Opis:
Present paper deals with the field of Production Engineering specifically its standard of education in India. This discipline of engineering focuses on the capability of an engineer not just as a technician but also as a manager. As a result industry is also favoring the development of this field. This paper reviews the educational structure followed in India for engineering education. It aims to give a clear idea of standard of this discipline’s courses being run in India at different levels of engineering, considering both centrally funded and private institutions. It also covers the necessary simulation tools used to train the students during these courses and inspects over available web-resources related to the subject. In the epilogue it discusses the future prospects for this field’s development as a discipline and concludes with a brief comparison of India’s status from other regions of world. In the end we have made some suggestions to decision-makers based on our findings to improve the existing model.

Opis:
This paper introduces the most basic concepts of the compositional analysis of data with a simple but real example form the Management and Production Engineering (MPE) field. Compositional Data (CoDa) are vectors of positive elements that represent parts of a whole and are widely found in MPE, i.e. production times, resource composition, percentage utilization of work stands, waste components. . . The need for an analysis based on ratios of components (or better log-ratios of components) is illustrated step by step, and findings are compared to the corresponding standard methods applied to raw compositions. The paper also exposes the principles of CoDa analysis and presents two basic descriptive tools suitable for CoDa: the clr-biplot and the CoDa dendrogram. The example is a time series, from 1994 to 2013, of motor vehicle production in 8 countries and regions.

Opis:
The activities of the organisation concentrate mainly on meeting customers’ requirements. For this purpose, various activities are being conducted for customer satisfaction surveys. In this context, it is important to predict the quality of the product and the changes in the cost of the purchase product. The purpose of this study is to propose a method for predicting the quality level of a product and change the cost of the product considering current customers’ requirements for a combination of product feature states and pro-quality changes. The method includes the calculation of the quality level of the product using the punctationformalised method, where the level depends on a combination of values of states (parameters) attributes of the product, that is, current and modified. The method was tested as an example of a household vacuum cleaner for which 20 attributes were determined. According to the Pareto rule (20/80), the four product attributes important for customers were selected. Thereafter, for important attributes, possible combinations of the values of these attributes were determined. In addition, an algorithm for determining the possible combinations of product attribute states in the MATLAB program was developed. Additionally, the change in the current cost of the product considering the change in the quality level was estimated. The product cost changes were determined based on the actual cost of the product and the current product quality level. The method allows the determination of all combinations of values of state attributes of the product, such that it is possible to take appropriate improvement actions both in terms of quality and cost. The results from the method allow the prediction of product satisfaction for customers and they are favourable in terms of production cost. Therefore, it is possible to design the product in advance and support the producer in preparatory activities.

Improving product quality while making decisions remains a challenge. The objective of this research was to develop a model that supports the precise enhancement of product quality through comprehensive analysis of possibilities, product incompatibilities, root causes, and recommended improvement actions. The model incorporated various tools and methods such as the SMARTER method, expert team selection, brainstorming, Ishikawa diagram, 5M+E rule, FAHP, and FTOPSIS methods. The study demonstrated that integrating quality management tools and decision-making methods into a unified model enables the accurate prioritization of activities for product quality management. This integrated approach represents the novelty of this research. The model was evaluated using a mechanical seal made of 410 alloy. The research findings can be valuable to enterprises seeking to enhance product quality at any stage of production, particularly for modified or new products.

The article is to present the application of genetic algorithm in production scheduling in a production company. In the research work the assumptions of the methodology were described and the operation of the proposed genetic algorithm was presented in details. Genetic algorithms are useful in complex large scale combinatorial optimisation tasks and in the engineering tasks with numerous limitations in the production engineering. Moreover, they are more reliable than the existing direct search algorithms. The research is focused on the effectivity improvement and on the methodology of scheduling of a manufacturing cell work. The genetic algorithm used in the work appeared to be robust and fast in finding accurate solutions. It was shown by experiment that using this method enables obtaining schedules suitable for a model. It gives a group of solutions that are at least as good as those created by the heuristic rules.

Opis:
The Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, is about connecting the physical world with the virtual world in real-time. With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, manufacturing companies are introducing a number of solutions that increase productivity and personalize finished products in line with the idea of Industry 4.0. The application of, among others, the following: 3D printing, the Internet of Things, Big Data, cyber-physical systems, computing clouds, robots (collaborating and mobile), Radio-frequency identification systems, and also quality control and reverse engineering systems, is becoming popular. There are still not enough studies and analyses connected with the Polish 3D printing market, and also attempt to determine the attitude of those studies and analyses to the implementation of the Industry 4.0 conception. In connection with what is stated above, the principal objective of this paper is to determine the directions of the 3D printing industry development. In this publication, it is as well the survey respondents’ opinions relevant to opportunities and threats connected with the implementation of the Industry 4.0 conception in an enterprise are presented. The survey was conducted on a group of 100 enterprises and scientific research institutes in Poland, offering and/or applying additive technologies.

Opis:
The current industrial constraints on production systems, especially availability problems are complicating maintenance managers’ mission and making longer and further performance improvement process. Dealing with these problems in a wiser managerial vision respecting sustainability dimensions would be more efficient to optimize all resources. In this paper, and after addressing the lean/sustainability challenge in a the literature to define main research orientations and critical points in manufacturing and then maintenance specific context, two case studies have been conducted in two production systems in Morocco and Canada, within the objective to set a clearer scene of the lean philosophy implementation in maintenance and within the sustainability scope from an empirical perspective. To activate the social dimension being often non-integrated in the lean/sustainability initiatives, the article authors reveal an original research direction assigning maintenance logistics as the leading part of our approach to cover all sustainability dimensions. Furthermore, its management is discussed for the first time in a sustainable framework, where the authors propose a new model considering the lean/sustainable perspective and inspired by the rich Human-Machine interaction memory to solve daily maintenance problems exploiting the operators’ experience feedback.

This paper introduces the Lean School, a Learning Factory, along with a “game” of physical simulation that is developed in it. All this is focused on teaching-learning, both of students and professionals, of the potential advantages offered by the implementation of the Lean Production in the organizations. The participants gain a practical experience, based on experimental learning, which gives them a better understanding of the principles and tools of Lean philosophy. This physical environment is not limited to theoretical teaching, but goes beyond and implements a production system near a real one. It starts from a configuration of a production plant with an unbalanced system and throughout the different iterations, called productions, introduces and implement the Lean principles, which makes its participants acquire not only knowledge but also the skills needed to implement an efficient production in their organizations. All the constituent elements of the system will be described briefly: the product, the variations thereof, the initial design with its layout, as well as the subsequent productions, and the results of learning of each one.
