Opis:
This paper presents predictive speed control of induction motor. The structure with finite control set and long prediction horizon is proposed. In methods with finite set of solutions there is assumed the use of signals that can be obtained in inverter only. Long prediction horizons allow better performance of predictive control structures to be achieved. In this case, long prediction horizon refers to systems with more than one prediction step. The weighting factors determine the properties of control structure via an optimization method using genetic algorithms. The results of simulation studies has been presented.

Opis:
For the past few decades, control and building engineering communities have been focusing on thermal comfort as a key factor in designing sustainable building evaluation methods and tools. However, estimating the indoor air temperature of buildings is a complicated task due to the nonlinear and complex building dynamics characterised by the time-varying environment with disturbances. The primary focus of this paper is designing a predictive and probabilistic room temperature model of buildings using Gaussian processes (GPs) and incorporating it into model predictive control (MPC) to minimise energy consumption and provide thermal comfort satisfaction. The full probabilistic capabilities of GPs are exploited from two perspectives: the mean prediction is used for the room temperature model, while the uncertainty is involved in the MPC objective not to lose the desired performance and design a robust controller. We illustrated the potential of the proposed method in a numerical example with simulation results.

We use optimal control theory to determine the optimal rate of change in the subscription fee and the optimal ratio of ad space to the total web page space for a web content provider. An optimal solution is obtained using the maximum principle approach and the model predictive control approach. Numerical experiments show that it is preferable to use the first approach when the planning horizon is short and the second approach when the planning horizon is long.

Opis:
Today, a clear trend in electrification process has emerged in all areas to cope with carbon emissions. For this purpose, the widespread use of electric cars and wind energy conversion systems has increased the attention and importance of electric machines. To overcome limitations in mature control techniques, model predictive control (MPC) strategies have been proposed. Of these strategies, predictive torque control (PTC) has been well accepted in the control of electric machines. However, it suffers from the selection of weighting factors in the cost function. In this paper, the weighting factor associated with the flux error term is optimised by the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) algorithm through torque and flux errors. The NSGA-II algorithm generates a set of optimal solutions called Pareto front solutions, and a possible solution must be selected from among the Pareto front solutions for use in the PTC strategy. Unlike the current literature, three decision-making methods are applied to the Pareto front solutions and the weighting factors selected by each method are tested under different operating conditions in terms of torque ripples, flux ripples, cur-rent harmonics and average switching frequencies. Finally, a decision-making method is recommended.

Opis:
Nowadays, the increasing number of non-linear loads influences the grid, causing grid voltage disturbances. These disturbances may be very dangerous for the equipment and can create faults in converter behaviour. However, the right control algorithm can improve the reliability of the work. For a current source rectifier, the finite control set model predictive control has been proposed. This method is very flexible because of the variety of the possible cost function forms. It has been examined under grid voltage disturbed by the higher harmonics and the voltage drop. Simulation results prove the ability to damp the distortions and to ensure the unity power factor. Summing up, the algorithm is a very good solution for use in applications such as battery charging, active power filtering and low-voltage direct current load feeding.

Opis:
Probabilistic price forecasting has recently gained attention in power trading because decisions based on such predictions can yield significantly higher profits than those made with point forecasts alone. At the same time, methods are being developed to combine predictive distributions, since no model is perfect and averaging generally improves forecasting performance. In this article, we address the question of whether using CRPS learning, a novel weighting technique minimizing the continuous ranked probability score (CRPS), leads to optimal decisions in day-ahead bidding. To this end, we conduct an empirical study using hourly day-ahead electricity prices from the German EPEX market. We find that increasing the diversity of an ensemble can have a positive impact on accuracy. At the same time, the higher computational cost of using CRPS learning compared to an equal-weighted aggregation of distributions is not offset by higher profits, despite significantly more accurate predictions.

This paper presents a control method for a four-leg three-level flying capacitor converter (FCC) operating as a shunt active power filter (SAPF), based on model predictive control with finite number of control states (FS-MPC). Current control and capacitor voltage balancing are described. Influence of the mismatch of the inductive filter model parameters on the current control precision is analysed. Results are supported by the experimental waveforms obtained with a 10kVA set-up.

Opis:
This article presents a simple technique of identifying the initial speed that allows for restarting a sensorless induction motor (IM) drive controlled by a model predictive flux control (MPFC). Initial speed identification is required because, according to the research, the applied current-model reference adaptive system (C-MRAS) can restart the IM after failure only if the error of the initial speed set in the estimator is < 25%. The proposed technique is based on short periods of flux generation for the certain initial speed and observation of the estimated torque respond. The direction of the estimated torque determines whether the real speed is higher or lower than the initial one set in the estimator. In two steps, the algorithm identifies the initial speed with an accuracy of 25%. This allows for a quick restart of the IM from any speed, eliminating the disadvantage of the sensorless drive control system with the C-MRAS speed estimator. The experimental results measured on a 50 kW drive which illustrates the operation and performances of the system are presented.

Opis:
Classical voltage space vector modulation techniques cannot be efficiently applied in four-switch three-phase voltage inverter-fed electrical drives due to a voltage offset in DC-link capacitors. The capacitor voltages imbalance is a result of a bidirectional current which flows in a phase of an electric motor that is connected to a DC-link capacitor midpoint. To overcome this problem which leads to an incorrect inverter voltage modulation or even can affect the DC-link capacitors, predictive control algorithms considering the voltage offset in DC-link capacitors have been developed. Despite the predictive methods are highly effective, they require to adjust the cost function weighting factors which is normally an inexplicit task. In this paper, an on-line tuning method of the weighting factor related to the capacitor voltages imbalance incorporated in the cost function of the predictive algorithm has been proposed. According to the proposed approach, the weighting factor is self-adjusted so that the DC-link capacitor voltages are stabilized as well as a high quality of the drive control is remained simultaneously, regardless of its operating point. The proposed strategy has been validated by using simulation model of the induction motor drive system.
