    The article discusses a preliminary concept of a method enabling the identification of chosen rail running surface defects, such as squats, spalling, and running surface defects, by analysing the parameters of vibration signals. It features a description of the methodology of the conducted tests, the scope thereof, and the selection of the measurement points with specific defect types. The article covers selected results of vibration tests, the results of analyses of recorded signals for defective track sections and those for control track sections. The presented measurement results have been obtained for the technical–operating conditions occurring on railway line no. 213 Reda – Hel and line no. 131 Chorzów Batory – Tczew. The preliminary test results and conclusions included in the article show that it is reasonable to pursue further research into the phenomena involving the utilisation of vibroacoustics in rail performance diagnostics.

    The article presents the cause of derailment of empty two-axle wagons placed in long freight train-sets together with bogie wagons, as well as research conducted to prevent this phenomenon, which was concluded by introducing appropriate statements in the UIC leaflet 530-2, and then in the European Standard EN 15839. It also presents activities undertaken during the preparation and performance of the tests, requirements for the test track and for the wagons’ composition in the train-set, conditions during the tests, values being measured and respective evaluation criteria, principles applicable to the result analysis, as well as a sample chart for a single ride and regressions for various criterions. Examples of wagons which were tested in this way are also given.

    Artykuł wymienia podstawowe wady powierzchni tocznej szyn, sklasyfikowane na podstawie doświadczeń kolei w Polsce oraz w innych krajach europejskich. Scharakteryzowano techniki pomiaru i obserwacji powierzchni szyn. Przedstawiono przykładowe wyniki pomiarów. Na podstawie zaprezentowanych pomiarów profilu podłużnego przeanalizowano możliwość wykorzystania wyników do oceny powierzchni tocznej szyn.
    The article outlines the basic defects in the running surface of rails. Classification was based on the experience of railways in Poland and other European railways. Measurement techniques and the observation surface of the rails were characterized. Examples of measurement results were presented. On the basis of the presented measurements of corrugation analyzes the possibilities of using the results to assess the running surface.

    Opis:
    The article presents method for assessment of the significance of factors of risk of the roiling stock derailment based on the computer experiment. The purpose of development of the method is to identify the most significant reasons for derailment among the possible mechanical reasons, i.e., those in the absence of which the derailment would not be possible. This includes the use of computer simulation of the dynamics of motion of separate railway rolling stocks and trains in general. Specifically designed dynamic models include the required parameters representing the state of railway rolling stock in operation. The proposed method can be used to analyze the tendency of the vehicle towards derailment according to the quantitative changes in safety parameters. The application of the developed method offer opportunities to find areas of further improvement of the running safety requirements in relation to the state of maintenance of freight cars and track and conditions of their rational operation to ensure an acceptable level of running safety.
    Artykuł przedstawia metodę oceny czynników ryzyka wykolejenia się taboru, wykorzystującą symulacje komputerową. Celem opracowania tej metody jest identyfikacja najważniejszych przyczyn wykolejenia spowodowanego czynnikami mechanicznymi, tzn. takich, bez których wykolejenie byłoby niemożliwe. Metoda ta polega na użyciu komputerowej symulacji dynamiki ruchu poszczególnych części taboru i ogólnie pociągów. Modele dynamiczne, specjalnie do tego celu zaprojektowane, zawierają odpowiednie parametry przedstawiające stan taboru w trakcie eksploatacji. Proponowana metoda może zostać użyta do analizy tendencji pojazdu do wykolejenia, zgodnie z ilościowymi zmianami parametrów bezpieczeństwa. Zastosowanie zaproponowanej metody daje możliwości znalezienia takich obszarów dalszej poprawy wymogów bezpieczeństwa ruchu związanego z utrzymaniem wagonów towarowych, torów i warunków ich racjonalnej eksploatacji, ażeby można by było zapewnić akceptowalny (odpowiedni) poziom bezpieczeństwa ruchu.
