Opis:
The degree of infection witb Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides (Fron.) Deighton and Fusarium spp. Of 10 triticale varieties was evaluated in vegetation periods 1995-1996 and 2 localities of Poland. In Choryń, varieties Ugo and Lasko were significantly more infected with eyespot pathogen at the stages of shooting (GS 30) and waxy ripe (GS 87), respectively, than other varieties tested. Infection of variety Bogo was significantly lowest at waxy ripe stage, as compared with other varieties. In the case of infection with Fusarium spp. differentation between varieties was insignificant.
W Choryni odmiany Ugo i Lasko były najsilniej porażone przez P. herpotrichoides odpowiednio w fazach: w fazie strzelania w źdźbło (GS 30) i w fazie dojrzałości woskowej (GS 71 ).

Opis:
In the year 1997 distinct injures on winter wheat cv. Kobra were stated strongly resembling symptoms of infection caused by Fusarium. On prematurely ripening plants a partial or total yellowing of ears was observed, and lower parts of internodes showed brown discoloration. It was stated after careful examination that culms and ears were infested with numerous mites, Tyrophagus longior (Gerv.), not by species of Fusarium. The mites probably contributed to decrease in grain yield. Kernels were small and underdeveloped which influenced the decrease of quality of seeding material.

Opis:
The paper summarizes the results of observations on the occurence of diseases on hybrid rye Marder F1 and a traditional rye cv. Motto. Observations were performed in field conditions, on plots treated with fungicides, and untreated control plots. Powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis), leaf scald (Rhynchosporium secalis), leaf rust (Puccinia dispersa), and stem rust (P. graminis) were the most commonly occuring diseases, although leaf spot caused by Fusarium spp. was also observed. Hybrid rye studied, Marder F1 was characterized by high susceptibility to fungal diseases. The paper also presents data on the quantity of grain yield as related to chemical control.
Doświadczenie prowadzono w 3 lokalizacjach: Rolniczym Zakładzie Doświadczalnym IOR Winna Góra, Stacji Hodowli Roślin "Dańko" w Choryni i Przędsiębiorstwie Wdrożeniowo-Nasiennym w Jarosławcu.

Opis:
The influence of oilseed rape glucosinolates on the grown in vitro pathogenic fungi was studied. Two pathogenic to oilseed rape fungi species: Fusarium roseum and Rhizoctonia solani were taken into consideration. It was observed that glucosinolates added to the medium limited the growth of both tested fungi to some extent, especially when higher concentrations of glucosinolates was supplied.
Testowano wpływ glukozynolanów wyizolowanych z nasion rzepaku (Brassica napus L.) na wzrost - w warunkach in vitro - dwóch gatunków grzybów patogenicznych porażających tę roślinę: Fusarium roseum i Rhizoctonia solani.

Opis:
There has been a rapid, worldwide increase in oilseed rape production that has resulted in enormous intensification of oilseed rape cultivation, leading to tight rotations. This in turn, has caused an accumulation of pests as well as foliar and soil-borne diseases. Recently, clubroot has become one of the biggest concerns of oilseed rape growers. Clubroot is caused by the soil-borne protist Plasmodiophora brassicae Woronin. The pathogen may be present in groundwater, lakes, and irrigation water used in sprinkling systems. It can be easily transmitted from one field to another not only by water, but also by soil particles and dust transmitted by wind and on machinery. The aim of our overall study was to check for P. brassicae infestation of Polish agricultural soils. This paper presents the 2012 results of a study performed along the Polish-Ukrainian border in two provinces: Lublin (Lubelskie Voivodeship) and the Carpathian Foothills (Podkarpackie Voivodeship), in south-east Poland. Monitoring was done in 11 counties, including nine rural and two municipal ones. In total, 40 samples were collected, out of which 36 were collected from fields located in rural areas and four from municipal areas, with two per municipal region. Each sample was collected at 8-10 sites per field, using a soil auger. The biotest to detect the presence of P. brassicae was done under greenhouse conditions using seedlings of the susceptible Brassicas: B. rapa ssp. pekinensis and the Polish variety of oilseed rape B. napus cv. Monolit. Susceptible plants grown in heavily infested soils produced galls on their roots. A county was regarded as free from the pathogen, if none of the bait plants became infected. The pathogen was found in three out of 40 fields monitored (7.5%) in the Carpathian Foothill region. The fields were located in two rural counties. The pathogen was not found in Lublin province, and was also not detected in any of the municipal counties. The detection with a biotest was fully confirmed by PCR-based molecular detection of P. brassicae DNA in soil samples.

Endopeptidase marker EpD1b and STS marker XustSSR2001-7DL are closely linked to very effective eyespot resistance gene Pch1. Because of this, the aim of this study was to compare the results obtained under lab conditions using such markers with the results obtained under field conditions. 134 wheat breeding lines and Triticum aestivum L. var. Randevous used as a eyespot resistance control were analized. The combination of three methods allowed to select eight completely resistant or high resistant lines, that could be used in following breeding processes. Results obtained using endopeptidase and STS markers in 100% correlate with the phenotyping scoring.

Opis:
Eyespot can reduce yields, even up to 50%. There are four genetically characterized resistances in wheat varieties, controlled by: (1) the Pch1 gene, transferred from Aegilops ventricosa; (2) the Pch2 gene, originating from wheat variety Capelle Desprez; (3) the Pch3 gene, originating from Dasypyrum villosum; and (4) the Q.Pch.jic-5A gene, a quantitative trait locus (QTL) located on chromosome 5A of Capelle Desprez. However, those loci have drawbacks, such as linkage of Pch1 with deleterious traits and limited effectiveness of Pch2 against the disease. Here we present an initial study which aims to characterize wheat pre-registration breeding lines carrying 12 eyespot resistance genes, consider their resistance expression in inoculation tests and the influence of resistance genotypes on the yield. We selected four groups of breeding lines, carrying: (1) the Pch1 gene alone: one line; (2) the Pch2 gene alone: four lines; (3) the Q.Pch.jic-5A gene alone: one line; and (4) Pch1 + Q.Pch.jic-5A: three lines. For the first time, the effect of the combination of Pch1 and Q.Pch.jic-5A genes was compared with resistance conferred by Pch1 or Q.Pch.jic-5A alone. We found significant differences between infection scores evaluated in resistant lines carrying Pch1 and Q.Pch.jic-5A alone, while no differences in terms of the level of resistance expression were detected between Pch1 alone and Pch1 + Q.Pch.jic-5A, and between wheat lines carrying Pch1 and Pch2 alone. Moreover, we demonstrated that the Pch1 gene, together with an Ae. ventricosa segment, caused statistically significant yield losses, both as a single eyespot resistance source or in a combination with Q.Pch.jic-5A. Yield scores showed that wheat lines with Q.Pch.jic-5A had the highest yields, similar to the yielding potential of Pch2-bearing lines and control varieties.

Opis:
Eyespot is one of the most important fungal diseases of the stem base of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The presented study clearly demonstrated that the Pch1 gene was the main effective source for reducing the eyespot disease score in the analyzed winter wheat lines. Nevertheless, Pch1 was present only in 8−9% of the investigated lines. Using an isoenzymatic marker and molecular markers, the presence of the Pch1 gene and lack of the Pch2 gene was identified in six lines. Two lines, SMH 9409 and DL 358/13/4, were polymorphic in an isoenzymatic marker study. In the remaining three lines, C 3373/11-1, KBH 15.15 and KBP 1416, the Pch1 gene was identified only with the use of an isoenzymatic marker. Both genes Pch1 and Pch2, as well as the resistant variety Rendezvous, were found in three lines: DD 248/12, KBP 15.2 and STH 4431. In line DD 708/13, the presence of the Pch1 and Pch2 genes was identified, where the association between the Pch1 and the locus of the Xorw5 marker was broken. It was shown that the presence or absence of Pch1 and Pch2 genes did not significantly affect the grain yield (from the plot), although the yield was highest in the presence of both genes. A significant effect of the presence of the Pch1 gene on thousand kernel weight (TKW) was observed. Lines with the Pch1 gene showed significantly higher TKW values than lines without both genes or with the Pch2 gene only.
