W dobie procesów globalizacji, rzucających nowe światło na kwestię terytorialnych postaw społecznej solidarności, interesującym wydaje się określenie czynników, które posiadają decydujące znaczenie w kształtowaniu więzi jednostki z jej miejscem zamieszkania. Problematyka więzi z terytorium nabiera szczególnego znaczenia zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do środowiska miejskiego, w dużo większym stopniu podatnego na zachodzące zmiany. Głównym celem niniejszego artykułu jest wskazanie dominujących typów przywiązania mieszkańców do swojego miasta oraz określenie korelatów ich występowania w badanej zbiorowości mieszkańców Łodzi.

The process of socio-economic transformation in Poland generates many changes both of local and national character. In this situation, the role of the Łódź labour market undergoes a constant evolution. This paper concerns the analysis of the selected aspects of unemployment in Łódź. The main goal is to present various problems concerning the condition and the structure of unemployment in Łódź. The report is based on statistical data and informations provided by the Provincial Statistical Office in Łódź and the Provincial Labour Office, as well as by the Central Statistical Office in Warszawa. The data were helpful when analyzing unemployment in Łódź. It should be noted also that a number of different issues connected with the Łódź local labour market are open. Hence, it would seem advisable to continue the research in this field.

Pani Ewa (tak zwracali się do Niej współpracownicy) oficjalnie przepracowała w Muzeum w Łodzi prawie 50 lat. Przeszła całą ścieżkę kariery od asystenta do starszego kustosza. Opiekowała się działem Starszej i Środkowej Epoki Kamienia. Była niezwykle szanowaną i uznaną badaczką mezolitu oraz neolitu szczególnie związana z kulturą pucharów lejkowatych. Pani Ewa była zawsze bardzo życzliwa i pomocna a ponadto całe życie zawodowe jak i osobiste poświęciła Muzeum Archeologicznemu i Etnograficznemu w Łodzi a także wiele razy pomogła nam w czasie naszej pracy w Muzeum. Wg nas oddanie Pani Ewy dla Muzeum oraz archeologii zasługuje nie tylko na tak krótką notatkę.
In this paper we would like to remember long-term curator of Archaeological and Ethnographical Museum in Lodz Ewa Niesiolowska. Ms. Ewa (how hers co-workers call her) worked in Museum of Lodz for almost 50 years and stared as assistant and finished as a curator. She was mostly interested in Mesolithic and Neolithic studies and was very friendly and helpful for us. She spend all Her professional life in Lodz Museum and we are sure that Ms Ewa deserves more than this short text.

Opis:
Small and medium-sized enterprises are the engines of market economies. In Poland, their position has been growing since the beginning of the transition, especially due to the fact that they stimulate economic growth, but also because they play an important role in the society. The paper shows the economic and social role of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Lodz Metropolitan Area (LMA). The analysis has been subjected to their size, ownership, legal forms, business sector structure, concentrati on in the LMA, average wages and the share of particular powiats and LMA in the employment during the global financial crisis. Due to the relatively large share of manufacturing in economic activities of SME, their branch structure in powiats has also been discussed. The analysis showed that SME in the LMA dominate, in terms of quantity, the rest of the Lodz voivodship, although their share in employment and investments is a bit less than 50%. The LMA residents are more entrepreneurial, both as compared to the Lodz voivodship and to the entire country. In all powiats of the LMA the main business activity is manufacturing. The Lodz powiat dominates in the LMA in terms of all analyzed indicators, i.e. the entrepreneurship of residents, the number of SMEs, their investments, the highest average wages and the share in employment, but the structure of the business, including manufacturing, does not differ from other the LMA powiats.

Trwające od kilku lat przebudzenie w zakresie rewitalizacji polskich miast, spowodowane w znacznej mierze napływem funduszy europejskich, daje nadzieję na ożywienie przestrzeni okaleczonych wieloletnią degradacją. Ten w założeniu kompleksowy proces odnowy obszarów kryzysowych, aby przyniósł oczekiwane rezultaty, powinien stać się swego rodzaju praktyką społeczną. Dotychczasowe doświadczenia pokazują jednak, że prowadzone działania rewitalizacyjne powodują również napięcia między mieszkańcami a innymi podmiotami podejmującymi interwencje w zdekapitalizowanych i dotkniętych marginalizacją obszarach miejskich. Ścieranie się społecznego i ekonomicznego żywiołu, któremu towarzyszy niezamierzona kolizja interesów i funkcji obszarów objętych odnową, może prowadzić do paradoksalnych efektów. Celem artykułu jest rozpoznanie i przedstawienie tych napięć, które zostały wywołane wybranymi działaniami podjętymi w ramach lokalnych programów rewitalizacji w przestrzeni Krakowa i Ł odzi w latach 2004–2013. Ukazanie dywergencji między materialnym a społecznym wymiarem rewitalizacji ma w założeniu wskazać źródła pojawiąjących się problemów oraz zasygnalizować konieczność większej spójności realizowanych projektów rewitalizacyjnych.
The revival of urban renewal in Polish cities, which for several years has been impacted by an inflow of European funds, gives hope for the regeneration of deprived areas. In order to achieve the expected results, this comprehensive process of urban renewal should become a type of social practice. However, previous experiences show that revitalization may also cause some tensions between residents and other actors involved in the actions undertaken in decapitalized and marginalized urban spaces. The clash of social and economic forces, which is accompanied by an unintended collision of interests and functions of revitalized areas, often leads to paradoxical effects. This paper presents these tensions which increased within the Local Revitalization Programs in Cracow and Lodz from 2004–2013. The analysis of the divergences between the social and material dimension of urban regeneration may help to indicate the main sources of emerging problems and draw attention to the necessity of greater coherence of different renewal projects.

This article is about audio description of works of art. The term audio description is defined at the beginning of the text, next there is a description of how AD began in the United States and in Poland. After that, the types of AD in works of art and the rules of its creating are presented. The following paragraphs are about translating paintings through the senses, that is the hearing (ekphrasis, soundpainting), the touch (miniature models, typhlographies, touch tours) the smell or the taste (specially prepared fragrance or taste composition). The article finishes with the author looking at AD in plastic arts in Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź and the Museum of the City of Łódź.

The article presents the results of research of 99 companies operating in Łodz region. The main objective of the research was to analyze companies behavior in commercialization process. Many aspects of commercialization were discovered, for example: innovation assessment, intellectual property protection, financing, commercialization strategies. The research shows that companies in Łodz create region are not innovative and they lack ability to create and implement innovations to the market. Most of the don’t creat innovations, don’t cooperate with R&D institutions, don’t use EU financial resources that are available for innovation.

The objective of this paper is to analyse and assess innovation activities of companies from the Lodz region. Its first part focuses on identification and ranking factors that impact innovation activities in companies based on the literature of the subject. The second part studies main areas of innovation activities of companies in the Lodz region based on the results of a questionnaire survey conducted in 2012 on a group of randomly selected 500 economic operators from the region. Innovation activities in companies in the region face numerous barriers resulting from both internal factors relating to the company and external circumstances in the surrounding environment. Lack of financial resources for the implementation of innovations is the top ranking barrier. The following are also mentioned: market barriers, barriers connected with production and production factors, employment and technical infrastructure, and finally barriers connected with access to information.

The article is the attempt to evaluate the business – science cooperation in the Lodz region on the basis of the research conducted among project titled “The Co-operation of Science and Business as a Factor Enhancing Innovativeness of the Lodz Region” co-financed from European Union under European Social Fund. The research findings indicate that cooperation between business and science spheres is not well developed yet. However, entrepreneurs perceive the cooperation with science as efficient and propose certain actions that should be undertaken to support this kind of ventures.

Położenie zwierciadła wód gruntowych uzależnione jest nie tylko od czynników meteorologicznych, ale przede wszystkim od własności hydrogeologicznych podłoża i miąższości strefy aeracji. W opracowaniu dokonano analizy relacji między zasilaniem atmosferycznym a reakcją zwierciadła wody gruntowej. W tym celu zbadano serie tygodniowych pomiarów głębokości do swobodnego zwierciadła wody gruntowej w dwóch studniach położonych w strefie miejskiej (Łódź) i zamiejskiej (Ciosny) oraz serie dobowych sum opadów atmosferycznych (Łódź-Lublinek, Ciosny) w latach 1999–2013. Stwierdzono, że w półroczu chodnym dominują wzniosy zwierciadła wody gruntowej, wywołane sumami opadów poniżej 10 mm tydzień–1. Latem natomiast przeważają spadki zwierciadła, a wzniosy są możliwe, gdy natężenie opadów przekracza 20 mm tydzień–1. Reakcja zwierciadła wody gruntowej w płytszej studni jest bardziej dynamiczna. W głębszej odnotowano niższą amplitudę wahań oraz wydłużenie czasu reakcji na zasilanie atmosferyczne. Wzniosy wywołane opadem o podobnej wysokości w płytszej studni są w przybliżeniu dwukrotnie wyższe niż w studni głębszej.
The level of the groundwater table depends not only on the weather conditions, but primarily on the hydrogeological properties of the substrate and the thickness of the aeration zone. The paper analyzes the relationship between precipit ation and the groundwater table level response. For this purpose, weekly datasets of groundwater table levels (Łódź and Ciosny sites) and daily precipitation totals (Łódź-Lublinek and Ciosny) were studied for the period 1999–2013. During the cold half of the year the increase of the groundwater table level was found for relatively small precipitation (< 10 mm per week). On the contrary, in the warm half of the year a much higher precipitation totals (> 20 mm per week) are required for that increase. For the shallower well (Łódź), the groundwater table level response to precipitation is more dynamic. In the deeper well (Ciosny) the lower fluctuations of amplitude and longer response to precipitation were noticed. For the same amount of precipitation, the increase in the groundwater table level for the shallower well is twice as high as for the deeper one.

Enterprises from the Lodz region which have been internationally active between 2005 and 2011 were generally more productive than those active onlylocally. When it comes to productivity, the best results were achieved by direct investors, importers (of investment and intermediate goods) and exporters. Productivity determined internationalization through FDI and imports. In case of exports there was no such relationship, known as self-selection and confirmed in many other studies. Aspects not included in the study have been deemed as decisive for becoming an exporter. Involvement with international markets was also the source of synergy, since operators who were internationally present in a multitude of platforms achieved the highest level of productivity in the region. They were also usually larger businesses with longer track record, often internationally owned, which better coped with the crisis in 2009–2011. They were also more rarely influenced by political affiliations of any kind. However, it would be difficult to clearly point to specific industries preferred by international players. The region did not have any specific specialization profile. Regional government should strive for having the biggest possible population of internationally present enterprises. It means it should offer preferences to potential exporters, importers and investors, regardless of the size of the business and its sector of activity. The purpose is best served by creating favorable conditions for enterprises and horizontal aid schemes.

Przedmiotem tego opracowania jest rozwój oraz struktura ludności województwa łódzkiego w okresie ponad stu ostatnich lat. Szczegółowej analizie podlegały przemiany ludnościowe tego regionu w czterech okresach: 1) do 1918 roku, 2) 1918–1945, 3) 1946–1989, 4) 1990–2018. Uwzględniono również prognozę demograficzną dla województwa do 2050 r. Strukturę ludności rozpatrywano, biorąc pod uwagę jej podział według cech demograficznych, społeczno-ekonomicznych, społeczno-kulturowych i przestrzennych. Zasadniczym celem pracy było ustalenie ogólnych tendencji w rozwoju i restrukturalizacji ludności województwa łódzkiego oraz jej typologii przestrzennej.
The subject of this study was the development and structural transformation of the population of the Łódź Voivodeship over the last more than one hundred years. Population transformations were analysed for four periods: 1) pre-1918; 2) 1918–1945; 3) 1946–1989; and 4) 1990–2018. A demographic forecast of the Łódź Voivodeship was made up to 2050. The structure of the population of the investigated region was considered, taking into consideration the population according to demographic, socio-economic and socio-cultural divisions and spatial features. The basic aim of the author was to establish general tendencies in the development and restructuring of the population of the Łódź region and its spatial typology.
