Opis:
Application of retractable enclosures enables to lengthen operation periods for outdoor swimming pools operated in the moderate climate zone. Enclosures allow to diminish energy losses from water in the pool to the environment. Thermal calculations for pools with retractable enclosures are difficult to carry out because of a number of required parameters which can only be estimated. One of them is the transmission of solar radiation through the enclosure. The present paper presents the method of estimation of this parameter for swimming pool enclosures made of polycarbonate panels that have multichannels structure. In order to calculate transmission, the methodology considering the multiples of solar reflection inside the enclosure and their absorption by polycarbonate has been elaborated. Calculation results for transmission of the enclosure were verified experimentally. Analysis of results show that the transmission depends strongly on the enclosure’s construction and on the direction of solar radiation on the enclosure. Mean transmission values of enclosure under research were determined both from calculations and experiment are equal to about 0.69 and 0.64, respectively. However, experimentally determined mean values of total transmission by parallel and perpendicular solar directions in relation to channel axes are equal to about 0.69 and 0.60, respectively.

Opis:
Experimental investigation of heat transfer during pool boiling of two nanofluids, i.e. water-Al203 and water-Cu has been carried out. Nanoparticles were tested at the concentration of 0.01%, 0.1%, and 1% by weight. The horizontal smooth stainless steel tubes having 10 mm OD and 0.6 mm wall thickness formed the test heater. The experiments have been performed to establish the influence of nanofluids concentration on heat transfer characteristics during boiling at different absolute operating pressure values, i.e. 200 kPa, ca. 100 kPa (atmospheric pressure) and 10 kPa. It was established that independent of nanoparticle materials (A1203 and Cu) and their concentration, an increase of operating pressure enhances heat transfer. Generally, independent of operating pressure, sub- and atmospheric pressure, and overpressure, an increase of nanoparticle concentration caused heat transfer augmentation.

Information society is characterized by self-organization and distributed information processing abilities. At the same time there is an increase in demand for participation in local decision processes. To meet these new expectations the authors present new, alternative framework for management of cities, in which local authorities are moderators, consultants and managers, whereas all stakeholders participate in decision making within purposely created networks and groups. In the article authors also indicate selected city infrastructure elements, which ownership and management could be transferred into “city cloud”.

Opis:
The article describes the study of heat transfer during pool boiling on minifins surface coated with nanostructure. This is a molecular level technology used in engineering or mechanical factory. A surface with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is highly effective in reducing the superheat incipience and enhancing both the heat flux and heat transfer coefficient. The paper focuses on the comparison of the surfaces, on which pool boiling heat transfer occurs, i.e., on minifins coated with carbon nanotubes (MF+N) with surfaces formed by sintering the woven copper wire mesh to the minifins tips (MF+M) and with plain minifins surface (MF). The experiments were carried out for two boiling fluids: water and ethyl alcohol. The purpose of the presented study was to find out which of those tested surfaces and fluids could be the best alternative for use in the cooling of electronic devices and which surfaces could be used as thermosyphon or heat pipe evaporator.

Opis:
The ethanol fire hazards will become more frequent due to the new established targets for the consumption of renewable energy sources. With this in mind, this paper aims to widen the current knowledge on CFD modelling of such a fire. As previous works rely heavily on the data of small pool fire diameters (below 1 m), this research deals with ethanol pool fire on a one-meter test tray, using our own experimental data. A mathematical model was developed and solved using a commercial CFD package (ANSYS Fluent). A new hybrid RANS-LES (SBES) model was employed to calculate turbulent stresses. Generally, the simulation results showed a good fit with the experimental results for flame temperatures at different elevations. In particular, a minor discrepancy was only observed for the top thermocouple (1.9 m above the tray). The flame heights computed with the CFD model were on average higher than the experimental one. Good agreement was observed for the radiative fraction and the axial temperature profile on the plume centreline. The latter showed an almost perfect fit between the temperature profiles obtained from CFD simulations and those calculated from the plume law for temperature.

Opis:
This text can be defined as an attempt to look at the question of the common good through sociological glasses. The author suggests that many of the issues subsumed under  the term “the common good” have already been elucidated and described in detail on the basis of classical and contemporary sociology. If it is assumed that the common good can be understood triply, as (1) a postulate of the social good, (2) materially, as an object of collective ownership, and (3) as an effect of the individual’s life in society, then it must be admitted that, at least in the third case, reference to the collected achievements of sociology is necessary in order to describe the common good properly.

Opis:
The paper deals with pool boiling of water-Al2O3 and water-Cu nanofluids on rough and porous coated horizontal tubes. Commercially available stainless steel tubes having 10 mm outside diameter and 0.6 mm wall thickness were used to fabricate the test heater. The tube surface was roughed with emery paper 360 or polished with abrasive compound. Aluminium porous coatings of 0.15 mm thick with porosity of about 40% were produced by plasma spraying. The experiments were conducted under different absolute operating pressures, i.e., 200, 100, and 10 kPa. Nanoparticles were tested at the concentration of 0.01, 0.1, and 1% by weight. Ultrasonic vibration was used in order to stabilize the dispersion of the nanoparticles. It was observed that independent of operating pressure and roughness of the stainless steel tubes addition of even small amount of nanoparticles augments heat transfer in comparison to boiling of distilled water. Contrary to rough tubes boiling heat transfer coefficient of tested nanofluids on porous coated tubes was lower compared to that for distilled water while boiling on porous coated tubes. A correlation equation for prediction of the average heat transfer coefficient during boiling of nanofluids on smooth, rough and porous coated tubes is proposed. The correlation includes all tested variables in dimensionless form and is valid for low heat flux, i.e., below 100 kW/m2.

Opis:
Artykuł analizuje ciągłość i zmianę reguł instytucjonalnych organizujących gospodarowanie wspólnymi leśnymi zasobami społeczności lokalnej Jurgowa, na polskim Spiszu. W wyniku zmiany część zasobów przyrodniczych wykorzystywanych zgodnie z tradycją została przekształcona w ośrodek sportów zimowych. Takie innowacyjne przedsięwzięcie wymagało nowych sposobów zbiorowego działania. Ważną rolę odegrali członkowie wspólnoty występujący w charakterze „okazjonalnych przywódców” i „instytucjonalnych przedsiębiorców”.
The article includes analysis of continuity and change of institutional rules applicable to governing the common-pool forest resources in possession of local community of Jurgów village, located within Polish Spisz. As a result of occurring change, traditionally exploited part of environmental resources was repositioned into modern winter sports resort. Such innovative adaptation required, and was challenged, by new collective action that was introduced by local society as common approach. It is such roles of local society members’ representatives, described as ‘occasional leaders’ and ‘institutional entrepreneurs’, that were taking major part in this complex process of transformation. Also noteworthy is that this task was to certain extent simplified by their traditionally rooted within local community resolving of social dilemmas skills, comparably high level of social capital, trust gained over the years among community members and cultural resources of Spisz area. The article directs readers attention towards need of Polish research on common pool resources, indicating that aspects of institutional-organizational structure, as well as, social-cultural diversity is particularly important in face of such changes taking place. This text was also result of qualitative research inspired by new institutionalism theories, in particular ‘Institutional Analysis and Development”.
