The following article takes up the notion of homeland in the works of Vasily Aksenov. In the article it was shown that in the writer's value system the homeland plays an important role. Rodina was considered key in gender studies. Analyses have demonstrated that Russia – is a symbol of the Mother, the USSR – is a symbol of her stepmother. The writer accuses the motherland that it has allowed to deprive their citizens of their freedom, particularly freedom of speech. The article also presents Aksenov’s attention to a small homeland – Kazan, the city of the writer’s childhood.

Данная статья посвящена вопросу родины в творчестве Василия Аксенова. В статье было доказано, что в системе ценностей писателя родина занимает важное место. Родина была рассмотрена в ключе gender studies. С помощью анализа произведений было показано, что Россия – это символ Матери, СССР – символ мачехи. Писатель обвиняет Родину в том, что позволила обидеть своих граждан, отобрать у них свободу, особенно свободу слова. Аксенов обращает также внимание на маленькую родину – пространство Казани, родной город писателя.

Opis:: The multicultural city is a popular setting of many Chicana narratives and short stories. However, in many contemporary works by Chicana authors it loses its typical function of providing a background to the story solely and becomes an active agent that reflects the struggles of its inhabitants. This negotiation is also seen in the interplay between the barrio and the city that is depicted in Chicana literature. This depiction of the city as a place of dialogue, negotiation and struggle against conformity is especially interesting in the two works by two Chicana authors – The Faults by Terri de la Peña and Two Badges: The Lives of Mona Ruiz by Mona Ruiz. Terri de la Peña makes L.A. an arena of fight against sexual conformity, male violence, and against conforming to restricting social norms. Ruiz, on the other hand, concentrates on the relation between the barrio and the city. In her personal story she presents different aspects of non-conformity, which is especially visible in the transformation of her own life, (namely her passage from a gang member to a policewoman in Santa Ana) and her struggle not to conform in both situations. The aspect of dialogue and negotiation is emphasized in both books at the linguistic level, as well, as both authors use code-switching. The purpose of my paper is to compare the two works and analyze the portrait of a contemporary multicultural city that emerges from these books, concentrating on the aspect of the city as a place of (non)conformity in terms of gender, ethnicity, sexuality and class.

Address forms, as key expressions of politeness are used in all cultures. They are well displayed in films which exhibit in many cases different societies of different times, and are becoming one of the biggest agents of popular culture, giving great opportunities for their use in sociolinguistic studies. This paper examines the socio-cultural aspects of the use of formal and informal ‘you’ as address forms through films in Hungarian and Russian languages. It explores the main similarities and differences between the studied societies in terms of the use of “Tu-vous” forms (Brown & Gilman, 1975). Formy adresu jako wyrazu uprzejmości są aktualne we wszystkich kulturach narodowych. One są popularne w filmach, które pokazuą zachowania różnych społeczesńtw w różnych okresach historycznych. Formy te są przedstawicielami kultury popularnej. Ich również można używać w lingwistyce spolecznej.W tym artykule opisaliśmy aspekty spoleczne i kulturowe formalnej i nieformalnej formy “ty” jako wyrazu adresu w filmach węgierskich i rosyjskich. W naszej pracy przedstawiono podobieństwa i różnice między społeczeństwami w stosowaniu formalnej і neformalnej formy “ty” (Brown & Gilman, 1975).

This article explores the problem of the self in The Sea by John Banville. The narrator’s professed lack of a stable identity coexists with a multiplication of his different “selves.” It is argued that the splitting of the self in Banville’s novel is more complicated than the split between a narrating self and the subject of narration, common to retrospective first-person narratives. Due to the intensely visual and time-defying nature of his memory, the protagonist seems to revive the past and achieves the sense of a simultaneous existence as two beings. The narrator’s need to locate himself at a fixed point in his narrative, combined with his inability to adopt a definitive perspective, results in a permanent erosion of identity.

Ce roman, écrit en 2018 et élaboré à partir d'un fait réel brouille les espaces du réel et de la fiction pour dévoiler les pensées apparemment inavouables d'un djihadiste. C’est cette stratégie du détour que cet article tâchera à mettre au clair. Il s’agira d’étudier comment Yasmina Khadra organise un brouillage de ces deux mondes, l’espace fictionnel et l’espace réaliste, situés à la lisière l’un de l’autre, pour les faire interagir, se confronter mais aussi se questionner.
In Khalil, Yasmina Khadra paints a realistic portrait of a terrorist. This novel written in 2018 and developed from a real fact, blurs the spaces of reality and fiction to reveal the apparently unavowable thoughts of a jihadist. It is this detour strategy that this article will seek to clarify. It will be a question of studying how Yasmina Khadra organizes a scrambling of these two worlds, the fictional space and the realistic space, located at the edge of each other, to make them interact, confront each other but also to question.

Prison facilities are special: they are complexes defined by a variety of parameters, whose understanding for an ordinary person is far from perfect. It may be observed that two main cultures clash in prisons: that of jailers and that of inmates. Both groups have different rules of conduct, which results in many misunderstandings and new norms of behaviour created on a daily basis. This, in turn, gives way to a constant creation of unique vocabulary specific to the institution, its inhabitants and employees. It may be said that under such conditions prison language thrives: prison slang is extremely changeable and adapts itself to the current needs of the facility. Thus, the level of linguistic creativity is tremendously high: prisoners base their vocabulary loosely on similarities between animate and inanimate beings, which leads to the development of highly figurative language. The research undertaken here focuses on linguistic creativity in American prison settings, and by doing so, draws attention to the originality and unconventionality of prison slang.

The present study examines the potential effect of scaffolding instruction on Jordanian EFL tenth-grade students’ overall writing performance and their performance on the sub-skills of focus, development, organization, conventions and word choice. The study follows a quasi-experimental experimental/control group, pre-/post test design. In the experimental group, 20 female tenth-grade students from the North-Eastern Badia Directorate of Education (Jordan) were taught to generate ideas, structure, draft, and edit their essays using agency scaffolding and the scaffolding principles of contextual support, continuity, intersubjectivity, flow, contingency and handover, within the Zone of Proximal Development. Another group of 28 students was instructed conventionally per the guidelines outlined in the Teacher’s Book. After the treatment, descriptive statistics and ANCOVA were used to analyze the students’ scores on the pre-test and the post test. The results showed that the scaffolding instruction group outperformed the control group (at a≤ 0.05) in their overall writing performance and in their performance on all writing sub-skills except the sub-skill of development.

Water is one of the obsessive themes in Serge Delaive's literary and photographic work. As an image of the in-between, the Delaive’s water symbolizes the fundamental ambivalence of man. It also plays the role of "scar tissue", capable of "stitching" the links of connaturality, removing the boundaries between rootedness and openness, between real and beyond, between past and future, between individual and community, between history and myth, between word and image. Our study aims to analyze this unifying function of water, focusing on three key notions of the story Black salmon (2017): movement, memory and identity.
L’eau est l’un des thèmes obsessionnels dans l’œuvre littéraire et photographique de Serge Delaive. En tant qu’image de l’entre-deux, l’eau delaivienne symbolise l’ambivalence fondamentale de l’homme. Elle joue également le rôle de « tissu cicatriciel », capable de « recoudre » les liens de connaturalité, de supprimer les frontières entre enracinement et ouverture, entre réel et au-delà, entre passé et futur, entre individu et collectivité, entre histoire et mythe, entre mot et image. Notre étude vise à analyser cette fonction unificatrice de l’eau, en se focalisant sur trois notions clés du récit Saumon noir (2017): le mouvement, la mémoire et l’identité.

In my article I interpret the short story “Among the Forest” by Adam Asnyk. I discuss the issue of the relationship between auditory perception and melancholic experiences. To this end, while analyzing the text, I refer to concepts regarding the nature of melancholia and adopt the methodological apparatus of sound studies. As it turns out, the listener's attitude is crucial for overcoming melancholia. According to the poet, attentive listening to the surroundings and the words of other people allows to reach the meaning of life inscribed in nature and as a consequence may help find a cure for melancholia.

Opis:: Orthoepie research is a traditional field at the department of Speech Science and Phonetics at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg. After several pronunciation dictionaries, the department has now published a pronunciation database. With the establishment of the German pronunciation database (DAD), the desire for a publicly accessible reference source is met. It offers norm phonetic information on general vocabulary, as well as forms and rules of phonetical Germanization. The database can be used for various scenarios in German lessons. Continuous expansion means that further possible uses can be introduced in the future.

El estudio parte de una revisión de los principales enfoques gramaticales para delimitar las causas de su alejamiento desde unos planteamientos que tengan como referencia la mejora del comportamiento lingüístico de los aprendientes. Este recorrido epistemológico servirá de base de fundamentación para generar un proceso didáctico que la ubica en relación con la lingüística del texto y que permite a la gramática adquirir su valor pedagógico en el desarrollo de la competencia lingüística y comunicativa de los estudiantes.
This paper reflects on the role of grammar in language teaching. The study starts from a review of the main grammatical approaches in order to delimit the causes of their distancing from approaches that have as reference the improvement of the linguistic behaviour of learners. This epistemological journey will serve as a basis for generating a didactic process that places it in relationship with the linguistics of the text and that allows grammar to acquire its pedagogical value in the development of the linguistic and communicative competence of students.

The paper is an attempt to verify empirically a holistic multimodal approach to pronunciation training developed by Szpyra-Kozłowska (2015). It reports a phonodidactic experiment carried out with two groups of Polish secondary school intermediate learners of English and demonstrates that the tested procedure is both more effective that the traditional listen-and-repeat tasks and more attractive to the participants, as shown in a post-test questionnaire study.Artykuł jest próbą empirycznej weryfikacji holistycznego multimodalnego podejścia do treningu fonetycznego, zaproponowanego przez Szpyrę-Kozłowską (2015). Autorzy relacjonują przeprowadzony przez nich eksperyment fonodydaktyczny z udziałem dwóch grup polskich uczniów na średniozaawansowanym poziomie angielszczyzny i wykazują, że zastosowana metoda jest zarówno bardziej efektywna niż tradycyjne ćwiczenia oparte na imitacji wzorca fonetycznego, jak również bardziej atrakcyjna dla uczniów, co wykazała przeprowadzona wśród nich ankieta.

This article aimed firstly to delineate the expressive formulas of conversation (FEC) compared to other subtypes of pragmatic phraseology, highlighting their main characteristics. Then, we outline a simple typology of FEC, based on two criteria: discursive and pragmatic. Finally, we propose the translation of a group of FEC while comparing the structure of formulas in French and their equivalence in Arabic.
Cet article vise tout d'abord à délimiter les formules expressives de conversation (FEC) par rapport à d'autres sous-types de phraséologismes pragmatiques, en mettant en évidence leurs principales caractéristiques. Deuxièmement, esquisser une typologie simple de la FEC, basée sur deux critères: discursif et pragmatique. Enfin, proposer la traduction d'un groupe de FEC en comparant la structure des formules en français et leurs équivalents arabes.
