Opis:
Conventional shot peening (SP) is cheap surface treatment widely used to enhance fatigue life of mechanical components [3,4]. Basically, it is shooting small particles (shots) on the surface of the sample. However, the process itself is so complex that a lot of companies are not able to optimally employ it due to the amount of parameters that must be controlled all at the same time. The duplex process consists in two stages of shot-peening treatment. The first one consist of shot-peening with spherical cast steel shots or cut wire shots. During the second stage the samples processed in stage one were subject to shot-peening with glass beads. In this work, RSA-501 aluminium alloy was shot peened using shots of different material and diameter and tested using a measurement of residual stresses and surface roughness. Tests and studies conducted so far on RSA-501 aluminium alloy demonstrate that bombardment by a treatment medium in the form of glass beads or shots of various shapes and diameters induces permanent plastic deformation of the surface layer. The roughness achieved after the shot-peening process was determined for each treatment medium. The largest value of Ra parameter was achieved for cut wire shots and this result is consistent with the above-mentioned theoretical knowledge. This medium is the most aggressive one to the surface being treated primarily due to the sharp edges of shots. The duplex process was successful in obtaining higher values of compressive stresses in surface layer than values achievable in conventional single-stage shot peening process.

The paper presents results of the wear tests of chain wheels made of austempered ductile iron with various content of residual austenite. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the impact of the dynamic surface treatment (shot peening) on wear properties of surface layers of the chain wheels tested that were subjected to the action of quartz abrasive. Apart from determining the value of the abrasive wear, examinations of the magnetic phase content in the microstructure were carried out and plots of hardness of the surface layer as a function of the distance from the surface and microstructure of the materials were prepared. Based on the results, the following was found: an increase in the abrasive wear and a reduction in the hardness of the surface layer of chain wheels subjected to shot peening, as well as reduction of susceptibility to negative action of the shot for cast irons with the structure of upper ausferrite.

The purpose of the present paper was to investigate the effect of shot peening on the condition of the surface layer and abrasion resistance of specimens made of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy produced by Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) process. The specimens have been produced by means of EOSINT M280 system dedicated for laser sintering of metal powders and their surfaces have been subjected to the shot peening process under three different working pressures (0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 MPa) and by means of three different media i.e. CrNi steel shot, crushed nut shells and ceramic balls. The specimens have been subjected to profilometric analysis, to SEM examinations, microhardness tests and to tribological tests on ball-on-disc stand in Ringer fluid environment. The general results of all tests indicate to favourable effect of shot peening process on the hardness and tribological performance of titanium alloy.

This paper presents the results of wear tests of shot-peened and not shot-peened cast steels used in the mining machinery industry, in particular in the construction of chain drums for armoured face conveyors. Wear tests were carried out in the conditions corresponding to the real operating conditions of armoured face conveyors during drifting work in rocks such as sandstone. The operating factors subjected to the analyses included the presence of quartz abrasive and the impact of external dynamic forces. On the basis of the wear tests as well as the microhardness and microstructure examinations performed, it has been found that the action of an additional dynamic force has a synergistic impact on the process of abrasive wear in loose quartz abrasive. It has been further found that the value of abrasive wear of chain wheels operated in the conditions of a combined action of abrasive and a dynamic force depends on whether the area of mating of wheels with the chain was shot-peened or not before the wear tests – an increase in the abrasive wear was observed for the wheels made of cast steel subjected to shot peening in the area of mating with the chain. Lower resistance to abrasive wear of the cast steels subjected to shot peening before the wear tests could result from the formation of cracks in the surface layer caused by the action of shot.

Opis:
This paper concerns issues related to the development of designs of stabilizer bars for new motor vehicle models. It involves not only the designing of a stabilizer bar with the shape required by the manufacturer, but also the preparation of bending and heat treatment processes as well as the performance of strength and fatigue tests. In the prototype development phase, the simulations techniques (FEM) may be used to assess the design. The article contains a detailed analysis of a stabilizer bar designated with the DC 218 VA symbol. Performed numerical strength and fatigue calculations showed that the developed stabilizer bar design with the desired shape did not achieve the required number of fatigue cycles. It was also proven at the test stand by testing a prototype stabilizer bar. Therefore, it was suggested to supplement the technological process with an additional shot peening operation whose main aim was to reduce the length of microcracks on the stabilizer bar’s surface. This effect was confirmed during comparative metallographic tests of not shot – peened and shot – peened stabilizer bars. After shot peening, the analysed stabilizer bar reached a fatigue strength which exceeded the limits set by the manufacturer.

The present work has the objective of studying the effect of shot peening with glass microspheres on SAE 1020 steel in its resistance to fatigue. Fatigue tests were carried out by rotary bending with load control and loading on balance in specimens with and without shot peening. A rotation speed of approximately 750 rpm (12.5 Hz) was employed in the fatigue tests. Vickers microhardness tests were performed in order to verify the surface hardening produced by shot peening with glass microspheres. Analysis of the steel surface and fatigue fractures was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Fatigue tests were performed in order to obtain S-N curves (Wöhler curves). It was observed that shot peening with glass microspheres improved the fatigue strength of the steel at high cycle.

An improvement in fatigue strength is one of the main factors enabling the use of high-durability Al-Mg-Mn-Sc-Zr alloys in functional components of mobile robots. As part of this study, a computer simulation was carried out using ANSYS LS-DYNA software that involved the hybridization of high pressure torsion (HPT) and shot peening (SP) forming processes. The numerical analysis was aimed at determining residual stresses and strains that affect the durability and stress characteristics of the analyzed Al alloy. Results of the study indicate that tensile stresses of σ = 300 MPa generated as a result of HPT are transformed into a beneficial stress of σ = 25 MPa resulting from plastic strains caused by SP surface treatment.

The paper discusses issue of selection of oscillatory shot peening parameters in terms of layout of microgrooves and surface coverage by the microgrooves. There are presented results of modeling and simulation of such method of burnishing, aimed at optimization of processing parameters. Computer program developed on the base of calculation algorithms for relevant parameters of the oscillatory shot peening should simulate conditions of real processing, creating possibilities to change of virtual machine tool parameters, comparing intentional effect of the processing with the one obtained in practice. Thanks to this, in a relatively short period of time it is possible to make selection of optimal parameters of the oscillatory shot peening with respect to surface covered by the Sr microgrooves in such type of microgrooves system.

In this paper we present a novel two stage algorithm for improving video coding efficiency. The proposed method combines video cut detection and adaptive GOP structure. At first, we have proposed a new technique of frames' comparison for the shot cut detection. The majority of existing methods compare pairs of successive frames. We compare actual frame with its motion estimated prediction. We also present adaptive threshold. The efficiency of novel technique for video cut detection was confirmed through experiment and compared to the commonly used ones in the terms of recall and precision. The next step is to situate I frames to the positions of detected cuts during the process of video encoding. Finally the proposed method is verified by simulations and the obtained results are compared with fixed GOP structures of sizes 4, 8, 12, 16, 32, 64, 128 and GOP structure with length of entire video. Proposed method achieved the gain in bit rate from 15,33% to 50,59%, while not degrading PSNR in comparison to simulated fixed GOP structures.

The paper deals with an influence of cylic load on fatigue limit of the Mg-Al-Zn-Mn alloy without or with the NiAl coating. The fatigue limit was determined for the following three types of specimens of the Mg-Al-Zn-Mn alloy: (1) fine-turned specimens; (2) fine-turned specimens with an application of the shot peening process; (3) fine-turned and shot-peened specimens with the NiAl coating deposited by the thermal spraying technique. A standard measurement of the fatigue limit was used for the analytical determination of the Wohler curves (S-N curves). The Wohler curves for the specimens (1) and (3) were in agreement with those presented in literature. The specimens (2) exhibited a lower value of the fatigue limit compared with that of the specimens (1), although the increase of the fatigue limit of the specimens (2) was expected due to the presence of the application of the shot peening process. An analysis of reasons of the decrease of the fatigue limit of the specimens (2) is presented.

Deep learning methods benefit from data sets with comprehensive coverage (e.g., ImageNet, COCO, etc.), which can be regarded as a description of the distribution of real-world data. The models trained on these datasets are considered to be able to extract general features and migrate to a domain not seen in downstream. However, in the open scene, the labeled data of the target data set are often insufficient. The depth models trained under a small amount of sample data have poor generalization ability. The identification of new categories or categories with a very small amount of sample data is still a challenging task. This paper proposes a few-shot fine-grained image recognition method. Feature maps are extracted by a CNN module with an embedded attention network to emphasize the discriminative features. A channel-based feature expression is applied to the base class and novel class followed by an improved cosine similarity-based measurement method to get the similarity score to realize the classification. Experiments are performed on main few-shot benchmark datasets to verify the efficiency and generality of our model, such as Stanford Dogs, CUB-200, and so on. The experimental results show that our method has more advanced performance on fine-grained datasets.
