Opis:
Entamoeba moshkowskii was examined for the sensitivity to 14 salts of N-halogenamides of azobenzene sulphonic (I), p-chlorbenzenesulphonic (II), p-azobenzenesulphonic (III) and p-azobenzenedisulphonnic (IV) acids. The lethal doses of the compounds for 50% of Entamoeba were compared, after 10 minutes, with LD₅₀ of phenol. All halogenamides under examination were found to exert a stronger action than that of phenol. The lethal dosis of phenol for 50% of individuals was about 4-218 times higher than the doses of N-halogenamides. Among the salts of N-halogenamides of various acids the greatest killing effect on Entamoeba was exerted by the derivatives of p-azobenzenesulphonic, and the weakest by p-azobenzenedisulphonic acid. In the previous some of these compounds were found to possess treponemacidal and mycostatic properties.

Opis:
Introduction. Helminth eggs are usually common in the soil of playgrounds, visited not only by children, but also by dogs and cats. Their feaces are the main source of pathogens dangerous for humans. The aim of this study was to examine which species of helmiths occur in the playgrounds of the Lębork town, as well to determine the level of infection of domestic animals living in the regions under study. Materials and methods. Samples of sand were taken from a surface of sandpits (up to the depth of about 3 cm) and from the depth of about 20 cm, as well as from adjanced areas. All samples were collected in amount of 100 g. Animal feaces were collected from various places of playgrounds. Two methods were apllied: flotation and decantation by Fulleborn−Willis in modification by Wójcik. Results. Helminth eggs were found in 14% of sand samples and in 42% of faeces. As much as seven helminth species were determined. The most common were the eggs of Toxocara spp. (28% in sand and 32% in faeces). In our studies we have not found any dependence between the places of sample collecting and the degree of soil contamination. On the other hand we have noticed the greater number of helmint eggs in spring and summer months than in remaining seasons of the year.

Opis:
Introduction. Nematodes of Toxocara genus are common parasites of dogs and cats. These animals are the main source of dangerous zoonoses. The main source of toxocarosis among children are sandpits which are contaminated with dog and cat faeces. We examined the contamination of playgrounds with parasite eggs in Gdańsk city, and frequency of infections of dogs and cats in the area under study. Material and methods. Samples of sand were taken from a surface of sandpits (to depth about 3 cm). All samples were collected in amount of 100 g. Samples of faeces were taken from various places of the playgrounds. Two methods were applied: flotation and decantation by Fülleborn−Willis in modification by Wójcik. Results. Out of 162 sand samples examined 21 (13%) were positive. Out of 54 faeces samples examined 23 (42.6%) were positive. We observed some differences in the degree of parasite species occurrence. The most dominated were Toxocara spp. (6.2% in sand samples and 11% in faeces samples) and Toxascaris leonina (11% in faeces). Eggs of Uncinaria stenocephala and Ancylostoma canimum, as well as proglotides of Dipylidium caninum were found sporadically.
