Opis:
The paper presents a review of the suspension solutions used on the street vehicle up to the now a days, finalising with presentation of their damping characteristics and with evaluation of their advantages or disadvantages. Long time the suspension systems have been dominated by the classic passive suspensions realized with metallic springs, shock absorbers with constant damping coefficients and anti-roll bars, excepting some luxury and sport cars using semi-active and active suspensions. There are presented some semi-active suspension solutions with continuous or discontinuous damping characteristics adjustment and the evolution of the Citroen and other active suspensions. All of them improve in some matter the performances but all of them have not ability to recuperate energy and has auxiliary energy consumption so last period the electromagnetically shock absorbers are researched, the paper presenting some of them. The paper also presents magneto rheological MR damper, solutions for adjustable passive shock absorbers and solutions for passive shock absorbers with variable damping coefficient with the stroke, e.g. Monroe Sensa Trac, Citroën Solution and VZN solution, with their damping characteristics and performances.

In this paper a numerical model of a terrain vehicle suspension system development process is presented. In the performed studies the suspension system with and without a simplified motor-car body was taken into consideration. Geometry of the tire, wheel and system elements were achieved using reverse engineering technology. Moreover, with the assistance of a microscope and an X-ray device it was possible to achieve the exact tire cords pattern, which in the next stages was implemented into the FE model. Subsequently, numerical simulations of both cases were performed simulating the TNT explosion under a wheel. The non-linear dynamic analyses were performed using the LS-DYNA code. To solve both presented cases the explicit central difference scheme with modified time integration of the equation of motion was implemented. Computations of blast wave propagation were carried out with the Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method with Jones Wilkins Lee (JWL) equation of state defining the explosive material. Obtained results have shown different suspension system elements damage and tire destruction characteristic, which come from blast wave reflection of the motor-car body surface.

Opis:
Coil springs do not always has regular geometry with constant pitch and constant mean diameter. Geometry of spring is more complex. Furthermore, spring stiffness could change with deflection. That makes calculation of spring stiffness more complicated than just putting four values into mathematical formula. In article has been presented two investigation methods of spring characteristic. Investigated object is a passenger vehicle suspension coil spring. Recognition spring characteristic is primary stage of vehicle dynamic suspension simulation. It has a very big impact on the vehicle height, comfort, handling and safety of vehicle. It is often assumed that vehicle spring has constant stiffness coefficient, which is sometimes a reason of incorrect suspension model. Vehicle springs rather has a progressive characteristic than linear. One of presented method is traditional, experimental compression test. Second, one is a measurement and modelling of spring geometry. Than analysing it in finite element method (FEM) simulation. Comparison has been done to check property of FEM process. Computed compression has been done in ABAQUS CAE 6.13-1 software. Analysis has shown that process of analysing is useful. There were obtained a good agreement between experimental research and computed model. In spite of irregular spring geometry, final characteristic is close to linear. Progressiveness is visible but not high.

Personal cars are the largest group of vehicles on the road. Every year a significant increase in this group of vehicles enforces the need to shorten the time of the study of the technical condition on vehicle inspection stations. One of the major components checked during the inspection is vehicle suspension that has a decisive influence on the comfort and safety. Currently, vehicle inspection stations to assess the condition of the suspension mainly use EUSAMA method, which allows obtaining approximate results. The paper presents the verification of the effectiveness and operation of the developed method called Procedure of Matrix Decimation (PMD), which allows for useful application of research results using FFT spectral analysis of nonstationary, transient signals recorded on the vehicle during the EUSAMA test method. Verification of this method of signal processing was done with the use of vibration signals recorded on the vehicle during the EUSAMA test method on vehicle inspection stations. It consists of a comparison of the FFT spectra obtained for the secondary signal (after processing method based on PMD) with STFT analyzes made for the original signal.

The paper shall present results of simulation research studies performed using a simulation model of a vehicle in which ABS and EBS system were taken into consideration as well as hydropneumatic suspension. A decision was made to conduct the simulation studies following three tests: circumferential fixed motion; emergency braking in curvilinear motion; stepping extortion on the steering wheel. As a result of performed simulation studies, more than 30 physical quantities were recorded describing the curvilinear motion of the AFV vehicle. The following were selected for presentation in listings: motion trajectory; progress of the value of lateral and side acceleration of the vehicle centre of inertia; progress of circumferential velocity values of driving wheels (essential at braking); progress of the vehicle velocity values recorded in the vehicle's centre of inertia and in places corresponding to positions of driving wheels; and progress of the values of vertical reaction forces under the driving wheels. Catalogue of the parameters being changed for the simulation is looked up to real objects and trends occurring in the changes being introduced. Paper presents progress of the value ofverticalforce in different conditions and vehicle motion trajectory. It also shows general diagram of hydropneumatic suspension system in view of the vehicle and diagram of hydropneumatic suspension system.

The paper shall present the way for building a model for simulation studies of the wheeled armoured fighting vehicle with hydropneumatic suspension of driving wheels axles. Thus developed model shall be used to conduct simulation studies in the area of the vehicle safety. The scope of terms and conditions for applications of hydropneumatic suspensions in wheeled armoured fighting vehicles is justifled due to a number of their advantages, such as: progressive characteristics of elasticity provides great driving comfort with a small load, as well as apossibility of placing a considerable load on the vehicle (the requirements are mutually exclusive in classical suspension). Compressed nitrogen, sealed in the sphere using an elastic diaphragm, is approximately six-fold more flexible than steel springs elements at static load of the suspension, which provides high level of driving comfort; apossibility to lower the height of the vehicle by changing the road clearance which effects in e.g. higher availability for airborne transport and soon. However, they are not free from disadvantages; therefore, it is the studies of their justified use, especially related to traffic safety, that should have a final say in individual cases. The here to presented model of hydropneumatic suspension and the vehicle motion model are applied to assess dynamic capabilities and evaluate the real object motion safety.

One of the applications of Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) consists in conducting tasks connected to removing and disposing of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). The tasks are often performed in hard to reach places, on off-road terrain, with weights and dimensions of explosives which require the use of work attachments of considerable lifting capacities. Due to this, it is necessary to equip the robot with suspension designed for performing such tasks. Because of variable character of the charges which are subjected to the chassis of robots, it is necessary to build a suspension with variable characteristics and examine efficiency of its action. One of the research methods that can be used for that purpose are the simulations based on the method of Multibody Systems. The paper presents a hydro-pneumatic suspension system of an EOD robot, which has been developed at the Military University of Technology, describes its model, simulation findings and the initial verification thereof based on a real object. Apart from that, special consideration is given to the quality and effectiveness of UGV suspension systems. The development of a basic platform enables the use of the platform for various purposes as a carrier of a multi-sensor system for detecting dangerous materials or for carrying other attachments.

Main route of development of an agricultural tractor construction is raise of productivity of Caterpillar at the expense of increase in working speeds and tractors and tool width. Such direction of development demands simultaneous development of running systems and suspensions of caterpillars. The analysis of possibility of application of running system with triangular Caterpillar contour in farm tractors is in-process made. The mathematical model of the Caterpillar has been developed for research conducting realised in the environment of SIMULINK. Within the limits of conducting of the analysis of a construction of running system with triangular Caterpillar contour more effective construction of a suspension of a back idler in comparison with existing suspensions has been developed. On a designed construction of a suspension the patent is gained. The spent mathematical simulation of oscillations ofa case of a tractor with various arrangements of running systems and at tractor operation on the most widespread regimes has displayed efficiency as designed circuit design of a tractor with triangular contour, and a designed construction of a suspension of a back idler. Working out of a technique of optimisation of a suspension bracket of the developed running system as a whole under concrete conditions of operation is necessary.

Recently leading producers of farm tractors even more often apply in running systems triangular caterpillar contour (TCC). In such running system one of the most problem knots is the back idler (BI) which is loaded by reaction from a caterpillar track and from weight of the casco having on this support. Thus the vertical component of reaction from a tension of a caterpillar track in addition loads with a tie-rod tangential force suspension bracket BI, thereby disturbing with a casco and reducing smoothness of a course of a tractor. Modelling and the analysis of dependence of affecting of vibration on a seat of the motor-man depending on applied type of a suspension bracket of a back idler are in-process executed. The analysis of parameters of smoothness of a course for the circuit design with triangular caterpillar contour and the offered suspension bracket of a back idler showed that in comparison with base configuration of a tractor of family VT On transport operations, at traffic on the soil road with the lifted tool, affectings on a seat of the operator decrease in 1,1-1,7 times in vertical and in 1.1-1.2 times in horizontal directions, at work with nominal loading, and also with Rkr=50 kN, on an eddish, provides minor alteration of smoothness of a course, the divergence of values of affecting on a seat of the operator, on the average, makes 12–19 %. In comparison with triangular caterpillar contour and "a classical" suspension bracket of a back idler, various displacement-yoke systems of a back idler, at work on transport operations, slightly influence a divergence of parameters of affecting on a seat of the operator which make 2.6 % and 4 % for vertical and horizontal affectings accordingly. At work with nominal loading on an eddish, affectings on a seat of the operator decrease in 1.7–2.7 times in vertical and in 1.4–1.8 times in horizontal directions and at work with draw-bar loading of Rkr=50 kN on an eddish, affectings on a seat of the operator decrease in 1.4–2.1 times in vertical and periodically increase on some speeds no more than by 30 % in a horizontal direction.

Opis:
Process of designing of vehicle suspension as a combination of springs and dampers is a very complicated task. In general it requires designing system respecting good ride comfort and good handling at the same time. It is obvious that these two aspects are dependent also of the type of the road on which vehicle is riding. Especially it is important in city buses which are workplaces for bus drivers and each day are transporting thousands of people. Bus suspension system is quite different from car suspension. Because of the mass and size instead of traditional springs, pneumatics springs are used. In some cases, values of damping and stiffness of the spring are adjusted to the proper road in a real bus while driving. It is necessary nowadays to have a virtual assessment that can simulate "bus suspension behaviour" to abstracted suspension parameters such as springs and dampers characteristics. In this paper a multibody model of city bus suspension has been presented. Multibody models are the best way of simulation of dynamic behaviour of the vehicle. Simulations showing how different types of the road affect the structure of the vehicle have been performed. Such prepared model can be then use as an input for optimization of the bus suspension in terms of ride comfort, handling, or even passengers' safety.

Opis:
The extortions that result in the vibrations of a hull of the combat vehicle have an impact on the tracked combat vehicle during the off-road driving. They may have a negative impact on the crew, internal equipment, shooting accuracy. A level of the hull loads depends on quality of the suspension system, which main responsibility consists in minimising an amplitude of the vibrations. Therefore, it is necessary both to improve a structure of the suspension system, and its components, as well as their optimisation. The tests of the driving smoothness of the vehicle and quality of the suspension elements can be realised both within a frame of the model tests and while driving in the real conditions. The assessment criteria of the driving smoothness are directly related to the negative influence of the vibrations to the human body. The suspension quality should be assumed both upon an execution of the vehicle prototype, and during the design or modernisation phase. It results both in reducing the time, and minimisation of the costs and risk related to the structure development. The model tests enable to evaluate the driving smoothness and comfort prior to an execution of the prototype. The tests on the test tracks in the final phase of the development are carried out in order to evaluate the driving smoothness.

Opis:
Vibrations have become an important factor of vehicles. Vibration tests help identify, and then tune the automotive vehicle to improve the structural strength. Due to the increasing development of vehicles and machines and their widespread use. Increased research-using vibrations due to their low or zero interference with the vehicle under test. Vibration testing is often carried out using Laser Doppler Vibrometry (LDV), a device that is used for contactless measurement of vibration on the surface. The laser beam is directed from the device to the surface of interest, and the amplitude and frequency of vibration are extracted from the Doppler shift frequency of the reflected laser beam due to the movement surface. High values of vibration transmitted from the engine, and the way significantly affect the body of the vehicle and the driver. Article presents results of research carried out on vehicles powered by three different engines and rpm. Tests were carried out on an engine dynamometer in the same environmental conditions. Two of engines were with spark ignition, including one with a supercharged engine and compression ignition engine. The measurements were made using the Laser Doppler Vibrometry using Fast Fourier Transform. The spectrum obtained is used for further analysis to determine the acceleration level at various frequencies. Obtained from Fast Fourier Transform readings used for drawing graphs of frequency V acceleration. The results of the study are interesting and promising, as they show a significant difference in the velocity for spark ignition engines and compression-ignition.

The paper presents the problem of modelling dynamics of motor vehicles in the convention of multi-segment systems. The assumptions used in modelling process arepresented and the characteristics of elastic - damping elements of tracked vehicle suspension system are determined. This paper presents the identified mass and the geometrical parameters of the vehicle, on the basis of these parameters in Virtual.Lab software environment the simulation model was developed. The model describes the elements of a tank that does not change their position relative to the reference coordinate system, they are: the turret, muzzle, body case, and other components such as: wheels, torsion shafts, damper levers and links. The tank tracks are omitted in the simulation model. The results of numerical simulations in the form of displacement courses of characteristic points of the hull and displacements of the wheels axles in an assumed reference coordinate system are also included. The simulation results were compared with experimental results obtained on the proving ground. The results of experimental measurements carried out on the tank range, were used to precise tune a mathematical model of the vehicle. The results of numerical simulations confirmed validity ofthe assumptions in the modelling process, since good agreement was obtained with results from experimental investigations. The developed models will be used to optimize the characteristics of vehicle suspension.

The main aim of this paper is to present the effective example of coupled experimental and numerical tests. Moreover, a development process of a numerical model of a terrain vehicle suspension system is presented. Experimental tests were carried out on the machine Instron 8802 with an assistance of the high-speed camera Phantom v12. Obtained stress-strain curves were applied into the FE model to estimate material constants for Mooney-Rivlin constitutive rubber model and for numerical failure criterion. Geometry of the tire and other suspension elements were achieved using reverse engineering technology. Due to the fact that a tire is such a complex structure to be represented with numerical methods, it was important to develop a discrete model of tire as much similar to the real one as possible. Consequently, an exact tire cords pattern was implemented into the FE model of the tire, which was obtained by the assistance of a microscope and X-ray device. In order to simulate the blast wave propagation the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method and Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation with Jones Wilkins Lee (JWL) equation defining the explosive material were used. Finally, results from both approaches were compared.

In this paper an effect of controlling damping force in a vehicle suspension system is discussed. A vehicle suspension system is equipped with controlled piezoelectric dampers (PZD) which allow controlling vehicle body vibration. The main goal of performed and presented in the paper studies was to determine the properties of piezoelectric damper and propose control strategy. As piezoelectric damper was used hydraulic cylinder with piezoelectric valve controlling flows between chambers of the damper. Some results of experimental studies of the damper dissipation characteristics were obtained and are presented. Vertical vibration reduction of vehicle body has an influence on comfort and safety by decreasing a value in wheel contact forces variation. Control of friction in a vehicle suspension system can be realized by controlling piezoelectric valves and flows between chambers of the PZD dampers. In this paper also some algorithms of vibration control are proposed and discussed. The main goal of this paper is to investigate issues associated with control algorithms for an adaptive (semi-active) suspension system of a vehicle equipped with new type of semi-active dampers. The paper presents results of numerical simulations of a vehicle suspension system equipped with a piezoelectric damper.
