Gods Doomed to Death. Psalm 82 as a Testimony of the Birth of Monotheism

Opis:
The paper examines the beginnings of biblical monotheism. The author indicates the period of the Babylonian exile as the moment of the emergence of this idea in Israel. Psalm 82 is interpreted here as a testimony to the monotheistic transformation. The author advocates a literal understanding of the content of the psalm, as an image of the judgement over pagan gods, which ended in their condemnation to death. The reason for this dethronement of the entire pantheon is the permanent inability of the gods to ensure justice on earth. According to the psalmist, it is a feature of the only true God, which is the God of Israel, called upon to take power over the whole earth.

Opis:

Opis:
Tob 13:2 is found in the context of the hymn of praise of Tobit in Tobit 13. The chapter contains a Zion Song in 13:9-18 addressed to Jerusalem, similar to those found especially in Ap Zion (11QPsa XXII 1-15]) and Bar 4:30-5:9. The latter two do not have the idea of resurrection that appears in Tob 13:2, which in its immediate context (v. 1-8) is closely connected with 13:9-18. The paper aims at providing an overview of Tobit 13 in the context of the book and in relation to Ap Zion (11QPsa XXII 1-15) and Bar 4:30–5:9, while summing up the most important differences of the three Zion songs and attempting to explain the presence of the idea of resurrection in Tobit 13. The main arguments are as follows: the appearance of the concept of resurrection in relation to that of God’s kingship in proximity to a Zion song has to do – among others – with the characteristic content of Tobit’s and his family’s storyline in Tobit 1–12 and with the concern to combine notions of national and personal fate. The study refers to some of the scriptural influences on Tobit 13 and their significance, and treats the questions of the author’s view on God’s kingship, authority and on retribution at a national and individual level.

Spirit of holy gods
Opis:
The Aramaic expression ”rûah.’ĕlāhîn qaddîszîn” is commonly translated, following Heronymus’ Vulgate as „spirit of holy gods”. It has also a more profound sense, as pointed by the context of Dn 4, 5. It says that a prophet takes a particular part in the gifts of God and knows the hidden sense of events. Such an understanding of the „holy spirit” prepares for the reception of the whole of revelation in the Books of the New Testament.

The author of the article presents at first a literary specificity of the text 1 Tm 6:11-16. Next within the exegesis he explains the encouragement towards the trully Christian life (v. 11-12) and the role that performs in it the motive of Christ’s epiphany (v. 15-16) along with the solemn doxology in the honour of God (v. 15-16). The appeal to the truth about God who is the only Ruler, King and God, as well as to the epiphany of Christ should encourage the addressee of the letter 1 Tm to build persistently in the name of Christ the Kingdom of God which He in His ultimate revelation will deliver for ever to God the Father.

Opis:
The purpose of the essay is to study the theological meaning of the verses Gen. 49, 3-17. 19-27. The conducted research shows that they contain lively, numbered among the crucial ones, historio-salutary ideas, including the Messianic ones. Their leading theological message, seen in its general outline by looking at it through the closest literary context of the verses (I), finds its detailed meaning, which is deepened, when one looks into its structure (II), and finally in its content (III). It can be formulated as follows:− owing to God’s Providence the once separate tribal societies unified into a monolithic community of the people of Jhwh, however, keeping its individuality;− the individuality is expressed in, among others, each member of Israel having a mission to accomplish, a mission given to him by God himself;− Juda’s vocation appears exceptional, when viewed against other ones, as it remains in direct relation with realizing God's plan of salvation;− the aim of the plan is removing the sin and its results as well as introducing universal peace and happiness

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to present the truth of God and his plan for Israel as it is shown in Psalm 105 and 106. The article is divided into three main parts. As the first step is given general characteristic of both texts. In the second and third is proposed detailed analyse of the psalmic understanding of God and his plan for Israelites. The end of the article consists of conclusion which takes into account the message of both texts read as continuum. In light of the psalms God is mainly seen as faithful to the covenant with Abraham (Ps 105) and full of graciousness towards his people (Ps 106). His plan for Israel is its existence in the Promised Land seen as a place free of foreign influence and managed by God’s laws.

Opis:
The present article discusses Sirach’s original concept of wisdom as presented in the first pericope of his book. It is argued that Sir 1:1-10 functions as the opening pericope that introduces the subject matter to be developed later in the book. The structure of the original version of Sir 1:1-10 (G-I) is lucid: the pericope can be divided into two halves of exactly the same length (verses 1-4 and 6-10). The textual additions in G-II recension disrupted the symmetry of the pericope but did not alter its meaning. The first part of the pericope focuses on the origins of wisdom and its relation to the created world, while the second part shows wisdom to be inaccessible in any other way than as God’s gift for his creatures, especially the people who love him. Sir 1:1-4 emphasizes the distance between wisdom and people, which is gradually reduced in the second part of the pericope (vv. 6-10). Due to God’s intervention wisdom is transformed from a distant and inaccessible entity to one close to human beings. As an intermediary between God and people, it brings people closer to God, yet it is not an inherent part of their nature, but rather Yahweh’s gift to them.
