Opis:
The article characterizes state-of-the-art PEMS (Portable Emission Measurement System) equipment for exhaust emissions measurement under actual operating conditions. This equipment allows measurement of the exhaust emissions from all modes of transport. Besides, the article contains the results of exhaust emission research for engines of a variety of transport applications such as light duty vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles. Own exhaust emission research results performed under different traffic conditions of new motor vehicles fuelled with different fuels (gasoline, diesel fuel and natural gas) have been compared with the type approval values that define the vehicle emission indexes. The analysis has been performed in relation to a vehicle but the proposed measurement methodology is also knit to the engine operating conditions. The testing of heavy-duty vehicles described in the book was divided into several stages for which the results obtained for these vehicles were compared for loaded and unloaded vehicles. Ecological advantages of the city buses of different powertrain configurations have been determined (diesel, hybrid) on selected regular bus lines in city centre.

Opis:
Economic development of nations leads to a higher living comfort of the society. Rich societies want to move safely and independently and demand immediate availability of purchased goods or – in the case of Internet shopping – delivery in the shortest possible time. Such an approach facilitates a continuous growth in the number of road vehicles. At the current level of technology advancement, an increasing number of vehicles results in a growth of the consumption of fossil fuels, which entails increased exhaust emissions and that, in turn, has a negative impact on the health of the living organisms. Another negative consequence of an increased number of vehicles (increased road congestion) is the emission of noise. This problem is particularly significant in large agglomerations where people are surrounded by moving vehicles. This paper presents the extent of influence of the automotive industry on the natural environment and the extent of changes in vehicle design and organization of road infrastructure that were instituted to reduce the transport’s environmental burden. The further part of the paper presents a definition of the development of sustainable transport, its advantages and hurdles that we may encounter when modernizing a transport system. Subsequently in the paper, the measurements under actual vehicle operating conditions were described together with the possibilities of analysis of the research results and the advantages resulting from such an approach during the assessment of the impact of the automotive industry on the natural environment.

Opis:
The safety of buses in road traffic is very important because of potential hazards of peoples' life and health, damage and loss of freight and high costs of crash effects. The technical state of all vehicles has been examined during required periodical inspections, but in spite of this, the technical conditions of large number of vehicles have been poor. The range of inspections and their frequency have been determined according to the law of each country. The methodology and frequency has been determined in accordance with domestic legislation. The methodology of technical inspections concerns only some important systems of vehicles but not all. For example, anti-lock systems, retarders, adaptive cruise control systems, speed limitation devices etc. have not been examined. The results of examinations of 120 buses and coaches have been presented in this paper. Tests were carried out in scope of securing safety in road traffic. The methodology of compulsory periodical inspections was applied during initial tests. Vehicles were examined on typical control stands and in road tests. A special methodology for road tests for coaches with anti-lock systems was elaborated. Additional checks were carried out in cases when the results of basic tests were unsatisfactory. More than 50 vehicles of the total number of examined buses were faulty.

Opis:
Hydrogenation of the motor transport has become the highest form of broadly understood contemporary electro mobility, with the use of hybrid vehicles through fully electrical vehicles to fuel cell vehicles. This article presents development of hydrogen technology applying fuel cells, in particular in road transport. The emission of greenhouse gases in the production cycles of the said fuel were discussed, depending on the use of various energy carriers in its production. Emphasis was given to the rationale underlying the production of hydrogen for the needs of fuel cells. Furthermore, the advantages were presented of exploiting electrical power for the production of hydrogen with the use of renewable sources of energy. The example of France was used to discuss the advantages of the hydrogen fuel technology for reducing the emission of combustion pollutants, in particular the emission of carbon dioxide. The article also evaluates – on the example of Poland – average unit costs (PLN/km) for using fuel cell vehicles. At present, they will be higher than in case of vehicles with conventional drivers. High cost is one of the causes – apart from limited production of fuel cell vehicles – of slacked development of the hydrogen fuel technology. The article also presents premises for the road transport hydrogenation national plan in Poland.

Opis:
Vehicle operating fuel consumption estimation has a measurable significance for both individual users as well as transport and Communications companies. Complex analysis of the results may cause reduction of power (fuel) consumption, CO2 and toxic compounds emissions in exhaust gases. Operating fuel consumption estimation carried out by drivers' encounters basic difficulties connected with the lach of reliable reference standard for comparison of measured fuel consumption during car usage. Therefore it is necessary to identify vehicle operating conditions and ascribe them reference fuel consumption according to the accepted reference standard. A method of description ofreal vehicle operating conditions has been presented in this paper. Presented examples show that vehicle operating conditions may be unambiguously described with the use of proposed indicators. They can be also used to forecast the fuel consumption with high accuracy. Exclusive use of certification tests as model of operating conditions for this purpose does not allow keeping high conformity of assumptions with usage practice. Creation ofan individual map of operating conditions for a chosen agglomeration would enable to optimize choice of vehicle or fleet for an intended place of operation. Utilization of such operating conditions map may be: to determine reference fuel consumption for assumed operation area or optimal route of drive from the point of view of minimizing fuel consumption, energy or CO2 emission to the atmosphere. Selected examples of Utilization of such operating conditions map have been presented.

Opis:
The article presents environmental aspects of rebuilding a section of multilane national road number 4 located in Rzeszów area. It describes a reason of investment realization and the financing methods. The paper presents environmental conditions before and after the realization of investment. One of the most important parameters of the road rebuilding process is the research of traffic noise level before and after rebuilding. The environmental factors analysis includes the influence of rebuilding on comfort of residents living near national road (No 4) including the decrease of noise level. The analysis includes also a social aspect of rebuilding connected with the change of landscape by building acoustic baffles along this road. Rebuilding and modernization of the streets and national roads is very important for balanced growth of all regions of a country, it allows to improve the quality of living of the residents. However, the improvement of environmental conditions and reduced level of noise are carrying at the same time deterioration of visual reception. The analysis of influence of rebuilding the national roads on living conditions gives the conclusion that the best solution is to move the transit traffic outside the cities by building the highways and ring roads.
Analizując wpływ przebudowy dróg krajowych na życie mieszkańców miast najlepszym rozwiązaniem byłoby wyprowadzenie ruchu tranzytowego poza obszar miasta poprzez budowę odpowiednich obwodnic i autostrad.
