Opis:
This paper presents a database of Active Dynamic Thermography (ADT) thermal sequences gathered throughout 6 year study on ADT application in skin flap blood perfusion monitoring and burn wounds diagnosis. For skin flap monitoring the database comprises of data collected during three different breast reconstruction procedures. The patients were monitored pre, intra and post surgically within 90 days period. The sequences were used in skin flap parametric imaging aimed at reducing complications and improving flap perfusion. For burns investigation patients were monitored following an accident, at the 3-rd day and 21 days after.

Opis:
In the article the influence of selected factors occurring during thermal measurements on the uncertainty of thermovision temperature measurement is discussed. A situation in which the observed surface was close to the camera lens was measured (distance less than one meter). Based on the type B determination methodology described in the literature on the subject, a method of calculating the measurement extended uncertainty is proposed. A division of factors influencing the thermovision temperature measurement uncertainty into external factors and internal factors is also proposed. Factors associated with the conditions prevailing during the measurement, the geometry of the measurement system and the properties of the observed surface were considered external factors. Factors related to the calibration of the thermal imaging camera, the sensor matrix used and the properties of its measuring path were qualified as internal factors. The method of determining the value of the camera display at the highest and lowest value of a particular factor is discussed. The probability distribution for each of the external factors was determined. The measuring system constructed is presented. It is explained how the uncertainty shares and expanded uncertainty were determined in accordance with the method proposed.

Opis:
Noise removal in IR (Infra Red) images is very popular in recent years, however the same approach is utilized as for vision images, with no or minor changes. In this work we wanted to show the results of noise removal for selected filters. We focused on investigation of some filters normally used for image processing and their influence to IR image quality. In IR imaging the choice of filter depends mainly on the purpose of the processing, e.g. detection of small objects in complex images, edge and contour detection or removal of non-uniformity of the detector array. The performance of the selected noise reduction filters was evaluated using PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) and MAE (Mean Absolute Error) quality measure, greater value of the PSNR and lower value of the MAE indicate better noise reduction. The results are shown only for few images from our database which contain over 2000 of IR images.

Adhesively bonded joints are widely used in the automotive industry. Different kinds of defects could appear in the bounded joint during its creation. The defects could be detected by use of many destructive and non-destructive methods including active thermography. Application of active thermography requires setting of test parameters. It could be done based on analytical or numerical models which requires material properties of bonded components. In the article presented results of measurements of thermal diffusivity and specific heat of automotive steel and adhesive for purposes of further modelling and estimation of active thermography test parameters.

Light-emitting diodes – LED, appeared on the market in the 60s of the last century, and today it is the fastest developing lighting technology. Due to high heat flux on the small surface of the individual diodes, problems related to the light source cooling become to be one of the basic ones. The paper presents results of the thermographic and numerical analyses of the chosen design of the LED lamp radiator. Experimental and computational data have been compared and discussed.

Opis:
Detecting defects in adhesively bonded joints, using active thermography methods is very promising NDT testing method. In many cases, tests are made with agreed conditions, where a test object is always in specific place of IR camera view. Although, for needs of industry, system should be able to adjust Region of Interest in order to prevailing conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop appropriate method for this task. The paper describe one of the easiest attempt to separate foreground of an IR image sequence acquired by Lock-In Thermography (LT) and Pulse Thermography (PT). Proposed approach is based on segmentation and morphological operations. The IR image sequences of 11 various samples were used for this task. Obtained results show that elaborated technique of foreground object extraction is possible.

Opis:
It is known that sub-surface discontinuities of matter, internal voids, inclusions of other materials or delaminations of the structure can be revealed on the surface temperature distribution. An important element of IR thermography investigations is the application of an appropriate heat source to heat the examined object. This article discusses the use of eddy currents for identification of reinforcing bars in concrete samples. The experiments have the laboratory character and are used primarily for qualitative assessment of the influence of bar diameter and concrete cover thickness on the identification of reinforcement in concrete elements. In order to induce a transient heat flow in tested samples, the eddy currents (EC) generator from IFF GmbH was used. After the pulse was completed, the surface temperature distribution was recorded using FLIR T620 infrared camera. The following experimental studies validate the practical application of active IR with EC to locate and assess the technical condition of reinforcing bars in reinforced concrete structures in buildings and civil engineering structures.

We propose simple thermal models of the healing processes after cardiosurgery interventions as objective descriptors allowing classification of patients for extraction and following recovery at home or for prolonged treatment in a hospital. Classification of healing as the normal process or as a process with complications is possible based on temporal changes of proposed thermal descriptors.

The paper presents the results of a thermal test (conducted with thermographic camera, coupled with an electrical test) of medium voltage metal–oxide surge arresters. Surge arresters (for Uc=18 kV) were tested for the leakage current and surface temperature: for 5 minutes under state 50 Hz alternating voltage 18 kV. The surface temperature of the MOAs correlates with an increase in leakage current. The result shows that the 0.6 mA AC leakage current in the medium voltage metal–oxide surge arrester (18 kV) is above the stable operating point, and the loss of electrical power is higher than the effective heat dissipation in the arrester. After 5 minutes of high voltage impact U = 18 kV, the surface temperature of the surge arrester was (4.32±0.55) K higher than the initial temperature. The IR camera can be used to detect the faults of ZnO metal–oxide surge arresters that lead to an increase in surface temperature.

This paper presents a comparison of two methods used for non-destructive testing: thermal impedance (Zth) and wavelet transform (WT). The transient heating process of a textolite plate with defects was measured using a thermographic camera. Based on the measurement results, a qualitative and quantitative assessment of material structure was performed. The measured parameters describing the geometry of the tested material were temperature, time constant, angular frequency and phase. The presented results of thermographic measurements and their analysis indicate the possibility of detection of subsurface defects using both presented methods. The convergence and the correlation between results obtained using thermal impedance and wavelet methods are presented.
