Opis:
This paper compares friction for orthogonal and non-orthogonal models developed for chamfered ceramic tools with a large negative rake angle. The new non-orthogonal friction model was tested for the machining of spheroidal cast iron (SCI) using coated nitride ceramic inserts. Friction coefficients were determined on the rake and flank face for fresh and worn ceramic inserts using the values of force components recorded during tool wear tests at different cutting speeds. In particular, the friction and normal forces acting on the rake and flank faces were computed. It was revealed that friction coefficients at the tool-chip and tool-workpiece interfaces change substantially with the tool wear progress and differ from that determined for orthogonal friction model.

Opis:
The purpose of this research is to asses the functionality of surfaces produced by CBN hard turning, ball burnishing and superfinishing for improving the surface finish of parts made of high-strength, low alloy 41Cr4 steel with a hardness of about 57 HRC. Machined surfaces were characterized usin 3D scanning techniques. A set of 3D roughness parameters and real 3D surface topographies produced by the above-mentioned machining operations were estimated and determined. This investigation confirms that sequential processes based on initial CBN hard turning allows producing surfaces with better service properties. The main conclusion is that this sequential technology can partly eliminate grinding operations when hard machining is not enough to produce the desired surface finish.

Opis:
The different technological operation can form the variety of surface with the different functionality. In this paper the surface texture produced by hard turning of a quenched 100Cr6 steel of 62-64 HRC hardness using mixed ceramic (MC) tools and subsequent superfinishing and multipass burnishing operations is characterized by means of a number of roughness parameters. Both conventional and wiper MC cutting tool inserts were employed. The main objective of this study is to improve service properties of the turned surfaces of bearing parts by additional removal and non-removal treatments in order to obtain smoother surfaces with lower surface roughness and better bearing characteristics.

Opis:
In this paper the basic cutting characteristics such as cutting forces, cutting power and its distribution, specific cutting energies and friction were determined as functions of variable tool corner radius ranging from 400 to 1200 µm and the cutting speed ranging from 150 m/min to 270 m/min for a hardened 41Cr4 alloy steel of 55±1 HRC hardness in finish turning steel using chamfered CBN tools. Moreover, selected roughness profiles produced for different tool corner radius were compared and appropriate surface roughness parameters were determined. The measured values of Ra and Rz roughness parameters were compared with theoretical values and springback effect was taken into account.

Opis:
The purpose of this research is to test the applicability of ball burnishing for improving surface integrity produced in hard machining on parts made of high-strength, low alloy 41Cr4 steel with hardness of about 57 HRC. Machined surfaces were characterized using 2D and 3D scanning techniques. Moreover, the distribution of microhardness beneath the surface was determined and the microstucture of the sublayer was examined using SEM/EDS technique. This investigation confirms that ball burnishing allows producing surfaces with acceptable surface roughness and better service properties. The main conclusion is that this sequential technology can partly eliminate grinding operations when hard machining is not enough to produce the desired surface integrity.

This paper presents 3D FEM simulation results performed for the power law and JC (Johnson-Cook) material constitutive models for two sets of friction parameters. The friction conditions were tested using pin-on-disc tribometer. Machining tests were carried out using carbide cutting tools coated with a TiAlN monolayer without coolants. The selection of machining conditions was based on real production data. In addition, a real CAD model of the cutting tool insert was implemented. Moreover, an advanced technique of meshing the cutting edge and the grooved rake face was applied. The simulations include cutting forces and cutting temperature. Finally, FEM simulations were compared with measurements in order to improve the simulation strategy.

Opis:
This paper is focused on the finite element analysis of machining of Inconel 718 superalloy in a non-orthogonal (3D) turning process. The cutting experiments were carried out on the cylindrical workpiece of Inconel 718 with the cutting speed of 60-90 m/min, the feed rate of 0.1 mm/rev and different depths of cut. The FEM simulations include the average and maximum interface temperatures, the resultant cutting force and its three components and the chip thickness obtained for the 3D turning process. The simulation results were compared with experimental data obtained in the non-orthogonal process. It was found that the experimental values of the cutting forces are underestimated (about 23-30%) in relation to the FEM simulation data. Additionally, it was noted that the cutting depth has a significant effect on the average interface temperature only when using a non-orthogonal turning process.

This paper characterizes mechanical properties of the technological subsurface layer produced by medium milling of EM AW-AlCu4MgSi(A) aluminium alloy in hardened state T451 using a ball-end cutter and subsequent roller burnishing using a nitride ceramic ball. It was revealed that ball burnishing operations performed on curvilinear milled surfaces allow obtaining the subsurface layer with a minimum strain-hardening effect and induced compressive residual stresses without visible microstructural changes. As a result, such functional properties of the subsurface layer as fatigue strength, bearing properties and contact strength along with a very smooth machined surface of the Sa roughness of about 0.02 µm can be ensured.

This paper characterizes surface topographies produced by medium milling of EM AW-AlCu4MgSi(A) aluminium alloy in hardened state T451 using a ball-end cutter of 8 mm diameter and subsequent finish by roller burnishing using a Si3N4 nitride ceramic ball of 8mm diameter. It was revealed that ball burnishing operations performed on curvilinear milled surfaces allow obtaining the machined surfaces of high quality and exceptional smoothness with different textures and, as a result, ensuring demanded functional properties such as fatigue strength, bearing properties and contact strength [1]. It was experimentally verified that precision ball burnishing performed with a low stepover of 0.04mm produced a very smooth with the Sa roughness of about 0.02 µm characteristic for polishing.
