Opis:
Since the grinding and chemical reagents required for flotation are expensive, coarse particle flotation reduces grinding costs and makes the subsequent process more accessible and cheaper. Recent studies suggest that the flotation of coarse particles using microbubbles has some advantages. However, a thorough analysis of the effectiveness of various flotation parameters and the impact of their interactions on the recovery of coarse particles in the presence and absence of microbubbles has yet to be fully understood. In the current study, the two-level factorial and Box-Behnken experimental designs were performed to characterize, assess, and optimize the implications of seven numerical (sodium oleate, collector; calcium oxide, activator; MIBC, frother; impeller speed; froth depth; pulp concentration; fine particles) and one categorical (microbubbles) independent parameters on the coarse quartz particles. Characterization revealed that froth depth did not significantly affect the flotation recovery of coarse particles in the mechanical laboratory cell. The effects of the variables in the presence of microbubbles revealed that sodium oleate and impeller speed significantly impacted recovery, followed by calcium oxide and fine particles, both of which had a medium influence, and MIBC and pulp concentration, which had a minimal impact. The recovery of coarse particles increased by 92.714% when microbubbles were used, compared to the estimated maximum recovery under ideal conditions of 62.258% without them. From this, it can be concluded that a high coarse particle flotation recovery is possible by optimizing the hydrodynamic conditions and the chemical environment using microbubbles.

In this study oxalic, citric, and glycolic acids were used in order to reduce Fe and Ti (colored impurities) from the slimes (-75 μm) feldspar samples using organic acids. The results showed that removal ratios of the colored impurities from the feldspar samples were 67.9% for Fe and 43.75% for Ti using oxalic acid and the agitated leaching (AL) method. The influence of main parameters (temperature, pulp density, leaching time, and acid concentration) were examined by using full the factorial design (24) ANOVA-Yates test technique. Next, the removal ratios of Fe% and Ti% in the tests were determined to be 80.44% and 45.39%, respectively. Additionally, the main parameters which were obtained from the best results of AL were optimized for the -500+75 μm feldspar sample. Finally, the microwave-assisted pressure leaching (MAPL) method was apply to determine the effect of pressure on leaching. The obtained results indicated that the optimum removal ratios obtained were 95.74% for Fe and 70.88% for Ti by using the MAPL tests with oxalic acid. Furthermore, the measured whiteness (L) values were observed to be over 90%. This is a suitable purification ratio for the ceramic and glass industry.

The encryption of image data is artful as compare to others due to some special characteristics such as entropy, contrast, the correlation between the pixels, intensity, and homogeneity. During encryption process, it is conventionally not easy to manage these characteristics with non-chaotic cryptosystems. Therefore for the sake of strong encryption algorithms, in last decades many cryptographers have presented invulnerable schemes for image encryption based on the chaotic maps. This manuscript aims to propose a strong encryption scheme based on a symmetric group of permutation advanced encryption standard (AES) substitution boxes and modified Chebyshev map. Principally, the secret key depends upon the parameters of Chebyshev map to create confusion in the main image and is encrypted by the scheme made from the S8 AES S-boxes and chaotic map. By this procedure, one can obtain an encrypted image that is entirely twisted. The results of analyses showed that the presented image encryption is strong and invulnerable.

Gravity separation using jigs is widely used for coarse particle sizes separation. However, fine sizes reduce jig performance. In this study, the upgrading of celestite ore by jig was investigated at different size fractions in the presence of ragging material. Three size fractions, i.e., -15+2 mm, - 2.0 + 0.50 mm and - 0.50 + 0.08 mm were used. The steel balls were used, as ragging material, to improve the separation of fines as well as to improve the concentrate quality. The statistical design was used to correlate celestite grade and recovery with studied operating variables, i.e., the ragging number of layers, ragging balls diameter, and separation time, at a fixed water flow rate and stroke length. The design results indicated that the ragging balls diameter and their number of layers play an important role. The smaller the ragging balls diameter and the higher the ragging number of layers are the better the concentrate grade but the longer the separation time. A celestite concentrate of (> 95% SrSO4) with 74.5% recovery was obtained for - 2.0 + 0.50 mm size fraction at the optimum conditions; i.e., 3.1 mm ragging balls diameter, one ragging layers, and 15 minutes separation time.

Opis:
Coal is a material which has many features deciding about its quality. Among them, the decisive ones are mainly ash contents, sulfur contents and combustion heat. The paper presents the investigation of coal characteristics of three selected coal types in the context of their energetic value. For this purpose samples were collected from three different Polish mines: coal types 31, 34.2 and 35 (Polish classification of coals). Each of these materials was separated into particle size fractions (9 fractions) and then into 8 density fractions by separation in heavy liquids. For each size-density fractions obtained in this way, chemical analyses were performed which allowed for determination of such features as combustion heat, sulfur contents, ash contents, volatile parts contents and analytical moisture. Altogether, seven dimensions of grained material characteristics were obtained. The data prepared in this way was subsequently analyzed for correlation with the purpose of determining significant relations between investigated features. It was stated that the most correlated coal features are density, combustion heat, ash contents and volatile parts contents. For multidimensional analysis and identification of coal type, the modern image visualization technique, the Observational Tunnels Method, was applied. After performing seven-dimensional analysis aimed at the proper recognition of coal type, it was decided to determine the minimum amount of random variables, which describe a particular material in order to identify its type. It was stated that the crucial coal identification parameter is “analytical moisture”. Due to existing correlation between individual features, three of them were selected for testing: analytical moisture, sulfur contents and volatile parts contents. On the basis of the obtained images, it was stated that it was possible to obtain a view with the data concerning each type of coal being located in other part of the space. Subsequently, it was checked if a similar result is possible when the parameter “volatile parts contents” is replaced with highly correlated parameters “combustion heat” and “ash contents”. In both cases the exchange of these variables did not produce good enough results. This can be explained by a different scale of empirical data making it impossible to obtain a clear multidimensional image for which all three types of coal would be located in other parts of space. However, it was proved that the modern graphical and computer methods can be successfully applied to identify the types of particulate materials.

Opis:
Based on a literature review concerning methane emissions in Poland, it was stated in 2009 that the National Greenhouse Inventory 2007 [13] was published. It was prepared firstly to meet Poland’s obligations resulting from point 3.1 Decision no. 280/2004/WE of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 February 2004, concerning a mechanism for monitoring community greenhouse gas emissions and for implementing the Kyoto Protocol and secondly, for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Kyoto Protocol. The National Greenhouse Inventory states that there are no detailed data concerning methane emissions in collieries in the Polish mining industry. That is why the methane emission in the methane coal mines of Górnośląskie Zagłębie Węglowe – GZW (Upper Silesian Coal Basin – USCB) in Poland was meticulously studied and evaluated. The applied methodology for estimating methane emission from the GZW coal mining system was used for the four basic sources of its emission. Methane emission during the mining and post-mining process. Such an approach resulted from the IPCC guidelines of 2006 [10]. Updating the proposed methods (IPCC2006) of estimating the methane emissions of hard coal mines (active and abandoned ones) in Poland, assumes that the methane emission factor (EF) is calculated based on methane coal mine output and actual values of absolute methane content. The result of verifying the method of estimating methane emission during the mining process for Polish coal mines is the equation of methane emission factor EF.

The gold extraction from Malaysian mesothermal lode gold ore through the cyanidation method was performed. The effect of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2 were investigated on the percentage of gold recovery. The statistical analysis method using a response surface design-central composite design was applied to find the optimum condition for gold extraction. The studied parameters were NaCN concentration (300-500 ppm), H2O2 concentration (205-410 ppm), and Pb(NO3)2 concentration (50-150 ppm). It was found that increasing the amount of NaCN and H2O2 as well as decreasing the amount of Pb(NO3)2 in the studied range, increased the gold recovery. The analysis of variance suggested the linear model for the gold extraction with the optimum condition at 467.3 ppm NaCN, 94.96 ppm Pb(NO3)2, and 340 ppm H2O2. The gold extracted from the ore at the optimum condition was 88.97% as compared to 62.02% from conventional cyanidation. The characterization study of the gold ore indicated that the finely gold particles interlocked in the aluminosilicate phase (grain size of ~10.0 μm). The Van’t Hoff differential method justified that the cyanidation was of second order with a specific reaction rate of 0.0501/hour.

Opis:
Extractive industries often use explosives to destroy rocks, and productivity requirements tend to increase the charges of the explosives. The blasts induce vibrations, which result in a potential damage of the surrounding structures. Therefore, the prediction of vibrations should be described with accuracy, in order to ensure the safety of engineered structures. However, the prediction of vibrations' levels remain a complicated issue, because it involves numerous parameters correlated to the quarry site. In this paper, statistical analysis based on the peak particle velocity (PPV) and the attenuation law has been carried out to assess the safety charges (Q) for different distances (R) between the blast and the considered structure to secure. Moreover, the experimental investigations were conducted on the quarry site of "Sococim", which is located on the south coast of Senegal. To ensure the safety of the "Conveyor belt" and "Panel 1 (Upper exploitation level)" sites, the PPV should be less than 10 mm/s. In fact, the attenuation model has been used to assess the safe charge weights of the explosive (Q) to be used at the "Conveyor belt" site and at the "Panel 1 (Upper exploitation level)" site. Therefore, the safe charge weights per delay (Q) were respectively 116 kg and 13.75 kg.

The aim of this paper was to evaluate which method of acellularization and sterilization is optimal, in the meaning of which processes have the least impact on the deterioration of mechanical properties of porcine tissues used for xenogeneic applications. Methods: The static tensile probe was conducted for 80 skin specimens obtained from transgenic swine, which are used as a wound dressing for skin recipient. Obtained data were subsequently analyzed with the use of statistical methods. Results: It was found that Young’s modulus for the samples after the sterilization process for the dispase substance and the mixed method (SDS + trypsin) were statistically significantly changed. In the case of dispase, Young’s modulus value before the sterilization process was 12.4 MPa and after the value increased to 28.0 MPa. For the mixed method (SDS + trypsin) before the sterilization process Young’s modulus value was 5.6 MPa and after it was increased to 6.3 MPa. The mixed method (SDS + trypsin) had the slightest effect on changing the mechanical properties of the samples before and after the sterilization process. Conclusions: It was confirmed that different methods of acellularization and the process of sterilization have an influence on the change of mechanical properties of the skin of transgenic swine. In the authors’ opinion, the mixed method (SDS + trypsin) should be recommended as the best one for the preparation of transgenic porcine dermal dressings because it ensures a smaller probability of dressing’s damage during a surgical procedure.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of different methods of trabecular bone storage on changes in its elastic properties. Methods: 186 porcine trabecular bone samples were divided into 6 groups, approximately 30 samples each. Five groups were stored using the following methods: in buffered 10% formalin solution at room temperature, frozen at –21 C, in the open air at room temperature, in 96% alcohol solution and in 50% alcohol solution at room temperature. The samples were subjected to compression test to measure the elastic modulus. The samples after the first measurement were subjected to further measurements for 14 weeks, every 2 weeks. The sixth group was used to determine the effects of 10 freeze-thaw cycles on changes in the elastic modulus. A Kolmogorov–Smirnov test at significance level p = 0.05 was used to determine the significance of changes in time. Results: The changes in elastic properties caused by the different storage methods were statistically insignificant, except for the group of samples stored in the open air. The changes in elastic modulus after 10 freeze-thaw cycles were also statistically insignificant. Conclusions: Except for the storage method in the open air, other storage methods did not significantly affect changes in elastic properties of the trabecular bones after 14 weeks. No effects of 10 freeze-thaw cycles on changes in elastic modulus were observed.

The paper presents a multidimensional analysis of mineral processing feeds consisting of different amounts of different size and density fractions. The considered feed was coal which was screened into size fractions which were subsequently separated into density fractions and their weights determined. The feed material was characterized with commonly used size and density frequency and cumulative distribution plots and next approximated with the Weibull (size) and logistic (density) mathe-matical functions. Having the contribution of each particle size and density fraction in the feed a two–dimensional analysis of the feed size/density properties was performed using two methods. The first one is based on the best chosen cumulative frequency function for two random variables and the second uses the so–called Morgenstern family functions. In the paper the undependability of the particles size and density was investigated using statistical approach based on the so–called Χ2 test, and the correlation between these parameters using the so–called F–Snedecor statistical test. In both cases it was found that particles size and density of the investigated coal particles were dependent what means that with growth of particle size its density grew too and there was correlation between them regardless of significance level assumed for the analysis.

The necessity to develop an optode array in order to probe the fetus oxygenation noninvasively regardless of the fetus position has been highlighted in previous literature. In this paper, a series of optical simulations are carried out to determine the best representation of optode array by using optical properties at systolic and diastolic states. The selection is based on the highest flux values accumulated at respective detectors. To accomplish the objective, a homogenous three-layer semi-infinite tissue model is implemented to represent the pregnant woman model. The geometry of the model as well as Monte Carlo simulation are carried out using commercial software, whereas the optical properties related to systolic and diastolic states are defined for all wavelengths. A statistical noise analysis is also introduced in order to find a sufficient number of rays to be launched into the optical tissue system.

The legal process involved in domestic mergers has been considered. European Union regulations were investigated, as well as their direct transposition into Polish legislation. The process itself always consists of managerial, ownership and registration phases. Nevertheless, these phases are not homogeneous and may take different courses depending on the provisions prescribed by the regulations. Several methods of measuring the time to complete mergers have been presented. In the empirical part of the article, the definition of the private time to completion has been adopted which assumes that that the procedure starts by drafting the terms of the merger and ends with the registration of the merger. The influence of different provisions on this measure has been analyzed for the case of Polish domestic mergers. Moreover, statistical reasoning has been conducted for this market showing that several recent legal amendments have shortened the legal procedure involved in consolidation. Finally, some conclusions and suggestions for future research have been presented in the paper.
