Opis:
The paper presents a method of identification parameters of shaft line alignment and its influence on operational reliability of marine propulsion system. The discussion about shaft line parameters (bearings' reactions, bending moment and shear forces acting on crankshaft or gear box, and stresses distribution in the shaft line) which has an influence on marine propulsion system reliability was presented. Proper shaft line alignment is often a problem for repair shipyards, for aged ships without sufficient documentation. Some data can be draw by measurements; e.g. shaft line dimensions or intermediate bearings' reactions. Other data (stern tube bearing load, real axis of shaft line) have to be determined on the base of calculations. Author proposed combined experimental-analytical method for identified and optimization (correction) some existing parameters and checking power transmission system’s foundation. Specialised software (based on Finite Element Method) has been developed for shaft line alignment calculations. Main novelties of the software are elastic supports (model of bearings – boundary conditions) of the shaft line, continuous support as a model of stern tube bearing and influence coefficients calculations. An example analysis with discussion has been performed for cargo ships with medium-speed main engine. Multi-variant computations supported by measurements of the ships’ shaft line have been carried out. Changes in shaft line alignment have been proposed in order to increase reliability of propulsion system.

Opis:
Preliminary ship owners' assumptions for new ship consist of deadweight (for container vessel load capacity TEU), speed shipping line and others. Taking it as a base, in early stage of design one has to select propulsion type. This goal needs definition of principal dimensions of a vessel, which are the base for further calculations of hull’s resistance and evaluation of necessary power of main engine (engines) to fulfil shipping requirements. Selection of main dimensions of vessel is limited by rules regarding buoyancy, stability, hull strength, manoeuvring capability, and limitations related to seaways or harbours characteristic. In this paper is presented the methodology of calculation of principal parameters of a vessel, necessary for calculation of displacement in relation to vessel’s type, volumetric coefficients, Froude number, and others values affecting ship’s dimensions. It is about midship section coefficient, waterline coefficient, prismatic coefficients and hull feature and area coefficients. Those values are necessary for calculation of hull resistance. In the table are presented comparison of results of calculations above mentioned values and movement resistance and propulsion power of three container vessels representing different load capacity and one bulk carrier. There are also presented different calculation methods of transverse midship section coefficient and wet area coefficient, for 5000TEU container vessel.

Opis:
The article refers to results and conclusions on post-emergency repairs of a turbo-charging system of a DEUTZ engine of the SBV 8M 628 type of 1715 kW – the main power unit of a cement carrier. The failure of the turbocharger led to severing of a part of the exhaust outlet valve head. In order to determine the cause of the turbocharger fault, parametric identification of the reference state of the turbocharging system interacting with the ship main power engine has been carried out. The post-emergency servicing of the turbocharger comprised mounting a new blade rim of expansive instruments of smaller capacity than the so far used. Control measurement results of the power system after the replacement of the turbocharger turbine nozzle have been presented. Limitations of correct engine operation have been noted in the range of maximum load with continuous power (MCR). A range of corrective maintenance servicing of fuel equipment has been presented. Using the values of measured torque at the propeller shaft, incorrect interaction between the shaft and the main engine has been noted. A new propeller, adequate to the design operational parameters of the engine characteristics, has been chosen and mounted. The correctness of turbine expansive instrument replacement has been verified by correct interaction between the elements of the power system: propeller – main engine – turbocharging system. Thus, a wider range of economically acceptable ship operation has been obtained.

Opis:
The paper is a discussion on ground-based laboratory tests of the aircraft’s electric propulsion system. The tests were intended to find relationships between environmental conditions and characteristics of the aircraft electric motor. The object under examination was a brushless DC motor AXI 2820/14 of 360 W power. Presented and discussed is the AFIT-made test bench that enables suitable, pre-planned experiments to be carried out. Discussed are also procedures of taking measurements of electric motor characteristics, followed with discussion of results. Presented selected issues of parametric description of gained results. With measurements as the basis, the relationships, first, between the electric motor’s efficiency and temperature, and second, between both the applied power and the power output (effective power) and the ambient temperature have been found. The most important findings of the testing work are, first, that the pressure does not affect the characteristics of the electric motor’s performance and second, determination of how temperature affects these characteristics. The results gained have formed the basis for the most vital flight parameters of electrically driven aircraft to be found, including the energy consumption essential for the flight range and endurance. All these findings give grounds for standardization calculations that consist in recalculation of characteristics determined in the course of aircraft flight-testing. Because of their representativeness, they also prove good illustrative examples to demonstrate properties of aircraft’s electric propulsion system.

Opis:
In this article is presented the methodology of calculation of principal parameters of hull a vessel and resistance components. The approximate method is based on the analysis of the results of model tests and surrender tests presented in the literature. Ship owners' preliminary assumptions for new ship consist of deadweight, speed-shipping line and others. This goal needs definition of principal dimensions of a vessel, which are the basis for further calculations of hull’s resistance and evaluation of necessary power of main engine to fulfil shipping requirements. The route and its environment, type of cargo, quantity to be moved, and value of the cargo and port facilities are typical features, which will be considered when evolving the size, speed, and specification of a suitable ship. Specific service requirements will be similarly considered when evolving vessels such as warships, passenger ships or fishing vessels. Selection of main dimensions of vessel is limited by related to seaways or harbours characteristic and limitations rules regarding buoyancy, stability, hull strength, manoeuvring capability, etc. The influence of the main dimensions of the ship and their coefficients of maritime and strength properties of the ship were presented. Moreover, formulas for calculation of the ship's resistance components, such as friction resistance, and wave shape, as well as the results of calculations for different types of ships, for the assumed deadweight and speed of sailing, are presented.

In the paper, are presented major constraints for designing of new vessels coming from ship-owner assumptions such as seafaring limitations and safety of shipping regulations due to Classification Societies Rules or coming out from designing experience. In the paper are presented components of ship’s resistance and methods of total resistance calculations what is a basis for power calculation and propulsion designing. Moreover, are presented results of calculations of resistance components of different types of ships, and variety of displacement and sailing velocity. It has to be assumed, that presented method concerns preliminary design stage and can vary from different ships classes and constructions of hulls.
