Opis:
This paper presents a cascade system which stabilizes the transverse deviation of the ship in relation to the set path. The ship’s path is determined as a broken line with specified coordinates of way points. Three controllers are used in the system. The primary controller is the trajectory controller. It generates the set value of heading for the course control system or angular velocity for the turning control system. The course control system is used on the straight line of the set trajectory while the turning controller is used during a change of the set trajectory segment. The characteristics of the nonlinear controllers are selected in such a way that the properties of the control system with the rate of turn controller are modelled by the first-order inertia, while the system with the course keeping controller is modelled by a second-order linear term. The presented control system was tested in Matlab-Simulink environment. The results of tests performed on a lake are presented and discussed.

The paper shows purposefulness and possiblity of automation of ship propulsion systems, especially those of POD type, intended to be used on four Baltic navigation ships: a containership, ro-ro ship, product tanker, as well as river-sea-going ship, designed within the frame of the Eureka "Baltecologicalship" project. Requirements of ship classification societies, and general ones for modern ship control systems were presented, as well as a review and analysis of currently applied power plant automation systems for diesel- electric ships fitted with podded propulsion drive (POD), were performed. Moreover real ways and possibilities of controlling ship s course and speed were indicated. Information contained in this paper may facilitate selecting appropriate design assumptions for a propulsion control system to be applied on the above mantioned ships.

Marine navigation consists in continuous observation of the situation at sea, determination the anti-collision manoeuvre. So it necessary to determine ship safe trajectory as a sequence of ship course changing manoeuvres. Each manoeuvre is undertaken on the basis of information obtained from the anti-collision system ARPA. This paper describes a method of safe ship control in the collision situation in a fuzzy environment based on a branch and bound method and a genetic algorithm. The optimal safe ship trajectory in a collision situation is presented as multistage decision-making process.

The dynamical positioning system is a complex control consisting of a number of components, including: filters, observers, controllers, and propeller allocation systems. The design and preliminary analysis of operational quality of system operation are usually done based on numerical simulations performed with the aid of the mathematical model of the ship. The article presents a concept of the dynamic positioning system applied to steering the training ship Blue Lady used for training captains in the ship handling research and training centre owned by the Foundation for Safety of Navigation and Environment Protection in Ilawa/Kamionka. The simulation tests performed in the numerical environment of Matlab/Simulink have proved the usability of the designed system for steering a ship at low speed.

The paper introduces algorithm for determining the relative positions of two ships manoeuvring as a pair. This algorithm also takes into account determination of angle ă, which is difference between present approaching vessel and guidance vessel course. Relative positioning system is a vision system based on three colours LEDs matrix and rotating CCD camera. There are presented ways of distance calculation based on photogrammetric methods from the known distance between the characteristic points of the real. Several possible cases are taken into account. The considerations have been illustrated on the basis of model of the system. These results confirm the correctness of the operation of the algorithm that is used by the designed measuring system.

This paper presents the designs of two observers, which are: the extended Kalman filter and the nonlinear passive observer. Based on the measured values of ship position and heading, the observers estimate the surge, sway and yaw velocities of the ship motion. The observers make use of the simplified nonlinear mathematical model of ship motion in which the neglected ship dynamics and disturbances are modelled using bias. The designed observers firstly have been simulated on a computer model where their parameters were calibrated, and then were implemented on the physical model of the training ship “Blue Lady” in the ship handling centre in Ilawa-Kamionka. The comparative analysis was done with respect to the estimated variables describing the ship motion in three directions: surge, sway and yaw.

The paper presents a mathematical model of a positional game of the safe control of a vessel in collision situations at sea, containing a description of control, state variables and state constraints as well as sets of acceptable ship strategies, as a multi-criteria optimisation task. The three possible tasks of multi-criteria optimisation were formulated in the form of non-cooperative and cooperative multi-stage positional games as well as optimal non-game controls. The multicriteria control algorithms corresponding to these tasks were subjected to computer simulation in Matlab/Simulink software based on the example of the real navigational situation of the passing of one’s own vessel with eighteen objects encountered in the North Sea.

Opis:
This paper presents a new approach to the existing training of marine control engineering professionals using artificial intelligence. We use optimisation strategies, neural networks and game theory to support optimal, safe ship control by applying the latest scientific achievements to the current process of educating students as future marine officers. Recent advancements in shipbuilding, equipment for robotised ships, the high quality of shipboard game plans, the cost of overhauling, dependability, the fixing of the shipboard equipment and the requesting of the safe shipping and environmental protection, requires constant information on recent equipment and programming for computational intelligence by marine officers. We carry out an analysis to determine which methods of artificial intelligence can allow us to eliminate human subjectivity and uncertainty from real navigational situations involving manoeuvring decisions made by marine officers. Trainees learn by using computer simulation methods to calculate the optimal safe traverse of the ship in the event of a possible collision with other ships, which are mapped using neural networks that take into consideration the subjectivity of the navigator. The game-optimal safe trajectory for the ship also considers the uncertainty in the navigational situation, which is measured in terms of the risk of collision. The use of artificial intelligence methods in the final stage of training on ship automation can improve the practical education of marine officers and allow for safer and more effective ship operation.

This paper explains the basics of the Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI), with examples of simulations and calculations created in Matlab/Simulink programming environment where the controlled plant is the “Blue Lady” ship model. First chapter of this paper gives a short overview of publications describing the use of Linear Matrix Inequalities method. Second chapter contains basic definitions and equations for the LMI method. Chapter three presents the use of LMI method for ship control by describing controller synthesis for the “Blue Lady”. Chapter four compares the operation of two controllers, the first one consisting of three independent proper adjusted PID controllers and the second one being a multivariable LMI controller. Finally conclusions from the above comparison are drawn.

This study presents a method for the dynamic value assignment of evolutionary parameters to accelerate, automate and generalise the neuroevolutionary method of ship handling for different navigational tasks and in different environmental conditions. The island model of population is used in the modified neuroevolutionary method to achieve this goal. Three different navigational situations are considered in the simulation, namely, passing through restricted waters, crossing with another vessel and overtaking in the open sea. The results of the simulation examples show that the island model performs better than a single non-divided population and may accelerate some complex and dynamic navigational tasks. This adaptive island-based neuroevolutionary system used for the COLREG manoeuvres and for the finding safe ship’s route to a given destination in restricted waters increases the accuracy and flexibility of the simulation process. The time statistics show that the time of simulation of island NEAT was shortened by 6.8% to 27.1% in comparison to modified NEAT method.

Opis:
This paper presents the application of the reinforcement learning algorithms to the task of autonomous determination of the ship trajectory during thein-harbour and harbour approaching manoeuvres. Authors used Markov decision processes formalism to build up the background of algorithm presentation. Two versions of RL algorithms were tested in the simulations: discrete (Q-learning) and continuous form (Least-Squares Policy Iteration). The results show that in both cases ship trajectory can be found. However discrete Q-learning algorithm suffered from many limitations (mainly curse of dimensionality) and practically is not applicable to the examined task. On the other hand, LSPI gave promising results. To be fully operational, proposed solution should be extended by taking into account ship heading and velocity and coupling with advanced multi-variable controller.
