Opis:
The morphology of interlayars and the coating of Fe-Al phase detonation sprayed (DGS) on the substrate of 045 steel was analysed in the work. The Ni(Al) layer, first from the substrate side consisted of Ni with inclusions of Al oxide. The second deposited layer was Ni(Cr), which contained lamellas of Cr in the Ni matrix. The phases present in the transition layers and in the coating were identified with SEM, and EDX methods (linear and point changes of chemical composition). The identification was confirmed with the X-ray technique and TEM microstructure analysis. It was established that Al oxides and AlNiO phases appeared in the DGS process after partial melting and oxidation of Al particles, while in the not melted part of grains small grain morphology was observed. Using the X-ray method, the FeAl2O4, Fe3Al and FeAl phases were identified in the coating, the Cr and Cr2Ni3 phase in the Ni(Cr) interlayer as well as pure nickel and the NiAl phase in the Ni(Al) interlayer. The occurrence of brittle phases of Al oxide and AlNiO phases near the boundaries of layers might result in the increase of tendency to delamination. Hence the reduction of the Al content seems advantageous from the point of view of mechanical properties of the joint.
W pracy poddano analizie metodą skaningowej - SEM i transmisyjnej- TEM mikroskopii elektronowej, budowę warstw pośrednich i powłokę faz typu Fe-Al natryskiwanych detonacyjnie (DGS) na podłoże stali 045. W powłoce zidentyfikowano metodą X-ray fazy: FeAl2O4, Fe3Al oraz FeAl, w warstwie pośredniej Ni(Cr) - chrom i fazę Cr2Ni3w osnowie niklu, zaś w warstwie Ni(Al) czysty nikiel i fazę NiAl. Występowanie faz tlenku glinu i faz AlNiO w pobliżu granic warstw pośrednich powodować może zwiększenie tendencji do delaminacji. Korzystnym byłoby zatem obniżenie ilości aluminium.

Opis:
Gaseous nitriding of binary Ni-Cr solid-solution alloys was studied at 1125ºC over the range 1 to 6000 bar of N2-pressure. At the specified temperature the nitriding response of the Ni-Cr alloys depends on the Cr-content in the initial alloy and activity (fugacity) of nitrogen at the gas/metal interface. Transition from cubic δ-CrN to hexagonal β-Cr2N precipitation occurs within the reaction zone after nitrogenization at 1125ºC under nitrogen pressure 100-6000 bar when chromium content in the initial alloy is 28 at. % or higher. It was found that a ternary phase, π (Cr12.8Ni7.2N4.0) is formed inside the Ni32Cr alloy upon cooling in nitrogen after nitriding at 1125ºC and 1 bar of N2. Experimental evidence is presented that π-phase is involved in peritectoid relations with β-Cr2N and γ-(Ni-Cr) solid solution. It was also demonstrated that nitriding behaviour of the Ni-Cr alloy can be rationalized using pertinent phase diagram information, but, in some cases, effect of mechanical stresses induced upon the internal precipitation can vitiate this prediction.

Opis:
This study investigated the effect of strut thickness on the room and high temperature compressive properties of block-type Ni-Cr-Al powder porous metals with ~3000 μm pore size manufactured using a new powder process. Two block-type Ni-Cr-Al porous metals with different strut thicknesses were manufactured. The strut thicknesses of two block foams were 340 μm (A) and 383 μm (B), respectively. Room temperature, 500°C, 650°C and 800°C compressive tests were performed. The compressive results identified typical elastic, plateau and densification regions of foam material in all temperature conditions. Regardless of the strut thickness, compressive strength (maximum peak stress) decreased as deformation temperature increased. In all deformation temperature ranges, the compressive strength measured higher in the porous metal with greater strut thickness (B). The high temperature deformation behavior of powder porous metal was confirmed to be affected by the structural factor and microstructural factor of the porous metal. With the findings described above, this study also discussed the high temperature deformation mechanism of the Ni-Cr-Al metal foam based on fracture surfaces after the high temperature compressions.

Creep-resistant parts of heat treatment furnaces are in most cases made from high-alloyed chromium-nickel and nickel-chromium iron alloys, both cast and wrought. This paper presents the types of casting alloys used for this particular purpose, since the majority of furnace components are made by the casting process. Standards were cited which give symbols of alloy grades used in technical specifications by the domestic industry. It has been indicated that castings made currently are based on a wider spectrum of the creep-resistant alloy grades than the number of alloys covered by the standards. Alloy grades recommended by the technical literature for individual parts of the furnace equipment were given. The recommendations reflect both the type of the technological process used and the technical tasks performed by individual parts of the furnace equipment. Comments were also made on the role of individual alloying elements in shaping the performance properties of castings.

Thermal analysis allows for determination of temperature specific for the beginning and the end of phase transitions occurring in studied samples. In this paper results obtained from DTA (Differential Thermal Analysis) of alloys of chemical composition referring to nickel-rich part of Ni-Al-Cr system, specifically from section Ni75Al25÷Ni65Cr35 are presented. Those alloys are based on intermetallic phase Ni3 Al. Referring to measurements obtained during heating and cooling, characteristic peaks related to occurrence of phase transition of order-disorder type were noted as well as melting and solidification temperature of alloys was determined. Results of thermal analysis DTA of studied range were compared with results obtained for section Ni75Al25÷Ni75Cr25 and Ni75Al25÷Ni87Cr13, additionally results of measurements performed on high-temperature solution calorimeter were collated. Both methods presented good compatibility.

An influence of a decreased Cr content on the microstructure of the highly alloyed Cr-Ni cast steel, duplex type, melted under laboratory conditions, was characterized in the paper. The microstructure investigations were performed in the initial state and after the heat treatment (solution annealing) at 1060 C as well as the phase transformation kinetics at continuous cooling was measured. The wear resistance of the investigated cast steel was tested and compared with the 24%Cr-5%Ni-2.5%Mo cast steel. The Cr content decrease, in ferritic-austenitic cast steels (duplex), from 24-26%Cr to 18% leads to the changes of the castings microstructure and eliminating of a brittle \sigma phase. In dependence of the casting cooling rate, apart from ferrite and austenite, also fine martensite precipitates occur in the casting structure. It was shown that the investigated cast steel is characterised by a slightly lower wear resistance than the typical cast steel duplex grades.

Opis:
The Ni-Cr-Mo alloys are used as the alternative for the cobalt alloys in the manufacture of metal prosthetic elements, i.e. crowns, bridges and frame prostheses. The article attempts at a materials science characterization of the nickel-based alloy of the commercial name Argeloy N.P Be-Free by Argen. Within the study, examinations were made on the commercial alloy as well as the alloy which was remelted and cast by the los mould (lost wax) method. Observations of the microstructure were performed with the use of optical and electron scanning microscopy. Also, X-ray structural tests were conducted as well as corrosion resistance tests in an artificial saliva solution (pH = 6,7). It was demonstrated that the examined Ni-22Cr-9Mo alloy characterized in a dendritic structure typical of the cast materials. The X-ray qualitative phase analysis revealed the phase γ'(Ni) in both examined materials, as well as the presence of Cr23C6 type carbides and Nb2C, Ta2C (commercial alloy) and NbC, Ta4C0,04 (cast alloy) phases. The effect of the alloy’s remelting and the morphology of the passive layer on the corrosion resistance of the Ni-Cr-Mo alloy was examined. The results of the electrochemical tests show that the process of re-casting only slightly affects the corrosion resistance and the microstructure of the considered alloy. The roles of recasting process and the passive film homogeneity on the corrosion resistance of Ni-Cr-Mo dental alloy were reviewed. The results the electrochemical study show that the dependence of corrosion resistance on the microstructure associated with the recasting process is marginal.

In this article, the results of secondary metallurgy of L70H2GNM cast steel has been shown. This grade of low alloy cast steel is popular in Poland for heavy castings which works in wear conditions e.g. in coal mills. The ladle refining process was composed of argon stirring in 8.5 Mg bottom pour ladle and treatment with synthetic slags. The three commercial slag mixtures available on casting materials market such as: LDSF of the Kerneos company, UZRA KP and UZRA KP+Al of the ZM Ropczyce company were chosen for examinations. The time of argon blowing through porous plug was 4 minutes for every melt. Experimental results have shown, that sulphur content in steel decreases after refining in ladle. Moreover, desulphurisation ratio during argon stirring have also been influenced by composition of slag mixtures.

Thermodynamic Ellingham-Pourbaix stability diagrams were constructed to provide insight into the mechanism of the observed corrosion behavior. The thermodynamic inference on the corrosion mechanism was supplemented with the morphological, compositional and microstructural analyses of the exposed samples using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analyses. X-ray diffraction result revealed stable corrosion products of NiO, MoNi4 and Cr4.6 MoNi2.1 after accumulated total exposure duration of 139 h to the corrosive atmosphere. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy positively identified formation of rather continuous and adherent pre-oxidation corrosion products although extensively peeled-off oxides were finally observed as corrosion scales on the post-exposure alloy samples, which were attributed to the chlorination/oxidation into thin (spalled) oxides.

Some Fe-Al particles less than 50 μm in diameter were deposited onto the steel substrate by means of the D-gun spraying. A solidification mechanism of an individual particle is described. The particle subjected to the description contained nominally 63 at.% Al. The description was preceded by the TEM / SAED analysis of both the Fe-Al coating and Ni-20Cr interlayer. The whole number of the analyzed particles was partially melted during the deposition. The solidification products like: amorphous phase sub-layer, oscillatory sub-layer which contains two types lamellae distributed alternately and typically non-equilibrium phase sub-layer were revealed. In the micro scale, solidification was considered as a process which occurred in two directions: towards the substrate and towards the non-melted particle part. Both solidification processes underwent the positive thermal gradients. The boron addition was localized within the eutectic precipitates pushed and then rejected by the solid/liquid interface of the solidifying non-equilibrium phase. The proposed model is a general one and therefore can be applied to other systems ;description.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to synthesize and characterize the selected in-situ composites from the Fe-Cr-Ni-Mo-C system, additionally strengthened by intermetallic compounds. The project of the alloys was supported by thermodynamic simulations using Calculation of Phase Diagram approach via Thermo-Calc. Selected alloys were synthesized in an arc furnace in a high purity argon atmosphere using a suction casting unit. The studies involved a range of experimental techniques to characterize the alloys in the as-cast state, including optical emission spectrometry, light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron microprobe analysis, X-ray diffraction and microhardness tests. These experimental studies were compared with the Thermo-Calc data and high resolution dilatometry. The results of investigations presented in this paper showed that there is a possibility to introduce intermetallic compounds, such as χ and σ, through modification of the chemical composition of the alloy with respect to Nieq and Creq. It was found that the place of intermetallic compounds precipitation strongly depends on matrix nature. Results presented in this paper may be successfully used to build a systematic knowledge about the group of alloys with a high volume fraction of complex carbides, and high physicochemical properties, additionally strengthened by intermetallic compounds.
