Paper presents the results of quality assessment of speech and music signals transmitted via DAB+ system with the use of Single Frequency Network (SFN). The musical signals were evaluated in overall quality domain. The subjective research was provided with the use of Absolute Category Rating procedure according to the ITU recommendation and the results have been presented as the MOS values for various bit rates. The speech signals were additionally examined with PESQ method. The results have shown that the assumed quality of 4 MOS, for this kind of broadcasting could be achieved at 48 kb/s for speech and 64 kb/s for music. This fact was confirmed by both: subjective and objective research. The comparison between the results obtained for SFN broadcasting with three emitters with single-emitter broadcast was presented.

Opis:
In the age of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Web and the Internet have changed significantly the way applications are developed, deployed and used. One of recent trends is modern design of web-applications based on SOA. This process is based on the composition of existing web services into a single scenario from the point of view of a particular user or client. This allows IT companies to shorten the producttime to market process. On the other hand, it raises questions about the quality of the application, trade-offs between quality factors and attributes and measurements of these. Services are usually hosted and executed in an environment managed by its provider that assures the quality attributes such as availability or throughput. Therefore, in this paper an attempt has been made to perform quality measurements towards the creation of efficient, dependable and user-oriented Web applications. First, the process of designing service-based applications is described. Next, metrics for subsequent measurements of efficiency, dependability and usability of distributed applications are presented. These metrics will assess the efforts and trade-offs in a Web-based application development. As examples, we describe a pair of multimedia applications which we have developed in our department and executed in a cluster-based environment. One of them runs in the BeesyCluster middleware and the second one in the Kaskada platform. For these applications we present results of measurements and conclude about relations between quality attributes in the presented application development model. This knowledge can be used to reason about such relations for new similar applications and be used in rapid and quality development of the latter.

Opis:
In October 2018, local digital radio was launched to cover the agglomeration of Wroclaw. The implementation of this undertaking required many tests, including qualitative ones, that refer to both music and speech. This paper presents the results of subjective tests based on the evaluation of speech quality of signals recorded at various points in Wroclaw. Measurements were carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the International Telecommunication Union as well as in ordinary acoustic conditions in listeners’ flats. The rating was made for male and female voices. The most important conclusion is that for speech signal assessment in meaning of the quality the test conditions do not influence the obtained results. The other fact confirmed in the experiment was that the receiving place of DAB+ signal in the Single-Frequency Network also does not affect the perceived voice quality.

Broadcasting services seek to optimize their use of bandwidth in order to maximize user’s quality of experience. They aim to transmit high-quality digital speech and music signals at the lowest bitrate. They intend to offer the best quality under available conditions. Due to bandwidth limitations, audio quality is in conflict with the number of transmitted radio programs. This paper analyzes whether the quality of real-time digital DAB+ broadcasted radio programs surpasses the quality offered by analog FM radio. We also perform a subjective and objective quality assessment comparative study of the HE-AAC v2 audio codec used in DAB+. The subjective studies were carried out using the MOS test methodology, whereas the objective tests were realized using the ViSQOLAudio metric. These studies were followed by a questionnaire concerning the migration from analog to digital radio domain.

Opis:
Varistors are commonly used elements which protect power supply networks against high-voltage surges or lightning. Therefore, quality and endurance of these elements is important to avoid losses when an expensive laboratory equipment would not be protected from random overvoltages. Additionally, excessive leakage currents generate serious costs due to high energy consumption. The paper presents shortly properties of varistors that comprized different ZnO grain types and can have various quality which changes continuously during exploitation (due to exposition to overheating and overvoltage pulses). Therefore, it is important to monitor varistors during their ageing (causing changes within their microstructures). A few methods of varistor property diagnosis were considered and compared with the methods currently applied in laboratory or industry applications. A new measurement (diagnostic) system that can monitor varistors during ageing and can be widely applied in power networks is presented. The proposed system fulfills requirements of the industrial customers which demand various methods for power line protection. The proposed system can be simply developed into a more advanced wireless diagnostic system of long power supply lines.

This study investigates (1) the effect of quality information on quality performance through process control and (2) the moderating role of shop floor leadership on the relationship between quality information and quality performance in the context of manufacturing plants on a global basis. The moderated mediation analysis with a bootstrapping approach was employed to analyse data for hypotheses testing. The data is from the fourth-round dataset of the High- Performance Manufacturing Project, collected from manufacturing plants worldwide. The results indicate that (1) quality information is positively associated with quality performance through process control, and (2) shop floor leadership (i.e., supervisory interaction facilitation) positively moderates the indirect effect of quality information on quality performance; that is, the shop floor leadership practice strengthens the effect of quality information on quality performance through process control. This study also has a practical implication for top managers who should consider the vital role of leadership practices adopted by shop floor supervisors in implementing total quality management practices and should raise awareness that leadership practices are not only for the ‘C-suite’ but also for shop floor supervisors.

In literature, oriented filters are used for low-level vision tasks. In this paper, we propose use of steerable Gaussian filter in image quality assessment. Human visual system is more sensitive to multidirectional edges present in natural images. The most degradation in image quality is caused due to its edges. In this work, an edge based metric termed as steerable Gaussian filtering (SGF) quality index is proposed as objective measure for image quality assessment. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated over multiple databases. The experimental result shows that proposed method is more reliable and outperform the conventional image quality assessment method.

The analysis of available literature indicates that tests of products sound quality, which would not involve participation of groups of listeners supposed to evaluate the sounds emitted by these products, are neither carried out in Poland, nor in the world. That results in the fact that the products sound quality is determined on the basis of psychoacoustic information and comprises both objective and subjective factors of sound perception. With reference to those factors and to different life cycles of the machine, an original definition of the “sound quality of the machine” has been developed and presented in this article. The global index of the acoustic quality of the machine, accounting for the relations between the noise level at the workstation and the selected parameters characterising both the machine’s sound activity and the working environment, was adopted as the measure of the sound quality of the machine. The experiments that followed confirmed the appropriateness of the assessment made with the use of the global index of acoustic quality.

Opis:
Traditional statistical process control approaches are less effective in dealing with multivariate and autocorrelated processes. With the continual increase in process complexity, this inefficiency is becoming more apparent. A special type of multivariate and autocorrelated process is a process occurring within a heterogeneous production environment (a variety of types of machines, pots, etc. used for the same task). This makes the quality control of such processes more difficult. The approach presented in the paper utilizes time series fitting, cluster analysis and association mining in relation to a single data mining model for the analysis of complex multivariate autocorrelated processes. The aim is to divide the production cells (machines, pots, etc.) into groups exhibiting similar behaviors. This can then be used for more effective quality control of the entire process and afterwards to analyze the reasons for this behavior. This paper includes someof the results obtained from applying the model to an actual multivariate high autocorrelated process, the production of primary aluminum using the Hall-Heroult electrolysis process. The Hall-Heroult electrolysis process is a continual process that is ongoing in several pots simultaneously. The average plant operates 300 pots. Therefore, the quality control of such a complex process faces many issues concerning monitoring and problem diagnosis. The paper describes a method for dividing the pots into control groups exhibiting similar behaviors, which can then be used in the planning phase of the quality control analysis and to make improvements within these groups and thereby within the whole process.

Rivers are considered as one of the main resources of water supply for various applications such as agricultural, drinking and industrial purposes. Also, these resources are used as a place for discharge of sewages, industrial wastewater and agricultural drainage. Regarding the fact that each river has a certain capacity for acceptance of pollutants, nowadays qualitative and environmental investigations of these resources are proposed. In this study, qualitative investigation of the Talar river was done according to Oregon Water Quality Index (OWQI), National Sanitation Foundation Water Quality Index (NSFWQI) and Wilcox indicators during 2011–2012 years at upstream, midstream and downstream of the river in two periods of wet and dry seasons. According to the results of OWQI, all of the values at 3 stations and both periods are placed at very bad quality category and the water is not acceptable for drinking purposes. According to NSFWQI, the best condition was related to the upstream station at wet season period (58, medium quality) and the worst condition was related to the downstream in wet season period (46, very bad quality). Also the results of Wilcox showed that in both periods of wet season and dry season, the water quality is getting better from upstream station to the downstream station, and according to the index classification, the downstream water quality has shown good quality and it is suitable for agriculture.

Opis:
In most cases, customers evaluate a product based on the first impression, which is propagated by the product itself. These impressions are often subjectively engraved in the products, difficult to describe thus making them difficult to handle. Technical specifications on the other hand are less considered at first sight. In the case of leisure products such as Motorbikes (motorcycles), subjective factors are considerably intensified. Thus, such products are suitable to describe as “difficult-to-quantify” characteristics. Subjective and difficult to quantify features for products such as motorcycles could be; the design, the dynamics (vitality) as well as the price (value) impression. Thus, amid a DFG research project, a method will have to be developed that allows the scaling of difficult to quantify characteristics in other to support a requirement-orientated product development. For this purpose, four different levels were developed to contain scaling based on usage. To support the scaling development, methods such as the AHP or the Multivariate Analysis Method can be used. In the following analysis it will be shown how perception-defining characteristics for motorcycles can be derived from design analyses. The first step is the design analyses conducted with the help of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) scale based on Thomas L. Saaty. The advantage of this approach is a direct comparison of all alternatives to themselves. If, for example, five motorcycles are compared with regards to design, then a benchmark for good design implicitly arises. These scales build up dynamically depending on the analyzed alternatives. Based on the previous example, the more alternatives are used the more valid the scale. The systematic arrangement of the perception-defining characteristics in product development can be a deciding factor for a better product design and its related product perception. Special gender specific perception differences for motorcycles will be evaluated in this paper. Thus, it is shown that there are specific motorcycle models that appeal to women while other specific models are preferred by men. In this case, perception-defining characteristics can be derived from a detail analysis of a preliminary assessment which can aid the description of female and male preferences for motorcycles. In this paper a method to concatenate the perception-defining characteristics and products will be presented. Above all, these characteristics should be considered in the product planning phase. This approach offers producers the possibility, through identification of important perception-defining characteristics, to differentiate themselves from competitors because important product characteristics are deigned to relate to the various target groups.
