Opis:
Velocity is one of the main navigation parameters of moving objects. However some systems of position estimation using radio wave measurements cannot provide velocity data due to limitation of their performance. In this paper a velocity measurement method for the DS-CDMA radio navigation system is proposed, which does not require full synchronization of reference stations carrier frequencies. The article presents basics of FDOA (frequency difference of arrival) velocity measurements together with application of this method to an experimental radio navigation system called AEGIR and with some suggestions about the possibility to implement such FDOA measurements in other kinds of asynchronous DS-CDMA radio networks. The main part of this paper present results of performance evaluation of the proposed method, based on laboratory measurements.

Opis:
The purpose of the work was to analyse metazachlor contamination of the soil and metazachlor contamination of rape seeds. Monitoring tests were carried out during the 2010-2012 time period, on winter and spring oilseed rape fields located in south-western Poland. Soil and seed samples were collected at harvest time. The determination of metazachlor residues was conducted using gas chromatography with electron capture detection (GC/ECD). Based on the analysis of a total of 59 soil samples and 59 rape seed samples, metazachlor residue was detected in 45% of the soil samples of winter oilseed rape and in 71% of the soil samples of spring oilseed rape. Metazachlor contamination of rape seed was detected in 29% of winter rape samples and in 53% of spring rape samples. The concentration of assayed residue did not exceed 0.0005-0.0102 mg/kg. There were significantly higher amounts of metazachlor residue determined for the soil and seed samples of spring oilseed rape. None of the analyzed samples of oilseed rape seed showed a residue content exceeding the Maximum Residue Level (MRL).

Opis:
The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of an adjuvant addition on chloridazon degradation rate in soil. The experiment was carried out under controlled laboratory conditions. Chloridazon was applied alone and in a mixture with three different adjuvants: oil, surfactant and multicomponent (used for preemergence application). Chloridazon residue was analysed using gas chromatography with electron capture detector (GC/ECD). Good linearity was found between logarithmic concentration of chloridazon residues and time. The addition of oil and surfactant adjuvants slowed down the degradation of chloridazon in soil. The DT50 values for the mixture of chloridazon + oil and surfactant adjuvants was about 8-14 days higher in comparison with the DT50 for chloridazon applied alone (43 days). No significant differences were observed between degradation rates and the DT50 for chloridazon applied alone and with a multicomponent adjuvant.

The isolation of rye ß-Amy1 and ß-Amy2 gene promoters from nuclear DNA using the inverse polymerase chain reaction (IPCR) technique and characterization of their sequences are presented. The conservation of ß-amylasc coding sequences allowed for simultaneous IPCR amplification of two different promoters with primers designed on the basis of the single known cDNA sequence. Two ß-amylasc gene promoters display a low sequence similarity (47%). Beside consensus TATA and CCAAT boxes, other sequence motives common to both promoters were found. In addition, the homology of amino acid sequences of plant ß-amylases available in the database is discussed.

Opis:
This paper proposes a comprehensive classification of test methods for the diagnosis of concrete structures. The main focus is on the ranges of suitability of the particular methods and techniques for assessing the durability of structures, depending on the principal degradation mechanisms and their effects on this durability. The survey covers non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, which do not in any way breach the integrity of the tested structures, and semi-destructive testing (SDT) methods requiring material samples to be taken or any other minor breach of structural integrity. An original taxonomy of physical, chemical and biological diagnostic methods, useful in assessment of concrete structures durability, is proposed. Equipment specific for selected advanced testing methods is presented as well as exemplary test results.

Opis:
The article presents the results of non-destructive testing and analyses carried out for a brick masonry building from the 19th century, which has many irregularities that involve a lack of inspections and tests of its technical condition for many years, as well as a failure to carry out necessary repairs. The conducted organoleptic tests enabled the most significant building damage to be indicated, and its causes were determined on the basis of the results of non-destructive tests and analyses. These causes include mainly wall cracks, ceiling deflections and excessive dampness. It also contains the relationships, which were developed using non-destructive dielectric and resistive methods when testing the moisture content of the brick walls. These results may be useful for other researchers dealing with brick masonry buildings from a similar period of time. The authors' intention was to present the existing poor technical condition of the brick masonry building and indicate its causes, as well as to present that a lack of appropriate maintenance can lead to a situation in which the life or health of residents is threatened.

Opis:
Artificial neural networks [ANNs] are an effective method for predicting and classifying variables. This article presents the application of an integrated system based on artificial neural networks and calculations by the finite element method [FEM] for the optimization of geometry of a thin-walled element of an air structure. To ensure optimal structure, the structure’s geometry was modified by creating side holes and ribs, also with holes. The main criterion of optimization was to reduce the structure’s weight at the lowest possible deformation of the tested object. The numerical tests concerned a fragment of an elevator used in the “Bryza” aircraft. The tests were conducted for networks with radial basis functions [RBF] and multilayer perceptrons [MLP]. The calculations described in the paper are an attempt at testing the FEM - ANN system with respect to design optimization.

The assurance of the electromagnetic compatibility of sensitive smart metering systems and power electronic converters, which introduce high-level electromagnetic interference is important factor conditioning reliable operation of up to date power systems. Presented experimental results have shown that currently binding, frequency domain tests are ineffective for the evaluation of data transmission error hazards. The proposed in this paper mathematical, time-domain model, based on Diophantine equation, enables evaluation of data transmission errors caused by interference introduced by DC-DC power electronic interfaces with deterministic modulation. In the paper there have been presented possible application areas for the proposed model.

The article presents results of a survey of attitudes toward experts’ recommen- dations in fighting COVID-19 pandemic, scientists and science in general, and academic freedom in Poland, and discusses them in the context of the on-going pandemic as well as local developments in Poland. The global crisis triggered by the coronavirus pandemic highlighted the subtle, yet vital social role played by science, which in normal circumstances does not present itself that vividly. This, paradoxically, comes at a time, when the status of science and scientific freedom is disputed in the Polish public debate. The internet survey was conducted by the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in April 2021 on a sample of Poles aged 18–65.

Opis:
The paper presents selected examples of solutions and specific user applications associated with the industrial forging processes. Various process specific issues encountered during many years of bilateral collaboration with the forging industry are addressed and analysis methods are presented. As demonstrated in numerous articles and publications, the parameters influencing the die forging process are subject to complicated and mutually related dependencies, which can affect and complicate the methods of analysis. For this reason, researchers, more and more frequently, involve the use of additional support tools such as CAD / CAM / CAE, numerical modelling based on FEM, tool surface scanning methods, physical modelling, advanced microstructural research and dedicated control-measurement systems to validate engaged solutions. The research conducted by the authors included mainly: an analysis of the preform preparation, the impact of the geometry on the forging quality and the heating methods of the material and the tools, analysis of the tribological conditions, as well as an optimization of selected processes in respect of the force parameters, strain and temperature distributions and finally, a weight minimization of the input material. The issues discussed by the authors in the article intend, on the basis of the experience of its creators, to review the issues of the current forging technology and to indicate its possible solutions and development directions.
