Opis:
This work presents the possibility of measuring heart action parameters in the alpine conditions as well as the measuring system, which helps to measure and transmit EKG signal with the aid of GPRS net. The GPRS transmission makes the estimation of heart action on - line possible. Thanks to it, it is possible to monitor the reaction of human organism being on a certain level of height. GPRS net application enables the measuring in the whole world. The charge for using this net is only dependent on the quantity of transmitted data which needs the signal compression. This work also mentions the possibility of compression use, which takes the advantage of temporal and frequency decomposition.

The inverse electrocardiography was under development for many years. In this novel approach one application was elaborated and described in this paper; with 3D real–time visualisation of ECG tracings on a PC. Using the electrocardiography data–stream from the chest leads, electrical excitation sequence was visualised — by the non–invasive technique, supported by the three–dimensional model of heart.

Opis:
Recording and analysis of fetal heart rate variability is still the most common method for detection of early symptoms of fetal hypoxia. However, fetal heart rate obtained via ultrasound describes only mechanical activity of fetus heart. Limitations of this technique have stimulated the development of fetal electrocardiography. It ensures more precise determination of fetal heart rate and, which is more important, enables assessment of the morphology of the fetal QRS complexes. In this paper two techniques of obtaining the fetal electrocardiogram are described and their comparative study is presented.

Opis:
The subject of examination was mainly the determination of safety of available ECG electrodes use in conditions of defibrillation treatment in monitored patients. The electrodes of four European producers used in healthcare have been tested. For reason of periods of electrodes obtaining and their physical condition, the examinations have comprised four selected years and 7 types of electrodes. For testing needs, the electrodes were glued into pairs, in gel-to-gel mode. Testing was based on requirements of globally used American ANSI⁄AAMI EC 12:2000⁄(R)2010 standard for disposable ECG electrodes. For the electrodes pairs tested, determined was the influence of fourfold defibrillation release on polarization potential and their impedance measured with the current of 10 Hz frequency. It has been generally found that in result of fourfold exposition to defibrillating pulse the drop of impedance occurred in all tested, electrode pairs. For each electrodes series, mean value of this drop falls into interval of 10,8% to 57%. It was also pointed out that the ECG electrodes examined, while complying to requirements of the standard, allow the operator to perform the defibrillation procedure safely, including the possibility to fast evaluate the defibrillation result basing on ECG waveform recorded. Such general estimation of safety level of the available European ECG electrodes may be used as some reference in today very diversified market as to provenience end quality of products.

Opis:
Electrocardiography (ECG) is commonly used non-invasive procedure for recording electrical activity of the heart. It is a powerful clinical non-invasive tool for proper diagnosis and therapy of cardiac abnormalities. Thus, accurate reproduction of the ECG is required especially if diagnosis making process is supported by automatic measurements and their interpretation. The paper presents an assessment of lowf-requency response of selected ECG recorders in relation to international requirements. Four recorders have been selected and tested according to IEC draft 62D: 60601-2-51/Ed.1 and the results have been discussed.

Characteristic points detection such as beginnings and ends of P-wave, T-wave or QRS complex is one of primary aims in automated analysis of ECG signal. The paper presents one possible approach based on Bayesian inference to design of kernel based classifier. The classification function is constructed using the probability distribution function of standard normal distribution and independent Gaussian random variables. The parameters of such variables are computed using iterative Expectation-Maximization algorithm. This approach is used to calculate parameters of classification function to modelling Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy systems. Numerical experiment of characteristic points detection in ECG signal using CTS database is also presented.

Opis:
This paper presents the study of algorithms for derivation of respiration waveform from the electrocardiogram. The problem has considerable clinical impact, because the heart rate and respiration are both driven by the central nervous system, and commonly used low-cost Holter recording may be used for efficient detection of breath disturbances (e.g. apnea). Three methods based on: heart rate, heart position and lung resistance influencing the ECG amplitude were compared in our research. Among 18 volunteers breathing at a controlled frequency all implemented algorithms show acceptable sensitivity of order of 97% in slow breathing phases detection. In fast breathing the sensitivity is reduced to 90%, since the heart beats are too sparse with regard of respiration waveform.

Opis:
The electrocardiogram is a digital record of effective action potentials of heart muscle fibres, thus it contains an important information about the heart function. Unfortunately, the signal theory-based description of the ECG contents is not efficient in extracting these data, and the practical interpretation software is mostly based on heuristic statements. This conclusion was a motivation for our research on the expert-like machine reasoning based on ECG perception analysis, physiology-driven feature extraction and fuzzy logic. This paper highlights the aspect of optimal description of an electrocardiogram contents in a digital record.

Opis:
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is the prime tool in non-invasive cardiac electrophysiology and has a prime function in the screening and diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. However one of the greatest problems is that usually recording an electrical activity of the heart is performed in the presence of noise. The paper presents empirical Bayesian approach to problem of signal averaging which is commonly used to extract a useful signal distorted by a noise. The averaging is especially useful for biomedical signal such as ECG signal, where the spectra of the signal and noise significantly overlap. In reality the variability of noise can be observed, with power from cycle to cycle, which is motivation for weighted averaging methods usage. It is demonstrated that by exploiting a probabilistic Bayesian learning framework, it can be derived accurate prediction models offering significant additional advantage, namely automatic estimation of 'nuisance' parameters. Performance of the new method is experimentally compared to the traditional averaging by using arithmetic mean and weighted averaging method based on criterion function minimization.

Robust filtering is a very promising area in application of biomedical signal processing. Signals are usually recorded with noise, which has various characteristics of baseline wander to very impulsive nature. The robust technique has been recently proposed as the tool to eliminate outliers in data samples. The main purpose of this paper is to present mean-median filters in application of ECG signal processing. The presented filter is evaluated in the presence of real muscle noise and simulated impulsive noise as a Gaussian-Laplace mixture. In order to suppress a noise with the best possible means, the special expression is proposed. The measure of distortions, which are introduced to a signal after operation of filtering, is estimated using the normalized mean square error. This factor is used to compare a quality of considered filters. Experimental results show improved performance according to the reference filters.

In this paper a new method of maternal electrocardiogram suppression for fetal component extraction from one-channel maternal abdominal bioelectric signals is proposed. The method performs maternal ECG estimation by application of state-space averaging. The estimated signal is subtracted from the original one and this way suppressed. The method parameters allow us to balance between the precision of maternal ECG suppression and the necessity not to attenuate the fetal QRS complexes. A small database of the maternal abdominal bioelectric signals is used to investigate the developed system for fetal heart rate determination. The final assessment is based on the detection performance index. It is shown that by proper choice of the parameters we can tune the system so that it is more effective than the classical approach based on template subtraction.

Averaging is one of the basic methods of statistical analysis of experimental data where the response of the system is periodic or quasi-periodic. As long as the noise are Gaussian, the standard averaging leads to good results and effective noise reduction. However, when the distortions have impulsive nature, then such an approach leads to a deterioration of the system. In this case the robust methods should be applied which are characterized by resistance to a statistical sample spoken. In this work a robust averaging method based on the minimization of a scalar criterion function using a Lp-norm functions are presented. The effectiveness of the proposed method was tested in an averaging periods aligned ECG signal cycles in the presence of impulse noise.
