Opis:
In the last decade a new idea has been suggested for receivers of communication systems, namely, in microwave receivers’ architecture. Though superheterodyne radio-frequency receivers are best suited to the needs of contemporary wireless communication, however stray radiation of their local oscillator (heterodyne) interferes with neighboring radio-devices and permits to locate the covert receiver. To overcome this drawback the signal transfer to optical range has been suggested. By this conversion, not only an elimination of receiver’s stray radiation is attained but also vast advantages of photonic signal processing become available. The key element of existing microwave-photonic receivers is electro-optical microdisk modulator. However, its realization is complicated and as an alternative an electro-optical modulator based on high Q-factor Fabry-Perot microresonator is suggested. Comparative analysis of both types of modulators is performed, and advantages of high Q-factor Fabry-Perot microresonator based modulator are highlighted.

Opis:
New design method is presented for distributed amplifiers (DA). It is shown that by proper design of the applied transmission lines (TL) between the active devices the image impedance and the cut-off frequency (COF) of the input or output line of the DA can be independently tuned. As a consequence, the phase mismatch between the lines of the DA can be adjusted independently from the termination conditions and from the capacitances of the applied transistor and thus flat gain characteristic can be achieved. The method is well applicable for nearly unilateral devices like HBTs [1] and yields the highest gain-bandwidth product.

Opis:
The automatic recognition of signal types is an important task of monitoring receivers and also cognitive receivers. Several modulation recognition or classification procedures exist for single channel signal types while a simple robust procedure for automatic recognition of OFDM signals is lacking because of its numerous frequency channelslying close together. The task considered in this paper is the discrimination between OFDM (or multi-channel) signals and other signal types. The number of frequency channels of the OFDM signals is assumed to be unknown a priori. So, together with the automatic OFDM detection the estimation of the number of frequency channels is treated. Several discrimination features have been examined and the most promising ones are described: measures of the variation, of the skewness, of the kurtosis, and of the specific picket-fence shape of the spectrum which is typical for many OFDM signals. For a number of real-world OFDM samples, recorded from the high frequency range, results are presented. An automatic discrimination from single channel or noise like signals is achieved and the number of system channels can be estimated.

Opis:
There is a way to automatically wake up television receivers when a broadcaster sends out an emergency alert. In the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) digital television standard, the emergency wake-up procedure is called an Emergency Warning System (EWS). In ISDB-T, the special signal is embedded in a control message known as transmission and modulation configuration control (TMCC). However, improper identification of the wake-up signal, often encountered in mobile reception, leads to unnecessary wake ups. In this paper, a method of reliably determining a wake-up signal is proposed by assuming that broadcasters will not change the TMCC message except for the wake-up signal when the broadcaster sends out an emergency alert. A change in the wake-up bit leads to variation parity, and the proposed method also relies on such variations. Mutual information to be obtained by the wake-up receiver is evaluated using the memoryless binary asymmetric channel model. Results showed that the proposed method provided mutual information even at a Eb/N₀ being lower than 10 dB. Mutual information of the proposed method with intermittent reception is also analyzed as a function of the duty ratio of the intermittent receiver.

Opis:
Implementation of new services in the network requires appropriate methods and tools for checking correctness of interworking between terminals and exchanges. In this article the methodology and test procedures prepared for testing terminals handling FSK protocol transmitted over the local loop for display and related services was described. Methodology presented here is based on ETSI standards. Test procedures were developed for services offered in Polish network. Tests cover all levels of FSK protocol. For two lower layers, separate procedures for ^on-hook" and "off-hook" loop states were prepared. The procedure for "on-hook" state contains tests related to data transmission "associated" and "not associated with ringing". These procedures cover normal cases with parameter values and sequence elements complying with standards and exceptional procedures with the extreme values of the parameters and with modified elements of the sequences.
