Opis:
A theory of cumulated fuel consumption in process ofvehicle operation is described. The method of creation the mathematical model and procedure of determination of model variables is shown. The mainfeatures of cumulated fuel consumption are painted attention. li is shown that the theory of cumulated fuel consumption can be use to description of the fuel consumption from beginning the exploitation of vehicles and also for the situation when the vehicle are in exploitation from any time and further fuel consumption are unknown. An example of utilisation of elaborated theory for assessment of operation of passenger car is also presented. It has been shown that applying the theory of cumulated fuel consumption, the course of such consumption can be accurately described also in this case. This proposal can be formulated in spite of making some simplifications. This is because the unknown value of the accumulated fuel before start the time of observation operation will be determined using the average (from the average) fuel consumption. This simplification greatly facilitates the flow of the calculations and it seems does not offend errors in the calculations. Method of determining the average is discussed in the article. It appears that such treatment may be justified by the fact that the mistake is, in principle, systematic error. Very high coefficients of mathematical model to fit the measured data are very interesting. Such regularity was observed during researches in buses transport [l], intercity buses, and the fleets of various vehicles (the results of researches are not yet published). The introduction of the theory of cumulated fuel consumption as one of the important parameters to assess the operation of the vehicle or vehicles may also be useful in exploitation researches. At present times the researches in which the vehicles are already in service and the engine control mops are tuned (chip tuning), are made. A good performance of these changes is often observed on chassis dyno but that is not properly sanctioned in natural exploitation. Experimentation with such issue is underway and will be the subject of future analysis (and publications).

Resources, production, refuelling stations and physic-chemical properties of natural gas are presented. Technical problems connected with application of natural gas to SI and CI engines are shown and analyzed. Presently most of gas vehicles are converted from gasoline to natural gas application but also many companies produce gas vehicles driven with Sl engines originally fabricated as gas vehicles. However natural gas spark ignition engines have lower torque than CI engines normally used in trucks, pick-ups and busses. Therefore CI engines are also adapted to gas fuelling as dual-fuel engines. Comparison of NG SI engines and dual-fuel engines is performed. Performances and emissions of gas automotive engines are presented. World natural gas reserves, natural gas production physical and chemical properties of typical natural gas, natural gas vehicles and refuelling stations in the world, schematic of CNG fuelling installation of IVth and Vth generation, combustion system, natural gas admission and control in DF NG engine, schematic of ADCR engine adapted to CNG fuelling are presented in the paper.

In other specifics related to the extraction process is brine, harmful compounds such as sulphur dioxide, or rock debris raining down. The machines are operated in continuous mode, the clock. Working in mining conditions machines are exposed to frequent breakdowns and malfunctions. Identifying of failure diesel engines can be cumbersome in these conditions and time-consuming, leading to longer downtime, thereby reducing operating efficiency and increased cost. Therefore, in the paper was a review and analysis methods for the diagnosis of internal combustion diesel engines used in machines built and used to power machines in underground mining. On the basis of diagnostic testing was performed analysis of cases occurring malfunctions and failures.

Opis:
Dynamic combustion engine test stand allows a very accurate analysis of the engine work. The prototype of such a system was developed and built in a cooperation of Poznan University of Technology with the ODIUT Automex company. The system consists of an asynchronous motor controlled by a regenerative variable-frequency drive with an ability to return braking energy back to the power system. Together they permit to set very precise work points of the combustion engine in every time moment, unlike test stands with eddy current dynamometer, which are only able to brake the engine. Measuring system is used to gather data from all sensors, especially torque sensor, which records the torque on a drive shaft. Sensors are connected to electronic boards, which provide signal processing, and data acquisition. Fuel mass flow meter with temperature and pressure control allows regulating the parameters of fuel supplied to the engine. A set of applications is used for test stand management and data presentation and visualization. Real conditions and vehicle dynamics are emulated using advanced models to allow a comprehensive research of the combustion engine on the test stand. The paper covers the description of developed system, its components, software and models adapted in emulation. Moreover, it provides schematics of the system as well as a block diagram of the vehicle dynamic model.

Real Driving Emissions
Opis:
This paper presents the results of tests conducted in real traffic conditions in a mountainous area, taking into account the natural topography characteristics. The tested vehicle was of SUV type (Sport Utility Vehicle) with gasoline and Diesel engine, complying with emission standard Euro 5. Using the portable system for measurement of harmful substances, measurements of pollution emissions were conducted. The results obtained confirmed the substantial changes in the emission of harmful components of exhaust fumes with the change of the road grade. In all considered cases, it was confirmed that with the increasing route grade, the road emissions of all harmful components of exhaust fumes increase, however this increase varies for different pollutants. The most sensitive for spark ignition engines is emission of particulate matter, which is associated mainly with the compression ignition engines. For small changes of the road grade, the most sensitive seems to be road emission of carbon monoxide, for gasoline engines emission of particulate matter is specific, first, to all diesel engines, increase of the road grade to 10% caused on average twofold increase in the emission of harmful components of exhaust gases.

Opis:
The article contains an analysis of the load of the engines that drive city vehicles for waste collection. These vehicles operate in specific conditions and perform unconventional tasks. For this reason, the engines run in conditions of part load at low speed. Access to places where biogas is produced and the specific engine load led the Authors to propose a new concept of fuelling of the engine, which is presented in the article. To drive a waste collection vehiclefor the Authors propose to use a spark ignition engine fuelled with dried biogas, which was purified from sulphur compounds and biomethane. In case of lack of biomethane, natur al gas could be used. The two fuels are supplied to the engine in proportions depending on the load, but because of the specificity of the analyzed vehicles tasks it is expected that a significant share of time the engine will be fuelled by biogas or biogas slightly mixed with biomethane or natural gas. A prototype engine fuelled with two fuels will be based on a diesel engine, which will be modified. Especially pistons andfuel system will be changed. The ignition system with high discharge energy will be also prepared. The proposed concept of the engine intended to be applied to the waste collection vehicle is a result of analysis of engine run conditions for this type ofoperation. In particular, the idea combines the running conditions of the engine and the access of the vehicle to the place where renewable fuel is produced.

Opis:
The rising greenhouse gas emissions at a global level have caused the increasing interest in cleaner and less oildependent transportation sources. It has been carried out a lot of researches on the alternative energy sources, like biofuels, fuel cells, wind farms, etc. and on the clean vehicles (hybrids). Most major manufacturers have successfully introduced hybrid automobiles utilizing electric motors and an internal combustion engine to improve their gas mileage. To decrease the use of gasoline even further, some hybrids are being retrofitted to allow them to be pluggedinto a standard i.e. 120-volt socket to charge the batteries and potentially to provide power back to the electric grid when needed. Plug-in Hybrid Cars offer the fuel-efficiency benefits of hybrid cars with the added feature of being able to plug-in to household electricity during rest. This allows the increased mileage and fuel savings. Plug-ins requires larger batteries than normal hybrids, which drives up their cost. Lithium-ion batteries are smaller, have a higher output of energy but are more expensive than rechargeable nickel metal hydride (NiMh), still used in hybrid vehicles. Improvement in battery storage capacity is of the most importance for the plug-ins. Plug-in technology is developed by the major auto manufacturers, with working prototypes of both plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and plug-in electric vehicles possessing small backup gas generators. The aim of the paper has been to assess the dynamic performance characteristics of the assembly light trailer - car with classic combustion engine (in the first case) or PHEV (in the second case), using mathematical models and numerical simulations of standard driving cycles and to investigate algorithms for charging the stock battery pack.

The current legislation pushes for the increasing level of vehicle powertrain electrification. A series hybrid electric vehicle powertrain with a small Range Extender (REx) unit – comprised of an internal combustion engine and an electric generator – has the technical potential to overcome the main limitations of a pure battery electric vehicle: driving range, heating, and air-conditioning demands. A typical REx ICE operates only in one or few steady-states operating points, leading to different initial priorities for its design. These design priorities, compared to the conventional ICE, are mainly NVH, package, weight, and overall concept functional simplicity – hence the costeffectiveness. The design approach of the OEMs is usually rather conservative: parting from an already-existing ICE or components and adapting it for the REx application. The fuel efficiency potential of a one-point operation of the REx ICE is therefore not fully exploited. This article presents a multi-parametric and multi-objective optimization study of a REx ICE. The studied ICE concept uses a well-known and proven technology with a favourable production and development costs: it is a two-cylinder, natural aspirated, port injected, four-stroke SI engine. The goal of our study is to find its thermodynamic optimum and fuel efficiency potential for different feasible brake power outputs. Our optimization tool-chain combines a parametric GT-Suite ICE simulation model and modeFRONTIER optimization software with various optimization strategies, such as genetic algorithms, gradient based methods or various hybrid methods. The optimization results show a great fuel efficiency improvement potential by applying this multi-parametric and multi-objective method, converging to interesting short-stroke designs with Miller valve timings.

The future powertrains have to be properly assessed in early stages of vehicle design using simple and fast but reliable tools. The aim of the paper is to develop a simulation tool suitable for any of current transient cycles for finding of upper limits of tank-to-wheel efficiencies of recent or future vehicle powertrains in different concepts of vehicles to assess their potential, to find gaps between the state-of-the-art and to find ways to bridge them. The simulation philosophy and procedure may be described in the following steps. The testing cycle power demands on vehicle movement are analyzed and the optimum operation efficiency of a primary mover (engine, fuel cell, electric motor) is assigned to them. Dynamic torques at powertrain are accounted for. Speed, speed slip (driving machine/wheels) and load dependencies of transmission efficiency are simulated by simple models. In the case of a hybrid solution, charging and discharging efficiencies of energy accumulators and additional losses (e.g., in converters and inverters) are considered. The clear modular structure of the simulation tool enables the researcher to amend new features of powertrain components. The links to more detailed simulation tools are prepared. The simulation tool is described by regression and algebraic models (based on the results of higher level simulation tools) in a way giving immediate response during sensitivity analysis. The examples of tool calibration for different powertrains and results comparing powertrain potential are presented for lower medium class passenger car. The current simulation tool creates a useful link between detailed and accurate but CPU time demanding 1-D tools, based on partial differential equations, and rules-of-thumb, used sometimes for initial potential assessments. Moreover, the described tool does not require detailed data on the powertrain during early stage of design but it shows its potential for further development.

Different optical techniques were applied to describe the thermal and chemical processes that occur in a SI small engine from the ported fuel injection and in-cylinder mixture formation to the combustion process and the exhaust emission. In PFI SI engines, the atomized fuel is sprayed towards the intake valves, where it may evaporate, puddle or rebound. Furthermore, a portion of the fuel may flow directly into the cylinder or impinge upon the port walls. These phenomena occur in varying degrees and depend upon the engine design, injector location and engine operation. Potentially the fuel can enter the cylinder in a poorly atomized state, leading to an increased unburned hydrocarbon emissions. This is particularly true during cold operation, when evaporation is low. In the small-motorcycle and scooter engines the fuel injection occurs in smaller intake manifold than light-duty vehicle engines, increasing the criticism of the fuel-wall interaction. The experimental investigations were performed in a single cylinder engine constituted by an elongated optically accessible piston and equipped with the head and injection system of a reference 4-stroke engine for small vehicles. High spatial resolution imaging was used to characterize the fuel injection phase. The cycle resolved visualization was performed to follow the flame propagation from the intake spark ignition to the exhaust phase. Natural emission spectroscopy measurements were applied in the ultraviolet-visible wavelength range to identify the chemical species that are markers of the combustion process and to follow the formation of pollutants.

In the automotive industry in the world continuously being sought universal driving cycle. The test should closely match the fuel consumption and emissions of toxins in the fumes of the test vehicle in its real operating conditions [4]. However, in the previously developed solid driving tests established velocity profiles differ significantly from actual driving conditions. The difference in fuel consumption, comparing the natural operation of the NEDC test reaches an average of 18%. The new version of the driving cycle should be more realistic to the everyday use of additional equipment and gadgets that are installed in modern vehicles [1]. The impact on fuel consumption by vehicles may be conditioned not only by its size and weight, but also by the geometry of the track motion, forces causing the motion and the forces acting on the car when driving on curved tracks. The vehicle encounters and overcomes all the forces that act on it while driving-resistance movement. In the energy intake through the vehicle runs in the motor changes at the expense of the energy of fuel consumed. The driving force performs work on a given stretch of road balancing (predominant) friction. On the basis of the calculated resistance movement and the energy consumption of the movement in the selected object was a comparison of the actual consumption of fuel in the vehicle with the ignition spark. Analysis was performed and found differences in three cycles: urban, extra-urban and combined.

This work presents the results of the statistical analysis of noise in several points of GAZ-3110 vehicles. There are also the dependences between the loudness of noise and speed of an engine or useful life of a car. It is difficult to confuse the noise of jet engine with reciprocating internal-combustion engine. Random factors also influence much the power level. Mechanism adjustment has its limits and so it can have different influence on its vibration and noise. Finally during the process of operation sliding surfaces do wear, screwed connections do loosen, other things happen and these lead to the changes in spectrum and level of noise. In this work we tried to evaluate the dispersion of GAZ-3110 vehicles noise levels according to the results of a coustic measurements in the immediate field of rondom acoustically active constructive assemblies. The range of noise loudness for the specific car model is defined at the level 20-25 dBA. The GAZ-3110 vehicles are characterized by the significant dispersion of noise level. The differences of noise level of individual cars are exceeding 20-25 dBA. vehicles noise considerably increases with the augmentation of useful life and rpm speed. The noisiest element of GAZ-3110 vehicles is internal combustion engine, then main gear even when first gear is operated.

A problem of comparing the traction properties of Daewoo Lublin 3 Mi van with respective types of gearbox has been taken up in the paper. There were three gearbox types: TS5-21, PD.97 and ZF. These properties were concluded based on vehicle traction graph. They included: reaching the reserve driving force in respective gears, obtaining accelerations, overcoming the resistances to motion (rolling resistance, air resistance and grade resistance) as well as achieving the maximum speed. Vehicle traction diagram has been made based on the torque curve of Andoria 4CTi90 engine external characteristics obtained on engine test bed in a direct way using an AVL eddy current brake. The engine was supplied with a complete fuel dose and loaded with the resistance torque produced by engine brake. The characteristics was performed every 200 rpm from 1000 rpm to maximum revolutions and the other way from maximum revolutions to 1000 rpm every 200 rpm. The torque characteristics points were determined as a mean value obtained from these two measurements. After considering the data from engine external characteristics, vehicle information (including, among others, respective gear ratios and final drive ratio, under-the-bonnet power loss coefficient, and dynamic wheel radius) and the resistances to motion, a vehicle traction diagram of Daewoo Lublin 3 Mi van was made for three types of gearboxes. Based on this, the authors found that a Daewoo Lublin 3 Mi van equipped with ZF gearbox is the best from the point of view of traction properties.

Opis:
At this paper there were described properties of powertrain with diesel engine and CVT transmission. At this system, engine load is not directly proportional to acceleration pedal position. Position of this pedal is only interpreted as the driver will, about demanded vehicle speed, and the way of achievement of it (dynamic, economic drive) in other word strategy choose. Nowadays ecologic conditionings, it means EURO 3, 4, 5 standards, requires from drive strategies to be ecologic. Decision of shift value and engine load (proportional to fuel dose, 100% for maximal dose) is elaborated at primary controller, in spite of driver, enabling economic and ecologic powertrain work. CVT transmission introducing additional degree of freedom to powertrain facilitate above steering strategies realization. Presented system has possibility, within the framework of possessed degrees of freedom, the realization of the modes of economic drive or dynamic drive. Assuming given acceleration in vehicle impetus gaining cycle, system is in possession of only one degree of freedom (the point of the constant angular engine speed) limiting the performance of system in optimum areas (proportional participation of PHASE II in all vehicle impetus gaining cycle). Advantages resultant from the above mentioned control method are particularly visible in the vehicle impetus gaining cycle, to the speed of 15 m/s, characteristic for the municipal conditions. For proposed control variant with „test 150" one is observing the lowering of the fuel expenditure and also lowering of toxic elements exhaust emissions. In the case of the emissions, decrease was at the level of 28% in comparison with the worst variant (regarding to this criteria) ,,test 315"; for cruise expenditure of fuel we obtain decrease about 17% for analogous tests.

Decyzja o wyborze przełożenia i stopniu obciążenia silnika (proporcjonalnym do wielkości dawki oleju napędowego, 100% dla dawki maksymalnej) jest podejmowana w sterowniku nadrzędnym, poza kierowcą, pozwalając ostatecznie na ekonomiczną i ekologiczną pracę całego układu napędowego. Przekładnia CVT wprowadzając do układu napędowego dodatkowy stopień swobody ułatwia realizację w/w strategii sterowania.
