Opis:
In the paper the problems of cryosurgery treatment are discussed. In particular the heat exchange between external cylindrical cryoprobe and human tissue is analyzed. The cryoprobe tip temperature changes from the initial temperature to the minimal one and back in a linear way (broken line). Thermophysical parameters determining the thermal properties of tissue can be treated as the temperature-dependent functions. The freezing model bases on the approach called ‘a one domain method’, and in the energy equation called a substitute thermal capacity appears. At the stage of computations the control volume method (CVM) is used. In the final part of paper the examples of computations are presented.

Opis:
Thermal processes in the domain of a human forearm are considered. The external surface of forearm is in the direct thermal contact with the environment. The steady state problem is considered. From the mathematical point of view, the task is described by the system of the Poisson-type equations, the boundary conditions given on the contact surface between tissue sub-domains, the boundary conditions determining heat transfer between blood vessels and tissue and the boundary conditions on the external surface of the system. The non-homogeneous forearm domain is reconstructed as accurately as possible (3D task). At the stage of numerical modelling, the finite element method has been used. In the final part of the paper the example of computations is presented.

Thermal processes occurring in the heated tissue are described by the 1D generalized dual-phase lag equation supplemented by appropriate boundary and initial conditions. Using the sensitivity analysis method, the additional problem connected with the porosity is formulated. Both problems are solved by means of the explicit scheme of the finite difference method. In this way it is possible to estimate the temperature changes due to the perturbation of porosity. In the final part of the paper, the example of computation is shown and the conclusions are formulated.

Opis:
In the paper the simplified model of thermal processes proceeding in the domain of biological tissue secured with protective clothing is discussed. In particular, the simplification of the mathematical model consists in the omission of the real layer of fabric for which the transient temperature field is determined by the Fourier equation and the introduction in this place of the additional thermal resistance appearing in the boundary condition determining the heat exchange between tissue and environment. In this way both the mathematical model of the thermal processes in the system considered and also numerical realization are greatly simplified. To verify the effectiveness of the approach proposed, the solution of the basic problem and the simplified one have been solved (1D task) using the finite difference method and the results have been compared. It turned out that the results are close and from the practical point of view such simplification is fully acceptable.

In this paper the 2D heterogeneous tissue domain (forearm cross-section) insulated by a layer of protective clothing is considered. The aim of considerations is to develop an algorithm simulating the tissue heating process resulting from the sudden change of external boundary conditions. Here, the authors exploit a certain version of the control volume method (CVM) using the Voronoi tessellation. The mathematical model of heat exchange in the domain analyzed is formulated in the form of a boundary-initial problem based on the system of partial differential equations (energy equations) supplemented by the adequate boundary and initial conditions. In the final part of the paper, the examples of numerical simulations are shown.

The Cattaneo-Vernotte (CVE) equation is considered. This equation belongs to the group of hyperbolic PDE. Supplementing this equation by two additional terms corresponding to perfusion and metabolic heat sources one can apply the CVE as a mathematical model describing the heat transfer processes proceeding in domain of the soft tissue. Such an approach is recently often preferred substituting the classical Pennes model. At the stage of numerical computations the different numerical methods of the PDE solving can be used. In this paper the problems of stability conditions for the explicit scheme of the finite difference method (FDM) are discussed. The appropriate condition limiting the admissible time step have been found using the von Neumann analysis.

Opis:
The aim of the study is to analyze photothermal and photochemical phenomena that occur during photodynamic therapy (PDT). In this type of therapy, under the influence of the laser, reactions take place related to the transformation of triplet oxygen form into its singlet form which is cytotoxic to the tissue. The increases in temperature resulting from the laser-tissue interaction during PDT are not big; however, they can lead to changes in tissue perfusion, which can affect oxygen delivery to the tissue. The proposed model uses optical diffusion equation, Pennes bioheat transfer equation, and reactions equations for PDT. The main findings of the analysis show the impact of temperature on the value of the perfusion coefficient and triplet oxygen distributions at the end of the treatment procedure.
