Recognition and verification of persons are difficult and important tasks today. In many fields of human activities (driver's licenses, passports, electronic cards, etc.), signature recognition of person is needed. Hence, it inspires the development of a wide range of automatic identification systems. Signatures have been used for many centuries as a method of people's identification. Signatures recognition was performed manually by experts in the past. Nowadays, these procedures are very often automatically applied. In this paper the system that automatically authenticates documents based on the owner's handwritten signature is presented.

Opis:
Nowadays, the most significant impact of digital image processing in the area of applications are real–world problems. Many new technological trends in medicine and digital processing have been implemented. Several factors indicate such development. A major one is the perpetually declining cost of the computer equipment required. Both processing unit and capacity of storage devices continue to become less expensive year by year. Another factor is the increasing availability of equipment for digitising and displaying images. In modern image processing, images have to be compared each other because such approach allows us to automate of retrieval process. Computer image retrieving is today especially important in medical diagnostics [1,7] or in preliminary images selection [8,9]. Today, in the digital image processing are used techniques and methods which have well known mathematical backgrounds. It can be observed, that in the area of digital signal processing, the Hough and well known the Fourier transform are exploited very often. These transforms are frequently use in image retrieving and can be implemented as computer applications. In many cases the mentioned methods give promising results in images classification or preselection [1,2,4,5,11]. Special properties of such transforms can be used in statistical or comparative goals, especially when searched information has graphic form. Taking into account the mentioned applications, transforms as methods of preliminary medical images selection have been investigated. From this reason pictures, analysing in the paper, to medical images have been limited.

This study examines the effectiveness of normalized Levenshtein metrics in the process of recognition of handwritten signatures. Three methods of normalization of the Levenshtein metric were taken into consideration. In addition, it was determined, which signature features are most important during their comparisons with the use of the aforementioned metric. The following signature features were examined: coordinates of signature points, pen pressure in successive points, and different types of pen speed. The influence of individual parameters of the Levenshtein algorithm on the obtained results was also determined, and the best method of normalization was selected.

Modern digital imaging is used in many areas of human activities. Nowadays, imaging and different human body measurements are also used in medicine, during operation planning by surgeons, dental surgeons, in transplantology, etc. The 3D visualization of human body and some abnormalities of body internal organs can be observed by means of specialized techniques as CT or MRI. During measurements these techniques can present object description by specialized language - VRML (Virtual Reality Modelling Language). Modern VRML browsers offer higher quality visual interfaces for man-computer interaction in real-time environment than ever before. In this paper the simple method of medical images projection and image measurements are presented. Very expensive commercial products can be successfully substituted by means of the computer program proposed in this paper. Proposed approach is based only on VRML and is easy to implement in many programming languages.

Opis:
This paper addressees the problem of an early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease by the classification of characteristic features of person’s voice. A new, two-step classification approach is proposed. In the first step, the voice samples are classified using standard state-of-the-art classifiers. In the second step, the classified samples are assigned to patients and the final classification process based on majority criterion is performed. The advantage of using our new approach is the resulting, reliable patientoriented medical diagnose. The proposed two-step method of classification allows also to deal with the variable number of voice samples gathered for every patient. Preliminary experiments revealed quite satisfactory classification accuracy obtained during the performed leave-one-out cross validation.

Opis:
Cardiovascular mortality remains a leading health and social problem in many countries throughout the world. Its main cause is related to atherosclerosis of coronary and cerebral vessels with their most severe consequences: heart attack and stroke. Therefore, it is obvious that current preventive measures include early detection of atherosclerosis process. Multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) is one of imaging modalities allowing for noninvasive detection of atherosclerotic lesion within coronary arteries in subjects with accumulation of risk factors (smoking, high lipids, hypertension, male gender, family history) or with suspicion of coronary artery disease (CAD). In is very important that the tomographic images are taken in synchronization with cardiac cycle so that, during few heartbeats, an appropriate series of images can be recorded. Commonly, cardiac MDCT is used for visualization of cardiac and vessels morphology. Heart function can also be determined, however, this MDCT potential is only rarely applied, as current echocardiographic modalities are sufficient. Functional analysis of coronary arteries (flow, reserve) is usually approached by means of invasive procedures. We aimed at finding solution for evaluation of another kind of functional analysis of coronary arteries, namely vessel's wall compliance by means of MDCT coronary angiography. Under the proposed procedure, on basis of serial CT images of the vessels over entire cardiac cycles, the internal area of the blood vessel is measured and its changes during various phases of heartbeat (systole, diastole) are calculated. If the vessel wall has been changed by atherosclerotic plaque, either calcified or non-calcified, then its compliance will be reduced due to its stiffness. Calculation of coronary artery compliance requires a series of measurements, which is unreliable and impractical for doing manually. One component of the method described herein involves the images being converted into binary representations and the Hough Transform then applied. The overall methodology proposed in this paper assists in the preparation of a medical diagnosis.

Opis:
The reconstruction of the osseous structures in the pelvic region after bone tumour resection is highly complex and challenging. Up to now the reconstruction of the pelvis defects by autologous or allogenous grafts (for instance the fibula transplants) are highly unsatisfied because of large shape differences. Therefore there is a huge demand for patient-specific and anatomically shaped implants. Our pelvis reconstruction planning approach is based on the statistical shape model. For generation of the statistical pelvis shape model a large data pool of CT datasets has been collected. The following CT data segmentation and surface processing methods delivered the required pelvis geometries. Via Procrustes analysis of the collected pelvis surfaces the parameterized pelvis shape mean model has been calculated and the principal component analysis (PCA) [3] applied for estimating the anatomically optimal graft or implant geometry. We will demonstrate on the clinical pelvis reconstruction case that the using of statistical shape models in the oncologic surgery planning is robust and very promising method.

The paper presents a personal identification method based on lips photographs. This method uses a new approach to the extraction and classification of characteristic features of the mouth from photographs. It eliminates the drawbacks that occur during the acquisition of lip print images with the use of the forensic method that requires special tools. Geometrical dimensions of the entire mouth as well as of the upper and lower lips were adopted as the features, on the basis of which the verification is performed. An ensemble classifier was used for the classification of the features obtained. The effectiveness of the classifier has been verified experimentally.

Opis:
In the study, the outline of etiopatogenesis and epidemiology of the lateral spinal curvature is presented. We proposed multiparameter verification of the radiography and spirometry factors detected by thermovision investigation conducted on the patients of The Outpatient Clinic for Rehabilitation. The binary, take-off board thermo-pictures carried out using different temperature thresholds, visualised asymmetry of infrared radiation emitted by paravertebral muscles in kinds of scoliosis and symmetric images in normal condition. The different level of the correlation between thermovision picture asymmetry factor (TAF), the value of the Cobb's angle and the normal breathing capacity index (VS, DS) were obtained depending on the type of scoliosis. The aim of the work was to answer the following questions: (1) In what type of scoliosis the correlation between curvature angle and the respiratory capacity and spine asymmetry factor SAF is the highest. (2) Does the noticeable asymmetry of para-vertebral muscles in the thermographic image exist among the groups of scoliosis examined? (3) Does the simple type of plan-metric image processing guarantee sufficient level of expression in infrared emission differences between para-vertebral muscles? (4) In which type of scoliosis the correlation between curvature angle, respiratory factors (VS, SD) and the thermoemission asymmetry index (TAF) is the highest. The research group consisted of 60 persons: 20 boys (33,3% of the group) and 40 girls (66,6%). The average age for girls was 13,5 (± 3,65), for boys - 12,7 (± 2,85). The control group consisted of 30 healthy children from The Second Primary School of Cieszyn of which 10 were boys aged on average 11,7 (± 1,25) and 20 were girls aged on average 12,8 (± 2,4).Conclusions: (1) asymmetry of termovision picture in correlation with respiratory factors and the Cobb's angle exists in long-arched curvatures mainly in mirror type. (2) thermovision asymmetry factor (TAF) and spine asymmetry factor (SAF) of light photographs had better correlations with Cobb's angle than respiratory parameters VC, DC, (3) simplified procedure for measuring asymmetry factors in photographs recommended this methods to screen scoliosis diagnostic because it is less expensive comparing to infrared camera diagnistics.

Opis:
Telemedical system for fetal home monitoring with smart selection of signal analysis algorithms is presented in this paper. Fetal monitoring signals are provided by a mobile instrumentation consisting of bioelectrical signal recorder and tablet PC which retrieves and processes the data as well as provides wireless data transmission based on Internet. The fetal surveillance system enables analysis, dynamic presentation and archiving of acquired signals and medical data. Novelty of the proposed approach relies on smart fitting of the algorithms for analysis of the abdominal signals in mobile instrumentation, as well as on controlling of the fetal monitoring session from the surveillance center. These actions are performed automatically through continuous analyzing of the signal quality and the reliability of the quantitative parameters determined for the acquired signals. Using that approach the amount and content of data transmitted through remote channels to the surveillance center can be controlled to ensure the most reliable assessment of the fetal well-being.
