) ensured significantly higher contents of water, organic C, clay, silt and a sand fraction with particle diameter <0.1 mm in 5-30 cm layer. Proportions of non-dispersible clay in the total clay of bentonite soils in the two upper soil layers were significantly lower than those of the control soil. A significant increase in the penetrometer resistance was observed in 40-58 cm layers of the control soil and the soil with 3 kg m -2 bentonite amendment, contrary to the soils with two highest bentonite doses.

Opis:
Contribution of clay mineral phase (<2 um) and organic matter to the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of two clayey soils (gleyic black earths from Gniew) was investigated. The XRD analysis showed dominance of illite and mixed laver illite/smectite as well as the presence of smectite, chlorite and trace of kaolinite in the clay fraction of studied soils. CEC of the soils ranged between 22.08-32.64 cmol(+)/kg. After removal of organic matter with 30% H2O2, CEC the above values decreased significantly. However, the CEC of organic and inorganic components is not an additive. This may be explained by the formation of organo-mineral complexes, which might lower the CEC of the soil as a whole.

Opis:
Eight sandy and three loess forest and arable soils taken from the S-E region of Poland were used in the study. The following fractions of C were determined: total organic carbon, fraction soluble in 0.5 mol NaOH dm-3 (humic acids + fulvic acids), humic acids, fulvic acids, fraction soluble in 0.5 mol H2SO4 dm-3 (hemicelluloses) and residue. Quantity and quality of organic matter depended on horizon and soil use. The highest content was shown by fraction of humus acids and residue, whereas the lowest - hemicelluloses fraction. In most soils C ratio of humic to fulvic acids exceeded 1.0. On average, in humus horizons, it was higher in arable than in forest soils and in loess as against sandy soils. In sandy soils, a slightly higher content of humus fraction and lower residue one than in loess soils was found.

Opis:
Twenty different soils were investigated. The soils varied in their acidification degree, granulometric composition and a carbon content. The investigated soils were collected from arable land, meadows and forests. Humic compounds were extracted from the soil according to the Konowowa and Bielczikova's method. Very high quantitative and qualitative differentiation\was observed. It was related to the soil type and utilisation system. Low but differentiated quantities of humic compounds extracted by 0.05 M H2SO4 were found in the samples of the analysed soils. In the extract of pyrophosphate and sodium base as well as in the extract of sodium base, there were more fulvic acids than humic acids which was reflected in the narrow Ckh:Ckf ratio, particularly in the forest soils. In addition very high proportion of non-hydrolysing carbon was observed. Its content ranged from 52 to 84%. The highest proportion of this fraction was found in the soils agriculturally utilised.

The study examines changes in texture composition and organic matter content in the soil which was washed away from ruts in the course of a 30 minute sprinkling. Water erosion was examined in ruts made by a tractor and in ruts made by a tractor pulling a trailer. Measurements were taken on a light soil in controlled conditions using sprinkling.

Opis:
The study was conducted on 14 moorsh formations taken from differently secondary transformed peat-moorsh soils. For each sample the amount of soil carbon oxidised during 2 hours with 0,005 M Kmn04 at pH = 2,5-2,6 was measured. Generally the influence of the state of secondary transformation on the amount of soil organic matter susceptibility to oxidation was noticed, especially for strongly and very strongly transformed soils. Moreover, the content of fulvic and humic acids was analysed simultaneously. The best correlation between the fulvic to humic acids ratio and organic carbon susceptibility to chemical oxidation appeared for soils of W1 >0,60
