In the paper a cost-effective input block of the SDR receiver for 0.9 - 2.4GHz frequency band built of capacitivetuned selective amplifier and broadband Vivaldi antenna is presented. The applied selective amplifier consists of three identical sections of tunable filters and two stages of monolithic broadband amplifiers. The single filter section proposed by the authors, due to its ability to absorb parasitic inductances of varicap diodes, simplifies usage of encapsulated varicap diodes in design of tunable in broad band selective filters dedicated to input stages of the receivers. Moreover, proposed filter section has small variation of in-band insertion loss in comparison to varicap-tuned filters built of coupled transmission lines which are commonly applied in input blocks of the microwave receivers. The described selective amplifier could be easily integrated on a single substrate with the Vivaldi antenna which is a cost effective way of fabrication of the tunable in broad band input block of a receiver that has desired gain, selectivity and directivity of the antenna.

Military wireless tactical systems has faced the problem of limited spectrum resources. This is a reason why Cognitive Radio (CR) is one of the most popular topic studied by research institutes in the field of mobile telecommunications. CR technology is based on cognitive cycle, used for making decisions based on observation and orientation. To support this activity, radios need also information on current position, electromagnetic situation, legal issues etc. These functions can be provided by Radio Environment Map (REM) database. It enables more flexible spectrum utilization and coexistence of Primary and Secondary Users (PUs, SUs) without harmful interferences. This paper presents a proposal of REM database structure and graphical user interface (GUI). It also describes GUI implementation in MATLAB and data structure. Database was implemented using the database engine - SQLite. The proposed REM database is a part of cognitive radio network simulator developed in the Institute of Telecommunications.

In this paper we present results of research on multichannel receiver using Software Defined Radio technology. This receiver is a part of the experimental FM based passive radar being designed. The hardware platform of the receiver consists of the Universal Software Defined Radio Peripheral devices. In the paper we propose modifications of the USRP's FPGA configuration and GNU Radio code. These modifications allow for developing six/nine synchronous input channel receiver based on two/tree USRPs respectively. Issues of synchronization of separate USRP devices by assuring synchronous sampling were presented. We also propose the solution of the problem of the alignment of the data streams being sent from USRP devices via USB to the PC host.

Opis:
Protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information is very important in any telecommunications system. Information protection requires use of necessary physical, personal, information and communication technologies and above all – electromagnetic and cryptographic security measures. Equipment and tools for cryptographic protection should be examined and assessed in terms of resistance to known threats. Additional requirements are put on information protection for radio communication, especially military, where radio transmission is characterized by uncertainty of establishing and maintaining connections, bit rates are relatively low, often without full duplex. All this has an impact on the methods of cryptographic synchronization and implementation of cryptographic functions. A different approach to information protection is required by classic narrowband radio communications, a different one in time-division multi-access modes, and another one in broadband packet data transmission. Systems designed for information protection in radio communications implement appropriate operating modes of operation for cryptographic algorithms and protocols. Latest threats from quantum computers pose new challenges, especially in systems using public-key cryptography, because there are algorithms that can be used to attack these schemes with polynomial complexity.

The aim of this paper is the methodology of measurements executed in a radio link for the realization of radiolocation services in radiocommunication networks, particularly in cellular networks. The main results of the measurements obtained in the physical layer of the universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) are introduced. A new method for the utilization of the multipath propagation phenomenon to improve the estimation of the distance between the mobile station (MS) and the base station (BS) is outlined. This method significantly increases the quality of location services in systems which use a radio interface with direct sequence code division multiple access (DS CDMA).

Opis:
To obtain optimal performance, estimation of radio refractivity is essential in planning and design of radio links/systems. The dependence of radio refractivity on different climatic parameters such as temperature, pressure, humidity and scale height is studied. The method proposed by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is used in calculation of tropospheric radio refractivity. The main objective of this work is to formulate a mathematical equation/expression which can be used to predict/estimate the value of radio refractivity for an arbitrary day of any year, with a low error of estimation, in a local environment. Sensitivity of radio refractivity to temperature, pressure and humidity has been evaluated for a period of 5 years from 2008 to 2012, in a particular area under consideration. The results presented for tropospheric radio refractivity take into consideration both the location height and scale height parameters. The results are analysed in terms of statistical measures such as the moving averages, probability density function, monthly mean values, and their corresponding standard deviations. Finally, a mathematical model is formulated to calculate the radio refractivity for any day of a whole year. Reliability of error analysis in respect to accuracy is also shown. It was implemented in the industrial enterprise.

Velocity is one of the main navigation parameters of moving objects. However some systems of position estimation using radio wave measurements cannot provide velocity data due to limitation of their performance. In this paper a velocity measurement method for the DS-CDMA radio navigation system is proposed, which does not require full synchronization of reference stations carrier frequencies. The article presents basics of FDOA (frequency difference of arrival) velocity measurements together with application of this method to an experimental radio navigation system called AEGIR and with some suggestions about the possibility to implement such FDOA measurements in other kinds of asynchronous DS-CDMA radio networks. The main part of this paper present results of performance evaluation of the proposed method, based on laboratory measurements.

This paper presents analysis of object location accuracy of a mobile device on the basis of the iBeacon technology. The research starts with radio signal strength indicator analysis along the corridor in order to create a path loss model for iBeacon. Two cases are taken into account: line of sight and non-line of sight for model creation. For both cases two tests: Chi-square, Shapiro-Wilk have been performed. It has also been checked if the HCI (Host Controller Interface) is a source with a memory. Acquired data have been filtered with different type of filters, e.g. median, moving average and then compared. Next, the authors evaluated the indoor positioning trilateration algorithms with the use of created model for exemplary hall. The RSSI map (radiomap) was created and the logarithm propagation model was designed. The logarithmic model estimated distance with average error 1.09m for 1 – 9m and 1.75m for 1-20m and after trilateration, the positions with average error 2.45m was achieved. A statistical analysis for acquiring data led to the final conclusion which enhanced knowledge about positioning based on the popular iBeacon technology.

This paper presents a baseband model and an enhanced implementation of the wireless full duplex analog method introduced by [1].Unlike usual methods based on hardware and software self- interference cancelation, the proposed design relies on FSK modulation. The principle is when the transmitter of a local end is sending data by modulating the carrier with the appropriate frequency deviation, its own receiver is checking if the remote transmitter is using the opposite deviation. Instead of architectures often used by both non-coherent and coherent receivers that require one filter (matched filter for coherent detection) for each frequency deviation, our design uses one mixer and one single integrator-decimator filter. We test our design using Universal Software Radio Peripheral as radio frequency front end and computer that implements the signal processing methods under free and open source software. We validate our solution experimentally and we show that in-band full duplex is feasible and synthesizable for wireless communications.

This paper considers a fading cognitive multiple access channel (CMAC), where multiple secondary users (SUs), who share the spectrum with a primary user (PU), transmit to a cognitive base station (CBS). A power station is assumed to harvest energy from the nature and then provide power to the SUs. We investigate the power allocation problems for such a CMAC to maximize the SU sum rate under the interference power constraint, the sum transmit power constraint and the peak transmit power constraint of each individual SU. In particular, two scenarios are considered: with successive interference cancellation (SIC) and without SIC. For the first scenario, the optimal power allocation algorithm is derived. For the second scenario, a heuristic algorithm is proposed. We show that the proposed algorithm with SIC outperforms the algorithm without SIC in terms of the SU sum rate, while the algorithm without SIC outperforms the algorithm with SIC in terms of the number of admitted SUs for a high sum transmit power limit and a low peak transmit power limit of each individual SU.
