Opis:
The Smolensk Lakeland National Park is situated north of Smoleńsk in the NW Russia. Its morphology is associated with the last European ice sheet: glacial erosion and accumulation, glacial water activity, locally with the so-called thermokarst process or karst in the strict sense. The post-glacial morphological depressions are filled with lake waters. The most interesting lakes are: Chistik, Mutnoye, Balshoye and Maloye Striechnoye, Glubokoye, Dolgoye, Krugloye, Pietrovskoye, Bukino, Gorodishche, Svyatec, Sapsho, Polovia, Gniloye, Rytoye, Dgo, Shchuch’ye, Baklanovskoye, Bachovskoye, Vervizhskoye, Pal’tsevskoye and Bieloye. The Smolensk Lakeland National Park is one of a few territories in Europe where the beauty of nature and landscapes dominate the long-standing human presence. Nowadays, there are a few residents, a growing number of patients, seasonal campers and tourists in the park area.

Opis:
The area of the Świętokrzyski National Park is one of the most evident examples of structural morphology in Poland. Its relief is clearly determined by bedrock lithology: the hill ranges are composed of hard quartzitic sandstones of the upper Cambrian (Łysogóry Range) and the Lower Devonian (Klonowskie Range), while the depressions, usually vast and flat-bottomed, are distributed on outcrops of soft, easily weathered and eroded Ordovician and Silurian shales, greywackes and sandstones. The parallel pattern of hill ranges and depressions, as well as a mesh-grid pattern of river valley systems and the antecedent character of river gaps, reflects fold tectonics modified by transverse faults. Such a morphology developed during the Paleogene and Neogene under hot and then warm, gradually cooling climatic conditions. In the Pleistocene, principally under the periglacial conditions, block fields (symbols of the Świętokrzyski NP) and crags (crests, table-like forms, cupolas and spurs) were formed. The shape and spatial position of most crags are related to geological structures.

The Certificate of National Geopark for the Karkonosze National Park with its buffer zone reflects the policy of the Ministry of Environment, which aims to create a network of national geoparks in Poland. It is also a consequence of conducting by the Karkonosze National Park the project "Geosites inventory and assessment in the Karkonosze National Park and its buffer zone, including preparation of the geological map of the area", which provided solid scientific basis for the recognition of Karkonosze Mts. as national geopark. The certificate highlights the geodiversity of the Karknosze Mts., which parallels its biodiversity values and is decisive for the great attractiveness of the area among the scientists and visitors alike. Features such as mountain-top planation surfaces, glacial cirques, granite tors, and waterfalls have been invariably listed as the key elements of geoheritage of the Karkonosze Mts. Less obvious, but no less important are various mineralogical localities, exposures of granite and metamorphic rock which provide insights into the nature of igneous and rock deformation processes in the Palaeozoic era, peat bogs bearing record of palaeoenvironmental change, and remains on past mining and mineral prospecting. Geodiversity of the Karkonosze Mts. is well-documented in dozens of scientific publications, but also also consistently exposed by the Karkonosze National Park and other institutions, through wide-ranging activities of popularizing geoheritage of these mountains.

The presence of mineral forms of nitrogen in the ground waters of the Kampinoski National Park (KPN) varies considerably. The research results have shown that during the nitrogen changes within the active exchange zone, nitrification processes prevail in the KPN area and the surroundings. Denitrification processes occurs as second-rate mainly to the swamp environment. The type and intensity of specific processes depends on the genesis of the environment concerned, the content of oxygen and redox conditions. The analysis of the concentration of mineral nitrogen forms can be used to asses the degree of anthropopressure in the area of the park itself and its protection zone.

The purpose of this paper is to describe the variability of the chemical characteristics of springwater in the Marków Potok catchment. Five springs were selected for research purposes. The research was performed in spring and summer 2013 and 2014. Ca was found as the most common cation, HCO3 was the most common anion and NO3 was dominated in the biogenic compounds in the analysed springwater. Comparing the period of spring and summer the highest values of most of the chemical characteristics of water occurred in the summer, the lowest in the spring. It was found that chemical properies of water springs were shaped by the diverse geological structure of the catchment area, climatic conditions, the process of dilution and the biological activity of the basin.

Opis:
Groundwater in the Kampinoski National Park (KPN) area is usually of fresh and ultrafresh type with mineralisation lower than 493.36 mg/dm3. The variation of groundwater types is mainly caused by low ability of the system to buffer the acid accumulation and contamination as well as by the lack of isolation. The aim of the monitoring system at the KPN is to prevent anthropogenic contamination of the system. Geochemical modeling is one of the most important elements of the monitoring. Description of geochemical speciations present in groundwater can be used for characterizing a variation of groundwaters’ natural and athropogenic chemistry. Not only speciation modeling (which can reveal speciation of particular elements in groundwater) should be a part of monitoring system, but also inverse modeling, allowing us to reconstruct processes cocurring in the system and their intensity.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to identify hydrogeochemical processes controlling chemical composition of groundwater of the existing peatland. The site of the study is located within the Pożary Special Protection Area of the Kampinos National Park. Lithological profilem consists mainly of varigrained sand, covered by organic matter constituting peatland. The groundwater table fluctuates between 0.6 m below and 0.3 m above ground level. Combination of high organic content of soil profile and shallow depth to the water table causes slightly reducing conditions, especially in the upper part of aquifer. There, oxidation of organic matter (and/or methane) as well as nitrate and sulphate reduction has been presumed while denitrification and/or dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA) seems to control chemistry of groundwater in deeper part of the profile. The important differences in the chemical and isotopic composition of dissolved carbon have been found in the depth profile. Carbon isotopic composition of dissolved inorganic carbon in groundwater (13CDIC) indicates that carbonate carbon is derived mostly from the decomposition of organic matter, a small contribution being derived from the dissolution of carbonate minerals. The contribution of atmospheric CO2 to chemical and isotopic composition of dissolved carbon is negligible within all parts of aquifer.

This article attempts to determine the impact of peatlands on the chemical composition and selected parameters of shallow groundwater in Drawa National Park. Three peat bogs were selected for testing: Miradz, Wydrowe Łęgi and Głodne Jeziorka. They differ from each other in terms of origins, botanical composition and properties of peat. 55 samples of organic soils (including 41 peat samples) and 17 groundwater samples were collected. The samples came from layers of peat bogs and peatlands situated directly beneath and in the immediate vicinity. During the laboratory tests are shown in the basic physicochemical parameters of the peat: ash content (AC), cation exchange capacity (CEC), pH, moisture. In addition, the data on SRT and their botanical composition marked in the course of fieldwork have been verified. Directly in the field pH, PEW and water temperatures were examined. In the groundwater samples were determined concentrations of ions HCO3, SO4, NO3, Cl, PO4, Ca, Mg, Na, K, Fe, Mn, Al, Si and other selected metals. The results showed that the peat bogs of different genesis in a different way influence the shaping of the chemical composition of shallow groundwater. Especially significant differences indicate if compared to the peat bog Miradz, Wydrowe Łęgi in opposition to Głodne Jeziorka. Groundwater from the Głodne Jeziorka and direct neighborhoods showed a much lower pH, conductivity and mineralization.

The Certificate of a National Geopark was awarded to the Karkonosze National Park, along with its buffer zone, in September 2010. Geodiversity of the Karkonosze Mountains, subject to the comprehensive assessment in 2008-2009, resides mainly in the variety of geological, mineralogical and geomorphological phenomena. In addition, the legacy of mining and mineral prospecting is abundant. Many of the natural phenomena make the Karkonosze Mountains an exceptional area in Poland, and are of outstanding value if considered within the European context. The value of abiotic nature of the Karkonosze is promoted through multiple activities in the field of geotourism and ecological education, including construction of an extensive network of geosites, marked tourist paths, and educational trails with information boards. Further promotion of geodiversity of the Karkonosze is carried out in cooperation with the adjacent Krkonošský narodní park on the Czech side of the mountains, aiming at an establishment of a bilateral Polish-Czech Geopark Krkonoše/Karkonosze, within the framework of the European Geopark Network.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the status of the aquatic environment in the Świerszcz Basin in the Roztocze National Park. Within the framework of the measuring programs (conducted in 2011-2015) we performed F2 groundwater and H1 river and indicator studies conducted in 2014-2015, chemical analyses of major cations, anions, micronutrients, and analyses ofselected physical characteristics of groundwater and surface waters. Due to the exceedances of NO3, PO4, Tl, Se, Mo and Al concentrations in the water from springs and wells during the indicator surveys, it was assessed to require purification. The high levels o NO3 and PO4 testify to the effect of anthropoprotection, while the high content of the remaining components is most probably due to natural geochemical processes.

Opis:
In this paper, two scenic caves, five selected karst rock forms, and five rock outcrops situated in the Ojców National Park and its protected zone area are the subject of comparative research, considered as very essential examples of geotouristic potential. Most of their karst forms differ between each other. These include Łokietek and Ciemna (Dark) cave, Kraków Gate, Rękawica and Igła Deotymy rock-cliff at Ojców, Duży Pochylec rock-cliff in Skała, and Maczuga Herkulesa rocky tower at Pieskowa Skała. Apart from them, outcrops of Quaternary calcareous tufa and rock falls at Ojców, an abrasion surface cutting Upper Jurassic limestones and covered with Cretaceous limestones and marls, Pleistocene loess at Januszowice, and the Duże Skałki (Big Rocks) former quarry of Upper Jurassic limestone at Czajowice were also studied. All of them are situated in the Silesian-Kraków Monocline. The caves, rock-cliffs and Maczuga Herkulesa rocky tower developed in the Upper Jurassic Oxfordian massive limestone. Their karst forms are diverse and picturesque. The other objects selected for research are also very interesting and important examples, displaying products of very complex geological processes. The comparative geotouristic potential evaluation of all 12 objects was made to meet tourists', educators' and investors' expectations and needs to increase their geotouristic development level. The statistical data of the annual number of visitors at the described two caves is also discussed. In general, interest in them as geotouristic abiotic nature objects has been growing regularly until today. They have become very widely known in Poland. Moreover, the Łokietek Cave, Kraków Gate rock-cliff and Maczuga Herkulesa rocky tower have become very popular worldwide.

The major attraction of the Drawa National Park is its main river, the Drawa. However, the park includes also other georesources that have a large natural potential to become geovalues, received by tourists as its geoproducts. This may lead to develop geotourism, which is a tool of sustainable socio-economic development of the region. The article presents the erratic boulders, which are primarily the objects of geological heritage. Erratic material is also present in the cultural heritage of the region, e.g. in the churches, cobbled roads, hydraulic engineering constructions or as stone monuments, signposts, and forest departmental posts.

Opis:
The paper presents the 12-years discharge variations of the three springs located within the Pieniny National Park. The background was the observations of the water table variation in the springs and seasonal measurements of the springs discharge, which made the possibility of calculation of the rating curves. Generally, the Pieniny springs are characterized by low discharge. The mean discharge of the springs studied for the period 2003–2014 was as follows: spring of the Potok pod Wysoki Dział – 1.66 dm3s‒1, spring of the Kotłowy Potok – 0.26 dm3s‒1, seasonal spring of the Kirowy Potok – 0.10 dm3s‒1. Variations of the springs discharge are different due to the fact that particular spring drain separate, and relatively small groundwater reservoir. First of all, the influence of the many-years variation in the sum of atmospheric precipitation as well as the amount of infiltrating meltwater can be observed. Observations with monthly distribution showed the characteristic shift between maximum discharge of the spring and the sum of atmospheric precipitation (about 1 month shift) as well as the thawing period (1–3 months shift). Presumably, during dry seasons the springs have mainly the thawing regime, in the normal (balanced) seasons – the thawing-precipitation regime is dominant, and during the wet season – the precipitation-thawing regime prevails. In the years 2012 and 2013 the sudden decrease of discharge of the Kotłowy Potok and Kirowy Potok springs have been observed which is in well agreement with the hydrogeological drought identified in Poland.
