The paper discusses a method of auxiliary controlled models and the application of this method to solving some problems of identification and robust control for differential equations. The objects that the method is suggested to be used are two systems of nonlinear differential equations describing some ecological and economic processes. Two solving algorithms, which are stable with respect to informational noises and computational errors, are presented. The algorithms are tested by model examples.

Recently, a variety of digital watermarking schemes have been developed for copyright protection of digital images. In robust watermarking, which is used in copyright protection, transform-based algorithms are used to ensure resilience of the watermark to common signal processing attacks. The most frequently used watermarking algorithms for additive watermark embedding involve DCT, DFT, SVD and DWT domains. In this article we verify which domain is optimal for robust, the additive watermark embedding scheme. We demonstrate that in additive watermark embedding the embedding domain plays more important role than the embedding formula.

In the recent years, several digital watermarking applications have been developed for copyright protection of digital images. In this article we have tested how they perform in practical applications. We have identified the most common operations performed by professional photographers and web developers, and tested the robustness of watermarks embedded using the applications for copyright watermarking. Our aim was to prove that commercially available software does not meet the requirements of photography and web industry. We have also identified areas in which the software should be improved in order to meet current and future requirements of the industry.

As a result of the development of modern vehicles, even higher accuracy standards are demanded. As known, Inertial Navigation Systems have an intrinsic increasing error which is the main reason of using integrating navigation systems, where some other sources of measurements are utilized, such as barometric altimeter due to its high accuracy in short times of interval. Using a Robust Kalman Filter (RKF), error measurements are absorbed when a Fault Tolerant Altimeter is implemented. During simulations, in order to test the Nonlinear RKF algorithm, two kind of measurement malfunction scenarios have been taken into consideration; continuous bias and measurement noise increment. Under the light of the results, some recommendations are proposed when integrated altimeters are used.

The unique characteristic of a repetitive processes is a series of sweeps, termed passes, through a set of dynamics defined over a finite duration. On each pass an output, termed the pass profile is produced which acts as on forcing function, and hence contributes to, the dynamics of the next pass profile. This leads to the possibility that the output, i.e. the sequence of pass profiles, will contain oscillations that increase in amplitude in the pass-to-pass direction. Such behavior cannot be controlled by application of standard linear systems control laws and instead they must be treated as two-dimensional (2D) systems where information propagation in two independent directions, termed passto-pass and along the pass respectively, is the defining feature. Physical examples of such processes include long-wall coal cutting and metal rolling. In this paper, stability analysis and control law design algorithms are developed for discrete linear repetitive processes where a plane, or rectangle, of information is propagated in the pass-to-pass direction. The possible use of such a model in the control of distributed parameter systems has been investigated in previous work and this paper considers an extension to allow for uncertainty in the model description.

In the paper we present robust estimation methods based on bounded innovation propagation filters and quantile regression, applied to measure Value at Risk. To illustrate advantage connected with the robust methods, we compare VaR forecasts of several group of instruments in the period of high uncertainty on the financial markets with the ones modelled using traditional quasi-likelihood estimation. For comparative purpose we use three groups of tests i.e. based on Bernoulli trial models, on decision making aspect, and on the expected shortfall.

The paper presents a formal description of the resource allocation problem for resource-constrained project scheduling. A schedule can be executed by various resource flow networks which may differ in terms of resistance to disruptions occurring during project execution. The authors define such criteria of evaluating a resource flow network which can be more useful than robustness metrics used so far in the research. The authors discuss the importance of robust scheduling for execution projects and propose metrics for resource allocation robustness which take into consideration the stability of the final schedule. Those metrics make it possible to carry out a more precise analysis concerning the properties of the resource flow network in terms of its robustness to disruptions in comparison with a well known flexibility indicator, flex.

This paper presents the Necessary-preference-enhanced Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimizer (NEMO), which combines an evolutionary multiobjective optimization with robust ordinal regression within an interactive procedure. In the course of NEMO, the decision maker is asked to express preferences by simply comparing some pairs of solutions in the current population. The whole set of additive value functions compatible with this preference information is used within a properly modified version of the evolutionary multiobjective optimization technique NSGA-II in order to focus the search towards solutions satisfying the preferences of the decision maker. This allows to speed up convergence to the most preferred region of the Pareto-front.

In this article conclusions from nearly 10 years of collaboration with Polish and German Engineer-to-Order (ETO) small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from mechanical sector was presented. Research objective was to highlight common organizational problems they are dealing with, which prevent them from transition to Mass Customizers. As a result, a concept of 5 foundations for robust process design was proposed: procedures, product selection, machining philosophy, planning and storage, cross-functional teams. More practical solutions from this field have to be published to fill the research gap.

Linear regression analysis has become a fundamental tool in experimental sciences. We propose a new method for parameter estimation in linear models. The 'Generalized Ordered Linear Regression with Regularization' (GOLRR) uses various loss functions (including the o-insensitive ones), ordered weighted averaging of the residuals, and regularization. The algorithm consists in solving a sequence of weighted quadratic minimization problems where the weights used for the next iteration depend not only on the values but also on the order of the model residuals obtained for the current iteration. Such regression problem may be transformed into the iterative reweighted least squares scenario. The conjugate gradient algorithm is used to minimize the proposed criterion function. Finally, numerical examples are given to demonstrate the validity of the method proposed.

In the paper issues related to the design of a robust adaptive fuzzy estimator for a drive system with a flexible joint is presented. The proposed estimator ensures variable Kalman gain (based on the Mahalanobis distance) as well as the estimation of the system parameters (based on the fuzzy system). The obtained value of the time constant of the load machine is used to change the values in the system state matrix and to retune the parameters of the state controller. The proposed control structure (fuzzy Kalman filter and adaptive state controller) is investigated in simulation and experimental tests.

The paper is oriented to EEG signal analysis, which is focused to quasi-stationarity hypothesis that the statistical properties of the channel signal fluctuate in time. Robust linear predictor is used for short segments of EEG as low-pass filter and the difference between the raw EEG and filter output was subject of statistical testing. Novelty is in the fluctuation measurement which enables to classify the Alzheimer's disease patients against controls.

The paper deals with the problem of robust predictive fault-tolerant control for nonlinear discrete-time systems described by the Takagi-Sugeno models. The proposed approach is based on a triple stage procedure, i.e. it starts from fault estimation while the fault is compensated with a robust controller. The robust controller is designed without taking into account the input constraints related with the actuator saturation that may change due to its faulty behaviour. Thus, to check the compensation feasibility, the robust invariant set is developed, which takes into account the input constraints. If the current state does not belong to the robust invariant set, then suitable predictive control actions are performed in order to enhance the invariant set. This appealing phenomenon makes it possible to enlarge the domain of attraction, which makes the proposed approach an efficient solution for the fault-tolerant control. The final part of the paper shows an illustrative example regarding the application of the proposed approach to the twin-rotor system.

An off-line methodology was proposed for enhancing the robustness of an initial Generalized Predictive Control (GPC) by convex optimization of the Youla parameter. However, this procedure of robustification is restricted with the case of the systems affected only by unstructured uncertainties. This paper proposes an extension of this method to the systems subjected to both unstructured and structured polytopic uncertainties. The main idea consists in adding supplementary constraints to the optimization problem which validates the Lipatov stability condition at each vertex of the polytope. These polytopic uncertainties impose a set of non convex quadratic constraints. The globally optimal solution is found by means of the GloptiPoly3 software. Therefore, this robustification provides stability robustness towards unstructured uncertainties for the nominal system, while guaranteeing stability properties over a specified polytopic domain of uncertainties. Finally, an illustrative example is given.
