This article presents traffic safety statistics in the area of the EU. Changes in the number of deaths and injuries and the number of accidents have been reported since 2001, given the initiatives taken since this year to implement safety improvement programmes. The statistics on traffic accidents and the number of deaths in each EU country are presented. The situation concerning Poland among the EU countries is also presented by creating a classification that takes into account additional reference factors.

Opis:
Pedestrians are vulnerable road users; therefore, they require special attention. In the pedestrian infrastructure, the greatest risk involves pedestrian crossings because they are the conflict points with vehicular traffic. A method to assess pedestrian crossing infrastructure in terms of road safety is presented. The method involves observation of the associated infrastructure and environment, as well as measurements of vehicular and pedestrian behaviour. The assessment involved 17 pedestrian crossings along a main road in the town of Sułkowice, Poland, with the aim of demonstrating the universality of the procedure. Only two of the crossings were found to have the lowest risk, while five were considered as high risk; none was assigned the highest risk score.

The article discusses the level of road safety in the case of the city of Sosnowiec. Traffic safety was compared over a 11-year period from 2006 to 2016. The data were obtained from the municipal police headquarters in Sosnowiec. The authors of this publication created a graphical presentation of traffic incidents with their participants and causes. Numerical data have been presented, and separated into road accidents and collisions as well as injured and fatalities. The age and sex characteristics of the perpetrators of road accidents were presented. The QGIS program was also used for the analysis, which allowed us to map the most dangerous intersections in Sosnowiec.

Every year, a lot of people lose their lives and health on Polish roads, which at best ends up damaging the car. Resultantly, the high rate of accidents prompted this study in conjunction with the Poviat Police Headquarters in Piła to analyse road traffic safety in the Piła poviat. To this end, road events occurring in Poland and in the Piła poviat were analysed. In addition, the most common types of road incidents were identified alongside the main reasons for their occurrence. By analysing traffic incidents, a map of the most dangerous streets in Piła was created. A survey was conducted to verify the statistical data presented on the state of safety in the Piła poviat. The survey on road safety in the Piła poviat was created in cooperation with the Poviat Police Headquarters in Piła and was conducted among the residents of the Piła poviat. Inhabitants of the Piła poviat feel safe on the roads along the roads of their poviat.

Nieuniknione jest, że ta sytuacja będzie wpływać na wzrost liczby wypadków. Bardzo częstą przyczyną wypadków i kolizji jest niejasna, niewłaściwa i niedostateczna infrastruktura drogowa. W artykule zostaną poruszone kwestie związane z podejmowanymi działaniami w sferze infrastruktury drogowej, które mają bezpośredni wpływ na poprawę bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi pierwszą z dwóch części.
In recent years the number of road users has grown rapidly and due to that fact the traffic congestion has also increased. The economic development of the country is in favour of those tendencies and in the nearest future we will observe further increase in number of road users. As a result, the increase in number of accidents is unavoidable. The cause of accidents and collisions on the roads is often the vague, improper and insufficient road infrastructure. The article refers to issues connected with undertaken actions in reference to road infrastructure which have direct influence on road safety. This article is the first out of two parts.

Every year, many road accidents occur on Polish roads, in which many people lose their lives and health. Therefore, an attempt was made to analyze road accidents in the Piła poviat. The source of the analysis were the authors' observations and statistical data. This study was conducted on a sample of 250 inhabitants. Hence, a questionnaire was used. Most people, more than half, about 56%, travel by car because it is a more convenient and faster means of transport. While 35% of respondents stated that they feel relatively safe on the roads. A majority, 65%, of the respondents did not participate in a road accident. Further, 60% of the respondents replied that there were many accidents in the Piła poviat, and only 11% answered that there were not many accidents. According to the respondents, the biggest cause of the accidents is alcohol, inattention of drivers and haste. Despite the information, advertisements, scale of these accidents, and opinions of family and friends, people still drive under the influence of alcohol. Year by year, the number of accidents on the roads of the Piła poviat is low, but still considerably high. There is no best way to stop this from happening. In Piła itself, circular intersections have been introduced to improve safety, such an operation is one of the methods for smoother traffic. Additionally, in residential areas, there are more speed bumps to reduce the speed of vehicles. The conclusions obtained in this article can be successfully implemented, not only in other cities in Poland but also in Europe as well.

The article addresses solutions implemented in two cities, namely, Mexico City and Katowice, with the aim of improving road traffic safety. Despite the distance of more than 10,000 km separating the two cities, a comparison revealed many similar solutions having been implemented in both of them. This comparative case study is complemented with a collation of statistics pertaining to accidents, fatalities and injured persons as reported in the period 2012-2015.

Na stan bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego oddziałuje wiele składowych, wśród których najważniejszy jest człowiek. Jego wiedza na temat poprawnego zachowywania się w różnych sytuacjach, zarówno codziennych, jak i stanowiących konsekwencje kolizji czy wypadków drogowych, jest bardzo ważna. Działania informacyjne w wymienionym zakresie podejmują organizacje pozarządowe, które zajmują się upowszechnianiem zasad bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego, zasad pierwszej pomocy, udzielaniem wsparcia ofiarom wypadków drogowych. Realizacja tych celów nie byłaby możliwa bez posiadania odpowiednich zasobów finansowych. Artykuł przedstawia źródła finansowania organizacji pozarządowych pożytku publicznego, których celem lub jednym z celów są szeroko rozumiane działania na rzecz bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego.
Road safety is affected by many factors, the most important one being a human. His knowledge about the correct behaviour in different situations, both the everyday ones, and the ones being a consequence of collisions or traffic accidents, is very important. Information activities in the aforementioned scope are undertaken bynon-governmental organisations which deal with the dissemination of road safety rules, first aid rules, and providing support to victims of road safety accidents. Implementation of these objectives would not be possible without the appropriate financial resources. The paper presents the sources of financing non-governmental public utility organisations whose main purpose or one of the purposes are broadly understood traffic safety measures.

Life on the road with all its aftermath and consequences works as a big triangle: driver-road-car. The main cause of road accidents is driver who can´t cope with increase of traffic density and with more and more powerful cars. Increasing number of new vehicles on our roads shows certain economic power of Slovakia and improving standard of living. The annual growth of more than seventy thousand new cars has as a result overcrowded Slovakian road network. Because of this, there is a special attention given to road traffic safety and its various factor at the present not only in our country, but also in the European Union. By joining the European Union we are committed to achieve standards in all areas that are comparable with European developed countries. In our paper we would analyze accident rate of traffic in recent years in Slovakia and design telematic measures to reduce it.
Życie na drodze z wszystkimi jego skutkami i konsekwencjami działa jak wielki trójkąt: kierowca-droga-samochód. Główną przyczyną wypadków drogowych jest kierowca, który nie może poradzić sobie ze wzrostem natężenia ruchu i coraz lepszymi samochodami. Zwiększenie liczby nowych pojazdów na naszych drogach pokazuje pewną siłę gospodarczą Słowacji oraz poprawę standardu życia. Roczny wzrost o ponad siedemdziesiąt tysięcy nowych samochodów skutkuje przepełnieniem sieci drogowej Słowacji. Z tego powodu, obecnie nie tylko w naszym kraju, ale również w Unii Europejskiej, szczególną uwagę skupia się na bezpieczeństwo ruchu drogowego i jego różne czynniki. Przystępując do Unii Europejskiej, jesteśmy zobowiązani do osiągnięcia standardów we wszystkich dziedzinach, które są porównywalne z europejskimi krajami rozwiniętymi.

The friction brakes convert a significant part of a vehicle’s kinetic energy into thermal energy. Some of its parts is distributed to the places around the brakes, and another part is accumulated in several vehicle components. This article is focused on the measurement of temperature increase of selected vehicle components during re-deceleration. These components include brake discs, brake pads, calliper, wheel rim and tire side in the area of its bead and tread. The measurements were performed during the repeated braking of a fully-loaded vehicle according to ECE Regulation No 13 - type I.

This paper deals with fatal traffic accidents in the period 2017-2019, caused by drivers who have held driving licenses for less than five years. Specifically, it examines an interconnection between these accidents and the driving schools being completed by these drivers. Furthermore, it analyses whether the perpetrators of traffic accidents with short driving experience are graduates of the same driving schools, and thus, whether the occurrence of serious traffic accidents is directly related to the quality of training in specific driving schools.

W artykule przedstawiono nowe możliwości obliczeniowe programu do analiz bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego (BRD) Safe Province w wersjach 2.1 i 2.2. W ramach rozwoju programu, zmodyfikowano jego kod źródłowym, rozszerzając znacząco możliwości analizy stanu BRD w województwie śląskim. Program obecnie umożliwia prowadzenie badań, w których szczegółowo precyzuje się uczestników zdarzenia, rodzaj i stan techniczny pojazdów (v. 2.1) oraz wyznacza się linię trendu oraz funkcje regresji (v.2.2).
The paper presents new possibilities of the road safety analysis (BRD) in Safe Province program in version 2.1 and 2.2. As a development of the program, there was changed its source code, which has expanded significantly in the area of possibilities of analysis of the BRD in Silesia Region. The program enables now to conduct a research, in which there are specified in detail the participants of a road event, a type and technical condition of vehicles (v. 2.1) and calculate a trend line and regression functions (v.2.2).

Skip resistance of asphalt is an important parameter that can influence the safety of drivers on roads. Although there is a linear relationship between slipping on road surfaces and accidents, the impacts of pollutants for decreasing friction of roads is clear to researchers. Moisture and temperature influence friction and safety. In this research in SMA samples, three different gradations with the maximum nominal sizes of 19, 12.5 and 9.5, based on international standards were used. For polluting the surface, five materials that are found on roads were used, including fine-grained soil, sand, oil, soot and rubber powder. To measure the skip resistance, the British pendulum tester was used and for analysing macro-texture, the sand patch method was used. The results of this research showed that by increasing the maximum nominal size of aggregates, the depth of macro-texture in surfaces are grown and this is due to the decrease of fine aggregates in larger gradations. Because of the higher flexibility of pure bitumen, the applied compression pressure on rigid aggregates can cause indentations in the substrate and result in declining the roughness height of aggregates in the mixed surface. This leads to declining the hysteresis part of friction by increasing temperature.
