Opis:
While searching for the ways of enhancing students’ educational efficiency, the authors set the framework for the issue from two perspectives-educational and emotional, stressing the existence of a strong interdependence between emotional and cognitive ones. The focus of study is students’ perception of educational processes, the emotional states they demonstrate and their interdependence. For the purpose of this research a battery of questionnaires was constructed and the results have shown that students’ emotional states greatly influence their perception of educational efficiency. Based on these results, the recommendation on modifying the management of educational processes is that students’ emotional states should not be excluded from the equation of a successful education. The factors that shape the emotional context of learning should be taken into account.

Despite a high number of studies on students’ images of scientists, there is a lack of research on gifted students’ perceptions of scientists in the research literature. The aim of this study was to investigate gifted students’ perceptions of scientists and stereotypical images of scientists. The participants were 42 gifted students. The Draw-a-Scientist Test (DAST) was used to collect data. The findings demonstrated that gifted students had a variety of stereotypical images of scientists. The findings also showed that students’ drawings included fewer indicators of the stereotypic model on average. The drawings of fourth-grade students included more elements when compared to fifth-grade students’ drawings. As a result, it was found that there are some findings different from previous research. Considering the findings obtained from this study, this study has provided findings for teachers and science educators.

TMMS
Opis:
TMMS and MSCEIT are the most frequently used tools to assess emotional intelligence. TMMS is a questionnaire to self-evaluate emotional skills, and MSCEIT is a test to measure emotional intelligence. Given that both are used equally, we examined the relationship between their dimensions. A sample of 252 adults was selected from higher education institutions. MSCEIT and TMMS-24 were administered and ANOVA and Pearson correlation analyses were conducted. The MSCEIT Managing Emotions branch was the only area that discriminates among participants. A new combined tool to assess EI is proposed in this study.

Opis:
This article shows specifics of the transition from conventional educational practice to the Flipped classroom model in modern education system. It is focused on professors’ perception of the video-based teaching approach. Conducted sociological survey involves the teaching staff from one European and one Russian university, namely the Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) and Ural Federal University (URFU). The survey investigated professors’ awareness of the Inverted classroom, their readiness to employ it and prime barriers they face. Results reveal that teachers from Russia have less information about the model and practically do not embed it in the education arrangement comparing to professors from Finland. Lack of time, lack of support and assistance are shown to be the prime barriers preventing them from fl ipped classroom implementation. Drawn implications are of use for the integration of the fl ipped classroom.

Opis:
The labour market in any field becomes more and more demanding and specialized, professional. For a more efficient absorption of graduates, the professional environment requires both advanced theoretical knowledge and practical abilities. During the study period, based on rational mechanisms, students form a perception related to the probability of finding an adequate job. In this article we model the constructed perceptions through Ordered Logit models. The application regards 88 students from two Romanian universities. The programme they are involved in is called “The Audit and Financial Management of European Funds”. The results obtained are in accordance with the logical mechanisms evidenced in the theoretical part. The explanatory variables that are statistically significant relate both to the scholarly results and to the student’s status on the labour market. The conclusions drawn are not limited only to the evaluated sample. They are easy to generalize, with necessary changes, to any university specialization.

Anhui is one of the leading knowledge-based regions of China, which relies on academic research innovation. This publication aims to present the factors that influence of plagiarism on Chinese students and also explores the common perceptions of students themselves on the idea and act of plagiarism in higher level education environments. The literature provided identifies two major facets of plagiarism, which are both internal and external factors. Qualitative evidence from students demonstrates that both internal and external factors encourage Chinese students to plagiarize during their studies due to the availability of the internet (ICT and Web), lack of teaching expertise, poor academic skills, pressure from family members and peer groups, and financial constraints. It was also found that personal pride played a significant role in catalyzing the decision to plagiarize. On the basis of the said literature and qualitative evidence, the authors provide relevant recommendations about overcoming the concerns of students regarding plagiarism at the university level.

The article attempts to solve the problem of updating higher education content to form a modern worldview of the individual through the interdisciplinary course “Biophilosophy”. Biophilosophical knowledge and cognition content is studied at the fundamental and applied levels using methods of description, explanation, and analysis. The obtained results make it possible to formulate conclusions and perspectives regarding updating the content of philosophical knowledge in higher education, where biophilosophy can be a new worldview paradigm for preserving human culture and civilisation.

The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of a 23-item scale preliminarily entitled the “Elementary Student Coding Attitudes Survey” (ESCAS) from a Rasch perspective. The ESCAS includes five latent constructs to assess attitudes: coding confidence, interest, utility, perceptions of coders, and social value using Item Response Theory [IRT]. The item summary statistics, person summary statistics, item misfit statistics, and category structure statistics were examined for each component. In examining the five constructs separately, the measure had above average psychometric properties with no misfitting items and higher internal-consistency reliability.

Space exploration is currently gaining momentum. This interest is crucial for attracting students to space sciences. We present the results of a qualitative and quantitative study on space exploration perception among university students. Our study showed that participants are interested in space sciences, but their intention to engage in space education is low. Female and male students did not differ in terms of general attitude and interest in space and were equally (not) likely to engage in space education and career. Our findings have practical value for designing interventions to enhance students’ engagement in space education.

In Slovenian schools pupils have few opportunities to observe, understand and enjoy works of art. Contemporary art education in Slovenia should aim to combine the development of productive and receptive artistic abilities. This would make more comprehensive artistic development of pupils possible. In this study we monitored the development of the art-appreciation abilities of 10–11-year old pupils in primary schools in northeastern Slovenia. Th e results show that the level of art-appreciation abilities is somewhat average, however, girls showed higher developed art-appreciation abilities than boys. Based on the results we can conclude that the development of art appreciation abilities in our art-education program is given too little attention.

The aim of the research is to define individual psychological traits of adolescents that influence the formation of their self-perception. An empirical study was conducted on the basis of general education schools, boarding schools for the hearing impaired students and orphanages of the Kharkiv region (Ukraine). The study included 86 children. In accordance with this aim empirical methods were applied: Self-perception profile for adolescents (SPPA), Freiburg Multifactorial Personality Questionnaire (FPI), An Adolescent’s Character Traits Questionnaire, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. It has been found that self-perception of general education school students is determined by depressiveness, shyness, extroversion, and stuck type of accentuation; in adolescents with hearing impairments - friendliness, reactive aggressiveness, extroversion, emotive and anxiety types of accentuation; in orphans - pedantic and dysthymic types of character accentuation.

Though it is laborious to examine the culture of the school, researchers have been endeavouring to empirically apprehend it since the 1960’s. A variety of research jobs have been carried out, of various starting points, ways of materialisation, and conclusions. The present text indicates a way of classifying these studies according to the purposes they had been assigned. Though the list of examples is not entirely complete nor is the classification definite, a conclusion is clear and evident: in most cases, the culture of the school is not examined in order to grasp this culture itself. Much more often, the culture of the school is examined as a starting point, a pre-condition, or a tool to explore another object of the researcher’s interest outside the culture itself, such as the quality and evaluation of the school’s overall performance, the quality of the learning process, or the school’s developmental potential.
