Opis:
Container traffic grew very fast and many ports have prepared infrastructure and superstructure for the container vessels. During the last decade, many of Eastern Baltic ports container terminals started working with container vessels and in the same time looked for the bigger container vessels with limited possible investments (1). In many ports are very limit space inside the ports and it make additional difficulties increase entry to the ports ships size. Container terminals usually are located in the middle or in the end parts of the ports and find enough space for the ships turning basins raise difficulties. Big container vessels navigational safety must be linked with ports infrastructure, but very often ports are orientated on the old standards and design recommendations, so are trying to keep big safety coefficients regarding water ways depths, widths, and hydrometeorological conditions limitations. Old standards did not include new accuracy navigational equipment such as RTK systems, which are implemented in many ports and increase navigational possibilities and navigational safety. This paper addresses the theoretical approach of the influence of new big container vessels sailing within ports areas, namely ships turning basins, possibilities and navigational safety of the ships, which have big wind surface and good manoeuvrability.
Artykuł stanowi teoretyczne ujęcie żeglugi nowych kontenerowców w obszarze basenów portowych, omawia bezpieczeństwo i możliwości nawigacyjne statków o dużych gabarytach i dobrej sterowności.

Opis:
The article addresses the issue of the transport of goods on the Oder Waterway (Odrzańska Droga Wodna, ODW), in terms of its usefulness for the transport of containers in the face of limitations arising from the hydrotechnical conditions of the river and the modernisation programme. A realistic estimate leads to the conclusion that by 2030 the CEMT Class III classification may be achieved in the upper and middle sections. Combined river and land transport of containers has been proposed as an applicable solution, considering the present condition and the predicted development and modernisation of the waterway within the next years. The main feature of this transportation concept is the principle of transporting multiple layers of containers on inland ships, reducing the cost of transport of individual containers. Sections of the ODW that meet the parameters of the CEMT Class III, or higher, will be used in such a way. In points of contact with sections that do not meet those parameters, loading points will be organised where the upper layers of containers will be removed from the barge and transferred either to land transport or a loading barge capable of going under low bridges. The article presents analysis of the effect of the main parameters of the river and land system of container transport on its economic effectiveness. Those parameters are: the number of layers of containers on a barge, percentage of the entire route covered by land transport means, number and time of transhipments, and speed relations. Relationships between these parameters have been established, together with the principles of their selection, assuming the main criterion to be gaining profit by using combined transport in comparison with land transport. Examples of combined transport have been presented on the Gliwice–Świnoujście and Gliwice– Hamburg routes, including progress in modernizing the Middle Oder.

Opis:
Globalization poses new challenges, while also providing development opportunities for strong and dynamic enterprises and new sectors which shape the world markets and economy and contribute to a more global approach to business activities. The business activities undertaken in each country depend on a number of factors, and these factors are often similar due to globalization, though their impacts appear to vary. In addition, changes in economies progress at different speeds, thus this article aims to determine how the impact of change in the global economy influences transformations in ownership in container shipping. The organization and operation of global container shipping is shaped by numerous external factors, i.e. economic, geographical, and political factors. The impact of these factors varies depending on the specific aspect of the container shipping industry being discussed. This paper was motivated by the need to determine the container fleet size and ownership structure in container shipping, and whether these are changing as the industry evolves. The stated aim of this research requires the use of statistical methods and a literature review to allow for a comparative study of the size and ownership relations in container shipping.

Opis:
In computing, the Least Significant Bit (LSB) is the bit position in a binary integer giving the units value, that is, determining whether the number is even or odd. We do not use this format. In conventional Intel bit ordering, the Most Significant Bit (MSB) is numbered 7 and the least significant bit (LSB) is numbered 0: 2⁷ (MSB) 2⁶ 2⁵ 2⁴ 2³ 2² 2¹ 2⁰ (LSB) D = d7 d6 d5 d4 d3 d2 d1 d0 For example, if on the record of number D = 131 = 10000011 we invert the MSB = 1 into MSB = 0, then obtain D = 00000011 = 3, but if we invert LSB = 1 into LSB = 0, then distortions are considerably fewer: D = 10000010 = 130. It is common to assign each bit a position number, ranging from zero to N – 1, where N is the number of bits in the binary representation used. Normally, this is simply the exponent for the corresponding bit weight in base-2 (such as in 2⁷, 2⁶, …, 2¹, 2⁰). In this article to reduce the stego-errors we use a pair of numbers D₁ and D₂ and a pair of corresponding LSB d₁,₀ and d₂,₀.

During ship design, service speed is one of the crucial parameters in determining the operational economy of the vessel. As sufficiently exact calculation methods applicable to preliminary design stage are lacking, the so-called contract speed, the speed which a ship reaches in calm water, is usually cited. Żelazny (2015) developed a parametric method for calculating total ship resistance under actual weather conditions (wind, waves, sea current). This paper presents a parametric model of a ship’s propulsion system (screw propeller – propulsion engine) as well as a method, based on both the resistance and propulsion system models, of calculating the mean statistical value of a ship’s service speed under the seasonal weather conditions occurring on shipping lines. The method makes use only of basic design parameters, and may be applied in preliminary design phase of container ships.

The article presents an original two-stage simulation method for the optimization of seaport parameters. Presentation of the method is based on example of parameter optimization of the outer container port in Świnoujście. Presented method uses two limitations of the objective function related to safety of manoeuvring and mooring of ships. It consist of two stages, first one is carried out for the parameters defined in the preliminary stage of design. On the basis of results from this stage, layout and other parameters of port waterways can be adjusted to satisfy assumed safety criteria. The second stage uses the parameters established in the first stage. It allows for small adjustments which will not change the safety of manoeuvring. The result of second stage is optimal parameters of the examined port waterways.

Hydrodynamic shape optimization plays an increasingly important role in the shipping industry. To optimize ship hull and propeller shapes for minimum total (friction+wave) calm-water resistance and maximum open water efficiency, respectively, the main particulars of a hull and propeller model are considered as design variables. The optimization problem is performed by using an integrated hull-propeller system optimization problem (HPSOP) code in a multi-level and multi-point methodology in early-stage ship design. Three numerical methods with variable fidelity are employed to carry out the hydrodynamic performance analysis of a ship’s hull and propeller. A ship and its propeller are selected as initial models to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed optimization procedure. The numerical results show that the developed technique is efficient and robust for hydrodynamic design problems.

Statistical methods are used to analyze the market of robotic automation and the perspective for unmanned technology introduction. Simulation modeling of inland container terminal operation with various types of equipment, to study the applicability of robotic automation. The choice of modeling equipment results from the impossibility of completing an experiment on the real object, difficulties of analytical modeling (the system contains casual relations, nonlinear logic, stochastic variables), and the necessity to analyze the system’s time behavior. Consideration of robotic automation in a terminal warehouse complex is of particular importance due to technological progress followed by the freight terminal to be an area with highly organized technological processes and the need for highly paid specialists.

Recently, technological advancements, globalization, ongoing mergers and acquisitions, and intense competition have dominated the container shipping industry. This situation has led to the formation of major container shipping lines with similar technologies, offering the same service. In such an environment, a strategic competitive advantage is no longer entirely dependent on the basic features of the service provided and customer relationships, which is more difficult to replicate, has gained importance. Container shipping lines must develop customer-centric relationship marketing strategies that cover the whole organization and marketing activities to survive, and maintain their profitability, in the current competitive environment of the industry. However, these strategies and their implementation are not precisely defined in the container shipping industry. Therefore, this study explores the relationship marketing strategies that are practiced in the container shipping industry. Data is collected via 22 semi-structured interviews with container shipping partners (i.e. container shipping lines and freight forwarders). Loyalty programs and relationship pricing are the most often mentioned relationship marketing strategies that foster customer loyalty in these interviews.

This paper seeks to highlight the impact of the increasing container throughput in northern Adriatic ports on air quality. A comparative analysis of air quality is given, which consist of certain environmental parameters at selected measuring stations near the container terminals of the northern Adriatic ports Rijeka, Trieste, Koper, and Venice. The parameters were analyzed based on a limited amount of air quality monitoring data for the port areas. As the port transport sector increases pollutant emissions, the results of these analyzes can also be used to take appropriate measures to reduce these particulate matter emissions. The aim of this paper is to determine the impact of increasing the container throughput within the ports of the northern Adriatic Sea on air quality, based on certain environmental parameters related to the shipping or delivery of containers by road. The results of the research, based on available data, have shown that the increase in container throughput of the northern Adriatic ports has not decreased the air quality of urban areas of the respective port cities. The air quality value of the northern Adriatic ports is substantially below the limits set by the EU Air Quality Directive (2008/50), thus it does not affect the health of the inhabitants of the analyzed cities.
