    Opis:
    The article attempts to analyse B. Lohvynenko’s and A. Chapai’s online-travelogues. The specifi city of the character-traveller endowed with the transcultural identity within the boundaries of their country under the conditions of globalized society has been traced. The occurrence of the opposition “own / strange” in the wanderings of B. Lohvynenko and A. Chapai has been investigated. Other ways of construing travellers’ national identity have been shown. The formation of the traveller’s national identity in B. Lohvynenko’s travelogue by means of national stereotypes cultivation has been analysed. Moreover, the construction of the character’s identity in A. Chapai’s travel-blog by the destruction of stereotypes has been considered.

    The article deals with the graphic design of the “Ukrainian Calendar” – an annual publication that was issued by the Ukrainian community in Poland in the period 1957–1988. Different communication and stylistic constructions were designed to represent national identity in a number of ways. Folk art patterns would illustrate a rich tradition, adding a ‘peasant’ connotation at the same time. Traditional costumes from Central Ukraine, Cossack in particular, would communicate the idea of national unity. Graphic quotations from manuscripts and early printed books as well as historical forms of the Cyrillic alphabet would describe Ukraine’s great history and cultural development through the centuries. Motifs from Kyiv Rus and Cossack art would remind viewers of the tradition of state-building. Concerning the overall style of the publication, there were symmetrically balanced and pattern-decorated layouts as well as the dynamic positioning of stylized elements. Several issues of the Calendar demonstrate attempts to modernize the national image. With ‘op-art’, ‘pop-art’ and ‘international style’ designs they shape Ukrainian identity as being contemporary and global. Generally, the publication illustrates the tensions between the traditional and modern; it is also a ‘hybrid’ between Diaspora and Soviet periodicals of the time.

    This article explores the social and cultural life of the historical circumstances of the Cossack Hetmanate under the rule of Hetman Danylo Apostol in the 1727–1734. Based on lesser-known archival and published sources the main forms of cultural and spiritual life of Ukraine in the very time period is highlighted: education, literature, church building. Particular attention is paid to cultural policy, main areas of cultural and spiritual development and features of the Hetmanate cultural space in the context of adaptation or confrontation of the autonomous Cossack Ukraine vis-à-vis policy of centralization and incorporation of the newly emerging Russian Empire. Iinternal connections and patterns of Ukrainian cultural process in the late Baroque, its role and place in the formation of Ukrainian national identity are traced.

    Стаття присвячена постаті відомого українського мовознавця, доктора філологічних наук, професора, поета, Заслуженого працівника освіти України Анатолія Поповського та його науковим надбанням, зокрема монографії "Дещиця про українські прізвища" (2020), яка висвітлює проблему походження питомих українських прізвищ, їхнього функціонування у сфері бізнесу, у художніх текстах та сучасних медіа. Це енциклопедія про пам’ять предків та долю України, про національну самосвідомість та самоповагу. У ній подано детальний аналіз семантики українських прізвищ із цікавими лексичними компонентами, загострено проблему їхньої деформації в Російській імперії та за радянських часів, що зрештою призвело до підміни культурних цінностей та ідеології. Наукова праця А. Поповського – це своєрідний „лайфхак” з відродження „сили й краси козаків”. Зазначена монографія – це історія українського народу в прізвищах, починаючи від сімейних традицій і закінчуючи позитивними та негативними подіями та явищами державного рівня. Проблема комплексного вивчення прізвищ, а також номінацій сіл, селищ, міст та районів з метою відтворення географії й історії української антропонімії в синхронії та діахронії потребує продовження й популяризації як у межах освітнього процесу, так і через сучасні засоби масової інформації, що є важливим джерелом формування громадської думки.
    The article deals with the figure of famous Ukrainian linguist, doctor of philology, professor, poet, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, Anatoliy Popovsky and his scientific achievements, in particular the monograph “A little bit about Ukrainian surnames” (2020) is devoted to the problem of the origin and creation of Ukrainian surnames, their functioning in business, works of art and journalism. It is an encyclopedia about the ancestral memory and destiny of Ukraine, national identity and self-respect. It provides a detailed analysis of the semantics of Ukrainian surnames with interesting lexical components, highlights the issue of their deformation in the Russian Empire and in Soviet times, resulting in the substitution of cultural values and ideology. A. Popovsky’s scientific work is a “life hack” on the revival of “Cossacks’ power and beauty”. The monograph is a history of the Ukrainian people in surnames, starting from family traditions and ending with positive and negative phenomena at the state level. The issue of studying surnames, as well as nominations of villages, settlements, cities, and districts to reproduce the geography and history of the Ukrainian anthroponymy in synchrony and diachrony needs to be comprehensively proceeded and popularized in the educational process and contemporary mass media as important sources of the formation of public opinion.

    The article shows that archaic language is one of the components and methods of the detection of historical memory of Ukrainians. The analysis of the use of such elements in Old Ukrainian literary language of the 14-18th centuries., in Ukrainian literary language of the 19-20th centuries and in modern Ukrainian dialects has proved “Ukrainianness” of some archaic elements of the Ukrainian language, which are perceived by the language awareness of the modern Ukrainian as elements of the Russian language rather than the elements of its national identity in the diachronic dimension, as these words do exist in the modern Russian literary language, while in the New Ukrainian literary language they are replaced by other lexemes. It is shown that such archaisms in the language awareness of educated Ukrainians, including writers, acquire additional connotations and update their historical memory.

    The article is devoted to the study of value systems which determine the sacred dimension of the socio-cultural experience of the people. Sacramental is considered not in the religious context, but as the highest value that lies outside the understanding. Sacramental is an indicator of the state of culture. The change in the social environment, ideological orientations (which is inherent to immigrants at one time or another) causes a change in sacred values. It is proved that, having fallen into an inocultural environment, a person strives to preserve their national identity, which helps to get „rooted” in the new place. It also provides preserving their unique image in the alien socio-cultural environment and guarantees a sense of security, stability, cultural uprooting. In the works of Canadian authors of Ukrainian origin, the sacred space of the individual’s personal existence is determined by the higher spiritual values created by his own people; and hence – is formed due to the sensation of religious representations, the fatherland’s land of Ukraine, the native language, elements of national culture and history, common national myths, historical memory.

Wychodzi z podejścia teoretycznego dotyczącego zagadnień tożsamości i narodu w ujęciu współczesnych nauk społecznych i humanistycznych, bazujących na pojęciu dyskursu i dyskursywnego budowania narracji. Dalej autorka porusza obszary przenikania się dyskursu tożsamościowego dotyczącego kwestii językowej z polityką i sferą publiczną w Ukrainie. Porusza także kwestie zmian językowych w obszarze społecznym przytaczając badania i statystyki. Praca jest ciekawą i wartościową pozycją na rynku wydawniczym, szczególnie dla osób zainteresowanych omawianymi zagadnieniami.
    This article is a review of the book 'Identity discourse of Ukraine after the Revolution of Dignity through the prism of the language issue' by Nadia Gergalo-Dabek. In the book under review, the author tackles the difficult language issue in Ukraine and its relation to the politics and society of the country. She starts from a theoretical approach concerning the issues of identity and nation in terms of contemporary social sciences and humanities, based on the notion of discourse and discursive narrative construction. Further on, the author addresses the areas of interpenetration of identity discourse concerning the language issue with politics and the public sphere in Ukraine. She also touches upon the issues of language change in the social sphere citing research and statistics. The work is an interesting and valuable item on the publishing market, especially for those interested in the issues discussed.
